Iheart contributor RachR has shared her experience attending Danny Gokey’s concert Thursday night in Allentown PA, where Danny opened for Lady Antebellum. Thanks Rach!
When I had gotten back home from the Appalachian Fair show, I was hit with a rather emotional and stressful situation. So after a week of just pretty much going through the motions of day-to-day life, it was so nice to have the Allentown show to look forward to. Especially because I knew I had a meet & greet.
My dad was up from TN and attended the Allentown show with me. We got to the fair about 3 hours prior to the show. We stood at the entrance on the track for about 20-30 minutes. While we were standing there, Danny was on stage doing soundcheck. While we couldn’t see him, we heard him singing “Be Somebody”. I thought that was a nice treat! They let us in about 6:30. We went and found our seats then I eventually made my way over to where we had to meet for the m&g.
While I was standing there, I very briefly met Kathy-PA from here. Hi Kathy!!
Who probably thinks I’m psycho or something because when I’d gotten over to the m&g place, I had a big onset of nerves all of a sudden. So I wasn’t quite myself when she introduced herself. Which nerves shouldn’t have happened considering it was my fifth time meeting him and the previous time was only 10 days prior haha! So I don’t know what it was other than I had a little something to give to him. That did make me somewhat more nervous about it I guess.
Anyway, I was a little over midway through the line. There were several people ahead of me. When it was my turn, I walked up and he right away gave me a hug and asked me how I was and vice versa. I think somewhere in there he said he was a little hot. I’m thinking ummm yeah!!!
I gave him my gift I brought.. Then he said he saw on my twitter that I’d been having a tough time and hoped that I would be able to have some fun during the show. SO sweet! Got my pic and another hug! I sooo love his hugs!!
Went back to my seat and most everything up until showtime is a blur really. Except I did see Steph from a distance. I saw she was in the same section as me but further back. I went back after Danny’s set was over to say hi but couldn’t find her again. { Comment from Steph: Awww! I was probably up trying to find Kathy-PA, lol! } I was in the second row to the left side of the stage.
I loved my seats except for the ushers walking every which way it seemed during Danny’s set. I could have gotten some other great pictures but just as I’d get the perfect shot, someone would walk right in front of me. Now that was totally irritating. I’m making a mental note though if I’m going to get a seat that’s closer to the sides of the stage, I’m going for the right side rather than the left. He seems to go that way more haha! But the first of the few times he did walk my way was during WHTM, and he spotted me, pointed at me and I got an adorable smile! I’m so hoping a video of that performance will turn up somewhere.
Danny’s hour-long set was entirely too short, in my opinion. At least for this particular Danny Gokey fan who can’t get enough. He sang all of his songs as well as a few of the covers. No It’s Only though. Lady A was great too.
After the show I stood in the autograph line. Got a nice smile of recognition from Mike. When it was my turn with Danny, he gave another beautiful smile. He took my hand and said he hoped I was able to enjoy myself that night. To which I cannot recall what I said since I was too focused on having my hand in his. I went and stood behind the barricade they had up which is the only place you could take any pictures of him. I stood there for a bit and took a few pictures. At one point while waiting on the next item to sign he had a second for a small breather. He looked up at me and gave an adorable smile for the camera, however it was then that I forgot how to use a camera.
So I’d say it was an overall wonderful night. It was great to be genuinely smiling again after the week I had prior to the show.

Hi Rachel, I am glad to have met you. Are you going to Prospectors in Mount Laurel? Don’t worry about the m & g thing, there is so much happening there at once you do get a little preoccupied.
Listen, when we first got there the people at the gate were having trouble understanding that I had to go to Will Call because our tickets were there. I got them through the Lady A site because I figured they would be closer to the stage to see Danny. We had to wait 20 minutes in the car before they let us park. Then we finally go to Will Call and the woman cannot find my name on the list. I think she had a problem seeing things close up, luckily my husband spotted our name and showed it to her. You would think one of the requirements for reading a list would be for you to be able to see the list. Then I had to ask for the Danny meet and greets another fiasco, but she eventually found them. After all that I was
. My husband had to calm me down. We went to get something to eat and I finally got past it. I can be very impatient. I do things quickly, so I think others should do things quickly. If I had gotten in that line to see Danny right after all that stuff, I would have been not in a good place mentally. You would have thought that I was psycho.
Rachel our goal should be for you to see Danny so many times you are not nervous anymore. Next time we will get a chance to chat.

Hi Kathy. Glad you don’t think I’m too crazy then haha.
Yes I’m very much thinking I’ll be at Prospector’s. That sounds too perfect to pass up.
And really that’s the first time I’ve ever been nervous with
him. Even for the first time I wasn’t at all nervous. Don’t know what my thing was lol. I was fine with him after the show!
I was also at Allentown. I also thought that his set went much to quick. Although I did enjoy Lady A. I was up in the nose bleed section. I was on the autograph line with my ten year old daughter. She loves Danny so much and had certain things she wanted to tell him, but when she saw him she couldn’t talk. I felt bad for her. I am coming to the Prospector also with my sisters and my adult daughter. Would love to meet you guys and put faces to the names. I’m so excited. TTyL and See you there.
RachR – thanks for the great recap! It’s was great meeting you at the Appalachian Fair! I’m so glad you got to see Danny again, and so soon, too
I hope your stressful life situation gets better. Danny sure has a way of taking our minds off our troubles, doesn’t he
Loved your pics, too!
this part made me laugh cause it’s so true. I have missed capturing many sweet moments for this same exact reason. what is it about him that makes grown women forget how to function? lol
anyway, thanks for sharing your experience, Rach. Glad you had a good time.

RachR,
What an amazing night you had!!! You are such a lucky girl to have had that experience with Danny. I guess talking to Danny and having him hold your hand would make everyone’s worries disappear.
What did your dad think about the concert and Danny? Did he have a good time?
Enjoyed your recap.
