Danny Gokey Ho Chunk Casino 5-27-10
We started out from up by Minneapolis, MN – so it took about 3 hours to get there.
We get to the hotel at 5:30pm, ck in, drive around & find our room. Took a walk to find our m&g passes & food. Luckily they were right next to each other because we didn’t have much time. Got our passes. Since we bought them through Sophia’s Heart, we each got a SH bracelet. Good thing, mine is starting to wear out
Ate the buffet, not so great, but it was fast. Had 25 minutes left to go back to the room, change, and come all the way back by 7:20! Made it! Lucky for us they were running a bit late. Got at the end of the line, like I wanted, and waited.
Finally we got to go in. Waited patiently for our turn. Krista went first. She got him to sign my picture frame. I went next. Got a hug first, then gave him the Rascal Flatts FAM bracelet and telling him he was an honorary member of the FAM. He held out his wrist for me to put it on him (nearly fainted). He said, oh yah, you’re RF….um…something right? (Twitter) I’m like, yah. He says, oh you said you would be here today. I’m like, yah, I think I mentioned it once or maybe 20 times. He has such a great laugh
Then I pulled out my scrapbook for him to sign. He said I did nice work
Then I gave him his scrapbook, but he didn’t have time to look at it then so he handed the bag to the security guy. He asked me where we were from. I said up by Minneapolis. He smiled and said, how far of a drive is that? I’m like, about 3 hrs. The he leaned in for another hug and we were on our way.
Show started out weird. It was a small venue, as opposed to a stadium, but no one stood. At all. (Lots of older people) All I could think was, I did not drive 3 hrs to sit my butt in this chair the whole time. Danny was doing great, and by the 2nd song a few people stood, so we did too. Luckily the girl behind us told us we could stand if we wanted to. He did all the songs from the album plus 5 or 6 others. Him and Brandon (keyboardist) did a fun montage of songs with some girl on the stage. She was in heaven. She touched his FAM bracelet though:\ I think she wanted it, but he didn’t give it up!
And it was nearing the end where he does some cover songs & My Best Days, so he said that whoever wanted to come up by the stage to come on up! So we grabbed our crap and got up there of course! He started with T-R-O-U-B-L-E! Then My Best Days, P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) and finally LIFE IS A HIGHWAY! OMG!!! Tons of jumping, singing, and dancing! So much fun! We kinda felt the floor shaking & thought we might be going through. But just kept dancing and jumping! Then he said he was gonna do signing of merchandise at the merch. table after the show. So we got in the big line. It moved pretty fast though.
We got up there and I said, we’re back! Did I mention is smile is AMAZING?! Got him to sign our Sophia’s Heart shirts we bought for $10 and then I whipped out my artwork for my next tattoo. He looked at it for a second and made a suggestion. I’ll save what it was for when I get it done and post my picture. Then he must’ve remembered my RF tattoo because he grabbed my wrist to look at it and showed his manager who was standing there. I said, well, I haven’t gotten to show it to RF yet, but maybe I can when I get them to have you open for them. Don’t worry, I’m still working on that
Then I had him sign the bottom of my tattoo (artwork). His manager says, is the signature gonna be part of the tattoo? I said, well, I hope so! He goes, oh, I wanna see a picture of that! I look at Danny and said, oh, don’t worry, I’ll tweet you a pic for sure! He said thanks and we were on our way.
I could’ve stood and talked to him for hours. He’s so sweet! If you haven’t seen him yet, DO SO! You won’t regret it!

Hi Kim!
Oh, my gosh we stood right next to each other in meet and greet line! You guys were last, but then we switched because Jen and Michelle ran back to the SHF booth!
You told me you couldn’t come June 6 to the fundraiser (I was giving my spiel, lol) because you were from the twin cities.
Too bad we didn’t admit to each other we were both iheartie fanatics! Small world.
Great recap!

Hi Kim, I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet you, also! It was a great concert (especially when we got to dance at the front!) Please post a note next time you’re at a Danny event so we can make sure to give you a big hello and a hug.
Thanks for explaining about the bracelet! And yes, please work on RF so Danny opens for them, LOL! Jan
Great recap Kim. Sounds like you had a fantastic time. Keep working that Rascal Flatts angle – I would be thrilled if Danny opened for them. I think Danny could pick up a lot of RF fans because their types of songs are similar.
I’ve converted a BUNCH of RF FAM to Gokey-holics! They have been my favs since 2002 and then here comes Danny and is right up at the top with them. To see them tour together, well, let’s just say my brother in Cali might hear me scream if that really happens! I’m going to be curious to see if he wears the bracelet at other events
My fav part was dancing in front of the stage! I really thought we were gonna be sitting the whole time. How boring would that have been! For us and him! He loves the energy!
KIM, what is a FAM bracelet and honorary member of the FAM? Sorry to be clueless. I take it that there is a Rascal Flatts connection. You will have to forgive me — I’m new to country music.
BTW, I recently gave a friend a copy of MBD for her birthday. I figured that she would like the lyrics if nothing else. Much to my surprise, she said she enjoys country music. Would NEVER have guessed! Later, she said she and her husband listened to the CD and said that Danny reminded them of Rascal Flatts! How cool is that?
Hope you will come back to iheart to post a pic of your new tattoo! You have us all curious!
Danny provided a great show at Ho Chunk! He is a great singer and has wonderful stage presence. The invitation to come to the stage and enjoy the final songs for the evening was the best! After the concert I talked with two fans that had driven from Indianapolis that day and were going back but said they wouldn’t have missed meeting him. Can’t wait for the next opportunity to enjoy his live concerts.
Ellen – The FAM are what we call the members of the RF Fan Club (family). The bracelet is a silicone bracelet that I had made up and member of the RF FAM buy them from me. It says Gary, Jay, and Joe Don call me Rascal Flatts FAM. (They also glow-in-the-dark). We got them to identify who was a member of the Fan Club when we are at shows. Since I know he loves RF, some of us decided he should be an honorary member. I’ve bought copies of MBD for my friend and my mom. I’m trying to convert as many Gokey-holics as possible. And yes, I will DEFINATELY post a pic of my tattoo when I get it. Now that I have Danny’s suggestion and approval, I want it NOW! Tx!
Thanks, Kim, for explaining. I really appreciate it!
Kim – I was there too! We also went to a meet and greet and I was shocked at how sweet he was. We tried to get up and dance during Get Away but were told by an usher to sit down. But I kept jumping up anyway. You would think I would have felt like a total moron for belting out What Hurts The Most when he brought the lights up, but alas, I didn’t. And when he finally asked us to come up, I didn’t wast anytime. Luckily we were right against the stage in the center. I actually had to do a back bend to get a picture of him when he was standing right above me. He is such an amazing performer, and you could actually see him feeding off our energy. Were you in the group of girls that were standing in the middle?
No, we were more towards the back. Our seats were way in the back, Section G. But as soon as he said we could go up, we grabbed our stuff and got up there pretty quick. It was the best part of the show! I really thought everyone was gonna sit the whole time. I thought, this is not good! Luckily the girls behind us said to go ahead and stand, so we did. Sorry if others didn’t like it, but that’s what people do at concerts!
Had the time of my life. My friend was blown away! Couldn’t believe how much better he was in person. Especially since he was sick! Who wouldn’ve known by those amazing vocals?
It was my 3rd m&g and yes, he is amazingly sweet! When he tells the story of how he proposed to his wife, I melt! You’d have to be Crazy Not To fall in love with him
We would have been off to your right kinda towards the front. We did feel bad standing infront of people – but honestly sitting was painful. My husband has congentital heart disease with a defect repaired as a child like Sophia, so his personal stories really hit home to me. And made me realize how lucky I am to still have him. After the concert we told him that we had been told to sit down by the ushers and he was shocked!
