Oh my gosh I am the first to post here, Good Morning. I am doing the happy dance (not an easy feat for me) about Danny’s numbers.
Hi everyone.
Brian has Danny’s soundscan numbers and said that Danny sold over 65,000 albums:
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/idolchatter/post/2010/03/danny-gokeys-my-best-days-sells-65k-in-first-week/1
Danny is currently #30 on the mediabase chart and up 239 spins for the week.
I wanted to give y’all an update on my progress. The reason I go silent and MIA is because I am in either in PT, recovering from PT, asleep, or on my pain meds. My recovery is slower than I anticipated or wanted but it was not a result of the actual surgery. Seems the body has a wonderful way of compensating when there is an injury. My right knee was bad and my left leg took over throughout the years. Now my right leg is at 25% the strength of my left leg and I am waking us muscles that have literally atrophied over the years and it is very hard work and painful.
I a learning to walk again and to climb stairs and to even sit down and get up. Because of the pain, I am on pain meds (which I hate taking), and generally exhausted most of the time. I do read what you all are saying and I do vote and make a daily phone call to my radio stations and request and occasionally tweet here and there but that’s all I have right now.
I have to say that MBDs is my theme song right now. Every time I step into the pt gym, I put my ipod on and play his song. This really gets me through the hell of waking up my muscles. I wonder if it is possible to wear out a song on an ipod (I’ll let you know if this happens). Before my surgery, Danny DM’ed me and told me My Best Days were ahead of me and he was right. Getting there is the difficult part.
By the way, I originally purchased 10 cds of Danny (from various online outlets) and like the stores they are all gone. Everyone who listened wanted a copy and I obliged. I was thinking about restocking from Walmart but every time I go I only see a few in the racks and I don’t want to keep others from enjoying his music. I will wait till the next shipment comes in and buy a few at a time.
Well that is all for now, got to get up get away and start the day. Thank you all for the well wishes and I will keep you posted on my progress.
Hi everybody! Just read Brian’s article. It’s kind of odd that he is saying to Danny’s fans to have their hopes too high when it comes to the record sales from this time onwards..
All us Danny fans here at Iheart have had very realistic expectations of Danny’s album sales and I am really happy with the 65000+ copies for the first week. I do think that the sales could have been a bit bigger without the distribution problems, but people won’t forget Danny and will buy his album later.
I also think Brian missed out on few very important factors in his article, which make him stand out compared to many other artists. You all know what those factors are, so I won’t repeat them here. I’m just wondering if Brian is having to “hide” the fact that he likes Danny and doesn’t want to show it too much?
Danny’s star will shine brighter and brighter and there is no stopping him!
Have a lovely day Ihearties!
I did mean: which make DANNY stand out compared to many other artists.
Good Morning! I had to stop reading and post how happy I am for Danny’s debut sales too. I disagree with Brian Mansfield’s thoughts that Danny could struggle after this, I think that album has too much potential.
Connie, glad you are making progress. I know that surgery can be very challenging.
Another correction on my long comment.. I was referring to Brian saying that Danny’s fans should NOT have their hopes up too high.. Should proof read my comments, but too busy for that at the moment..
One thing Brian did not mention was the additional shipment of 128,000 cds to the stores. RCA would not have done that if they did not think that the cd would sell. I commented on Brian’s article that what the impressive debut numbers will do is make the non-exposed buyer stop and ask “what’s the buzz all about.’ If they buy the cd they will be hooked – it is a strong cd. As I mentioned earlier, every time I play the cd to a non fan, but a fan of country music, I end up giving it away.

Good Morning.
Hannele, I think you are right; I think Brian is trying to be “subjective” and not reveal his love of Danny!
He is trying to be the voice of reason.
He is correct I guess; first good week sales are no guarantee of success.
But we all know Danny will succeed!
Pam, I just don’t like it that in one sentence you give the good news and then in the next sentence it’s all doom and gloom.. It feels like we are not allowed to enjoy this moment, but should already start worrying what happens next. That article really got on my nerves..
Connie, great to hear that you are feeling better! Positive thinking is the way to speedy recovery, so keep on listening to Danny’s inspirational songs.
Twitter: mrbingfordannyg
I am just so confused right now.I mean after all the HDD speculation,US today data.So who has the finial data of Danny’s album.
I think that Brian said that Danny fans shouldn’t be getting their hopes up too high because he reads mjs and he probably saw that comment where someone predicted Danny would go gold in 2 to 3 months. I think that Brian cares about Danny and just doesn’t want people to apply unrealistic expectations to him.
FOGS, thank you for your comment, because I don’t read mjs and don’t have any idea what’s said in that forum.
Mr.Bing, good to see you here! Hope you are well and happy with Danny’s album sales.
I agree with Hannele Seems like every time Danny makes a step forward everyone starts worrying about the next step. (Kind of like watching our children grow.) But for now I think we should all be happy for his great start, continue to support, pray for, and buy his music, and savor this moment before we jump into worrying again. Danny has a great summer planned for him, and I see nothing but good things for his future!!!
Another thing that bothers me is how everyone says we should ignore all the haters and eventually they will go away. Then in the next breath somone is reporting a haters comment. I guess I just don’t get it, you can’t have it both ways. Either we ignore their nonsense, or we play into it, and they win!!
Twitter: mrbingfordannyg
Hannele, sure I am happy for Danny.Just dont get it which number of his album is Certification
Hi Grandmaster, I totally agree with you. I for one won’t let myself worry about Danny’s sales. Danny isn’t sitting and waiting things to happen, but is making the best out of each and every opportunity that he sees to further his career. That needs so much energy, being positive and believing in who you are as a person and an artist.
Mr Bing, I think we’ll have to wait for the exact figure, but I assume it’s in the 65000 – 67000 range? I suppose we just have to wait.. I have to leave soon so I won’t know the total amount until later today.
Twitter: mrbingfordannyg
The business is so complicated.Let’s see what will happen.
Goodmorning all!! hi Mr Bing, the final numbers for Danny’s album sales should be out today from soundscan I believe!! I agree with Hannele, I think we fans should have the right to bask in this moment of celebration with Danny!! Manfield may mean well in his intention to balance his reviews with reality but his timing was off; there will be plenty of opportunities for him to express objectivety as it relates to Danny’s career and longevity in the industry, this was not the time to open up fear since Danny fans have been working so hard to promote him. I believe Brian supports Danny but it is too bad that he has to conceal or reduce his fanguyling!! lol I realize he has to be objective but I wish he would for once just let danny fans relish in a celebratory moment!!
Twitter: steph6449
I think Brian was just trying to be cautious, as there are no guarantees what first-week sales mean in the longer range. Danny will need to keep working hard, keep increasing his support and airplay on country radio etc. But we know he will try very hard to do that.
Plus, I think I read someone on Brian’s blog called him a Danny fanboy, lol. Seemed to be a Kris or kradam fan who was disgruntled that Brian had put up dedicated posts about Danny more than once this week, while the “big” news of the few dates for Kris with Keith Urban weren’t announced with a huge fanfare, and when announced were mixed in with some other news. (Btw on that though, don’t recall Brian ever putting up a big post about Danny and the much larger Sugarland tour connection.)
Hi Latrece! Good to see you here. So you must have had a great time at the concert in Turner Hall. Saw one photo of you being next to Danny. You don’t miss the opportunity to get close to Danny whenever you have a chance to do so.
Twitter: karatemom34
Good Morning Everyone, So Happy to hear Danny’s album sales in his first week were 65,000 plus!! That is sooo Awesome Danny!!!! So glad he got to relax yesterday!! I haven’t done a recap from Saturday at Turner Hall, but I was with Toni and Jan and they do Wonderful recaps.
I will say this, that Danny and his band were absolutely Amazing(as you have all seen from videos) Danny’s voice was Phenomenal!!! He left everyone wanting more. What he did for Meaghan(DanielJGokeyFan) was so beautiful!! Everyone was so moved!! and to sign autographs for every single fan there (1000 people) was just Amazing. I did get to meet Danny again and take a pic with him! He is just as nice and sweet as he was the last time and makes every person feel important and special!! (So thankyou Danny for taking that pic w/me! Really appreciated it. I had a wonderful time with all the ihearts and met a new ihrt Cori. Cori you are such a sweet, wonderful person and I felt like I’ve known you forever!! (BTW/ Where are you? Lol) I met a lot of new and wonderful people from iheart and twitter. So those of you who haven’t had the opportunity yet to hear Danny perform and meet him yet , you won’t ever be disappointed when you do. I will post some pics soon or send them to Erika or Amy to post, I’m not very techy at that kind of stuff!!
Everyone have a Great Wednesday, be back soon!! luv ya Hugs
Have a great day everyone! I’m logging off and leaving work a bit earlier today.
Twitter: steph6449
I think Brian is reporting the actual number as 65K? Vs. the estimate at 67k-ish yesterday.
I was interested though in Danip’s comment that the majority of Christian retailers would not be visible at all in those figures. I have to think Danny has some sales in those types of stores.
If his sales weren’t as high this week as they might have been due to shortages of product in the stores, hope the additional albums shipped will allow for a better-than-typical second week’s sales. Danny seems to be getting a ton of good word of mouth from people who saw him on AI or have picked up his album.
I wish for once we could be completely optimistic without injecting fear and doom and gloom in Danny’s progress. I believe everyone here is intelligent enough to realize the Volatility of the industry and that there are no guarantees; I don’t think people need to be reminded over and over that there is a possibility that Danny could have a bad moment or not meet expectations.
Each progress Danny makes, it is coupled with a double dose of fear and minimal optimism supposely to help us poor irrational fans from unrealistic expectations; I guess only a few of us is able to be cautious and the rest of us have to be consistently reminded like children without rational thinking. Have a great everyone bye!
Twitter: steph6449
I saw that pic of Latrece up nice and close to Danny in the group photo also
So glad you were able to go, seems like it was a great experience for everyone even with the waiting in line.
Twitter: BLfolsom
OMGoodness, what great numbers. I agree with everyones conclusion here, Brian on one hand seemed to be happy and positive, then poured cold water on the sentiment. Maybe he was just trying to be cautious but jeez, let us have our moment please.
Just wanted to say thx to Steph (I think it was you) for posting those AI pics…whew, whoever took those has a good eye.
Have a good day, be back later.
Morning Ihearts,
I’m so happy for Danny and so proud. He has got to be so excited today. I know that Brian is trying to keep our expectations, for future weeks, in check, but Danny’s got something special. We all know it here. Everyone that sees Danny in concert or hears him on television knows it, so with more and more appearances he will grow in popularity.
I wonder when the exact number will come out?
Twitter: BLfolsom
Just a thought; does anybody know if Danny will make an appearace on Leno, Letterman, and any other late night guru?
I understand that he’ll be on Ellen, his story would be ripe for Oprah too.
Is the national TV PR machine running too? I like the live shows and love the Sugarland tour but just wanted to know if any of you had any inside info.
I believe we should all sit back and strap ourselves in, for the ride of a lifetime. That album has platinum written all over it, with at least four big hits in the making. It is only a matter of time.
Sure would be nice, Billie. Although, I don’t believe we have heard any confirmations as of yet.
Dare I add this comment to my prior post… I don’t think MBD is nearly the best song on that album. In fact, I’d rate it in fourth place, out of the four big hits.
Billie,
I wish that we had confirmed dates for Danny’s appearances on the major shows. I would think that the Ellen show would be first, but with the Sugarland tour about to start I wonder if it will be delayed for a while.
Suppose I should clarify. I think the following songs could be huge hits for Danny, based on their general appeal and country flavor:
Get Away
Will Not Say Goodbye
Crazy Not To
(MBD)
Tiny Life
FYI MJ has up a thread about Danny’s first week sales.
Hi Maryann,
When the next single comes out, IWNSG, that should help boost the album sales, I would think. That’s an amazing song. Even the DJ’s made statements about how powerful that song is. I think that MBD was a good song to debut the album, it’s so positive and encouraging, but IWNSG will tug at everyone’s heart.
Good morning everyone!
I’m doing the happy dance right now because Danny exceeded the HDD sales projction. Re Mansfiled’s article, I believe he supports and beilives in Danny. I happen to like his article because it made me realize that Danny still has a lot of work to do and his fans should not become complacent in supporting him and getting the word out about his album. I believe that Danny will have a strong career in the music industry because of his ability to focus on his goals and his fearless yet endearing ability to promote himself and I admire him for that.
Real life is calling, BBL.
Twitter: steph6449
not sure who was posting late this morning about the Froggy private event in California 3/19. it seemed to me that for that, the radio station was controlling the tix.
but would the college concert that evening be near you? that would probably be a longer show and bigger venue. (Expressions, posted in the events here–their website had a place to print tickets in advance)
I didn’t think Brian Mansfield was at all negative. He was a sounding board – trying to keep things in perspective. Danny is off to a great start – and I could not be more happy for him – but the hard work continues. That means continuing the due diligence of voting on GAC, CMT, posting comments on ITunes, Amazon, etc.
But I do think the comment in MJ that Danny will go gold in 2-3 mos – is overly optimistic. I don’t want to set him up for a fall. Even though I do think Danny will hold his own and keep his record label happy so that he can go on and record his 2nd album.
I think the point being Why can’t we bask in the numbers for at lesst one full week, without imagining what MIGHT, COULD, or WILL happen?
Grandmaster,
Yes, we can bask without the doubts. I’m just going to ignore them and enjoy the exciting news for Danny today.
Let Us all Bask in the Joy together. I’m basking as we speak….Ha
Grandmaster I believe some people function off of the element of fear to keep them motivated while others like us know how to rejoyce in the moment and relenguish doubt for a moment. I am motivated by reality and progress, not fear and doubt!! there are some who feel it is necessary to maintain a consistent dose of doubt to keep them in check or else they will become too Satisfied. I think it depends on what angle you come from in terms of motivation. I realize we need perspective and balance, but when is it ok to have pure optimism? I guess never!!
Basking sounds great, VC!
Another beautiful day here in PA. I could get used to Spring. Feels like all is well with the world. It is bright, sunny and near 60 degrees. The trees are budding and the flowers are peeking through. Like the world is waking up.
Feeling the same way about Danny. The sleeping giant has woke up and is tearing up the charts and roaming the airwaves. Love it
Latrece & Girls, Enjoyed reading all of your recaps, and seeing your lovely faces in your photos. So glad you all got to celebrate that moment together.
Off to do my walking. BBL
Maryann I love the way you straddle the fence of being manic and delusional at times!! lol you are a Gem! I need some of what you got right about now!! lol
Maryann it was pure pleasure to see and hear Danny in person, I really enjoyed the concert so much, and yes I was able to get a little close to sweet Danny!!
I guess my perspective on life changed 7 years ago when my husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer.. First he had re-checks every 3, 6 12 months, then after 4 years it was down to once a year. We lived in fear before every check-up, now every time he gets a clean bill of health, we enjoy every minute, realizing it could change at any moment, and nothing we say or do will change that.
Cover article on Lady Antebellum in today’s issue of USA TODAY, with this small insert of what they had to say about Danny/It’s Only:
“When I sent that over to a friend of mine at Sony, she immediately thought of Danny Gokey, Charles Kelly says. He sings his butt off on it. We’ve gotten to know him since then and he’s such a nice guy, got a great story”
If this has already been posted, Erika or Amy, please just delete this. Another very busy week and I don’t have time right now to skim through all the messages from today. In a way it will be good to get back home next week so I can get back to normal again!
Don’t know if there are any old (or new!) country music fans on here but Josh Turner is coming to the Pabst Theatre in Milwaukee in April: http://presalepasswordticketcode.com/josh-turner-at-the-pabst-theater-in-milwaukee-wi-presale-code/
We saw him last night at the Strawberry Festival here in Florida and he put on a great show to a sold out crowd. Hubby and I both enjoyed it. Just sayin’.
BBL…..
Latrece… Don’t say I didn’t warn ya
!
Hey (since the issue of my sanity has already been discussed), how did he smell?
Laughing myself silly. How dare I ask that question?
Grandmaster,
I’m sorry that you and your husband have had to go through such a difficult time. I see what you mean about having your perspective changed. It is just a reminder that we should all appreciate the time we have with our loved ones because at any moment life can change in a blink of an eye. Thanks for sharing that with us.
Danny is excited about the news today. He just tweeted.
dannygokey
Thanx everyone 4 making this an incredible day~My album had an amazing debut on the charts this week. Check out the info- http://fwd4.me/32m
Yay Yay Yay such great news!!!

Btw, I did get tickets when he comes to FL. Yay again!!
Maryann, his best single has yet to come! When people get a chance to hear him, they are going to love him!
I agree Dee, IWNSG will be an amazing new single for Danny. I wonder when it will be released as a single? I don’t know how long it usually takes for one single to come out after the other. But I hope that it’s soon.
I totally agree with Maryann’s post at 10:48:
“The sleeping giant has woke up and is tearing up the charts and roaming the airwaves. Love it.”
It makes me want to say: Watch out, music world. Here comes Danny!!!
Maryann just for you Danny smelled delicious!! of course I have not come down off of cloud nine yet!! I still have another picture that may be posted with me and Danny smiling and cheesing together even more!! LOL
Thanks for dragging that here, VC. He must be overjoyed!
The best part about all of this, is that those numbers grant him the credibility to go forward. Nobody can deny those numbers. Not even the haters.
I am with you Grandmaster. I’ve lived through a similar situation with my husband, at a time when things were not going so well for us. Life is too short to waste on nonsense. It taught me a lot about what is truly important to me, and tolerance.
Enjoy your husband. So glad he is doing well.
Ooooo! Cannot wait, Latrece. Just had to ask you.
He is such a doll.
Nina,
Not sure where I first heard Danny referred to as ‘the sleeping giant’. Maybe, it was from Helio. Always thought, yep! I knew this would happen.
Brian Mansfield mentioned in his article that he believes that RCA will have a press release today with the specifics. I wonder how we can see that press release.
I would have loved to have seen Danny’s face when he was told the news of his album sales today.
Does anyone have the billboard link that shows the chart with Danny at this week’s highest chart entry by a debut artist, landing at #3 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and #4 on the all-genre Billboard 200?
VC,
Expect to find it here: http://www.sonymusicnashville.com/artists/details.cfm?artistid=1000045 and also, under their total artist press release page (under home section).
So exciting! Hope this means my country station will FINALLY begin playing MBD.
I have pulled up the Billboard site but I can’t find the exact charts.
http://www.sonymusicnashville.com/
Thanks Maryann, I was looking for that link too.
Have to keep things short as I am at work. That’s really incredible about Danny’s sales numbers. Imagine how much more he would have sold if more had been shipped! I have no doubt he’ll go gold, then platinum. Who knows, he may even be nominated or win for Best New Artist at the CMAs or even a Grammy in country!
Maryann–
I think it was me who compared Danny to a sleeping giant, but I got it from somewhere else, I think.
You might also be interested to know, Maryann, on the season 8 thread at DCO most of those doubters who ignored Danny/didn’t think he would sell are now buzzing about him and one said she’s eating her words that Danny wouldn’t be successful because my prediction way back then was correct. They don’t seem to hate him, but are rather astounded at how successful he is proving himself to be. Thought you’d like to know that. Go read the posts on the thread if you like.
KEEP VOTING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am unable to cut and paste here at work, but DANNY HAS THE HIGHEST FIRST WEEK SALES OF ANY NEW COUNTRY ARTIST IN 18 YEARS! Billy Ray Cyrus was the last one, in 1992. Unbelievable.
Hi Everyone….I’m here Cindy. Needed to get my thoughts together. Here is a mini-recap of my time with you all on Sat. So much good stuff has already been shared, I thought I’d add a few lines myself.
My day started with arriving at Turner Hall at around 8:30 am. Toni and Jan were already there. Was so nice meeting them along with so many other ihearts: Cindy, Latrece, Kristie, Pam, and Jason (and I apologize if I have left anyone out). The weather went from cold to warmer (when sun came our way) to back to cold. I finally went inside later in afternoon (and found a heater between the outer doors to lean up against for awhile)!! lol Went back to the others in line and found out I missed buying the CD, as it was being sold outside so you’d have it for entrance into the Hall. I panicked a little and started racing to catch up with the group selling them. I then had a chance to see just how long the line was!! WOW.
Finally a little after 5:30 the doors opened and we were able to enter. Because we were at the front of the line, I along with Jan, Latrece and Cindy were able to be right up front. I was able to be in the first row. Thought maybe the music would be too loud because we were on the left side of the stage by a speaker, but it wasn’t at all. Have never been that close to a performer in my life. Even got to shake Danny’s hand during one of the songs!!
The concert ended leaving me wanting more. Danny is the ultimate performer and his music was even more incredible listening live in concert. Adds a whole new dimension. He is so kind as well – so special when he sang to Meghan.
Afterwards I waited in a very long line, along with Cindy and Latrece, for CD autograph. Didn’t get much time with him, but did tell him who I was and gave him a mini-hug to which he said “thanks sweetheart”. Cute!!
Latrece and Cindy went for food so I stayed to visit with Kristy, Jan and Toni who were now in line. As the line moved closer I have to admit I got caught up in the moment, and thought perhaps I could see Danny once more as I had brought my Country Weekly mag. along. But management only wanted CDs signed. I could see their point. I would have been so tired if I had been Danny….(and had writer’s cramp too!) Of course I have to remember he is a very young man and full of energy! Afterwards, husband picked me up around 10:30 or so.
Needless to say, I was exhausted when I returned home, but had a wonderful time seeing Danny live and meeting so many of you. I did feel sad not to have any sort of picture taken with him.
But hopefully will have another chance sometime. I too have some pictures and video to get to Erika and Amy to post.
Hope you all are having a great day!!

Checking in from work:
Grandmaster, you asked an interesting question on ignoring hate vs reporting it.
My viewpoint is that when I say to ignore hate I see “ignoring” from the angle of not letting it upset us or get us down or think it will affect Danny’s success.
But people mention the hate because addressing it helps Danny (as well as being therapeutic for some members here), which for many is more important than our own comfort zone.
Danny himself does not want us to IGNORE it; otherwise he wouldn’t be asking us to go to ITunes and vote down the haters comments. He is acutely aware of it. And every time we speak positively about him someone may change their mind. Positive conversation begets positive feelings. That is one reason the hate has died down on the internet; from loyal Danny fans speaking up on his behalf.
I also think it is ok to be realistic; that is not being pessimistic. We have all different types of people on this site which is so great; some are more emotional; and some are more pragmatic. It all makes the world go round and one is not better than the other.
Sometimes, being too optimistic can hurt- to wit- complacent Danny fans not voting enough in the top 3, thinking he was golden (but it all worked out didn’t it
)
So we should all enjoy this great day; but as Dee said KEEP VOTING!
Hi I-hearties, I am very happy for Danny. I am sure the strong debut numbers have caught the attention of the peeps in the Country Music industry, and that will definitely help his future career.
Short term wise I think that will result in more Country radio stations adding his songs and playing his singles more, on the assumption that most radio stations need to stay current to attract audience, and Danny being the new country artist whose debut album sold the most first week since 1992 is a milestone in country charts and that will certainly help radio stations who were kinda on the fence before the album dropped to start taking Danny’s album seriously.
I’ve been following Danny news for a while and I have a feeling that the Records Label has been really supportive, and Danny also got a lot of supports from peeps in the Country Music Industry – Danny was invited to appear at the Opry before he had a hit single and before his album dropped, that shows big confidence and lots of good will, that of course comes with certain expectations, and I am so happy that Danny delivers.
Since we seem to be discussing future singles . . .
Assuming that there are four cuts from the album (as was the case for Darius Rucker), here are my picks:
(1) “My Best Days”
(2) “I Will Not Say Goodbye”
(3) “Get Away”
(4) “Crazy Not Too” OR “Life On Ya”
Caveat: At first, I thought “Life On Ya” should be a single, rather than “Get Away.” (I was worried whether “Get Away” sounded country enough, but I think the beat will pull in a lot of folks, especially male fans.) And maybe “Life On Ya” should substitute for “Crazy Not To.” To me, “Life On Ya” has the most country sound. I’m thinking of the country songs that I hear on the radio, and trying to figure out which songs will fit in the best. Those are my picks. As for the order in which the songs should be released, I think that should depend on what other songs are in the country radio pipeline at the time of release.
BTW, none of the songs I’ve picked as singles are my favorites. Those remain a tie between “Be Somebody” and “I Still Believe.”
Ellen, Be Somebody is one of my favorites too.
I still haven’t found the exact billboard charts link that has Danny on the #3 and #4 list. I guess I just can’t navigate my way to it from the Billboards site.
Not sure if this has been posted from DGO:
http://www.dannygokey.com/news/danny-makes-chart-history-debut-album:
“The soaring success of My Best Days includes a sizzling digital album tally in excess of 19,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan, earning Danny a #1 berth in chart history with the best first-week digital album sales ever recorded by a debut country act.”
Another milestone for Danny. YAY!!!
Twitter: BLfolsom
VC, you gave me a chuckle *bask, bask, and bask*
Pjgvet, you brought up some very good points. I’ve been pretty much ignoring all the hate comments, but…now when I come across one, I’ll counter it with a positive factual comment – hopefully, I’ll have my facts straight. Or…….I could just verbally punch them in the face, nothing says “I love you and God Bless” like a good smack down; don’t you agree?
No seriously, I’ll try to be as positive as Danny is – it’ll be hard.
As for the Brian Mansfield article, I think he is correct to inject a sober note. Yes, I had the same visceral reaction as other folks. We’re happy, we’re reading about Danny’s good numbers, and then wham! It felt a bit like a gut punch. But Mansfield is still correct that there is more work for Danny (and us) ahead. Danny has proven that he is a force to be reckoned with. Now he has to prove he has staying power. I’m confident that Danny can do that. But the last thing that Danny needs is fans who are overconfident or complacent. He isn’t out of the woods yet, but I feel sure that with time he will find the right path and emerge into the sunshine.
Billie, That’s funny. It seems a bit passive-aggressive but if that cyber “punch in the face-Love Ya and God Bless Ya” works for you and brings you satisfaction, I say, “Go For It” Ha…. I’ll cheer you on.
Twitter: pjgvet
Billie, lol! I won’t ever mess with you
Ellen- My list of singles is the same as yours; except I am on the fence about my favorite, Crazy Not To vs Life on Ya.
Maybe Life on Ya, since it is very quintessentially country and Crazy Not To almost sounds more light rock than country.
But Crazy is my favorite!
Nina, I saw that, another great record!
Franktastic (are you a guy BTW?) I agree; I sense that Nashville is very supportive of Danny in general. I also think Brian Mansfield is very supportive too; its just that he is a journalist vs a fangirly blogger and also cares too much about Danny to put high expectations. One of the reasons everyone is so thrilled with his sales this week and he is getting attention for it is that many didn’t EXPECT him to do that. Thus, he doesn’t want to place too many expectations on Danny (and avoid getting labeled a fangirl, lol like someone did the other day as Steph noted. That made me laugh).
Pessimism dominates reality here; Is it unrealistic to assume Danny is going to do good? I don’t think so! every prediction of Danny’s progress that has come from members here have been way below average and that is doubt and pessimism, not realism! it is true there is diversity here, so that means some of us can learn to view opinions from another’s perspective rather than maintaining a tunnel vision. Each projection of Danny’s progress has consistently been vocalized with a constant sense of “I am scared about Danny’s sales” or “I am scared about something else” some people are driven by fear and that is not healthy. I don’t buy the notion that you have to worry about everything in order to be realisic. each time someone expresses optimism, then you are labeled too optimistic or unrealistic, it’s a shame.
I believe it is ok to be optimistic and realistic at the same time without always verbalizing below level expectations and predicting way below average expectations. I could accept average/moderate expectations or a possible slight above average expectations but consistent complete below expectations/predictions of Danny’s progress, no way that is considered pragmatism. However, each adult choose to see the world half full or half empty!! have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone! i’m so so happy for Danny!!!!
Jan and Toni already wrote a comment on the post but thank u so much for those amazing recaps! Really liked the details love when i can “live” the recap as i was there lol
rowansmom, wow that’s awesome his career is doing so so good!!
Cori, thank u for that mini recap as you called it lol sorry for not having a picture with him but you had an amazing experience right?
Sometime soon you might have a picture with him!
going to read the posts be right back
Hi Pam, yes I am a guy, have been following Danny since he’s Top 8 on AI S8, long time lurker before posting here. Disclaimer – I absolutely do not mind the fangirly comments on Danny’s physical attributes from the ladies here on I-heart.
Latrece WELL SAID AMEN

I am so thrilled about Danny’s 65,000 accomplishment! All of his hard work paid off! there is still more hard work to be done by Danny, his label, his PR people and his fans, but I do believe Danny is going to have a hugely successful career. bottom line is Danny exceeded expectations and I think he will continue to do so.
Hey! I’m so excited about MBD charting very well this week. 65k sales is awesome!!! Congrats to Mr. Gokey
About ignoring the hate vs. not-to-ignore it, I’ll put my “two cents” in on that. You don’t have to agree w/it or not, but it just how I see it. Honestly, I choose to ignore it b/c there really isn’t any need for me to get so worked up, like I have before, over something that some “stuck-on-stupid” person says about Danny. I don’t know about Danny himself wanting us not to ignore it, but I believe that he wouldn’t want his fans to dwell over it either. I just think that the extremely awesome news that’s going on right now is something that us “Danny fans” should dwell over b/c it’s what most important to him and to us. I really could care less about what non-fans of his says or the dumba$$e$ over at mj’s, EW, Jim C(ugh), or whoever else have to say about his success right now. It’s just bitter people that are jealous b/c their favorites aren’t getting as much attention like they had a couple of months ago. for that, I say, “Oh well…” and move on…
So let the “ever-so-brillant-boring-stuck-on-stupid” haters hate away. They only fall on death ears to me.
I am glad that my use of the word bask, in relating to enjoying Danny’s success, has caused some good laughs.. However, I wonder how different we are then some haters, who ridicule or make fun of Danny for something he says or does?
That being said, my love and admiration for Danny will never change. I’ve always got his back 100% and I don’t need to prove to some non-fan why I feel that way. That’s all I’m saying about it

Frank, welcome!
We are so happy for more testosterone here!
And we welcome all viewpoints here; despite how it may seem today; as you can tell, some of us get quite passionate about Danny. But as long as everyone is respectful of other people’s opinions, its all good. So we welcome your male perspective, that’s great!
And I am so happy to hear you don’t mind our fangirling; we can’t help it
Grandmaster-People who make fun of Danny for every little thing that he does that they find “funny”or are “offended” by it are annoying. Don’t know how else to put it. That’s just how I see it.
Twitter: BLfolsom
Just got back from my local Target – they are sold out of MBD’s. I’ll go to Walmart to see if I can find it, told a workout buddy that I’d buy it for her – we’ll see if it’s there.
Twitter: kiady
Billie, fingers crossed!
ITA with pjgvet about the haters.
Also, I am glad to see that Danny sold 28,000 copies of “My Best Days”, that is great.
And congrats on Danny selling over 19,000 digital albums and for having the best first week digital album sales for country artists..
In my last post I meant to write that I am glad that Danny sold 28,000 copies of his single “My Best Days”.

I think that it’s a strength for us as a group that we have people with different personality types and backgrounds. It can cause some occasional little misunderstandings perhaps, but it makes us stronger as a group. We all love and support Danny, although we demonstrate it in different ways. That’s ok, it’s actually a good thing.
The subject of how to deal with haters is one that comes up regularly because people have very strong feelings about it. There is not one right answer. I absolutely understand why some don’t want to be exposed to it, and that is the best answer for them as they show their love and support for Danny.
For me personally, I feel that addressing it head on without becoming a hater myself is a way that I have been able to contribute and help Danny. My personality type is such that I can generally remain calm even when I feel very strongly about something, and so this has been a good “fit” for me so to speak as a role on Team Danny to make a difference for him.
There so many other great things that we as fans do for him to varying degrees, like power voting and buying his music and sending him messages to try to lift him up and writing nice things about him all over the internet. They’re all so important. One “fan task” I haven’t gotten to do yet is watch him sing live and cheer him on in person – wish I could have been there with you waiting in the cold to do that! I can imagine how much that means to him.
Danielle,
I’m with ya girl.
“So let the “ever-so-brillant-boring-stuck-on-stupid” haters hate away. They only fall on death ears to me.”

There are 327 people online at Danny’s site in the middle of the afternoon on a Wed.
Right before I left work there were 400+
Billie,
They are out again, or have they not restocked the second shipment, I wonder. That’s good news anyway. I hope that the stores received more than just 8 or so cds this time.
I also am going to be purchasing another cd or two for my cousin.
I agree Josie. And addressing the hate especially at other sites, where has received a lot of it, has actually helped diminish quite a bit of the hate he’s gotten.
Whe people at other sites see that there are Danny fans standing up for him and addressing the hate, it causes them to back down and sometimes examine the stuff they are saying about him. And there are some lurkers who are Danny fans at sites like mjs and TWOP who now feel more comfortable posting about him, because of the support that he’s gotten.
I don’t see anything wrong with some people discussing the hate here especially when we are not really “allowed” to discuss it on places like mjs and TWOP.
Twitter: pjgvet
Josie, your ability to calmly and rationally debunk nonsense hate is impressive and should be a lesson to us all! I really appreciate your efforts on Danny’s behalf
I can’t believe you haven’t met him yet; you so deserve a big bear hug from him.
And I agree 100%; people react to things differently ; there is no “one right way” to feel or react to something. It is indeed what makes life interesting. As adults, we should have the ability to state how we feel; yet respect those others that may feel differently than we do.
Since I bought extras CD…put one in my husband’s truck. One of his favorites so far is “Life On Ya.”(not sure if he has heard all the songs yet)
I like them all…”surprise” I guess I really like “Somebody” and my little guy agrees with me.(makes us bop our heads)
But also like, “Still Believe” – nice crossover – I buy mostly CCM, not surprise this is doing well… two groups merging.
If Only – so beautiful and sentimental – a pretty song, this is my little guy’s next favorite, for some reason this is the song he sings.
Get Away, love, love, sassy, nice beats. Reminds me little of Jason Aldean song, but his is more rockish, “She’s Country.”
Danny could sing more rockish, hard beat country with more rasp…that’s me.
Crazy Not to – alright for me. Very pretty arrangement.
Like that’s a Bad thing – I like it fine…not sure what to make of it.
I Will Not Say Goodbye – nice, good use of vocals, kinda slow and too sad.
Tiny Life – just too many words, not enough of a flow for me.
Truth be told, My Best Days is one of my least favorites….go figure
Next single – Life on Ya, Get Away, or Crazy Not To – appeal to a wider audience.
Danny has a little of everyhing which seems to be working. It would be hard to buy just a few songs, need the whole album!!!
I think maybe its depends on your state of mind, I wanna have some fun, those appeal more to me.
Get lost, b-bop that head.
ihearties – Let’s celebrate our different gifts. We are all working parts to make a whole lot of promoting Dannyboy!
Twitter: pjgvet
I didn’t mean to leave anyone out who ventures out to defend Danny and attempt to change minds……..you all know who you are
And excellent point Josie; fans do all different things for Danny-everyone doesn’t have to do the same thing;
purchasing CDS, calling radio stations, seeing him in concerts, etc, etc. its all good!
FOGS, if anyone needs proof of the power of posting positively and rationally against hate; they need only read the first 6 months of TWOP; compared to when you took over- and look at it now.
Danny’s album was #15 on the overall albums chart on Itunes this morning but has moved up one spot to #14. I think that it’s good that he is still in the top 20 albums on Itunes and that he hasn’t fallen off of the album chart yet.
Twitter: JosieInSeattle
Pam, the next time you see him, please give him an extra hug from me. I know, it’s so wrong of me to burden you with extra work like that, but perhaps you will make the sacrifice for a fellow fan.
Danny’s family members are so proud of Danny today. His cousin sent this tweet.

I’m not surprised your hubbie likes Life On Ya the most- he is very “country” is he not?
I think it would make a great country single.
I love all Danny’s songs because there is something for every mood.
The Coach is really a great song too; very catch chorus (you would like it-double meaning to who the Coach is).
It was smart to have it as a bonus song on ITunes, but sad not everyone gets it on their CD.
Franktastic, so you’re a guy. I couldn’t tell, not sure what I meant by that. Great!! Always welcome your perspective.
I asked this earlier but does anyone have the direct link to the Billboard charts that show Danny at #3 and #4? I can pull up the billboard link but I have been able to navigate my way to the charts showing Danny.
A tweet from Phil Stacy:
PhilStacey
Congrats @dannygokey on your high chart debut! Awesome man…
Pam, not surprised about my husband’s choice, either. Although he is country, mancrush on Alan Jackson. He thought the album was a little too diverse. But, if it wasn’t I probably wouldn’t like it as much. It will be interesting what he thinks when we see him live. I can’t wait. Brad Paisley played there back in the day as with every other country singer paying his dues.
Twitter: pjgvet
Dee, have you seen Danny live yet?
I will be really interested to hear your hubbies take on Danny live; he is certainly a representative of more hard core country, it sounds like.
I don’t have the “Coach” song.
I still cannot get my computer to update the newer version of itunes. Real sad about that!! I can relate to BETTY…but I have people with no computer skills! I will have to get some computer guy over here before long….driving me crazy!
As far as itune to rate, I can’t get past that money payment requirement. I have tried so many times! At least, Claudia was successful.
Pam, I did go to the AI concert. But, remember he wasn’t feel good, probably wasn’t his best. I was in the nosebleed section, everything was distorted.
All in all, I need a do over.
I hope he stays out of the sun this time.

Dee, I sent you a DM
Twitter: pjgvet
Dee, I wasn’t following you and you must not be following me-can’t send you a DM. That’s weird, I was following you before; twitter does strange things.
Anyway, follow me if you want; I was going to send you a DM re iTunes/Coach.
Pam,I just sent you a DM…were you mad and unfollowed me. lol
Twitter: pjgvet
No Dee! I have NO idea how that happened! LOL!
Pam, I haven’t been political, just secretly doing my thing!! lol
Twitter: pjgvet
Oh, wait- did you know there was also a Heart Treasures Outlet! That is the one I went to..l Duhhhh.
Pam, just twitterweird doing its own thing!
I didn’t mean to sound too “witchy” about the hater stuff. Just needed to be said how I felt about it. I do respect everyone else who feels differently about it, though. I just choose to take a different path when it comes to that. I think the last time that I commented on a negative/hater review(EW) was when “top-notch” journalist Whitney wrote that hypocritical article on MBD a while back. I was in a bad mood that day and had to say something about it b/c at that point I was just about done w/it. Hadn’t been back since.
Other than that, it”s all good that there’s a lot of diversity here and I really appreciate that
Twitter: kiady
Dee,
on the payment requirement it doesn’t show “none” as an option? if not you have to go to
Itunes Store then
Click on App store – right below the rectangle where it shows what’s playing
Then you have Top Charts at the right side of the page scroll down until you see Free App right below the Top Chart, you have 10 Free App choose one, it will appear a window asking your account then you click on create account this way when u get to the payment part you will have “none” as an option!
Pam, why don’t you use my twitter on this page…right there after Dee?
OK.. Claudia…if you say so! I will give another try!! I’m coming after you if it doesn’t work…
(I’m using your instructions on the smilies, I can follow a little)
Claudia, I keep forgetting to tell you, I bought a ball to put hammy in. He loves rolling all over the house. It is so funny, a new life for the hammy indeed! My son built a lego house for him, too! That is one spoiled ball of fur.
Well, I’m go work out in a few. Be back on later. Deuces <3
Pam, thanks so much!
Here is a nice brief article from Billboard mentioning Danny’s impressive first week of album sales. They also say that Danny’s single will debut at #63 on the digital songs chart this week:

There is a place where we can comment on this article.
Twitter: JosieInSeattle
Dee, does he still try to bite you when you pick him up, or has he gotten used to you now?
FOGS,
Thanks for the link. I wonder if the Opry show will be televised or is it just going to be on Sirius XM satellite radio?
Do you see the charts for the Billboards with Danny’s 3rd and 4th place ranking on them?
VickieCarol
The Billboard Charts with Danny’s rankings should come out tomorrow before noon. Billboard updates their charts every Thursday.
Also I think that Danny’s performance on the Opry will just be on the radio and not televised. Maybe we can find the same link we used last time to listen to him. I wonder if he will sing more songs this time around and maybe some different songs.

Dee,
lol it worked for me please don’t hurt me if it doesn’t work for you haha i’m addicted to smiles i have to apologize to you all because sometimes it’s unconscious lol and i put like 5 smiles in a post with 6 sentences haha
About the ball i have one already, it’s so funny when he runs/walks inside of it haha but sometimes i have to look for him because i stop listening to the ball running then i realize he’s stuck stuck under the furniture lol
just rate the album again!
Pam,
sorry i’m asking your help again! you said if we close Itunes we can rate and review again but seems like i’m just able to rate again not comment, when i click on review appears the one i already made and it just allows me to Edit it. It’s the right way to review again or it’s different from what you do? thanks!
I just read the Rolling Stone article on the home page. I haven’t ventured over to MJ’s yet but I would expect Kris fans are pretty upset about the article where it says that Danny has the 2d highest chart debut behind Adam. They mention the difference in sales between Danny and Adam but then go on to say that Kris debuted at #11 and Allison at #35 but don’t say Kris numbers so it looks like Danny outsold Kris. Kris fans can’t be happy about that.
All this news is so amazing but…Danny seems so far away now.
I’ve seen some griping by Kris and Allison fans, but Danny isn’t in the same genre they are, so there really isn’t a comparison…right?
Thanks FOGS, I have been looking for those charts all day, I’m such a GOOF!
That would be great if he could sing at least half of his album. I know, that’s wishful thinking.
Twitter: kiady
wow a whole post without a smile!! i’m shocked LOL
Dee,
then let me know if you were able to create the account! i’ll check the posts tomorrow
Pam,
i really appreciate if you can help me with the review issue thank you!!
i’m going to bed, have a good rest of day everyone!
i’m so happy for him! bye!
Danny rocks
I want to briefly mention two things on the album that really stand out to me. There are many, but I have to mention these–
–The Gokey growls during the bridge on I Still Believe. Dang, his voice is sexy when he does that.
–The way his voice soars into the stratosphere after the last verse on Tiny Life (“sweet tears of joy and laughter”)–this gives me goosebumps all over.
There is a comparison because the Rolling Stone article is talking about Danny having the 2d highest chart debut by an American Idol Season 8 contestant. It is an accurate statement because Adam debuted at #2 and Danny at #3 on Billboard and Kris was #11 and Allison #35, but the article leaves out the fact that Kris sold more albums than Danny. I believe this article was writtetn to make the winner look bad. They did the same thing when Adam debuted at #2 and Kris at #11. You notice how they point out how much more Adam sold than Danny because they want to make that point clear but conveniently leave out that Kris sold more than Danny.
Good Night Claudia~~~~
Twitter: kiady
Vickie, thank you, good evening to you lol
bye *
Lizzy
I just went and looked for that article from Rolling stone after you mentioned it. I don’t think that article has been posted on mjs yet.
Here is the link to the article for anyone else that wants to read it.
http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2010/03/10/on-the-charts-lady-antebellum-retake-number-one-from-sade/
Also, I am happy to see that Danny’s album is holding the #14 spot overall and #3 spot in country and his single is still in the top 10 in country songs. I was worried that his album and single would drop like a rock. We don’t want that to happen because it is important for Danny NOT to have a huge percentage drop in sales. When that happens, people start thinking that it was only his AI fanbase that bought his album and that country music fans are not interested in it.
Twitter: JosieInSeattle
By the time I got to mj’s this morning, she had already threatend to close the thread and had deleted a bunch of posts, so I don’t know what in the heck was going on. I suspect it was probably Adam and Kris stuff mainly though, if it was Danny related there would probably be a comment about it here. I’ll go back over there in a little while, but so far it doesn’t seem bad at all. Even people who have said awful things in the past are saying congrats, which is really nice to see
Pam, I finally got a chance to do comments on the Billboard singles listing and I saw Randy had been busy. Very nice!
I meant to say that his album is still holding well on Itunes.
Also, it is very important that we keep Danny’s video in the top 20 countdown on GAC and CMT and keep requesting his song from radio. Danny has had a great start but we haven’t to work hard to keep the momentum going.
Josie, are you absolutely sure you can’t get to Portland on March 17th? I have tickets. It makes me sad to know that you still haven’t heard Danny live, yet you do so much for him.
I saw that someone did just post that article on mjs.
Also rowansmom
Are the Allison and Kris fans complaining about Danny’s sales on IDF?
FOGS,–
Only one or two haters made any comments at all–it seems they are mostly trying to ignore it.
Now that Danny has proven every prediction wrong (except that he wouldn’t win), all that anyone can say anymore is that America has no taste and the album sucks. I’ve seen a few like that, and maybe he’s not everyone’s taste, but comments like that just seem bitter to me and transparent. If I dislike someone, I don’t even waste my time posting anything about them–so I think the fact some hate-tards STILL must make negative remarks means they are obsessed and very resistant. Bitterness and envy only breeds more bitterness. It does no one any favors.
Lizzy
I think that I read somewhere that a lot of new artists do normally have a large drop the second week their album is out. I think that sometimes a 50% drop in sales or more.
I don’t know how big of a drop Danny is going to get, but I am also glad to see his album ranked #14 on Itunes. I was also afraid that his album would slip quickly down the charts, but I am glad to see it’s still holding onto a spot in the Top 20.
Maybe some of the good buzz around it, will help it sell more. Also I think that RCA should have at least another national promo gig lined up within the next couple of weeks if possible.
And build upon the good buzz and good momentum of the album. I remember hearing the rumors that Danny was supposed to be on GMA this week but now it’s a later date. Maybe in the next couple of weeks he can get on at least one national show like Regis and Kelly, GMA etc,….
More national promotion could definitely get Danny more sales.
Twitter: JosieInSeattle
Ellen, that is so sweet of you, thank you! If I didn’t already have a commitment to go out of town to see our best friends (various birthday events) I would be down there like a shot. I would love to meet you, and I think that will happen one day. And of course I’d love to see Danny perform live one day, and that will happen too. I am looking forward to it.
Give him an extra hug from me if you get a chance. He might be vaguely aware that there is some woman named Josie who writes about him all the time!
And thanks again, I know you will have a fantastic time and I’ll love hearing about it.
Dee, I really enjoyed your post where you analyze the songs on Danny’s CD and explain which ones you you like.
I know why “Be Somebody” and “I Still Believe” are my favorites: I automatically start singing right along with Danny! They aren’t songs that show off Danny’s vocal range the best, but they are infectious! I love the tone of Danny’s voice when he sings “I don’t think so” in the opening bars of “Crazy Not To,” but I’m not sure the song is strong enough to be a hit on country radio. I think “Life On Ya” might be a better bet.
Do you think “Get Away” could work on country radio? It’s not especially easy to sing, but the beat stays in your head, and the song makes me want to jump up and dance.
JOSIE, under no circumstances do I pick up any fur ball animals. Only my son handles him, he always wears gloves.
Btw, I made a comment after you on Billboard..the nerve of some people.
Dee, when and where are you going to see Danny?
Ellen, so understand you…I think “Get Away” could work.
“Life on Ya” would appeal more to country folks.
When I think about the songs I like most, the vocals aren’t always the best around, I enjoy the heart of the song. The simple songs are some of the most catchiest ones.
Lizzy, I thought Danny debuted at #4, not #3. Did I miss something?
Twitter: jannworth
good afternoon all ihearties! What a glorious Gokey Day! Danny exceed sales expectations by more than 30% That’s something to celebrate!
Thanks for the comments on Toni and my recaps–yes, we suffered terribly by being close enough to touch Danny’s hand while he sang Saturday night–NOT! And getting to have a pic with him in the restaurant, in Danny’s words: “Was the cherry and sprinkles on the sundae!”
Regarding our tendency to worry….its natural…but I think its more important to take action than it is to sit and worry! Let’s gift a few more albums, post comments, rate on Itunes, stand in lines and continue to fangirl here! (Its so much fun.)
I do think that Danny having at least one national exposure event each week (Ellen, Oprah, Letterman, Regis and Kelly) would do wonders for reaching fans that have lost track of Danny. I do have confidence in RCA–look how well they have been doing! The Walmart promotion starts next Monday, if I remember correctly. I CAN’t wait to see big cut outs of Danny in the aisle of my WMT superstore….I told my husband that going to Walmart to have a picture taken with Danny would be a great date, LOL.
Oh, regarding my husband Ed, last night I heard MBDAAM blasting from our radio–he turned it way up so that I would hear it from another part of the house when it came on our local radio station. And Pam, we watched Danny videos together last night–it was so romantic…..
Jan
Hi Jan.
Ellen, April 9, he will at The Dallas Bull in Tampa. My husband has always wanted to go to this place. Funny that’s it’s me making it happen. I don’t really like bar atmosphere that much. So loud and too much drinking, we will have fun, don’t need to talk to him that much, he already knows most everything. lol
I forgot to mention how much I enjoyed everyone’s recap! Jannikas, Toni, Nina, Marilyn, and someody else, too, I think. (I apologize that I don’t remember off the top of my head.)
Also wanted to welcome all the new folks who have been posting the past few days. Frankastic (great to see there is more testosterone out there), Carla, Grace (?), and a few other folks that I am forgetting right now.
Twitter: JosieInSeattle
Hi Jan, seeing you here reminded me I wanted to say thanks to you and Toni for your recaps. I love reading those! You are both so good with adding interesting details.
Speaking of Ellen, I was on mj’s yesterday and there was a clip of an AI person who was just on her show. Do you know who it was? Kim Caldwell. Kim Caldwell??????!!!!!!!! Oh for heaven’s sake. Good luck to her and all that, but I have to admit it was a bit irritating to see when we are all so anxious to see Danny there! I’m sure it will happen in time, and it will be great exposure for him when it does.
Ellen B – MBD did debut at #4, I just typed too fast and didn’t proofread as usual lol.
Hi everyone!
So happy for Danny today! The excitement just grows…
Caught up on everything and just wanted to say to Amy that the video of your daughter singing MBD was adorable! She is a cutie and obviously has picked up on Danny’s energy in her moves.
Enjoyed the recaps from Jan, Toni & Cori. Thanks so much for sharing so much detail – glad you had some special Danny moments!
After listening to all of Danny’s CD last week, I’ve been taking each song and listening to it over and over a day at a time on my way back & forth to work. Today’s song is “Tiny Life” and the more I listen to the words the more it grows on me.
Carla, I listen to Danny’s CD to and from work also. I have listened to it many many times all the way thru but when I have a short time to listen, there are three songs that are musts for me to hear every time and the rest I rotate.
The 3 songs I must hear several times a day are My Best Days Are Ahead of Me, I Still Believe and I Will Not Say Goodbye.
Lizzy, you weren’t so wrong. Just read that Danny debuted at #3 on the country chart and #4 on the all-genre chart.
Ah, Cori’s was one of the recaps I forgot to mention. But there’s still someone else I’m forgetting. How embarrassing.
Well, need to head off for a while. BBL.
Hi IHearties, Thank you Ellen and to the other that enjoyed my recap, it was a joy doing it and so much fun reliving the hour spent enjoying Danny love. GG when you come here, I left a message late last night to you answering your question. My recap is under Danny stuff on March 6, about three pages back.
I very much enjoyed the others recaps too. There’s been so much good stuff to enjoy here this past week, almost too much to see and read. I am so amazed at how many good writers hang out on this site.
I know Danny’s people want IWNSG as his next single. Maybe, but I think Get Away would be a good bet. It’s a really fun song. But if they go for IWNSG as his second single, then they mght think about something definitely country like “Life On Ya.” I think very traditional country folks would really enjoy that song.
I like them all. Don’t know which is my favorite. I agree that Tiny Life may have too many words in it. Like it though. IWNSG is sad, but I’m usually up for it.
I think MBDAAOM was a very good pick for first song. Love the name of his Album.
I think Danny will definitly be in the running as country’s new artist of the year award. I really don’t think I’m biased. haha
Yes, Lizzy, I like all 3 of those songs. My ultimate favorite right now is Crazy Not To – have to listen to that at least once every day!
Last post (for a while). I am SO glad I waited to hear the studio version of IWNSG, and to hear any version of LTABT, GA, LOY, and CNT. It was so worth the wait, and now those songs are the freshest for me. They are the songs I tend to go to first. I like all of the “new” songs. But my favorites remain ISB and BS. Although GA is really smashing its way up there!
I think GA will be a Smash hit too.
I agree with the ones that say we should try to live in the moment and enjoy this day for what it is. A happy dance, a cyber toast and a loud yipee yay. Danny exceeded expectations.
For me, sometimes I refrain from getting too excited about good news because I’m afraid that something could happen to blot out the good news. And I think then that I miss feeling happy because of not wanting too high of expectations.
So lets get high (on life) because our lovely Danny is on his way to having a long career in Country, a place he admits is a perfect fit for him.
So here’s a high five to all of you Danny Fans. May he be a big star forever.
Hello everyone, I thought last week I was flying high with Danny on AI, this is great news selling 65,000 so much for the article that had him being lucky if he would sell 45,000 maybe!
I still have hopes there will be two cross-overs songs that will increase the sells. But this is an amazing week for Danny think he was excited last week on Idol can you imagine today?
Opry as far as I know will not be broadcast live but you can listen to the show at 650 AM or on line at WSM.com like before. To be going on the Opry with these results with the CD I think this could build into another sell for the CD!!!
Congratulations Danny! Off to vote
Also, wanted to say, I enjoy all the recaps and pics!!! Keep them coming.
This may be a silly question, but will Danny make videos of all his songs?
Carla, no question is silly. That’s what my mom taught me. I’m not the one to say, however, I did Helio say that maybe three videos would come out from this album, but I do know not all will be videos. Unless He made history and every one of his songs become #1 hits. lol
Have to go drive my 7 year old grand son home. BBL
LET’S CELEBRATE
Official press release is on the RCA Nashville site YAY:

Danny Gokey Makes Chart History with Debut Album!
Danny Gokey Achieves Best First-Week Album Sales by a Debut Country Male in 18 Years!
My Best Days Makes History with Highest First-Week Digital Sales by a Debut Country Act
Gokey Returns to the Grand Ole Opry This Weekend
Nashville, TN – 19 Recordings/RCA Nashville recording artist Danny Gokey powers his way into the chart record books this week, as his March 2 debut album, My Best Days, brought out the fans, with first-week sales of more than 65,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The accomplishment nets Gokey the best opening-week sales by a debut country male since 1992.
The soaring success of My Best Days includes a sizzling digital album tally in excess of 19,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan, earning Danny a #1 berth in chart history with the best first-week digital album sales ever recorded by a debut country act.
The album’s total sales also earn My Best Days this week’s highest chart entry by a debut artist, landing at #3 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and #4 on the all-genre Billboard 200.
After crossing the country with an event-packed release week filled with in-store appearances, concerts, radio visits, and television – including a Thursday return to American Idol to sing his hit, “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me” – Gokey will be in Nashville this weekend for a March 13 performance on the Grand Ole Opry. Gokey made his Opry debut earlier this year and will play both Opry shows this Saturday, in addition to meeting fans at a CD signing from 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM at The Opry Shop.
About Danny Gokey: Danny Gokey became a favorite of millions of fans nationwide as a finalist on Season Eight of American Idol, and on March 2, the Milwaukee native and 19 Recordings/RCA Nashville recording artist released his debut album, My Best Days. Danny credits his late wife, Sophia, with the inspiration to pursue his musical dreams on Idol, and he continues to honor her with the charitable work of the Sophia’s Heart Foundation, founded in her memory. Guess what! I am seeing Danny on April 3rd in Franklin,NC! I made the plunge and ordered two tickets! They were selling out fast–I’m so lucky I got such great seats–and Franklin isn’t far.
I owe my friend Jen a favor–she paid for my ticket to see David Cook last year in Carrboro, NC and she is also a Danny fan so this way I can pay her back. If she can’t go I’m sure someone else will accompany me.
I hope he has a meet and greet.
I CANNOT WAIT!
Oh, and Lee sings tonight. I’m flailing!
5th row!
ihearties, another great day for Danny, 65,000 in a week wow bet Danny is flying high. I was thinking that 65,000 is not all from who is on and off this site. This is a lot of people who have been waiting to hear from Danny and now it is here. And maybe they did not evan know about this site am curtain there will be more sells after the Opry show.
I am holding out for at least two songs to be cross-over songs and selling more CD’s.
Someone mentioned The Opry being broadcasted if it is not then listen on the radio at 650 AM or on line at WSM. Think it starts at 6pm. Off to vote
Rowansmom, yay for you! Glad you’ll get to see him.
Which of Danny’s songs would you all like to see as videos? My top choices would be Crazy Not To and IWNSG. Life on Ya I could see as being humorous.
Lizzy thanks for the link and that post. I had been waiting for the press release all day.
Rowansmom, That’s great! You were wise to buy the tickets early. Danny has a habit of selling out venues way in advance of the concert date.
Twitter: .
In reading the press release for Danny from RCA i’m disappointed. After posting the release for Jake Owen who got a “roared”, poor Danny only got a “powered” and a “sizzling”..
And before anyone take me to seriously I’m just joking!!
I’m off to choir rehearsal…bbl.
They were selling out as I was ordering them! At first the fourth row seats were available, but by the time I put in my credit card info, those were gone and I had to take 5th row seats! The place is pretty big too–not an arena, but a good size auditorium.
This a huge day for Danny and Kris. Odd that it would all happen on the same day. I’m happy for the both of them.

Danny Gokey sees huge gains in downloads after ‘American Idol’ performance Kris Allen passes a million: http://bit.ly/a2pMLr
Rowansmom
I am glad that you get to see Danny perform. I hope that you have a great time seeing him.
Hi everyone!
Helio, I am so happy for you! 5th row sounds great!
Reading the comments, I just have to chime in about the question of whether to respond to or ignore hateful comments. While I respect anyone’s decision to ignore the hate, for some of us it just is not possible. It’s not in our make up. It’s not so bad now, but back in the day when things were so ugly, I know that I felt like Danny needed a voice of reason, he needed a voice, period. I felt compelled to do it. It was like seeing an injustice, and you feel you just have to speak up.
I think others here feel and felt the same way. I didn’t follow TWOP, but I hear that FOGS was a lonely consistant voice for a long time for Danny in that thread, and I really respect and admire that.
Now let me say that this does not mean that I think that people who didn’t partake in this activity are not as good of fans. I don’t think that AT ALL. I can understand how some people could not stomach all of the hate and choose to ignore it. I think, as Pam and Josie said, we are all different. Each of us contribute something unique as fans for Danny.
I will not deny that there is a major part of me that lives on fear and doubt that Latrece mentioned. I am, by nature, not the most optimistic. I do enjoy hearing from those who are, though. I do not choose to be this way, it’s just the way that I am. I will agree that it’s probably not the most healthy, but we are who we are.
Carla, and everyone from yesterday, thanks for the comments about my daughter. She was funny tonight when my sister was talking about this year and American Idol. My sister said, “I like a lot of the girls, but I only like three of the boys, Lee, Andrew, and Alex.” Cameron said, “I like two.” My sister said, “Really, who do you like?” Cameron says, “Danny Gokey and Adam!.” LOL. She always calls Danny, Danny Gokey.

Hey Everyone, What a Wonderful Day for Danny!! So happy about his sales numbers!!! Ellen, that was me who wrote a small recap. I was waiting for Toni and Jan to do theirs so I wouldn’t be repeating the same stuff, since we we’re together. I will be posting some pics and maybe the rest of my recap.

Rowansmom Congrats on getting to see Danny soon.
Carla, answering to your question about which song we’d like to see a video of! My choices would be Crazy Not To, Get Away, and IWNSG.
Lizzy thankyou for that press release!! So Awesome!!!!
Hi Cori, I really enjoyed meeting you Saturday and hanging out together.
Pam your husband is Awesome!!!!

hi all,
Suz, so happy to hear you have tix now to see Danny
I think the “sleeping giant” actually came from a non-Danny fan, possibly even a hater, one time at mj’s. Haters have their uses occasionally, lol
Glad to hear Danny got a mention in the print edition of USAToday, not just Brian’s online blog.
Does anyone know if the Opry format is always just two songs each, or could Danny possibly do more than that Friday?
I see Josie and Pam with her various aliases already ran across it, but someone at mj’s posted a long-ish recap of seeing Danny in Detroit the other night. You can read it here (there is nothing hater-ish on this page)
http://mjsbigblog.com/danny-gokey-debut-hits-predicts-67k-update-sold-over-65k.htm/comment-page-3#comment-602391
A mention of Danny’s sales in the Country Aircheck email newsletter I receive daily. Nice to see the word is getting out to country radio.
» Power Trios: Notable sales debuts were turned in this week by Blake Shelton’s “Six Pak” album Hillbilly Bone (71,000), Danny Gokey’s My Best Days (65,000) and Easton Corbin’s self-titled debut (43,000). The albums ranked Nos. 2, 3 and 4, respectively, on the Nielsen SoundScan Country Albums chart, behind Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now (126,000). Gokey’s mark was the highest debut for a new male country artist in 18 years, according to Sony.
I was fan girling at my doctor’s office today. I brought Danny’s CD jacket w/pictures in. The girls at the front desk and all the nurses were oohing and aahing (sp.) over it. Even the one guy in the file room joined in to see what the commotion was all about. They remembered him from AI. Lots of interest and the comment, he’s really a nice looking guy. No kidding!!!!
Fun day. I also lost 25 pounds. It’s all that exercising to Danny’s music. I hate exercise. But Danny’s music is soooo inspiring.
Will check in tomorrow.
Twitter: steph6449
This is the part of her recap talking about the concert itself. She also ran into Danny at a restaurant after the show, and of course he was really sweet to her.
On Monday night I watched Danny perform at Diamond Back Saloon in Belleville, MI. Our local country station gave away free tickets to the show (my sister knows the owner of the bar so she got us tickets). There were about 1,000 people in attendance with a good mixture of ages and genders. First, let me say that TV does not do Danny’s voice justice. That boy can flat out sing. I liked Danny on AI. I know many people could not understand why the judges were pimping his singing so much, but after hearing him live, I can see why. He has this really great soulful vibe when he sings that did not come through on TV, he was throwing out notes left and right and every one was pitch perfect. (I was surprised to learn that his choir director job was a night job, he also worked days driving an 18 wheeler). Danny was very sweet, funny, relaxed and had great stage presence. He sang songs off his new album and covered “What Hurts the Most” and “Back at One.” He did some funny bantering with the audience when he dedicated “Back at One” to all the ladies and told them to make sure that the man in their lives treated them right, because they deserved it and then commented the one thing he didn’t understand about women is why it takes them 3 hours to shop for clothes (how did he know it took me two hours to find the top I was wearing that night…freaky). After he finished his last song the audience gave him a standing O and someone yelled out “PYT!” He turned to this bass player and said, “sorry I don’t think the band knows that one.” After some encouragement from the crowd he sang the first verse and then the audience started clapping along and his bass player joined in and we were treated to an impromptu a cappella version of PYT. After the show he stayed to signed autographs for everyone but we were told we could not take photos with him as he had to catch a plane (which turned out not to be entirely true LOL!).
BTW, I love all you guys (Danny, too, if you happen to read this)!!
I have no time to read the posts today. I’m so behind.
Hey everyone! its been a while! how are yall doing?
Twitter: steph6449
Awesome to read that person saying as many as 1000 peeps showed up for Danny in Detroit, got a standing ovation and people in the country club asking for PYT. lol!
.
This person apparently will be interviewing Danny this week, maybe someone else can figure out where it will appear
ashliekolb: Interviewing Danny Gokey from American Idol this week…any questions you guys want me to ask him??
http://ashliekolb.moonfruit.com/
I do have to say, that I am glad Danny got the props in Rolling Stones. Even though they may have a hidden agenda against Kris. But when you also think about it, the margin between actual sales for Danny and Kris isn’t really that great. The winner of AI only sold approximately 15K more units than the 3rd place finisher. And we all know that Danny lost out on sales since the stores were sold out.
Billboard was also very cool to Danny – acknowledging the milestones he set. But as I recall, they had blasted Kris when his first week sales came out – for having the worst debut of all the winners.

Hi Cindy–sorry I’ve missed you on my infrequent posts. And Cori, it was great meeting you in Milwaukee. I’m glad you got home safe Saturday night, but if only you’d know we’d end up seeing Danny again……
Nice recap from MI. As they say, that man can SING! Danny performing live is not like anything else! He is a natural up on a stage.
I’m glad no one minded that Toni and my recaps were so long….I was suppose to do some additional editing but work kept getting in my way, LOL. Jan
Jan
Hi Stephanie – how’s the acting business. I’ve missed you. Is your play still running?
Carla: The two songs I’d most like to see videos for are “I will Not Say Goodbye” and “Get Away.” I think both would make good videos.
The two songs I’d most like to see Danny perform live are “Get Away” and “Crazy Not Too.” Danny will rock it out with GA, and CNT will melt me into a puddle of goo, when I hear him sing, “Love, I don’t think so.”
Twitter: jannworth
Stephanie, nice to see you back! Jan
Ellen, Marilyn, Betty and Steph, I always love reading your posts!
hi to I am G!
Steph, thanks for bringing that over here. I think it’s so endearing how Danny will always try to fulfill anyone’s request. He did that with that girl’s basketball team at the restaurant and also here with people requesting PYT. He really wants to make people happy.
It reminded me of his homecoming when someone requested Billie Jean and poor sleep deprived Danny tried to do it off the cuff, and was beaten up over forgetting the lyrics. But it’s really just so endearing how he tries to accomodate his fans.
Hi Marilyn!
I’ve missed you too! I’ve missed everyone here haha!
My play wrapped up about a week ago, but my job has been working me like a dog! I finally got enough time tonight to post. We got a good review from our play (and I even got a little mention!) but I figured since today is all about Danny’s success I will post the link later lol!
I am actually going up to Atlanta on the 28th and auditioning for the Disney Cruise Line. I’m so excited!
So nice to see Danny’s album and chart positions on Wilkipedia:

Hi Stephanie.
It’s nice to see you around here again.
Hey FOGS! I missed being on here!
Is anyone else watching AI tonight?
Stephanie, long time, no see! What do you think of Danny’s CD? What tracks are your favorites?
We are interested in you, too, Stephanie, so please post the review of your play.

Sneaking away for a minute;
I am G; I thought the same thing; perhaps RS didn’t even acknowledge Kris’s higher #’s because he had the Christmas shopping season to sell, and they were so close. But I would be upset if I were Kris’s fans by that spin.
Carla; My votes for videos:
Get Away (wow, so fun!)
Crazy Not To (second the goo comment by Ellen)
Amy, keep your daughter’s videos coming; we love them
Hi Steph, Cindy, Betty, Marilynn, Jan everyone!
Helio, so happy you got tickets!!!! Yeahhh! We will have a lot of good recaps to look forward to.
I especially can’t wait for Gokey Guys
…Back to my company
Amy, so funny that your sister likes the same three guys that I do: Lee, Andrew, and Alex.
Stephanie, Congratulations. Sounds exciting. You can use that mention for your next interview for an acting job.
Ellen I think those are my two favorite songs. ( I keep changing my mind) lol
I see the video of IWNSGB in a huge old building, Maybe it was where the singer was married with flashbacks) A car drives down a road in the country perhaps, and stops before a beautiful old building and flashbacks starts of a wedding and then the two (of course I’m not suggesting any pictures of Sophia) dancing, then standing in shadows of a huge porch with huge beams singing, “I will always see your face in the shadows of this haunted place.”
“Maybe I can keep my heart from knowing you’re gone.”
Day peeks in the eastern sky and hes singing, “I’m waiting, praying, hoping etc.
Get away -[ could be fun. He could be in a convertible with a girl around a girl at some point as he sings. That could be a fun one to do.
Jan, thank you for saying you enjoy my posts along with the others I heart gals, I enjoy yours too. Actually It makes me happy to see your smiling gravatar you have such a big smile.
woops= arm around a girl while driving.
Hey Ellen!

I really loved Danny’s CD most of the songs were fantastic and the songs that weren’t my favorite were still really good!
My Best Days is of course great and so is It’s Only. But I really like Life on Ya and Tiny Life. My ultimate favorite though is I Will Not Say Goodbye. whenever I listen to it I remember when he sang it at the radio station and I get goosebumps!
Oh! and here is the link to the review…..http://blogs.creativeloafing.com/dailyloaf/2010/02/26/theater-review-usf-department-of-theaters-the-shaughraun/
rowansmom- forgot to say Yeah! to you getting tickets to see Danny. Fifth row should be awesome. So happy for you. Looking forward to your recap. Should be great.
Stephanie – get to go on a cruise and work on it? Wow what an awful sounding job, but then someone’s got to do it. lol
Oh! I just found out today that Danny is coming to the House of Blues in Orlando on April 10th! I bought tickets as soon as I found out haha! I am so excited to see Danny again!

Danny tonight in Chattanooga
http://twitpic.com/17t6ip – Danny Gokey!
Danny Gokey is really good!! So glad he chose Country music!
Waiting in line 2 talk 2 Danny Gokey! yipeee!
@dannygokey awesome show on Chattanooga. Thanks for sharing your love with us. Love the cd too.
.
Matt Bjorke’s take on the sales results, he does take note that Danny’s CD sold out in many places

Stephanie – try to get to see him after wards. I know he will remember you!
Twitter: steph6449
I didn’t try to look it up, but this suggests to me that the CA show that seemed to be this Thurday in California, must actually be next week which would make more sense on Danny’s travel schedule.
I’m sad that the Danny Gokey show tomorrow is rescheduled… But now I’ll get to see him two days in a row next week
about 3 hours ago via web
Marilyn
yah, I wil be auditioning for face characters (like Cinderella or Alice). it’s not the stage shows but its a good way to get my foot in the door.
Oh, you can bring along photos of you in your cinderella costume. You were so beautiful in that dress. That should help you.
marilyn
i am going to try my hardest to see him! I’m even going to the Dallas Bull the night before to see him haha!
I’m wondering if (since he’s gonna be in Disney) if he’s gonna go to Disney World? hmmmmm
Ellen, those are the guys that I like best, too!
Pam, I’ll try to do that! She really does love “Danny Gokey,” though. I think I told you about the time that my sister, who is primarily an Adam fan, but really likes Danny, too, said to Cameron one day when Adam was on tv…”Come here, Cameron, let’s watch Adam on tv.” Cameron replied “No, I NOT watch Adam, I watch Danny Gokey!”
She also often says, “That Danny Gokey, he’s a goooooooood singer!”
I really would love to get that job on the cruise line, it looks like a lot of fun
Yes Steph Danny rescheduled the show in Citrus Heights until next Thursday. I’m glad, because they are having one more day to try to win tickets. I will try tomorrow morning.
I couldn’t have gone tomorrow anyway because a friends mother passed away and the funeral is the same time as the singing event. (She was a wonderful lady and had a good 89 years on this earth.)
I’m still hopeful that I will get to win tickets.
Steph, I think is interesting that you realized that that was not scheduling for Danny. Next week he has a show in Santa Rosa which is about a 2 and a 1/2 hour drive from citrus Heights which is kind of like a suburb of Sacramento.
I feel kinda sorry for Andrew. He really does have a good unique voice. I wish he could come into his own.
Sorry you realized that the scheduling was not a good one for Danny.
Amy I love your daughter’s antics. She always makes me chuckle.
Stephanie – maybe you could offer to show Danny around.
Twitter: steph6449
have to lol at the mj peeps who are now envious that Danny has a March album release, when a few months ago they were sure that could never work and everyone would have forgotten about him. ha.
Marilyn
I will gladly do that haha! everyone let Danny know that when he’s n Florida I’m the one to call to show him around…especially Disney!
Maybe Andrew will surprise all of us tonight. I hope Lee does well and I would like to see Casey really do something great. I think Casey has it in him if he can get over himself.lol
Are they now saying that the reason Danny sold so well was because he had no competition in March? How funny.
I bet if Danny had the same exposure as their men, he would have had a much larger selling share of units in November. Imho Danny can sing circles around Chris and I like Danny’s voice even better than Adams, although I did like the video of Adam singing WDYWFM in that down under video.
He still can’t compete with our sweet Danny though. Danny’s fans over at mj’s are getting the last laugh.

Stephanie, I looked at your review, that’s awesome! Good luck on the Disney audition. It’s really nice to see you back here.
rowansmom, awesome news about the show!
Ellen, just wanted to make sure you saw my response to your very kind post to me. I saw you posted right at the same time, just after it, and sometimes when that happens the screen jumps up just to your last post. Thanks again, I hope we do get to do a show together sometime.
About the video question, I am trying to narrow it down here. Hmm. IWNSG, Crazy Not To, Get Away, Life On Ya, Like That’s a Bad Thing. Do you think that’s too much to ask?
I am off to the store and will watch the AI boys when it comes on here later. Talk to you all later.

Thanks for the link to the roughstock article Steph. Nice to read that we are not the only ones who think that Danny would have sold more if more CD’s would have been available in stores. Hopefully he will continue to sell this week now that shelves have been stocked. He needs another national TV performance though.
I was watching a little of AI but none of the guys compare to Danny so I just can’t get into it. I think that I will probably route for a girl this year – then at least I won’t compare her to Danny.
Hey Josie!
Glad the link worked!
hi everyone
i left a nice comment on here but i doubt it will get posted since i’m not a ‘glambert’ http://perezhilton.com/2010-03-10-a-surprise-hit
I can tell you that I have been watching American Idol since the very first season and have only had 3 favorites including Danny and Danny is my all time favorite. I don’t think there will ever be anyone like him again on the show. He is one of a kind. I’m sure that Adam fans are saying the same thing because there will also never be another Adam on the show. I am getting really tired of the guys and gals with guitars – what were they thinking this year.

Danny is mentioned in this
http://blog.gactv.com/blog/2010/03/10/toby-keith-dolly-parton-business-beyond-music/
.
The March release is a work of genius apparently because
- it allowed Danny a lot of time to put out a quality album {meaning haters who claimed his albums was too rushed for him to even choose his songs are full of it}
- it allowed him to appear on AI9 which reaped a big benefit of sales, unlike the other poor three who debuted in the fall {despite their all being on national tv multiple times, including some primetime shows though not on the week of their album debuts}
- it allowed Danny to release his album when competition is wearker {vs the original theory that nothing would sell now, and only sales pre-Christmas would be any good|}
etc. etc.
.
Post by Trish B. the DJ in Chicago, not sure where she got the Chicago sales figures but she says “Danny is second only to Lady Antebellum in country sales for Chicago this week.”

AI DOL COMMENTS WARNING
I watched Idol, too. It looks like the guys have improved in the 3 weeks, but I’m still not stoked. (Which is a good thing; I don’t have time to afford to get so involved, LOL…..)
The best so far: Michael, Lee, and —-can’t pick they tend to run together. Andrew is just not wowing me right now. Casey was good, but not that memorable. At least Tim was much better than before…
jan
Marilyn, I like your descriptive scenes for IWNSG!
Welcome back, Stephanie. You don’t know me but I’ve lurked here since last May so feel like all of you are already friends. So glad your play went well and that’s exciting news about the cruise line possibility.
Well, the rainy weather here is making me very sleepy so I’m off for the night.

eeps, Perez Hilton writing about Danny, lol. and on the front page of his site, huh.
Twitter: steph6449
plus that theory of March being some easy way to sell more albums is full of it as neither Kris nor Adam saw a huge boost in album sales. maybe with Kris you could argue he had enough media to saturate his sales potential, but less so with Allison.
they just didn’t make much impact with their ~ok performances/appearances, where Danny put his full energy into singing, and even his extra-chatty interview was well-received as people wanted to see someone really positive, talented, and invested in what they were doing this season.
Twitter: steph6449
*neither Kris nor Allison, not Adam. though Adam’s proof that just appearing on tv (AMAs, that dance show, etc.) don’t cause skyrocketing sales independent of what you actually do on the show
i told them they need to get over the death of his wife steph and Danny Gokey Achieves Best First-Week Album Sales by a Debut Country Male in 18 Years! they probably won’t like what i say lol
someone wrote 65,000 sucks for a new release, just so you know. i don’t think it sucks at all.
I watched American Idol…season 8 and I feel that Danny should have won instead of Kris Allen….I haven’t heard anything from him until the new Ford commercials came out. I couldn’t wait until the next week, just to watch and hear what Danny was going to sing. I listen to Sirius in my truck…what channel will they be playing it on? I already have heard it on the Jaxsonville, Fl 99.9 Gator Country. Danny keep up the great work and hope to hear from you many years to come.
Hey Carla! so nice to hear from you!

I agree with your assessment, Steph. Allison didn’t receive the same bump as Danny, because 1. she didn’t perform as well as him and 2. not as many people liked her to begin with.
Danny came on and reminded everyone why they loved him last year, and I’m sure gained new fans as well.
I still think it was a fluke that it wasn’t Danny and Adam in the finale. I believe that Danny was a much more popular contestant than Kris.

A few snarky comments on EW. But surprsingly, the main article acknowledges Danny – instead of the usual petty attacks, lol.

Amy, worst case I thought they were probably pretty close toward the end of the season between Danny, Adam, and Kris. But Kris’s fans seem to have mastered the power texting, and were more active on the iTunes front.
I keep thinking back with Simon telling people on the top 3 show to vote for Adam. I don’t think he would have wanted to hurt Danny as he’d predicted a Danny + Adam final. I think he expected Danny to get safely through but was nervous that Kris could bump out Adam.
.
This may be the first time I’ve seen confirmed that Danny will be at the Scranton PA concert.
For Ellen – tickets go on sale Friday.

I am G, Steph – that is so refreshing on EW to have their comments part very Danny positive, Danny love obviously reigns on that part and no hate stands a chance… There is no hate to put on that great debut of Danny… They just can’t help the truth that their Allison and Kris didn’t make it that successful as Danny is… They underestimate Danny and that is the price of underestimating raw talent…

marilyn – if you’re still here, yes, ive read your recap and it was great… its was so sweet of your hubbie to do that to your anniversary and im sure its the most memorable one…
hello girls
i see danny haters are active again on different sites. actually i find their comments really amusing and funny knowing that they are the same people that bashed danny months ago and of course we all know they are proven wrong time and time again.

Lizzy, I hear you on AI guys although Lee is interesting. Actually, after Danny and Adam – the two power voices – the whole thing is kinda ZZZZzzzzz….
Didn’t get a chance to go to Walmart today, ran around and did other things but will try tomorrow.
I like this talk about videos; I can see videos to IWNSG, Get Away – Danny should be driving an 18 wheeler trying to get away from some outlaw biker gang with the band in the back screaming and trying to make him stop, I can just see it in my head – Tiny Life, Be Somebody, uh….oh heck, let’s make a video to them all and be done with it!

Just posted a positive comment on EW using the facts and saying I was so proud of our guy. Mentioned the Sugarland tour, the Grand Ole Opry appearance, and the promo tour going strong. They can crab all they want, but they can’t argue with the facts
Hi looks like everybody on the east coast went beddy bye.
Billie, I was just listening to Get Away. There has to be a problem why Danny’s leaving town.
Could be he and his girlfriend are eloping (an old concept) but he’s down at the bottom of her home holding a ladder and his girl is climbing down the ladder with a suitcase in hand and you can see they’re being quiet. When she hits the ground, she hands him her suitcase and they kiss, they sneak to the car.
Her dog in the house starts barking, her old man (sorry dad) looks out the window, sees them, opens the door and tells the dog to sic Danny, but Danny opens the car door and the job happily jumps in along with his girl. Her dad grabs a shotgun and runs out after them. Her old boyfriend pulls up at the same time. She points to her engagement ring and blows her old boyfriend a kiss and waves goodbye as Danny in the convertible squeels out and guns the car down the road.
The next thing you see are two car, her dad, and her ex-boy friend chasing Danny and his girl, his arm around the girl, the dog’s happily hanging his head in the wind, dog’s tongue hanging out, while they’re speeding down the 2 lane farm-country road.
Danny, speeding in the car, passes a copy on a motorcycle, (shame on Danny cause he turns off the road quickly, her dad goes bye and her boyfriend, along with the cop and while the cop pulls over the dad, the boyfriend speed on by) and the dad is getting a ticket, Danny turn off on another road.
Next scene on the car is parked on the beach there’s a bond-fire, Danny is sitting with his arms around the girl whose head is laying back against his chest, the dog laying next to Danny with waves rolling in.
She turns around to face Danny while he sings, “I’m never, never going back. Never Never—kisses her and well the song is finished.
something like that? Or are you still in for the 18-wheel truck and a biker gang chasing him?
Marilyn, what an active imagination you have! I thought “Get Away” had to do with boss troubles. And the video you described sounds a bit like the video for Dierks Bentley’s “What Was I Thinking?”
whoops sorry for all the typos, I should have read it first. It’s night time that is a cop not a copy that stops her dad. oh well maybe you got the idea. lol
Hi Ellen– The story line could just as easily be a boss problem. But I think it should be funny, don’t you?
Maybe he has on a hat building a house and somethings happens and the house tumbles down flat. Every body stands around with their mouths open– Danny and his partner was in charge. People start running after his hollering and Danny jumps in his car and its the road.
Gokeyguy, now is not a good time for Carole to be having computer problems. I wish I knew something about what to do with a virus problem. I may try to ask around tomorrow at work. GG, will you be checking in tomorrow? I’m not on twitter, so I can’t contact you or Carole that way.
Is Carole sure it’s a virus? What is her computer doing?
I meant hard hat. hits the road.
Ellen where is GG? I don’t see his post.
See, Marilyn, I knew pretty early on that I was really going to like you! I used to write when I was younger. I just love your energy, imagination, and ability to visualize! You remind me a friendship I once had with someone who shared my love of reading and writing. I could really see us enjoying each other’s company. Maybe someday . . .
I think GG is asleep by now. Maybe he’ll see my post if he lurks later on.
Oh, I see the post above a ways back. Wow, Carole has a virus? I don’t really know what to do. I took my operating system and put it back in and ran it. But you lose everything that was on the computer. And I had to put it back in several times, once for the sound, another time for the internet. And some computer peeps told me that was not a good solution because my computer could have crashed while I was doing that.
But it got rid of the virus, that I had about 3 times. And I haven’t had a problem since then.
Thank you Ellen. That is high praise. I like you too. I usually agree with just about everything you write about. Even about wishing Danny would take care of the “going pop” even after speaking with Randy Travis. \\\\
I love honesty and frankness. And I am sure that Danny is only following the advice of his managers. But it doesn’t really work so well for Danny because he is so truthful. Maybe that was a part of him doing something that he didn’t really want to do to be a successful recording artist. Not that he’s lying, but that he’s not being as forthcoming about him going country as he would like to be.
I’m like you. And I hated those Chicago people setting him up like that. They said they had to do it because they had promised something? to their listeners.
What you said, I thought too, I just didn’t have the “balls” to say.lol
JOSIE, I did see your earlier post. I hope you have fun on the 17th. (I plan to!) Still a bit sad that you can’t make it to Portland, but real life is important, as Danny would be the first to say.
I really admire your warrior spirit as you wade through hate-tard-infested sites. In some ways “warrior” might not be the right analogy, as you are the peacemaker who refuses to get stomped on. But effective warriors are also good strategists.
I’m actually pretty good at getting people to step back to get a different perspective on a situation, so I’m usually capable of giving reasonably good advice. To others. Can’t run my own life, though, worth beans. As for politics, office and otherwise, I’m oblivious. I really admire your ability to deal with people. I think I could learn a lot from you.
The Dial Idol figures are not looking good for Lee. He might be in danger of going home. I don’t get it at all.
Ellen I do like to read. I have gone through times when I read book a day, or maybe a day and a half, way back when my kids were in school.
I still love a good book. When I was a teenager, I would ride my bike to the library, put my new books to read in the basket and pedal the mile home and was so happy that I had books to look forward to read.
Sometimes when my friends would call me on the phone, I was aggravated if I was in the middle of a book lol
I take spells in my life when I read. But I mainly prefer christian love stories. Only christian because sometimes I feel like a voyuour (sp?) if it has too much sex in it.
Sorry, I get carried away sometimes.
Sorry Helio, I know you really like him. My bother called again this evening and talked to me so long that I missed his singing again this week. Are they on youtube? I would like to see his performance.
Marilyn, I think you’ve put your finger on it, right there. I don’t think Danny is lying or covering anything up about his decision to go country, but I do get the impression that he isn’t being as forthright about it as he could be. And he sticks so close to the Randy Travis script, that I am starting to wonder if that is something the label wants him to do.
Helio what is the idol phone number? I could still vote for the next 10 minutes.
I’ve always though so too Ellen.
Marilyn, I missed Lee too, just like I missed Katie last week. But I was able to google Katie and see her performance on YouTube, so I assume we can do the same with Lee.
Do you know his number to vote for Lee. I would vote for him and help keep him around. I have liked him in the past.
Helio, I’m not very invested in any of the Idols this year, but I know tomorrow I will feel a bit sad, because someone I like will go home. I thought all the guys did pretty well, although there were no showstoppers.
Funny thing about the Danny Gokey resemblance. I know everyone said Andrew reminded them of Danny, but the only similarity I see are the glasses. But tonight I thought Lee looked a lot like a cooler version of Danny. (Danny’s pretty cool now, but back then he was adorkable.)
I guess not. Ellen I’m going to get out of here a little earlier tonight than usual. I have a funeral to attend in the morning. So. Nitey nite. Sleep tight and have a great tomorrow.
Sorry, Marilyn, I don’t have the number.
I’m going to head out now. Busy day at work tomorrow!
