. Thanks danip for the update today. Well, I did some early morning voting already. Danny is hanging onto #1 on all the polls that show the percentages 
. I voted of course of WMIL-Milwaukee/Minneapolis poll-k102 also. I hope we can at least get him a spot tonight on the countdown. It’s nice to vote early because I seem to be able to get through on all the polls quickly, espcially with my slow computer. I will definitely buy a new laptop in a couple weeks. Hi Gokeyworld! I’m back to “routine” and doing my bit of voting first thing in the morning and tomorrow I’m back to work and will be able to vote also from my work laptop.
This site has been buzzing lately and it must be partly due to Danny’s attention and appreciation to all the great Iheart fans and their efforts to support his career. I think it’s just great that we get to interact with our idol so much and follow Danny’s career step by step. Danny has such an amazing and loyal supporters on this site and it’s so good to be a part of this group. Hope to meet many of you sometime in the future.
It’s another hot and humid day in Southern Finland and weather forecast is predicting an all time record temperatures for tomorrow combined with bad air quality, because of the massive forest fires in Russia..
Does anybody have any idea how many people have been attending to Danny’s concerts, sincde he started his career in country music? This is not to include the big events where he has been the opening act for somebody else. It would be interesting to know how much he has been able to sell tickets on his own and bring in the cash for his record company.

Feeling kinda sick today, I think I got a flu. Eeeek. Sis and dad have been sick for some weeks so it was just a matter of time, I guess.

Box office-wise, I think Danny has had his own dates with as few as 200-300 people and up to 1500 or more.
Plus sharing in the Sugarland, Tim McGraw dates, country festival events etc.
The Detroit poll could use some more votes, in addition to the Minneapolis one. Right now Danny is in a three way tie for first place on the Detroit poll, along with Carrie Underwood and Steve Azar.

He sure looks cute messin’ with his hair on that interview. I find him quirky. He is definitely a man’s man, but seems to be real aware of his appearance unlike most men. I have to assume this is the result of label and stylist influence. They sure like him to look purdy.
Speaking of appearance… I see he has dared to wear a certain garment of interest on that latest video. Who knew fabric creasing could cause such a stir? Geesh. Next thing you know, men everywhere are going to be wanting some! Poor Danny. This is just going to stir up all the sassy talk again.

Pam, thanks for the info. Do you think that he is selling pretty well for a new artist in the country genre? Danny’s strength is in his live performances and I would assume his audience will get bigger as time goes.

I think that Danny’s sales went up because he’s doing good sized concerts again. His sales went down when he stopped touring with Sugarland as much for a bit and when he was on vacation.

I do worry about his own headlining tour, that he will be playing to people who already have his album, vs new fans. I know its good income for him and the label but may not support his album as well as the major tours.

Here’s something random but cool: my husband was doing a Yahoo crossword puzzle online the other day, and one of the clues was “‘My Best Days’ country singer Danny”.
I finally figured out how to make the voting easier on the WDEZ 7@7 poll. I didn’t know how to make the screen smaller, like Steph said, so I just press the “Page Down” key and I don’t have to scroll down every time. One hand on the “Page Down” and the other one on the mouse to click “Danny” then “Vote”. I just thought that I would share that. I’m so happy to not have to hassle as much with that poll.

Meant to say that the picture of Danny laughing in the engineers’ cap is one of my all time favorites. Makes him look like a little kid. (I mean that in a good way; Danny possesses the unfiltered joy of a child.) Also makes me remember what MeganJoy said about Danny when AI was interviewing all the Idols about wach other. Megan mentioned Danny’s squinty eyes when he laughs.

Matt B has done a review of Michael Sarver’s new album. He says that he doesn’t like it as well as Danny’s but thinks it’s pretty good and that Michael could have a career. He suggests them as tourmates which honestly I don’t really like that idea. I want to see Danny with someone who can help attract new fans to him, whether it’s an established act or another newer act that opens for him. Not enough synergy with two guys who just came out of AI.

If Danny has two openers, Michael could work well as one of them. Michael was the opener for the AI tour his season, and people said he did a great job of getting the crowd engaged and pumped up for the show. I’d like to see Danny have at least one opener who has a current or very recent hit on radio, someone who is going to pull in fans of their own. Michael would too of course, but I assume that at this point, many of them would be people who would want to see Danny anyway.

Josie, agree 100%. I do NOT think Danny should tour with Michael. He has enough of an uphill road to climb being taken seriously in country without teaming up with another AI contestant who specifically said they “weren’t country” during AI. I do like Michael, very sweet guy, although honestly, I liked him better doing R&B than the country I’ve heard from him.
Also, Danny is nowhere near the place in his career where he could be a mentor on tour- he needs to keep opening with more well known acts, like Cherie said.

I don’t think Danny and Michale touring together would be a good thing. I think two recent idols touring together is not a good idea unless it is two well establish former idols touring together, or at least one very well established idol like Carrie touring with a newer idol. I think Michael and Danny are too new to the country scene and country music fans might view the two of them as the “idol goes country tour” and not take them as serious country musicians. Maybe when they eventually have both established their careers and are less attached to the Idol label, it might be a good idea.

I agree that Danny should be an opening act but the second act instead of the first. That is the next step up for him. I would love to see him on a Keith Urban or Carrie Underwood tour. He can still do his spot tours alone along the way while he builds up his fanbase. I also think he learns alot from each major artist he tours with making him a better performer. He is like a sponge soaking up all that info.

It’s not just you….youtube drives me crazy! I have found if I let the video run it’s course (I mute it and do something else till it’s done) and then repeat it, the second time through it doesn’t break up like it does on the first play.

I was out and about at lunch and called WMZQ to request his song and the DJ (Jenni I think) told me that song is really hot right now – it won the KAT fight two nights in a row and was the most requested song and told me she would try to get it on. I thought that was kinda cool. This stuff we are doing on this nighttime polls and contests is creating great buzz for Danny’s song.
Something is definitely wrong with the polls. Wonder if the numbers that the radio station peeps sees are the same as what is displayed?

Agree 100% and then some about Michael Sarver. It might be fun for them to do a charity event together now and then, but for regular touring I think Danny should go out with a mainstream non-AI country artist just as he has been. Preferably as someone said, an act who has at least a degree of recognition in their own right and is signed to a legit Nashville label.
Michael seems to just be putting a band together. The only dates I’m aware he’s done were at church venues and last week in a mall for his album party. I think he needs to book some club dates in country music clubs, maybe starting near his home base in TX. Possibly he has some bookings lined up that aren’t announced yet (or are posted on his website & we don’t know about them?) Also I don’t know what’s up with his single, there doesn’t seem to have been any add date for it on radio. Maybe they are still planning it, but are waiting after the album is out?
Anyone have guesses on Michael’s first-week sales? I’m guessing below 5,000 though for his sake would hope 5-10,000. Some of the Glamberts remember him fondly from the AI tour, he’ll pick up at least some sales from them.

Erik, maybe. But I think there are some artists whose songs are put up for radio adds who come from smaller or independent labels. I have seen Michael’s album release date shown on at least one site under the country genre, and the country music cable channels took his video. So the lack of any advertised add date for a radio single just confuses me.
Although Michael’s main label is small, I thought they had a relationship with Universal Music Group that would do him some good at least to try getting the single on radio. Maybe that’s more for store distribution though. Someone is playing it on radio as Brian Mansfield’s chart shows 15 spins last week. Not very many, but it counts even if that’s just a station near his home base.

We are not insane we are dedicated, hard working, intelligent women and men who know a good thing when we see it.
Was out for most of the day, see the discussion got hot and heavy about Danny’s pants. There is a reason why some women do the heart sign in that area. I believe it is not just the pants. I think God blessed Danny with more than a great voice.
Also, did anyone ever see the interview with Danny and Matt at the end of the AI tour when Matt said when he got home the first thing he was going to do was pet his snake? It is hilarious as was Danny’s reaction. Don’t know whether it is still out there.

Brian does comment on Michaels’ kerosene song and not entirely favorably. I wonder why he waited so long to put together a band as I would have thought the extra money from club dates would be welcome, plus would help to get is name known. i mean in Texas how far would you have to throw a stick to hit a 10 country bars (my guess 5 ft)
Radio is such a funny game anymore and not all that open to newcomers, although the full MB chart shows songs with as little as 5 spins, there is even a local group here that is at #75 on the chart today with 3 spins

yes Billy was #1 definitely heard that because I can’t stand the song for anything, Corn song was #2, #3 was john Rich the others I didn’t memorize. I don’t recall any of them having any if at many votes. Keith, Steve, Danny and Carrie weren’t on it. Carrie got #1 last night. What I’m hearing isn’t matching the polls most of the time.
Keith and Danny weren’t on it on Friday and they were going head to head all day. It’s not just Danny I’m missing.

Danip, maybe Michael has had a band for a while, but I didn’t see him mention it until recently. And the only dates he’s announced to my knowledge were all at free or inexpensive places he could book himself. One was a park, a couple times they were church buildings, and then that mall last week.
Interesting to watch how he is trying to break into the scene. In some areas they seem to me to be doing pretty well, more than I would have thought (video getting played on GAC, CMT; some writeups on CMT.com). In other areas, less so like the lack of a radio add date and anything that look like country genre bookings.

Perhaps Michael will be able to start getting bookings at country venues now that his album has debuted. It will help him to be able to include some nice quotes in his reviews from Brian M and Matt B in his promo material. I’m so glad Danny got to do his radio tour, I think it helped him immensely. I think both the experience of performing his songs over and over in front of groups of people, and also getting more comfortable with being interviewed were great for him.

Danip, re-read Brian’s review and sure enough. I guess I hadn’t expected either Cinderella Girl or the kerosene song to be on Michael’s official album. The title of Cinderella Girl was easier to recognize. I had to see it again to remember what the kerosene song was titled.

Josie I wonder how much stock is really put into reviews when booking shows. danny benefitted from people being able to see him during the radio tour and the response he got there. It allowed him to build a reputation for putting on a good show.

Danip, I think it probably helps that MS has an album out and can cite those reviews. He has a decent degree of legitimacy due to being an AI finalist, and having made an album that has been released, and having it reviewed by USA Today…those are each just some increments to it. Doesn’t guarantee a thing of course, but it should help, as compared to another guy trying to get gigs who doesn’t have those things. I don’t know how it all actually works but that seems logical anyway!

I went back over to Roughstock to see if any IdolLoonies had come out to play on MS’s review. Didn’t think there would be and there wasn’t. I wonder if Matt B is surprised at that, but of course, Michael was never a threat to Adam or Kris so he is comparatively ignored. I did find one person who took an unfair swipe at Danny (the “he’s only in country b/c it was his only choice” thing) so I thumped ‘em a little.
I do wish Michael Sarver all the best. He has always been very good to Danny. I also don’t want to rag on Michael because he is someone who seems to have a good heart. Erik, there was a belief as I recall that Word was a possible option that Danny was considering, but we have no way of knowing what kind of offer if any was finally made. I personally think Danny could have gone that route if that had been his choice. About the MS fan who swiped at Danny, I think they were feeling defensive about Matt B. saying Danny’s album was better. I can understand that stinging, but it’s not ok for them to swipe at Danny with a complete speculation.

I don’t know if that fan really dislikes Danny, I think they just felt bad Matt said he liked Danny’s album a lot more, so became defensive.
But no need to put Danny down.
Yes, Word was an option for Danny, according to Brian , but Danny said he couldn’t sign with a Christian label (because he’d be put in a box for sure).
And the last month before we knew he was signed he said “Two labels were bidding over him”. Don’t think one was Word, because he had already gone on record saying he wouldn’t sign with a CCM label. So who knows if the two bidding were both Country or if there was another genre involved. Either way, Danny always had options and I believe he chose the right option. I think he seems very happy; the nature (lyrics and melody front and center) of Country music and values seems to suit him to a tee.

Brian Mansfield wrote after Danny’s visit to Nashville for “meetings” that he had met with Mark Bright, who was/is head of Word. It was clear Mark was interested to sign Danny but Danny said that he wanted to go a mainstream route and Mark agreed they would explore other ways of working together. Seems to me that’s turned out pretty well so far
We never heard who the second label was that was supposedly negotiating for Danny before his deal was revealed with RCA Nashville. I believe they both definitely were country though. Just not sure if it was Sony and a non-Sony label, or two labels within the Sony house.

Any Michael Sarver fans swiping at Danny about not being country really need to be careful. Danny isn’t a traditional country performer by any means but he showed an affinity for country songs on the show. Where Michael made a point of saying he was not a country singer, and in one interview I distinctly recall his saying that he disliked almost all country music except Rascal Flatts and one other artist (Garth Brooks?).
A number of Adam fans have adopted him though, in part as he came out on twitter defending Adam when those fruitcakes from the fringe “church” were waving protest signs around on one of the tour dates.

Erik, some of us are Danny and Adam fans though. Have run into more of those than of Danny+Kris fans. It’s only the more intense fans online who “hate” any of the finalists, especially these days more than a year after the AI8 finale when Kris, Adam and Danny at least (and to far lesser degree, Allison) are trying to solidify the post-AI careers and doing reasonably well at it.

Steph, I do remember Michael making it clear that he didn’t see himself as a country singer. I’m glad there weren’t people swooping in to taunt him with that, but you’re right, not a good area for a Michael fan to push their luck. Just about as bad as a Kris fan criticizing Danny’s dancing, lol!

Erik, Steph is right, it’s not unusual to find Adam fans who like Danny. I’m also an Adam fan although I am VASTLY more invested in and interested in Danny. But there are Adam fans who say very supportive things about Danny and his fans. There are still a few fans, of whatever stripe (Adam or Kris fans) who go on the attack. Not to be unkind but those are generally people who are not smart enough to understand how they were duped by the idolatry hysteria, or are too messed up in their heads to care. I’m not talking about people who might just not care for Danny all that much, I’m talking about the OTT vicious or hysterical ones.

I know there are people who are Danny and Adam fans I follow some myself. You know what I’ve noticed? Adam and Allison just did interviews about their 2nd Album, Kris and Danny Haven’t. We know about Danny, he just started his career, Kris’s Album has been out for 8 months and he hasn’t gone gold yet. This makes me worry.

Erik, I agree. Of course we can’t group all fans of one Idol into one category and I know a lot of the Adam fans at MJs are nice to Danny, but I know on AI forums they openly discussed how Danny was a threat to Adam and there was an organized effort for Glamberts to vote for Kris top 3 night until he overcame Danny on DialIdol (not sure if they really liked Kris more or more likely thought he would be easier to beat)before they started voting for Adam.
Its funny how one of our friendly trolls Mighty (an Adam fan) comes out to play when Danny starts doing well (suddenly back dissing Danny with all the Danny news lately). I can understand why some Kris fans might feel defensive; since its widely acknowledged Danny fans are responsible for his win; but Adam is doing well for a new artist; I just don’t get the hate on Twitter and elsewhere from his fans (although many of them are definitely on the youngish side, which would explain it: Immaturity does not blend well with competitiveness sometimes). Of course I’m not dissing all young fans; Erik is a fine example of a mature beyond his years fan

I’m also a fan of adam. Ididn’t buy his album though because it’s more poppier than I thought it was gonna be. His debut single For Your Entertainment was not good. It was very Brittany Spears pop.

I didn’t care for Adam’s first single all that much either Erik. I like the ballads on his album much better. He’s a fantastic singer and a nice person, but his musical direction doesn’t resonate with me so much. I’m glad he’s doing well though, and I expect his future albums will have a similar story, some of it I’ll like and some I won’t.
Danny’s tweet a few minutes ago is so “Danny”….he really is like a big kid sometimes!

STEPH, re your 12:06 a.m. post: I saw that post on Roughstock, and I came SOOO CLOSE to calling him/her out about Michael saying point-blank that he didn’t want to do country. But I thought of Josie, our resident hater whisperer, and sucked it up and bit my tongue. Plus, I really don’t want to go there. However, I did take a swipe at the fan, asking if he/she realizes that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, and that Michael could get a lot of sales from Danny’s fanbase, and why would he/she want to undercut that?

Ellen, I am glad you find my hater whisperish ways to be worthy of consideration, lol! I think the point you made was very good, it would be better to try to engage Danny fans to be helpful to Michael than to make them mad. Michael has been very supportive of Danny. I actually wish Danny would tweet about Michael’s album release because Michael has done it for him. Perhaps he will tomorrow.
