I’m not trying to be negative in any way but I just don’t get why Danny’s song is not selling. Do you think it is too sad and is just not a song that people want to buy even though they may like it when they hear it on the radio? It should be moving higher on Itunes as it moves up the chart but I don’t see that happening yet. I am wondering if the slow sales may be part of the reason RCA does not seem to be pushing the song harder. I realize there is not much we can do about it but it is something that I find puzzling.

I do think that it may be that it is a song that you listen to but probably not inclined to buy. Some artists will be single sellers while others won’t. MBD sold over 100000 copies so it’s not Danny.

Also, Danny has sold a lot more albums than most of those other artists except Chris Young (possibly Eric Church?), and anyone with the album would have a copy of IWNSG… Do Chris or any of the others have a banner running?
It does seem funny that they haven’t promoted the single for sale much, but maybe they are waiting or they are focused more on other priorities at the moment. It seems to me the past month or two has been almost entirely about touring with relatively few high visibility interviews, etc. My guess has been that may shift going into the fall, or at least would like to think so
I don’t think there is much difference in actual numbers on the iTunes country chart except toward the top part of it… Not positive where the country chart intersects on the iTunes top 1000, but even in the overall iTunes above the first few hundred it seems to be fairly small numbers with not a gigantic differential between say #400 and #1000.
I just finished voting on WSOC and giving Danny votes on the K102 Countdown. Hopefully Danny will make both those countdowns (Charlotte and Minneapolis) tonight.
Paula, I know you are at work and I hope you get time to read this post. Two of my daughters went to see Lady Gaga and they told me that she puts on a fantastic show. They went to Indy to see her and my youngest liked it so much she went to Chicago to see her again. If she wouldn’t be in London right now she would be going tonight. I think Danny will likely be one of those artists who is more of any album seller – than singles. And obviously the record label will make more money from selling an album, than a single.
I remember the criticism against at Kris – that he had a platinum single with Live Like We’re Dying, but then was only able to sell around 300K of his album. And the poor showing of his second single is even more disturbing – considering the re-recorded single version with Pat Monahan is not on Kris’ album. And I don’t think his ongoing album sales have all been that great, especially with all the promotion and visibility he has gotten as the winner of AI.

agree pigvet about Danny seems irritated not sure if it is with twitter but if you go back to Aug 18th that was another comment that got my attention. Just did not mention…..why encourage the negative so easy to do these days. The word nosy think is a key word in this last twitter.
I do not think IWNSG is to sad there are to many other songs out there right now with sad lyrics as well. If Danny had already had a hit let’s say this CD would be walking off the shelves. Each one of the songs on his CD would stand on it’s own and good changes to be a hit each. This is the part of paying dues….it will break. The better part of success sometimes is being successful which has a tendency to draw fire from those who do not want Danny to be successful. The higher you go on the tree the easier the target you are.
This is just an opinion that is not mine but was mentioned to us it would serve Danny better if he would distance himself from Idol. Danny is setting himself apart and proving himself to others.It will just take time. Regardless, Danny is doing a super job in country that hit of his is just around the corner. A talent as his will not be under a leaf very long.

Sometimes it not always about the talent. Look at Blake Shelton. LOL He has been in Nashville 14 years or more and because of Twitter he is now everywhere. He is not singing any different nor are his songs. I think it was Miranda that made a commit that he just had his first number one. Iam not saying Blake is not talented just it is not always the singing that gets you there. Danny will get there it will just take some time. I like the fact that he was got alittle fired up last night on twitter. The things that are said to him would make chills go up our spines I am sure.

Sharon the sales of a single are not something that is part of dues paying. No one can prevent anyone from parting with there money for something that is available. Getting rank on the radio, geting performance slots on television are dependant on that because that is someone else making the decision.
Danny’s lack of sales for IWNSG are not his alone, the other idols are running up against the same walls- Adams last single sold 1.5 million, the new one 336,000. Kris’s first sold 1.5 the second +/- 100,000. Even Carrie didn’t sell anywhere as many of Undo It about 300,000 compared to 1.4 million for Cowboy Casanova.
In regards to album sales danny still has the #2 selling debut album behind Easton (who’s radio play runs rings around Danny, I attribute this to the as my DJ’s refer to it as the George Straight lite factor, thats how the introduce his songs) so while the bloom is off the rose a bit now, he actually is at about the same level Chris Young was at at in the same point of album cycles.
I don’t think Danny will ever lose the idol connection, Kelly never did. Idol is a self identifier that press will use and it is also where he came to prominence. I say use it to your advantage as Carrie does, if you note they put her in front of that audience as often as they can.

I think Danny’s single sales are low for several reasons.
He hasn’t broken out of the Idol bubble yet. He is making new fans, but until he gets a lot of radio play I don’t think nonfans will pick up the single.
I agree with Lizzy about the sad song aspect. Younger people are the biggest buyer of singles and they seem to prefer upbeat songs. Same goes for video. Look at LBB- crummy song that didn’t go far, but everyone loved the video because it was fun and humorous. Yes, Carrie and Miranda sold a lot of their videos but once you are a star things will sell themselves.
And Steph has a point too, in the radio play area he’s at, he has sold a lot more albums than some of them, so people have the song.
I think if (when ) IWNSGB goes top ten it will sell more to nonfans.

Carrie has sold alot of singles with the biggest sellers being the lead singles off each of her albums. BHC sold alot because it crossed over and “girl gets cheated on then gets revenge” will always sell a bunch. Her other singles sell but are not gold sellers.
One hopes that Danny will sell a bunch of IWNSG but if it doesn’t happen it’s possible the next will.

I think that Adam has done a pretty good job selling singles (and albums.) His third single IIHY will more than likely go Gold. Adam’s third single IIHY started off a little slow, but I think it’s starting to move close to the pace that WWFM did. Even if he doesn’t go platinum with IIHY, he will end up with at least 2 gold singles from his album, (WWFM, IIHY), and I think that’s pretty good.
Kris did well with his first single, his second one is not selling as much, though it has went up some on Itunes the past couple of weeks. Because some old episodes of him performing on shows like Ellen aired and helped boost his sales.
I don’t think he’s going to get a whole lot of singles sales with TT, because the song is not doing well on pop. And it’s not really flying up the chart on HAC either. Maybe he will do better with a third single.
Archie’s first week sales for his latest single off his newest album were decent. But radio hasn’t really taken to his song yet, and I think that his song is actually struggling a bit on radio right now. I don’t think he’s really going to move up in single sales, unless radio plays his song more.
Hopefully though he will move up on radio. Because how he and David Cook fare with their 2nd albums, could be representative of how some of the season 8 and season 9 idols could do with their second albums.
Allison isn’t doing well with neither album or single sales, but Allison isn’t getting really any radio airplay.
danip, when you lay the numbers out it tells a lot, as an example Reba (73) XM played the heck out of it, fickle.
Danny’s needs more exposure of from radio/national promotion and that would help him out with single sales. But he just might not be much of a single seller either way. I think he might not really be a single seller right now.
When Danny’s songs get played on tv, his album sees more movement on places like Itunes/Amazon. His single might move up a little bit, but it never really sees significant movement. Rarely ever have I seen his single get more movement than his album on Itunes/Amazon. His album is always the thing that tends to benefit from any little exposure he gets.
The good news about that is, that when people hear his music, they are more likely to buy his whole album, instead of just his single. More money is made from an album being sold than a single being sold.
The bad news is that they really aren’t buying his single. And I do think radio pays attention to how well songs sell on places like Itunes. I think that could factor into what songs they play and how much they play different songs. I’m sure radio takes note of stuff like Taylor Swift soaring to #1, on Itunes, shortly after her latest song came out.
Danny didn’t have big sells with MBD, and he’s definitely not really selling a lot of singles with IWNGB. If he moves up on radio and got some national exposure on tv that would help. But he might just not be much of a single seller at least not right now. He is definitely more of an album seller than he is a single seller.

Blake Shelton has had several #1 songs. He is a bad boy and that is what gets him in trouble with the industry. Probably being with Miranda makes him more acceptable now. Plus he got rid of the long hair and before that he had a mullet. He is very handsome guy now and that helps too.
Danny is a good guy. The industry likes him. He just has to be in for a little while. Some are probably suspicious because he is from WI and maybe would leave country music. He has to be tested.
He is selling albums and selling out his concerts. He will be fine.

You know who is a album seller and just had his first #1? JayZ You know how many people would love to be as successful as he is. Too many to count.
I think the same of Bruce Springsteen. He is more of an album seller too.
People love their concerts too. They give it their all.
This could be Danny’s path too. He will eventually get that big hit.
It is kind of a catch 22. Single sales are taken into consideration by program directors in deciding on how much rotation to give a song. I have read this fact often. For example, If I Die Young is selling like hotcakes and because it is, the label is advertising more and program directors are paying attention. When a song sells, the PD’s think there is interest in the song and that encourages them to play it. I do recall that when RCA advertised for MBDAAOM they talked about the high single sales. MBDAAOM sold quite well from the time it was released until the album was released and then continued to sell after the album was released. The last count was over 106,000 and that was in April I think. IWNSGB has possibly sold around 30,000, not even close to MBDAAOM. I know there are good reasons for it, but you can’t ignore the fact that the single is just not selling and I hope that doesn’t hurt its chances to climb the charts and doesn’t discourage RCA from promoting it. I have high hopes for this song because it is a great song IMO and I am quite confident that people will really like it if they get a chance to hear it.

Hmmm, that was an interesting tweet from Danny today; wonder what twitter comment made him mad.
If I had to choose between Danny being more of an album seller or being more of a single seller (If I couldn’t choose both), I would choose album seller for him. Though it would be nice if he could be both an album and single seller. I hope he does end up getting a bit hit some day.

Hi all, there was an interview this morning by Q106 in Madison. I heard it online while getting ready for work. Very short and nothing eventful, they just talked about his coming to the Taste of Madison, and the new AI judges. He said he had never been to the Taste of Madison before although he has visited Madison several times. He also said his mom would be coming, aww. They played IWNSG right before he came on.
In addition to the Vermont country station interview, AI Now is supposed to be interviewing Danny today. Not sure how soon they will post that.

Being an album seller is good because of course they make a lot more $$ off of it. And it means people hear Danny and want to hear more of him because they like his style and voice.

I think it’s a little early to say IWNSGB isn’t going to sell. If he gets a little PR and if radio gives it a chance it might sell.
I do think certain songs lend themselves more to singles purchase- songs with a hook and upbeat songs, IMO.

I was out a lot today but I got to do a lot of requesting this morning before I left. He had a nice move up the chart last week and I hope that will also influence the decisions. Cherie, it depends how early you go regarding parking. If you are real early, you could get free on street parking. Otherwise, lots of parking ramps with much cheaper event parking than Milwaukee, LOL! ($4?)

Danny should continue to sing what he is singing. 99% of the audience that sees him in concert loves him. He can’t please everyone out there so he should continue making the people who attend his concerts happy. He only has 10 songs on his album. He has to keep the majority of the concert up beat with songs that people can get revved up to. Just ignore the negative comments and remember, Danny knows what he is doing and how to please the concert goers. He has gotten rave reviews from numerous bloggers and from the media. Keep the Faith

Erik, Danny is great on those live performances of some cover songs. With only one album, he has to do some other material, too. Also, Lady A does covers, Sugarland does covers. He really gets the audience moving with songs that everybody knows.

Erik, what I am finding to be essentially true is that twitter is pretty much ruled by morons and sociopaths. Does twitter rule the world? Not yet. So don’t worry about it too much. Yeah, covers, Sugarland even did several after having 3 albums out. Probably not a critics choice, but they are crowd pleasers. Danny’s “job” as an opener is after all, to rev the crowd up, and while singing all his own songs is great, crowds love high energy covers.

There are people on Twitter who are crazy. 
I first found that out when a lot of them were attacking Danny last summer. The other day a dude just randomly typed some hateful stuff about Danny,and used profanity as well.
It didn’t seem like he was provoked or anything and I don’t think he even gave an explanation for his hateful tweet. He just randomly tweeted a hateful sentence about Danny.
Plus there are people up there that are into pornography and nasty stuff. I had to block one person multiple times for that,who kept trying to follow me.
Sometimes there are porn people up there who like to randomly follow people.
Danny is right there are haters and crazies on Twitter. Even though there are also good people, intelligent people and interesting (in a good way) people up there too.

VC, I’m not sure if I’m going; it will all depend on my son. We are driving him to LaCrosse to move him into his dorm. La Crosse is a city (beautiful- in “Cooley” country- a french/cajun settled area that is nestled in picturesque hills and right on the Mississippi River) that is 2 hours north of Madison. If he wants us to leave him on Sunday we will head to Madison. But if he is insecure or wants us around (who am I kidding?
) we will stay.
So I will probably be there, although later and not in my usual front spot! Hoping to meet Sharon there, and of course the usual Milw. suspects and of course Toni!
Madison capitol area is just beautiful and it will be a great venue I think. Although could be a little crowded I think! My hubbie is already asking what other types of music
But if he ditches me, I can just be my usual crazy Gokeyholic self.
VC, I hope Danny makes it back down to Florida soon! I think we established earlier that you need to meet him and see him headline! He needs to meet the iheartie with the quickest voting fingers

Vickie, He is just the sweetest guy. So down to earth. You feel so comfortable around him. My sister in law and friend loved him too. It is so easy to want to help him succeed, in fact it is a pleasure. I would take him home with me in a second. Of course, only in a maternal way
, he is 4 years younger than my son. My sister in law was crushing on him too. Her first love is James Taylor, though. You just would like to sit around and shoot the breeze with him. Can we hire him just to sit around and talk to us and have fun? I’ll chip in. His mother should be so proud of raising such a wonderful person.

Well, the review on the opeing page seemed kind of
neutral. Sounded like they liked Danny and recognized his talent but didn’t get into his covers.
I don’t know what reviewers expect when you only have one album out

Also posted a review that already came in from Allentown. From the person who made the karaoke comment. In her review, seems she didn’t like T-R-O-U-B-L-E but otherwise it’s pretty favorable. Interesting it was a female reviewer and not that John Moser who has covered the AI performers going through that area.
I didn’t stay for Lady A’s full set but they did at least one cover when I was there, of Tom Petty’s Free Falling.

T R O U B L E was great really got the crowd moving. Lady A did two or three covers and they have two albums. He could do Its Only, but I think that is not really a good concert song. He put on a great show. There are some people you can never please.

Steph, at least most of the review was good. Did the audience seem “lost” like she said, when Danny was singing TROUBLE? Most of the time the audience seems to love that song when he sings it. Maybe she is one of those people who has to find at least one flaw in a performance.

I thought Danny did fine with T-R-O-U-B-L-E, and people were up on their feet that whole last part of his set.
Funny that she said the audience did a lot of singing along for WHTM. From where I was, Danny sang it great but the audience wasn’t too active or audible for the sing-a-long. They weren’t for Lady A either when they tried to get the audience to sing with them at one point.
Huge crowd. I won’t post much more than that, Kathy-PA should really have a chance to post her longer recap tomorrow since it was her first time seeing him with a longer set.
