Power Voter Tricks

Some favorite power voter tricks of our readers, not all of which will be suitable for any given poll.

  • Use multiple tabs or browser windows and skip from one to another to vote while pages are reloading.
  • If you use multiple tabs in IE or Firefox, right-click and select ‘reload all tabs’ to refresh all. What I do is use one browser for the pages I’m visiting (I use Chrome and load several tabs on it) and another browser or window (I usually use Firefox) only with the voting pages in several tabs as well. Then I do my voting, going from tab to tab and, when I get to the last one, I refresh them all and do it all over again. Repeat (ad infinitum). Because the pages I’m visiting are on the other browser or window, they don’t get refreshed with the polls.
  • Try hitting “enter” instead of clicking on a “Vote” button provided on the screen. Often it will work and requires less scrolling/mousework.
  • Try Ctrl-R or F5 to refresh the page vs. the reload button or backing up into it again.
  • Or try Alt + LeftArrow instead of hitting the Back button on your browser.
  • Bookmark the voting pages or use your Favorites bar. Re-clicking the Favorites tab is another way to reload the page after voting.
  • Drag the Favorites tabs on your browser bar to make them easier to click on, for example aligning them vertically with other things you need to touch such as Vote or Find box.
  • Try using your browser’s Find option to quickly locate Danny’s name rather than scrolling to reselect it after voting. Often you don’t have to actually hit Enter for the Find function to work. Just click anywhere in the Find box.
  • Set up your browser window to make it easier to vote without a lot of extra mouse travel/clicks. For some sites (CMT) you can make your browser window small, and then “find” Gokey, select, enter to vote, and reload or back up; repeat repeat.
  • Or adjust the Favorites tabs on your browser bar to make them easier to access, For example you can drag the page you want so that it’s tab aligns vertically with other things you need such as Vote or Find boxes.
  • For other sites like WMZQ voting, it may work better instead to zoom the window out so you can see the whole page to select Danny’s name and then hit the vote button without any scrolling of the window. You can change the window view on your browser with View/Zoom.
  • The duplicate tab or CTL + K will get you to the voting page or any page on multiple tabs for those of us who are single minded.
  • For voting pages with a lot of vertical distance, if you don’t like resizing the viewing area, try the Pg Up and Pg Dn buttons to quickly navigate to areas you need without mousework.
