Great recap Jan – I too have been told that I need intervention/counseling regarding my Danny obsession. However, my daughter is somewhat more understanding than the rest of my family because she has an even greater obsession with Lady Gaga (if that is possible). She goes to as many of her concerts as possible (meet and great passes and the whole nine yards) and dresses like her when she goes. Jan, I want to thank you for having the guts to ask Danny when IWNSGB will be released to radio. Now we don’t have to guess anymore and don’t have to wait as long as we may have thought.

Just watched MBDAAOM on GAC Top 20 countdown – per Nan Danny’s video has been on the countdown 16 weeks and still going strong. Just wait until IWNSGB video is released he could have two videos on the countdown – I know that Carrie had two going for a while. They premiered 4 videos on the countdown today that were added to the list to vote. As long as they keep MBDAAOM video on the voting poll when they add IWNSGB video, we can vote for both.

Relating to conversations a while ago about the Sugarland tour as an opportunity for Danny, found this interesting in comparison. Dates being cancelled for another high-profile country tour due to lack of sales, which doesn’t seem to be an issue much for Sugarland at the locations they have chosen. Good for Danny that he is on a successful tour.

Is Danny the only opener for some of the Sugarland tours? When I checked the tour dates at CMT they listed just Danny and Sugarland on many dates. I think that Jake is down opening for Sugarland, correct and Luke Bryan is opening along with Danny on the June 5th. Also, I remember someone telling me that Danny had some tour dates with Sugarland in the fall but I can’t find that printed anywhere.

Steph, I can’t see the SHF flyer, I just see a red x and a lot of blank space. I’m on IE.
Lizzy, on the fall dates, I think that may have arisen due to Wisconsin Vision originally having its contest prize as a trip to Tampa for the 10/15 show. They subsequently changed it to Atlanta in August (same link goes to a page that used to say Tampa but now says Atlanta). Can’t draw any definitive conclusion from this, but I assume that perhaps efforts are underway to get Danny joined up with a different tour in the fall that conflicts with some “spot” Sugarland dates that had been tentatively planned. That’s just a guess of course. I guess that there could still be some Sugarland dates, depending on the outcome of other plans. I hope that Danny’s team is also working on getting him lined up with lots more of his own shows (like maybe in…..SEATTLE!) but that probably has to wait until the other part is nailed down.
Does anyone know if he is the only one opening for some Sugarland dates? I was kind of hoping he would be because he may get a longer set. I really hope he can line things up to tour with another country act like Rascal Flatts or Lady A. I see that Lady A is still only announcing one opener so there is a possibility there.

Lizzy, that would be fantastic if Danny was the only opener, but I have my doubts; maybe they just haven’t booked a third person yet. Plus so many of those websites seem to have incomplete info when it comes to the tours.
No matter what tour he gets in the fall; I hope he’s not first, and I hope he gets a longer set!

Jan, I honestly don’t know if there are projection screens. I want to say no. I was there a few years ago with my daughter at some side stages and there weren’t any
. My daughter said to get there really early or you will never be able to see him. Of course I hope to meet up with everyone somewhat early. Lizzy- my daughter is a HUGE Lady Gaga Fan. Thank god I won tickets for her September show. I will probably be the only one sitting down- ha ha. I’m sure one of the local tv stations will have a little coverage of Danny at Wisconsin Vision. Connie, my daughter did see Danny at Grafton–but that was just the beginning of his evolution as a performer. He didn’t even have a band at that point.
I’m dragging, I mean taking, her to Rockton. I’m hoping a full live show will cease the grief I get. But if not, hey, not everybody will be a fan. She’s certainly not a hater, just indifferent and mighty perplexed about the rest of her family being such fans.
Hmmm….I stood next to a young lady (and her mom?)in the autograph line, she told me her dad was a VIP with Briggs and Stratton but he couldn’t get her Meet and Greets for Summerfest. But I wonder if someone has Summerfest connections so we could find out if they are fully preparing for the crowds Danny will have that night? There must be portable big screens that could be installed for such a big event.
For those that went to his homecoming concert last year, could you at least hear well?

Josie, thanks. That is the same error I see in IE, but don’t get with Firefox. I’ve played around with several changes including reloading the flyer, and can’t get it fixed. Aaack.
The link from the flyer still works though, so if any are interested but can’t view the flyer you can click on the box where the image ‘should’ be and it will take you to the SHF page.
Maybe Erika can check what’s up with that pesky flyer pic when she comes back on. Even though I know she loathes IE, a lot of site users probably use it and may be at least some others will have that error also.
Pam, that’s a great idea if any ihearties would be able to sponsor someone to attend the SHF fundraiser in Milwaukee. It’s only $10/ticket from what I read, and would make some child and their family very happy, I suspect. Happy to donate for some tix myself for people in that community.
As far as I know, Jake is done with the Sugarland tour but Danny’s other dates are as first opener with either Luke Bryan (June) or Little Big Town (July/early August). I haven’t seen any confirmed dates past August 6th in Alabama, if we assume that the announcement for Tampa by that radio station is suspect since WV pulled out of it.

I have never seen screens up at Summerfest, highly doubt they will be there for Danny.
They have had winners like Fantasia play a smaller stage without screens.
There is no preparing for crowds at Summerfest; there are frequently huge crowds with barely room to walk on popular nights; so I don’t think it will be anything unusual.
Yes, it is likely a lot of people won’t see him on stage. I think you will be able to hear him fine; as long as the crowd doesn’t spill so far away that you are hearing the music from the next stage instead! This is one reason I have warned people who are considering traveling great distances to come (esp. if you don’t want beer spilled all over you).
On the other hand; there will be energy and great love for him like no other venue, in my opinion!
Not surprised re the passes. They already have 90 out; and we know how long it took at HoChunk for 90. And there will not be the flexibility at Summerfest to start late.

Two concerns are the SHF meet and greet (have a feeling I will have to choose that or staking my spot), and if people are allowed to go early like that and wait for the concert to have a place near the stage?
I plan to see Danny again in a less chaotic full show of his and will get a SHF pass for that in the future, but seeing his performance and hearing his voice live is what I most hope to experience in choosing to come to Summerfest….as well as meeting fellow Danny “fanatics” and ihearties (and Erika!), and seeing the hometown love too!
As one of those traveling a great distance I appreciate you giving the full picture of what to expect. My plan is to arrive at the venue when it opens and head right for the stage to spend the day there, hopefully “holding” a good spot for the concert. I am willing to sit it out all day to be close to the stage
I want to give my SHF pass to someone if I have to choose between those options, and I think there are people that still would like to be able to have the m&g pass (I wouldn’t ask for them to pay for it….my gift

Hold on until we know more about when/how the meet & greet will take place. At Ho Chunk we were in groups so you had to be there with your group.
You won’t be the only iheartie sitting there all day on the benches, I’m sure. We will all help each other out and hold spots for bathroom breaks, hopefully meet and greet and food.
I’m with you; would rather hear him, but then again, you haven’t met him yet and you really don’t want to miss that either. Don’t worry, I’m sure something will be worked out; things have a way of working out for Danny fans

With his radio peaks his song peaked #5 in Milw, #5 in Chicago and it did hit #1 in Riverside, CA where ever that is.
If you leave your spot during Summerfest you can have someone save it for you during M & G or whatever. If you’re there all day it’ll be hard not too.
Glad that everyone who went to Ho Chunk had fun loved reading the recaps. I’m so glad we have a date for the single release and something to look forward too, 3 weeks counting down.

There is a Comment box somewhere on the SHF order form. Just look out for it before submitting your final order. This is what I wrote in mine.
If you’ve ordered m&g tickets, it looks the same as the box where you write in the name of the person who will use the pass if it’s not the one buying the tickets.
I added a note to the site posts here, that people should watch out for the Comment box and write in their instructions.

I haven’t seen any openers listed yet for the Sugarland dates that I checked in Sept/Oct for those that were shown. So if it’s not him, whoever it is isn’t announced yet. I would rather him get Lady A then Sugarland though because I think he fits with the fans better. Since Lady A is more crossover.

Pam mentioned that she was in touch with SHF reps about the idea of supporters gifting tickets. They should be keeping an eye out for that, I hope.
ASICS, do NOT give up your meet & greet pass! (And certainly do not give it up ahead of time. If worse comes to worse, I am sure there will be plenty of Danny fans at Summerfest willing to use the pass.) But I am pretty sure that Danny and his team are going to be aware of the logistical problems. First, folks have to pick up the pass in the first place, then get into groups of 30. So, in theory, there are two opportunities to lose a spot. I’m sure that something will be worked out!

Has anyone bought any S9 studio recordings? I bought a whole slew of them last year, but this year only Big Mike’s “It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing” so far, which I really like. I need to buy some stuff from at least Casey, because I grew to like him the best of the top 3. Last year I got at least 1 or 2 from everyone, I may do that again this year. Not sure how much longer they’ll be available, I haven’t heard anything about that.

Josie, thanks! But I can’t take credit- Toni was the first to buy tickets just to support SHF even though she can’t go; and they were donated to kids at St. Marcus, so it was really her that got the whole ball rolling; and Steph, Amy and Erika (and now Josie) have provided the PR.

Josie, I’ve bought some of Casey’s stuff from S9 (some of it anyway). “Don’t”, “Jealous Guy” and also the “Ever Loved a Woman” duet studio versions are all incredible. I always feel like I am cheating on Danny when I listen to them, but they are really good
If his duet with Bret is available I will buy that too. Was thinking of getting Crystal’s coronation song choice too; but nothing else at all moves me to purchase this year!

Re: the Country throwdown tour
It was here in Pittsburgh today and they were talking about it on the radio. I can’t even imagine how they could have 21 acts and get enough suooort for it. I feel sorry for the artists involved as for some this was there big chance to reach large audiences.
I truly do not see the resemblance between Danny and Robert Downy Jr. Oh, well. To each his own.

Good Evening. I figured I would comment before the site goes down tonight. I see a little bit of resemblance to RDJ. At least I believe it’s a compliment for Danny
. It will be interesting to see how the AI9 idols do this summer. They are lucky they have a tour, because I think some of them are going to struggle. I saw that Crystal’s boyfriend broke up with her the night of the finale. But, she indicated this was her dream. I think she will do fine, as probably Lee. I’m not sure about Casey or the others. Casey may be successful if he picks the right genre of music.

Ellen, their eyebrows look just about exactly the same, and their eyes are similar. They have the same coloring and other features are similar but not as remarkably so as the eyebrows. I do think they look alike, both very handsome men.
I love that Big D and Bubba video. They ought to have Danny on again asap, those guys are great together.
The very first time I saw Danny Gokey on American Idol the first thing I said is he looks like Robert Downey Jr. A month or so ago I was watching Sherlock Holmes with RDJ and the resemblence kind of scared me. They have the exact same eyes and very similar features. The whole time I was watching the movie I was studying RDJ – I could definately see Danny in him.

Blake’s tweet is odd I wonder if they’re at the same place sometime soon. I think he looks way better that RDJ and definitely no doubt Casey. I remember RDJ saying something like he was Danny Gokey at one point or something like that, someone just trying to fit it. I don’t remember the exact words but I took it to mean offense towards Danny.
I also heard about cancellations for some of the Keith Urban, Eagles and Dixie Chicks shows. That was a big one. I think it’s still happening though.

Lizzy I think it’s funny in that Big D and Bubba video when Danny takes his glasses off and looks at them and they freak out! I do think you can see the resemblance more when Danny isn’t wearing his glasses. And also more now that he is thinner. He certainly doesn’t need to lose any more though, in my opinion.

For all that are wondering, Ed did not have any problem hanging with all of the ladies at Danny’s Ho Chunk concert. “No problem” at all. A couple of times I wondered if I was ignoring him (with all my fangirling) and he was just fine and usually finding someone new to chat with.

Ellen, I always wanted to know the answer on how Daniel Jay Gokey got changed to Danny on AI. In fact I submitted it as a question to GAC awhile back.
Jen or Pam, will next Sunday’s event have a Q and A session? I think it would be a good question. I’ve been jotting down a few more when ever I think of one.
It was neat to see Danny singing without his glasses. He probably was getting sweat in his eyes, and took them off, BUT, I also think he knows we like to see him without, too, and he was treating us. Believe me, when his glasses came off, I whipped out the camera. But the man moves so fast its hard to get a good picture. I posted the best one I could get. I think he’s got beautiful eyes. Or as Nicole Kidman says, “kind eyes”.

I thought it was the producers idea, etc when someone’s got a long name or odd to shorten it a bit. I wonder what Lil rounds real name was, her’s was also changed. Daniel’s not that long though, there’s also other people named Daniel as well as Danny so that doesn’t make much sense to me. Danny has more of a cute and adorable feeling to it more than Daniel does. Cuteness factor?

About the names, I am pretty sure Lil Rounds name really is Lil Rounds. I remember her saying she was named for her grandmother, and her mom getting angry with Simon for calling her “Little”.
My husband’s name is Daniel, and he’s known as Dan and Danny and Daniel, depending on who you’re talking to. If DJG has always been known as Dan, not sure why they’d go with Danny. Maybe he has been known by that sometimes and always liked it, or maybe the producers did just think it sounded cute.

From all I’ve read, It was Daniel or Dan for the now man now called Danny. The fact that he says his full name in the audition in front of Simon, Paula and Randy, makes me think it was an AI creation. Randy is the first to call him “Danny Jay with the mad vocals”.
I’m sure there are lots of AI stories that will be told someday. How they prepared for certain videos to be taken,etc. I’ve always wondered if they told Danny to wear contacts the day of the cake fight because they planned a food fight? And of course, our competitive Danny hung in there until the very end with Allison!
Josie, I remember Lil explaining Ryan Seacrest that her given name really was Lil not Lilly not Little, etc.

& I just wanted to say that Robert & Danny definitely do not look much like each other anymore at all. I use to think so very early on during the audition times, but now, they’re two totally different people to me. & this coming from a big fan of both!
Robert is so gorgeous though. The man has really aged well considering all he’s gone through too.
Off subject. I’ve been perusing Amazon.com and saw Lee DeWyze’s earlier albums. So I listened to the samples. Whaaatt??? How come I never heard anything like that when he was on AI? He sounds good! No pitchiness. Voice in fine form and some interesting differences between the songs. Some of the songs I like are “Annabelle,” “So I’m Told,” and “Flower Child.” But I don’t lie his AI single, “Beautiful Day,” at all. Guess I would have to get iTunes to check out other AI songs. Would it be terrible to show my support by buying some of his old stuff?
In contrast, I listened to clips from an old Casey James album. It’s hardcore blues. Love the music but the voice is almost unrecognizable to me. Only one song sounds like the Casey we heard on AI. (If I’ve got the right Casey James?)
So weird. For Lee, I like his old stuff; for Casey, I like his AI stuff.
Guess I’ll have to bite the bullet and download iTunes if I want to check out any of the other AI music.
BTW, none of these folks move me the way Danny does. Just not even in the same league. I never get tired of hearing Danny’s voice!
Blake Shelton interviews and Danny interviews both appear on the ACCTV site with Kix Brooks. Maybe Blake was watching his interviews and checked out Danny’s. I think that it is fascinating how much Danny looks like RDJ. It’s something about the eyes. The look comes and goes, but it was in those videos quite a bit.

Back from Shrek and trying to get a last iheart fix before the site goes down.
I am one who really thinks Danny looks like Robert Downey Jr. Of course there is a huge age difference; but it is in the eyes and eyebrows; as well as the face shape. RDJ has very piercing eyes , just like Danny. I have always found him quite attractive and he has aged well IMO.
I would imagine the producers had Danny switch his name. Danny Gokey flows so much better than Dan Gokey and it makes him sound cuter.
Jen, your gravatar is nice with Danny! Jan, do show yours! I think the lighting /background was better at HoChunk- the cement block wall at Colorado didn’t do much.

Ellen, the theory around the net on why Idol pimped Lee so much is because he does records well. I have only heard Annabelle and didn’t like it, but I know a lot of people like his earlier stuff. I guess he has quite a bit of experience; it is kind of odd that he had so much trouble singing on Idol
but its a huge audience- I’m surprised more of them aren’t that nervous.

Been sitting here this evening with my 18 year old granddaughter who loves Danny now as much as I do and I’ve been going to bookmarked vidos and we’ve been watching some of the tour videos and talking about how cute he is in Maria Maria. She had never seen them.

I’ve heard Danny’s mother refer to him as Danny. Also saw that he was called “Danny” on his first birthday cake (yes, I remember).
Anyway, I imagine that he was called Danny when he was younger, and as he grew older was more often referred to as “Dan.”
At any rate, “Danny Gokey” sounds MUCH better than “Dan Gokey,” imo.
