Since Idol, third-place finisher Danny Gokey has gone country.
“I moved to Nashville the day the (Idols Live) tour was over,” says Gokey, 29. “It’s funny how life works out and how the pieces fall in the right place.”
Gokey’s debut album, My Best Days, was released March 2 on 19 Recordings/RCA Nashville and landed at No. 4 on Billboard’s album chart, selling 65,000 copies in its first week. Lead single My Best Days Are Ahead of Me was released to country radio in December and cracked the top 40. He’ll tour with Sugarland this spring and appeared on Idol last week.
It was his experience on Idol and a conversation with guest mentor Randy Travis that made the gospel singer consider Nashville as a career option.
