Occurred to me after re-reading it this morning if possibly he was sitting in with Danny. For some reason from where I was sitting (not extremely close to stage), the steel guitar player with Danny’s band didn’t look that much like Kyle. I thought it was because he wasn’t wearing the hat, lol. But possibly they had a stand-in helping out for the day?

I’m still on a cloud after last night. Had such a great time. Can’t wait for my next show in Lancaster and then Prospectors!! TWO nights in a row!!!
Just wanted to drop off my pics from last night. They turned out okay. Not as good as I think they could have been. I was having some issues with my view/lighting so they turned out a bit darker than I’d have liked. I did lighten them. I may have a few more sometime later on today and will add them to the album once I edit them.
And it totally deserves mentioning that he definitely looked amazing last night in his red shirt and ummm jeans

. I had to laugh at everyone gushing here on iheart last night about Danny. My daughter thinks it’s creepy enough that a lot of us are older women and how we swoon over Danny. I told her we can still look 
. Nice recaps Rachel, Steph and Lizzy! Asics- I agree with you that when I see Danny perform, I have peripheral vision. I really am not aware what is around me. I really hope they book danny next year for Summerfest. That would be an awesome iheart convention

RachR, Thanks for the pics and nice meeting you too. Did you stay for the signing after and if so, how long was Danny’s line? I saw the line was forming during Craig’s set
One thing nice about this concert the merchandise table was on the track with the seats by the stage so I could keep an eye on Danny’s line during the show. You know me, always thinking about those sales and of course had to buy another CD.
Lurker, that is interesting about Joe Nichols – another Danny is better off story. Thanks also for letting us know what KIX said. Although Danny’s song may be done on radio, I agree with those that say this song has been good for Danny in many ways, by gaining him respect, adding to his credibility and will help his career in the long run. Having seen him perform last night just reinforced for me what others have been saying, how could this guy not be successful.

Looking at the All Access page this morning, if Danny stays on the charts my guess is he will end the week at #38 so should appear on countdown shows a little longer.

Good job, Danip at MJs. I don’t know how you all keep from going viral on WMill. I want to rip……. She just can’t admit it was a beautifully performed song that is too emotionally raw for some radio stations. I agree with Josie and others, this song will pay dividends. Danny will attract even better material, than he had to choose from, for his second album. He’s song writers dream. Plus, we get to see the Gokey imprints/writing on the next album.

MrBing, we theorized that Danny is sitting on the floor in that photo is because it was raining and they took shelter under the bleecher/stage to do some more pics/talk to radio personnel.

Yes Lizzy, we did stay for the autograph line. I forgot to mention it in my recap lol. There was a rather long line when I got in it and it got longer. Had him sign the pink DG shirt and bought a cd so my friend had a reason to stand in line with me cause he was only signing merchandise. Me and my friend thought the security was totally annoying last night. You couldn’t stand at all during the show. Then in the autograph line there was no standing back behind any barricade to take pics. When you were done in the line they made sure you left the area! GoodNESS!! Lol.
Can anybody tell me what time danny will be at Lancaster,I know doors open at 2pm.Because I would like to go I live 3 hours away, I do not want to miss him.

I had seen Windmills comments about Danny today on mjs, and now I see another hater is on mjs, insulting Danny. This person asked sarcastically if Danny could read notes and tried to make fun of his possible songwriting abilities.
I don’t know how strong Danny’s songwriting skills are, but he might turn out to be at least an okay songwriter. Maybe better than okay. We won’t find out until we hear his stuff, but I am interested in seeing what he puts out.

I had GAC on in the background and was listening to Jan talk to Billy Currington about his new album. He told Jan he did not write any of his songs on the new album and that he picked out People Are Crazy and Pretty Good at Drinking beer from a demo of songs from a songwriter and loved the songs and had to fight for them. He said he had been fighting for the Beer song for a long time and it is now on his album that just came out. Point – don’t let people (especially windbag) tell you that Artists have to write their own songs because they don’t.

I think Danny wants to write. He is someone who has something to say (his blog posts at the SHF site, the message songs he chooses, things he says in interviews and to audiences as his concerts). And he knows writing can help with critical approval, though it isn’t essential in country as much as say, rock. And it’s financially beneficial to get a slice of the songwriting royalties.
Whether he will be good at it, I don’t have any sense. If he is, I hope he goes for it. If not so much, I hope he doesn’t overdo it as I always feel bad for the songwriters who have artists “co-writing” without really making a big contribution, and thereby taking part of the financial income the writers would get. Maybe it all balances out if the writers have a better chance to get the artist to do their song, but still, I don’t like it.

May regret it but I left Be Somebody in the mj’s post. I was doubting that a hater would really watch all the videos through to even see that, or read the review where it’s mentioned. And the haters seem to be busy in the numbers thread anyway

Plenty of country artists don’t write their songs. Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw,… Has Reba ever written a song? Never heard of it if so.
I am definitely interested in seeing how Danny’s songwriting skills are.
I have seen some Idols that aren’t that popular now/weren’t that popular during their season like Anoop, Josiah Leming, and Jared Cotter write-co write some decent songs.
And then more popular idols like David Cook, Kris (at least popular on the internet) and others write stuff that doesn’t sound very good, IMO. I think that it might could go either way with Danny.
I wasn’t sure how strong Anoop’s songwriting abilities, would turn out to be, but I think he did a nice job on his latest single “All is Fair/”Crazy Love”. He co-wrote that with one of his best friends and has co-written other songs on his album.
And I think that song is a nice song, it’s starting to get some airplay on pop. I also kind of like his song “Lost and Found”.
Anoop like Danny wasn’t known for playing instruments on Idol, but he like Danny also plays two instruments. They both play the same two instruments (trumpet and piano).
I think being able to play instruments and being a choir director could help Danny out in the songwriting process. He might be able to come up with some nice melodies on the piano for songs he writes.
He might come up with some decent lyrics as well. I would like to see Danny try his hand at the songwriting process like other people have done.
He might come up with some nice stuff like Anoop did. And if his stuff isn’t that good, that’s okay. There are other idols, including some more popular than Danny that have written stuff that didn’t sound good. But they’ve still done fine.

Steph, I watched the Be Somebody viseo this morning and it actually was funny when he dropped the mic. No big deal, hey Brad fell off the stage during one of his songs.
What I did notice was Danny was a bit strained during the song. I was unsure if it was the effect of the video or his voice.

Thanks to Steph’s willingness to post all the current news and highlights Danny has a regular presence on that site, and so far it has remained positive in his thread too. Of course the best way to support it is for as many of us as possible from iheart to comment on it to show interest (even though we have already read it here) because there will be posters at MJ’s that only get Danny news from that site I’m sure.

Hi everyone. Thanks Steph, Lizzy, RachR and Asics for the Recaps and pics! From the videos, it sounded like Danny had a stellar night.
I thought Danny bobbling and dropping the mic was adorable and he made a great recovery! if there are people criticizing him, I would point out that it happens to the best of all entertainers when they are performing live. During the American Music Awards, Adam Lambert tripped up the stairs and had to roll across the floor to get back up. Another great recovery!

I hope Danny does write some songs on his next album. He did say it is is not easy, so I hope he chooses to add to his album only those songs that he feels very confident about. I believe Kelly Clarkson wanted to add songs she wrote to her second album, was discouraged by her label, and when she did, those songs were not as successful as those that others wrote. I’ m not sure what has happened with the 3rd(?) album as far as writing her own songs is concerned.

Do agree it is good to get people interested in Danny not on this site.
Despite what any of the Danny detractors say, he is doing a great job. I am proud of his success. He is building his career to be long term. He is making friends and contacts that you need to succeed in any business. The one thing none of them can say or take away from Danny is that he is one great singer. Whether you like IWNSG or not, he sings the heck out of that song. Hearing it live gives you goosebumps. The person who didn’t think he could read musical notes is a jack@#*.

Is it necessary to be able to read notes to be able to write music? I have no idea if Danny can or cannot read notes, but I know it’s not necessary. Just like you can play an instrument by ear, you can create music by ear. Paul McCartney cannot read music and wrote numerous songs. Stevie Wonder wrote much of his music in his early years without knowing how to read music, he did at some point take music theory courses to help in his writing.

Hi everyone! I’m back from the Humane Society thing. Drizzly today so there were lots of soggy doggies, but that’s ok, they were having fun. And I am not having such a good hair day myself today, lol! I think I flunked an IQ test this morning straightening my hair on a day like this. Talk about a pointless exercise! asics when we go to Vancouver if it’s drizzly I might have to borrow your
Cheryl I think Danny can read music, considering his musical background. I think once he gets into it that he might really enjoy songwriting – I base that on the fact that he seems to just naturally have good musical instincts. I know I’ve talked about it before but it really impresses me that he likes to do different things when he sings, and it’s safe for him to experiment I think even onstage because even when he goes off on a new tangent he brings it home on key and on time. And the last time at the Opry when the background singer was off on timing, Danny just integrated that right in and made it ok. I would think that talent will serve him well in exploring new melodies. And as someone was saying earlier, he likes to really think about the meaning of things and talk about his perspectives. The only thing I can think of that might inhibit his enjoyment of the songwriting process is that he is very action-oriented, and I think it can sometimes be kind of a slow and painstaking thing. He might fall in love with the creative process, and he might not. Either way it will be ok b/c I’m sure there will be no shortfall of songwriters who would be completely thrilled to hear their song in Danny’s voice.

Glad to see Danny stayed on mediabase at #38 for the published chart. At least he will stay on the countdown shows a week longer. He may be gone tomorrow though to start the new week.

Josie, I suspect you are right about Danny knowing how to read music. His musical instincts are amazing. I think his experience as a choir director has had as much benefit as any formal training would have had. He has learned to do those beautiful riffs and improvisations and I know that comes from church. My observation of church choirs is that they often do spontaneous “songbustion” and it is up to the director to take them there and to bring them back. Danny has those skills and it will help him with, as you said, exploring melodies.

I’m not sure whether to add media from Mass. or consider doing another thread. It might be good to do a separate thread as his new few appearances aren’t until early October, and may not be the type (or could, not sure) that surface a lot of media.
There are a ton of people (by Danny standards) tweeting from the Big E. Hope that is a good sign that he has a nice crowd, and some may be taking / posting video. I was surprised by how few cameras I saw out last night. Not that people weren’t having a good time, they just seemed more restrained than some other places I’ve been.

They play so much Christmas music early on it sure would be good exposure for him to have something for Christmas in rotation on the radio.

It did seem to me last night that the steel player looked different. I wonder if Kyle just couldn’t make this weekend or they have changed up the band. From the blog post by the musician with Craig Morgan’s band, it sounded as if he was sub’ing last night with Danny possibly.
Though if that was him, he must have changed clothes between acts as the person with Danny had a white shirt, and the one I saw in some pics of Craig appeared to have a black shirt on.
From the tweets, it sounds like Danny was on fire tonight. Long lines with thousands of people – that is what I like to hear – hope a lot are buying his CD.

Yes, the new steel player is with Danny’s band now (the guy from Craig Morgan’s band just must have meant “playing with you” in a general venue sense).

She also said Danny asks we keep requesting at CMT, GAC. He didn’t specifically say radio stations, but I don’t see why we can’t request a recurrent song at some levels.
She always talks a lot to Brandon and Ivan. Brandon said he knows Danny’s management well (Brandon has been around the block in Nashville remember) and that they know exactly what they are doing. They want Danny to be more than a flash in the pan.

I think the iTunes bump may be concert-related, people coming home last night and possibly today, and downloading his single / album. It doesn’t take a hugely large number of sales to move the iTunes rankings except toward the higher sections of the various charts.
Hi all. Back from Polish Festival. Ah, my tummy is so happy with all the pierogi! Not to mention the polka music. (They also had a piano recital to celebrate the 200th birthday of Chopin. I am just not into classical music, but the friends I was with wanted to listen. But when a violinist came on stage next, I hightailed it for the polka music.)

I listen to all of you talk about the Meet and Greets and you make it sound so easy. I don’t have a clue what to even say to this man. 
If anyone has advice pleas shout it out. Looking at the pics put a smile on my face. I want so badly for this young man to make it. I also like Blake Shelton and I and my daughter love Hillbilly bone. (Guilty pleasure) Glad that he is a friend to Danny. I think he has made some important friends and that is a very good thing. I take it the “bad stuff” at MJs is in another thread? Guess I will have to get my sea legs under me first. Don’t have a lot of time time and it’s late anyway.
Re songwriting. I have never understood why there are so many kudos attached to songwriting. Many great singers sing other people’s songs, and are not thought the less of. Nat King Cole, Elvis, Celine Dion, Reba. Can’t say whether Reba has ever written/cowritten a song, but I read Country Weekly and it always has articles about how country artists get their songs. There were articles on Reba’a last two singles, “Consider Me Gone” & “I Keep on Loving You.” With the first song, the songwriters shopped it around to Reba. With the second, I think the song was intended elsewhere, but Reba wanted it.
There are great singers, and there are great songwriters, and is very rare to have both in the same person. Taylor Swift can write songs, but IMHO, she can’t sing. Carole King is a great songwriter, and her songs are strong enough that the whole package works, but she’s not the greatest vocalist. Paul McCartney and Billy Joel may be examples of good songwriters who also sing well. Frankly, there are a lot of times when I hear a great song by a singer-songwriter, and I wish someone else would cover it. That John Mayer fella? Blah! (Not even sure I’ve got the name right.)
Can Danny write songs? I have no clue. I could see him being able to make contributions in a cowriting situation. If someone threw out a melody line, I could see Danny expanding it. And Danny is witty and often expresses himself (and his ideas) well in writing. So who knows? He certainly should try. But at the end of the day, he needs the bests songs possible (including some radio-friendly songs) for his next CD. So if his songs aren’t up to snuff, he needs to put ego aside and go with what will work. (I think Danny himself has said essentially the same thing.) Then he start writing again. Songwriting is a craft, and it is rare for someone to come out of the gate with “A+” work.
I would be extremely surprised if Danny can’t read music, given his work as a choir director. I went to a Catholic grade school, and every day after Mass, we had choir practice. The sisters taught us to read music, and they always used those pitch pipes! Can’t say I retained more than the bare bones, but I was taught it. Also with Danny playing multiple musical instruments, it just would surprise me if he doesn’t read music. (I do understand that people can play instruments without that background, but in Danny’s case, I think it is unlikely.) Music was too integral to his life for him to have been casual about it, especially when he became so active in his church’s choir.

I’m just so proud of our sweet Danny I could burst. Some of the tweets I’ve been seeing today about the turnout for his concert are unbelievable. This one, from someone I don’t think is a Danny fan:

One last thought about IWNSG before I go to bed listeners are connecting to the song. Nobody has heard it though for it to happen on a large scale I’m convinced that this. So when people actually hear I expect it to be braught back at a later time when it can get heard. Someone assumed that IWNSG was played on the radio and it was partly but at a level of a song above top 40/50 not under it. He really wasn’t played on the radio to a degree for it to move up. I think the highest he was at was around 24/25/26 spins per week most of the other top 30 song have plays in the 30/40 per the top station. I mentioned JD being in the mid 40s weeks ago when he was during Madison. He never got it that high only a few were above 20 plays a week which is between 2-3 times a day for his high played stations even though a few did hit 4 times once in a while and only briefly. He really wasn’t played on the radio even if they say they played it. A song played only once a day isn’t going to do that much even twice especially when no one is hearing it.
I do think it will be given another chance in time. I no longer buy the too sad theory but it is a sad song. The song has a lot of meaning to it like the other sad songs out there which have done well on the charts. Good night everyone.
