Amy’s Recap: Danny Gokey with Tim McGraw Charlotte, NC

My recap won’t be too long as we only got two very short visits with him. At meet and greet before the concert my friends and I were standing mid-way through the line. I was pleasantly surprised when he recognized me, called out my name and waved as he came in. I know it’s such a small thing, but I will never tire of that. Once it was our turn, I was first up to get my hug. I said I know we’re not supposed to talk but I just have to thank you for doing the interview for the site with Erika and sending out the tweet. He went into how much he liked all the tabs for voting/requesting again. Mike came up and asked if I was taking too much time and Danny, said No! This is the owner of iheart. Mike said, “Oh! We love you guys you do an awesome job!”

I asked him about the next single and he said they’re deciding. He knows what he wants but asked me what everyone wanted. I said, “Well, I can tell you what I want…Crazy Not To.”  He kinda of laughed and said that’s what he wanted to because he hasn’t done a romantic song yet. I REALLY hope that happens but it sounded like it was still up in the air. I didn’t have time to ask about the fall or winter tour. He mentioned again when I gave him the gift about us making him fat with all the food.

My friends got their pictures and Connie got hers and then all the sudden I remembered my friend and I had decided to get our arms autographed since we hadn’t brought anything. I already have several things autographed so I just hadn’t thought of it.  Anyway, he was happy to do so except he had a hard time because I was so sweaty.  It was RIDICULOUS hot out last night.  I had sweat going everywhere!  He took some time to keep going over the signature since it wasn’t writing well.  Anyway, pretty sure the people behind us were probably getting irritated by then and we happily let them have their turn.

His set was awesome, as always.  He did TROUBLE again and that along with What Hurts the Most seemed to get the most fan interaction.  I Will Not Say Goodbye was just gorgeous. I saw several people singing along.  Also I was surprised how much I Still Believe seemed to connect although we’re in the Bible belt so maybe I shouldn’t be.  It actually was my favorite part.  I loved the girl 2 rows in front of me when he was talking about believing in God and she was like, “See!  He’s like perfect. I love him!”  Inside, I was all, I know, girl!  He also did this little set of reggae music rift thing that I got a little video of and it was uh-mazing.  I mean, seriously, I could barely contain myself of the sexiness.  His lower register has just grown leaps and bounds and it just sounds so good.  There were also some very high notes he hit that were impressive as well.  Overall, we had a very, very sparse crowd at that point and it was still light outside but I think he got great reaction for what he had to work with.

Tim McGraw was simply amazing.  I’ve always been a fan of his music but never realized just how much raw talent he has.  His voice sounded like it was a recording and he was just flat out sexy in his jeans and white, sweat soaked t-shirt.  Danny can take that page from his book anytime.

At the end, we slipped out 2 songs before the end and went to get t-shirts.  I got the pink one with the heart and got him to sign them.  When he saw us, he said, “Back again?”  My friend told him his set was awesome and when I got up they asked if I washed his autograph off and I said “NO!”   A few guys around him were asking if I was going to get it tattooed, I said “No, I love Danny but no way.”   They were really rushing us through that line and it was dark so it was really hard to get pictures.  They wouldn’t even let me give my camera to my friend after they were done to take pictures when it was my turn.  Oh well!  Also in related media-fail, my Flip died during Danny’s set so I didn’t get TROUBLE recorded which is the only one I had planned to record just because we were so far back and you could barely see him.  They also didn’t have the screens up so it was nearly pointless to get video. I did get a few minutes, posted below.  Hopefully Connie or other fans who attended will have some decent footage.

Anyway, as always, it was great seeing him but I always feel like it was so short and there was so much more I wanted to say.  Always next time though right?
