Danny Gokey will be heading up the roster of artists for a “Greens and Guitars” Las Vegas area celebrity golf outing and fundraising concert in support of Nashville flood relief. The August 11th events are sponsored by Las Vegas country radio station New Country 95.5 KWNR.

Tickets to the benefit events can be purchased online. KWNR also is promoting chances for their listeners to win tickets to the Greens and Guitars concert. (@955KWNR on twitter).

Danny Gokey: Giving Back With Sophia’s Heart

Danny Gokey’s best days really are ahead of him. About two years ago, he picked himself up after the unexpected death of his young wife Sophia, became an American Idol finalist, a singing star, and now, more than ever, he’s giving back. “I don’t know what gave me the strength to go on and do it. I think maybe just trying to find purpose in a tragedy like, ‘Ok, you know there’s pain but let there be purpose in this pain, let something good come out of it,’” he says.

Through Sophia’s Heart, the foundation Danny created in memory of his late wife, Danny is making a difference at places like Hope House. “I live at Hope House. It’s a shelter for mothers and families. If it wasn’t for Hope House, I think I would have been lost right now,” says Jasmine Ramos. And HeartLove Ministries. “The money from Sophia’s Heart will directly help build families,” says Darren Fisher of HeartLove Ministries.

“I love getting out and singing. That’s one of the main calls in my life is to sing. But at the same time, I feel like another one of my calls or destinies in life is to help people. And I just see that being a great marriage, entertainment and charitable causes,” says Danny. “It’s so funny, because it was in the midst of the most horrible time in my life that I actually went and followed a dream.”

Danny tried out for American Idol just a few months after Sophia died during what should have been routine surgery for a congenital heart condition. Now when the spotlight shines on Danny, it also shines on Sophia’s Heart and its mission.

“Music and art programs are the programs that they take away out of schools first and we believe that they are the most important programs that need to be in school because they set an atmosphere for learning. That flows over into math, into science that really enhances learning,” Danny continues, “We do Sophia’s Heart of Education in which we give away scholarships. We do Sophia’s Heart of Compassion, which is feeding the poor, clothing the poor, housing the poor. Last and not least is our fourth program, Sophia’s Heart of Medical Relief. We want to start helping families out who go through medical problems who have high medical bills so we can help alleviate the pain because I’ve been there,” he says.

Tenacity, compassion and a great voice. It’s no wonder Danny’s fans are so devoted. “I’ve been waiting 7 hours to see Danny Gokey.” “I love his positive message and I love his voice,” say fans.

Meaghan Bynam flew halfway across the country with her guide dog, Whitney, to be at Danny’s concert. “His voice, his heart, the passion that he has for other people, it’s amazing,” she says.

Danny has never given up on life and now he helps others achieve their dreams.

“I’m very grateful to Sophia’s Heart and Danny,” says Jasmine. “I hope God will bless him double for that.”

Country Aircheck: BamaJam Draws Crowd, If Not Radio

WDXB/Birmingham, AL OM/PD Tom Hanrahan was on the grounds of the third annual BamaJam Music & Arts Festival over the weekend, and says the only thing missing was radio.

“It’s always a great lineup [..] “You had Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Hank, Jr., Dierks Bentley, Jamey Johnson and Miranda Lambert, among others [..]

As for performances that jumped out at him, Hanrahan singles out two: “Chris Young did a stellar version of ‘Rainy Night In Georgia.’ And Danny Gokey covered both a Travis Tritt song and ‘Life Is A Highway.’ He’s definitely an entertainer.” And overall? “From an entertainment standpoint it lived up to everything they promoted it to be.”

The stars are aligning for autograph signings at the Greased Lightning Fan Fair Hall at the upcoming 2010 CMA Music Festival.

“The fan and artist interactions in the Greased Lightning Fan Fair Hall are the heart of the CMA Music Festival experience,” said CMA Board Chairman Steve Moore. “This year we have invited new exhibitors, artists, technologies, and partners to help improve the experience for our attendees. And to top it off, we have a terrific list of artists eager to spend one-on-one time with their fans.”

The Greased Lightning Fan Fair Hall will undergo a makeover, becoming an educational feast for the eyes. Photos and facts dating back nearly four decades will adorn the walls as well as the updated CMA Booth, which will host autograph signings for the first time.

The Judds will make an exclusive appearance in the CMA Booth, marking the first time the popular mother/daughter duo has signed autographs at the event since the 1990s when the event was held at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. Other artists signing in the CMA Booth include Laura Bell Bundy, Danny Gokey, Randy Houser, Craig Morgan, Kellie Pickler, Darius Rucker, Josh Thompson, and Chuck Wicks.

Fans can get a schedule of when artists will be appearing in the Greased Lightning Fan Fair Hall by texting “SCHEDULE” to 66937.

Gokey said he was sick the past five or six days, and hoped no one who hugged him would catch anything.

The sound was too loud for conversation beyond pleasantries, but Gokey showed a heavily tattooed woman a small tattoo on his right shoulder. To another who had ”Gokey’s Girls” emblazoned on her shirt, he said, ”Oh, I love your shirt.”

In an interview before the show, Gokey said he saw very little of the show this year, perhaps an hour all season. But he said he was aware of DeWyze, whose raspy, soulful voice and laid-back demeanor have gotten comparisons to Gokey.

Asked about that, Gokey said simply, ”Yes sir.”

Gokey did not perform. Grady and his band, Wailing Waters, gave an hourlong concert after the ”Idol” winner was announced.
