What a crazy fun and exciting week for all the Danny lovers.Even through I am not that eager to know the number,it’s still a way that reflects how all the hard work pays off for our sweet Danny. It’s fake if I say I dont care about the sales.But for me the most important thing is he can do what he loves to do.It’s easy to tell he is content of what he has achieved.Why shouldnt he,I mean he is living in his dream.His best days are ahead of him.
And for all the ones who have been in his concert,I am extremely happy for you guys.For those who has the chances to go,just take it.
Today is my birthday and I was feeling a little sad about the number…until I listed to My Best Days Are Ahead of Me. Thanks Danny.

Wow, lots of new things posted to read this morning
Danny told IHeart he may sell 70,000 copies? Interesting, guess we will see soon enough.
I saw that California station advertising Danny in concert there “this Thursday.” That seems odd, as he’s in TN the day before and has the Jeffrey Steele thing. Perhaps it could be the following Thursday, which would be the day in between his visits to Oregon and going to that Expressions College appearance.

Danny is currently ranked #30 on the 7 Day Rolling chart and is up 247 spins for the week.
70,000 would be a great number. Can’t wait for the HDD predictions later today and final numbers from Brian at USA Today on Wednesday. So exciting for Danny.
His single is doing very well also. He’s at #30 up 247 spins and will be in the high 20′s on Billboard this week.
His album did drop on Itunes which is expected because there are new releases today. He is still in the top 10 overall at #8 and #2 in country. It sure was fun seeing him at the top all last week.

Hello Mr.Bing, Steph and all other Ihearties! I have a very busy week at work and won’t be around here that much, but will catch up with the news and comments whenever I can.
Last week was a crazy one and I have to agree with Betty, who said that it all got a bit too much for her. It’s been such a ride to see how Danny’s career is moving forward so fast. It would have been interesting to know how much Danny’s album could have sold during the first week if the stores would have ordered enough copies.. Let’s hope that the sales exceed the estimates and Danny will end up having fairly impressive figures.
This album is so good that it will definitely sell very well also on a long term.
Yesterday evening when I got home quite late it was great to hear that my boyfriend was playing Danny’s album and really enjoying it. Still haven’t got the hard copy CDs from Amazon, but we just bought a new stereo system and IPod Touch and are able to listen to the digital version. We actually think that CDs still have better sound quality than the digital versions.

Good Morning!
My day off, but will be escorting Rodrigo (exchange student) around most of the day doing his favorite activity: shopping!
Danny makes me smile; he is such a little kid; he just couldn’t contain his excitement about the #’s of CDs he sold. If he said it, I guess its probably “official” ; we can count on him selling more that the 45k-50k predicted by HDD.
I do love seeing him on iTunes; hope he can hang on there in the top 10 so we can see his name up there. Perhaps the 500 copies that iaamspfid is gifting will help!
Prepare for sour grapes. Already someone at MJs is saying how they don’t believe stores are out of his CD- just a story made up by fans to make him seem more popular. I had to point out Brian’s comment about Danny being the “Tickle Me Elmo of March CD sales”

Pam, lol. If fans are making that up, they must be well-orchestrated across numerous states as I read it over and over on twitter plus reports here.
And there’s also that 5-10 minute video of the fan on her expedition to find Danny’s CD with her mom and did. They went to three stores before finding it somewhere down south.
70,000 would be fantastic, hope that’s right but I’d be thrilled with a top 5 or top 10 Billboard result wherever that comes in the market right now. Imagine Danny’s label does know how many are sold off iTunes and amazon, and they would know the numbers for the Sony store and how many were shipped to stores for last week. So they may have an educated guess.

Ah, I see I just jinxed him; he is now #11 on iTunes overall! Amost all new albums above him except for Lifehouse and Lady A. But he is still #2 country and single is #4. Yeah!
It sure was fun seeing him in the top 10 all week though!
I think Adam didn’t stay in the top 10 the whole week; but maybe someone else remembers better than me.

“I am having a hard time following the hype about where an album falls on the *hit* list. I know it is great seeing your favorite on the top but the main buying public has no idea or cares where an album is on the charts. There are too many variables for me to put a lot of stock as to where they fall each week. (like who released that week….what time of year…what month etc.) I think if you are in the top 50 then it may show a good thing…maybe even in the top 25 but the other….eh. I think for those here it is important but in the *real* world I think people pay little attention. Twittering things has less validity ….there is too much nonsense on it.
This is NOT a statement made for any idols benefit or to disparage the success of any one in particular…..for me it is just fun to watch but not to base a success of an artist on it. Except for someone like runaway Sue….man what a success in album sales. Does it equal her talent….not in my opinion.”

Well, I guess his label really knows what they are doing. Saving their $$ for other promo; and counting on the AI appearance they knew would propel him. They know Danny would not disappoint on AI. And yes, he chattered a lot, but I guess that buzz is not a bad buzz, many thought it was cute.

I definitely think that the AI appearance helped him out a lot and that he did a good job promotion himself. It was a smart idea for him to tell people on AI about his website and CD. I think that him doing that definitely helped him out with sales.

FOGS, its a good thing Danny is a fast talker
I watched it back (I was too nervous the first time to enjoy and was hyper critical).
I think his execution was great; still think he was sharp throughout the song. But he was consistently sharp, so I wonder if he did that on purpose because he was hoarse from the week. After all, only diehards like us might pick up on that. And he was so cute with all his chatter and buddiness w/Ryan. I wish we could have found out what the judges said to him during the commercial break when they mobbed him.

I think he should sing IWNSGB of course, since its his second single and Life On Ya, since it is a fun, country sounding song that could appeal to all ages.

The question is prompted by that Danny tweet –

Well, Brian Mansfield did predict around 75K. And he said that will easily give Danny the distinction of having the strongest debut by any male Country artist in a long time. He said Bucky Covington debuted at 61K.
Danny is known to be intense – and competitive. And he has been just bursting with exictment and confidence. 19E and RCA Nashville must be providing him with sales updates on a regular basis.
Let me be very conservative – I think it’s very safe to assume that Danny has blown way past Allison’s debut of 32K.

Wanted to share a little lunacy with those that would truly appreciate it…
Last night I stopped by my local Best Buy and remedied the little situation that had me stressing. That’s right! I moved the six (that’s right – just six) MBDs CDs to the new music section with the little Danny Gokey space divider, next to Lady A and the other new releases!
Feel much better now!
Too darn funny. I couldn’t let it rest. Kept thinking about people coming into the store and not finding Danny. It is prime real estate, right there on the end of the aisle where people walk by. I’ll be darn, if Danny’s new CD is going to be buried in the last aisle under the old country releases.
So Danny…(if you’re lurking) Can you hook us up with some workshirts for BB, Target, Walmart etc?

Pam, for the Opry appearance, I think your suggestions of IWNSG and Life On Ya are really good. If he’s too tired for IWNSG then “Crazy Not To” would be another good one. Maybe not the dragon glasses though! They’re cool, but I’d probably go with something that looks more like the ones on his album cover.
bosman, I enjoyed reading your post late last night where you talked about standing out with a natural style of speaking (to paraphrase). I think that it can make a difference in how accessible people think you are, both with verbal style and writing style. I find it easier to do that verbally than in writing. (I hope I don’t sound too much on here as if I am writing a business memo, I am really not all that formal in real life.
I remember hearing Danny say once that Anoop was always correcting his grammar. He must have remembered much of it, because I don’t really notice a lot of issues. No more so than what one would normally hear in day to day life talking to our friends, I think.
I saw Erika did a post reminding people to vote etc. In case anyone didn’t see the discussion yesterday, I also wanted to encourage people to go to iTunes and rate the reviews. Each review has a question where you can click yes or no to “was this review helpful?”. The default is to sort the reviews by most helpful, so clicking “yes” to the ones that do a good job of describing why the album is good will move those up closer to the top. And “no” to the obvious hater ones to move those down.
Noticed Danny has lots of guys signing up at DGO. Was really thrilled to see it.
Still need to catch up on yesterday’s chatter, but am going to head out for a long walk. Beautiful day here in PA again today. Sunny, clear and mid 50′s. I am almost afraid to say this, but I think spring is here

It’s normal that Danny gets the ideal most of his fans are female.Cause female are more willing to show their enthusiasm.Take a look at the videos we can easily find out the main part of fans there are female.Of course,I will be there if I get a chance to see him perform live.But beside that I would also like to be lowkey male fan.
I would just like to say I am happy that Danny’s sales seem to be very good but, I also feel bad that the stores did not have enough copies of his cd available because I think he might of gotten closer to 100,000 if his record had not been sold out,especially after his appearance on Idol. So whatever the numbers are it is not an actual representation of what he could of actually sold.

I agree Sherry. If the stores had been fully stocked the week Danny’s album was released and after AI, then the sales numbers would have been higher. The day after AI would have been a huge day for sales. It was fresh in people’s minds then. But, they can’t redo that mistakes. With all the appearances that Danny’s doing now, it will boost up his sales too. Can’t wait for the true official number to come out. Will that be tomorrow?

Think that is a general fan girl phenomena in general.
You will have to just make sure and meet him some day. I can always tell how much he appreciates his male fans, because he seems to make an extra effort to shake hands or hug them (In my experience).

Yes, the females show their love for Danny with more enthusiasm. Guys are more subdued and Kool and not “Fangirlish”, like us females. He probably also associates the Ihearts more with woman because there are more woman than men here. With us, I believe, you guys stand out because we like having that male perspective.

You are such a gutsy woman. I loved that you took the initiative to put Danny’s cds on the new release rack. Good for you. Why in the world are the stores not putting Danny’s cds on the new release rack anyway? That’s strange to me because it is a new release. They should know that when stocking.

I tried to access the 3-part interview and performances at US99.5′s website. They’re podcasts. First time I’ve come across them and I wasn’t even able to access them. Leave it to this radio station to post the information as podcasts.
Also, they shouldn’t have made Danny feel uncomfortable by insisting on re-playing something he said while he was on AI and still not sure where he fitted in as an artist. There is absolutely no good reason to have done that. I truly believe they pulled this stunt because they don’t think Danny should be in country and that may also be why it took them so long to add MBD to their playlist. They finally jumped on the bandwagon the day before his CD dropped. Hmm. They never promoted Danny or MBD to help get him to where he is today.
US99.5 in Chicago continues to leave a bad taste in my mouth.
A lot of men seem to really like Danny. There are songs on his album that appeal to men as well as women. Danny appeals to aq wide range of people–young and old, black and white, male and female, etc. That’s why he has staying power.
I’m actually not too worried about the stores not ordering enough CDs. They probably didn’t anticipate the demand. 75,000 copies is terrific, even if he could have potentially sold 100,000 or more. Danny is happy and that’s all that matters.

I also thought that was uncalled for and distasteful. Of course Danny didn’t know for sure what kind of music he wanted to do. He was testing the waters on all genres at that time.
I am confused as to why the reporter in Milwaukee on Fox news called Danny’s CD, My Better Days. I would have thought that all Milwaukeeians would know what Danny’s CD is called.
Bosman and Mr. Bing: I think all of the folks from iheart that Danny has met (so far) have been female, which probably is why he said that. That will change when he meets Gokeyguy on March 21st. (Hmm, I sound pretty confident about that, don’t I? See, GG, you need to hold up the guys end!) Maybe Danny should refer to us as ihearties, like Sophia’s cousin John does. That would be gender neutral.
For anyone who has been on the site long enough to remember, Amy and Erika changed the heading on the discussion banner from “Good morning, Gokey Girls” to “Good Morning, Gokey Fans” in order to be gender neutral. I think that was at the time that Gokeyguy and DOGG came along.
Personally, I love the fact that there are men on the site. And that you tolerate when some of the women fangirl over Danny’s physical appearance. Speaking only for myself, I have been happiest in work settings where there has been a balance of men and women. Too many women (or too many men) has been uncomfortable for me.
I am tickled pink to see more and more male Danny fans come out of the woodwork. Danny can’t be successful based on sales to women alone — he needs his male fans! But most of the men are more likely to be low key. They are not going to be “fangirling” all over the place like we women!
So please, please stay! We love the guys!
Plus, the guys get a pretty good education here on how women really think!
And it’s also good for the women to get a male perspective.

Does anyone know anything about Danny’s band, the Peppermints? Was it a band that was already established together, or was it just started for Danny? I love seeing Danny with a full band.
I wonder if Danny has met Jennifer Nettles yet? Danny had mentioned that he met the guy, sorry, I can’t remember his name, the guy who sings with Jennifer. But at that time Danny had not met Jennifer.
Can you tell I’m cranky today? I’ve been having computer problems. On Friday I had something malicious get into my music and video files that affected iTunes. My iTune store downloads were not affected, but everything else was. I was on the phone with Geek Squad for more than four hours yesterday, before I was transferred to a senior person who could finally help me. Geek Squad via phone is a mess, and in person they’re not much better. Last time around it took them two weeks to get an in-home job done right, but not before losing all of my e-mail and bookmarks. The fifth person to come out was excellent, so people request him and he does the majority of the work. Seems to work well for all of the others. The guy who was really good has his eye on corporate, so when the time comes, another company will snap him up quick. So sad.
I am five days behind on iheart.
Did anyone notice that Sugarland has their own store for buying Sugarland items? Danny needs one of those. They have t shirts, tank tops, necklaces, candles, posters, hoodies and cds.
Why do folks think it’s odd to move CDs around in a store? I do it all the time, and I’m not the only one.
MR. BING, COVER YOUR EYES!
I once found a handful of Adam’s CDs hidden, and I put them in their proper place, under his name. (The CD had been out a while so was no longer in the new release section.) I wasn’t sure whether the CDs were hidden by fans who didn’t have the money and wanted to come back to buy it later (and therefore “reserved” a copy by hiding it), or whether someone was being nasty, messing around. (Like the guy who made the comment at Brian Mansfield’s blog.) For me, it was probably an OCD thing. LOL! But Maryann, my friend Dee (the Adam fan) did exactly the same thing a while back — she positioned Adam’s CD more prominently. Why can’t Danny’s fans do the same? Especially when we have a legitimate reason to do so — the fact that fans have had trouble locating Danny’s CD in stores? Do not feel bad about what you did! You did the right thing!

Sorry to hear that you have had so much trouble with your computer. That can certainly be a headache.
Congrats to all of you who were able to see Danny this past weekend. It looks like the house was packed (standing room only?) I really wanted to join all of you, but my back is so bad that I wouldn’t have been able to do any of the standing. I’ve had to face the fact that I will never meet Danny or even see him in concert. I’ve been crying a lot this past week; tears of joy for Danny and tears of sadness for myself.
Part of me is a bit disappointed that we will will never know for sure how many CDs Danny would have sold if his CD had been stocked (and displayed) properly. So whatever the sales numbers, there will always be an asterisk after it. And Danny may have permanently lost a few sales to casual fans. But overall, I don’t understand why everyone obsesses so much about first week sales. I’m more interested in Danny’s staying power — what he will sell overall?
As for the naysayers, they are pretty conceited, aren’t they? Because it is conceited to say that just because you don’t like a singer, no one else will. I have never said that Danny’s voice is for everyone. Nor have I ever said that another artist couldn’t sell well, just because I don’t like them. People’s musical tastes are all over the place, which is one reason why it makes such an interesting topic of conversation.

Betty, I’m sorry about your back. Yes, that is a lot of hours standing in line. I don’t know how all the fans can stand that long either. Maybe there will be an appearance that Danny will have where you know that you don’t have to stand as long so then you could go. There’s always hope.
Hey! So Danny says his cd’s first week sales may be 70,000?!!! If it’s coming from him, then I guess he would know a little more about that b/c the label is probably filling him in on what’s going on w/that. But, like everyone else, just have to wait and see when the final numbers come in later on today/tomorrow. Either way, that’s a great number of sales

Thanks, VC. I think things are resolved now, but today I’m wiped out. Don’t think I’ve mentioned it before, but one of my problems is fibromyalgia. It takes me a while to write and get it right, which is time-consuming, and I have a hard time remembering who said what. That’s why my posts are short and also why you don’t see me post often. I’m usually out of the loop.

VC, now that Danny’s CD is out and he has returned for a visit to American Idol, I think the smaller venues are going to dry up. Yesterday, I read the recap someone posted on DGO about going to Best Buy in Orland Park, IL. It’s amazing now how just in the past week Danny’s popularity has soared. Danny is now being shared with the world, and is no longer ours. I’m happy and sad about that.
Forgot to say earlier, There was an ad for Danny’s CD, along with a picture of it, in the news section of my ISP home page.

Betty, I don’t think I could knock him over but if I ever did I am DEFINITELY telling him my name is Betty! Ha! My most embarrassing incident with a suitcase so far was once when I was pulling it off the carousel and didn’t realize that a man in a wheelchair with his broken leg sticking out in front of him had pulled up right behind me. I turned around and sure enough, THUMP. Oh gosh, that kind of thing just really doesn’t make your day. For either one of us. But come to think of it, I did knock someone down once. Actually, twice. I knocked the same man down twice on a ski slope within about half an hour. Didn’t run into anyone else, just him. He wasn’t mad but it was so embarrassing! I’m glad you are feeling better, hope it’s a good day!

Just started to read today’s page but decided to jump down here to respond to VickieCarol’s comment about merchandise.
And I agree completely! So many country artists have “stores” on their websites where fans can buy teeshirts, pics, posters, jewelry, keychains, etc. I seriously wish Danny’s site would do this. Not everyone will get the chance to see Danny perform in person, either during his promo radio tour OR with Sugarland. This is something that is sadly lacking. I would think they’d be smart enough to realize the sales they’d rack up if they sold merchandise!
Also, to Betty — You’d be smart not to deal with the Geek Squad. They really screwed up my computer so badly last summer because the guy at Best Buy who I was seeing, closed it when it was downloading upgrades. That is a NO-NO! It ruined my computer to the point where I had to send it back to Dell for repair (it was still under warranty, thank goodness). So of course I lost all my bookmarks, address book, everything, gone. You’d be much better off hiring someone in the Yellow Pages who is reliable. I’ve heard other stories about the Geek Squad that were just as bad. Just sayin’.

Shirl, my computer is a desktop, heavy, and I can’t bring it in for repair. Since I live alone, I have to be careful about allowing unknown people into my home. I went with Geek Squad primarily for that reason.
Geek Squad is always looking for more money. Even when they screw something up on your computer, they want more money to pay for the repair. They continuously talk about more money. I’ve never seen anything like it. Since then, I’ve talked to a couple of other people who experienced the same thing: Geek Squad wanted more money to fix something that they screwed up.
To be fair, I did come to have a good rapport with one of the part-time supervisors who is excellent, and he’s always there for me when I come into the store. The guy who finally fixed my computer last time was excellent. But what I had to go through in the process was absolutely ridiculous. He was the fifth technician that was sent out. That fiasco took place over the span of two weeks.
When I called their toll-free number yesterday, it was a complete fiasco. I finally was put through to a senior supervisor who repaired my computer remotely while I was on the phone with her. They ended up not charging me because of the fiasco.
They initially talked about repairing remotely with chat only (no phone contact). $150 and no phone contact? WTH?
I could say more, but won’t.

Betty First I am sorry to hear about your health issues. There are a number of Ihearties who are going through some health problems and I hope you can at least find comfort knowing there are those who understand and you are not completely alone. Sometimes it’s hard to find the strength on particularly bad days, but I wish the best for you.
I too am unhappy with the US99.5 DJ’s. I think you might be on to something when you say they may resent that Danny went country. I bet they had that planned all along to ambush him with that question. they just happen to have the tape handy! Danny was taken aback by it and I think was annoyed (well at least as annoyed as he can get, cuz I get the impression Danny doesn’t get that annoyed), but he handled it as best he could. Those DJ’s have not been friendly at all based on my experience with calling in. One DJ acted like he had never heard of Danny. When I told him he had been in the studio, he just kind of blew me off and said I needed to contact the program director to get the song on their playlist. Of course I got no response whatsoever from the program director!

ITunes update: Country- Danny slipped to 3rd (Gary Allan has new album which is now #1). Single is 4th. Overall chart- still #11; which makes me very proud; all the new albums above him are new today except Lady A, which is now #10. He really is hanging in there well with sales, IMO.
Wonder if the Opry will help his sales at all?

I share Maryann’s lunacy…Last night I went to Walmart & couldn’t find any CD. I checked everywhere, I just felt they had to be somewhere. Finally I found his (5)CDs in Lee Greenwood’s slot. Sorry my first thought, some other fanbase maybe did this, possibly didn’t know where to place, so filed it under a G name. Not sure what to think. Can’t wait until he gets his name on his own divider!.
So I rearranged a little put him on the top display shelf with his fellow countrymen, Turner & Shelton…right in the middle so no one would miss his pretty face.
We need to continue to VOTE for the exposure to as many as possible. Once they hear him, they are going to LOVE him, too!

I am happy to report that my Walmart in my little West Virginia town has more of Danny’s cds. Once again, I saw 4 in the new release section. I broke down and bought 2 more and yes I did take the other 2 from the bottom and put them up top at eye level next to Lady A and Susan Boyle. Someone on this site had mentioned that there was a way to tell how many cds were ordered by the store from the information on the cd. Does anyone remember how that worked as I was curious how many the store had ordered?

My family is going through a transition. My 90 year mom and 95 father-in-law, both live alone. We are trying to find a home that will accommodate all of us.I still have three kids at home. I take care of them now, but it has been very hard when I’m divided with three separate households.I get so overwhelmed at times. Been praying God’s will to give us the wisdom to deal with our ailing parents. My mom has done so much for me, I’m the only daughter out of five brothers. My mom wants to live with me. I want to make their days filled with love and family.

Maryann, that might be me you are thinking of, I reported a problem on DGO about a month ago, the one where nested replies (or, a reply posted to a reply) just disappear. NashvilleWyatt replied that he would work on it. Since then I put a couple of more threads to say it still doesn’t work. He removed those threads and it still isn’t fixed. I would be happy if they would even remove the capability to reply to a reply, and just let people reply only to the original post, which is how many sites work anyway.

Hi I-hearties, have been patiently waiting for HDD numbers and just checked the last update was 12:52 with 39.09% reported, according to the list Danny has moved up to 4th, with a power index of 67,278, I am guessing it means the number of copies sold? He is behind Lady A, Sade, and Blake Shelton, and I think he might, just might overtake Blake when all numbers are in. HDD numbers are still an estimation, the exact sales numbers will be provided by Nielson Soundscan tomorrow.

I think 67,278 at 39.09% reporting seems unrealistically high, I am not too familiar with HDD reporting, I am thinking the way the chart should be read may be like this – as of 12:52 Mar 09 and with 39.09% sales already reported, the projected sales for Danny will be 67,278 for the past week.

Okay, this is creepy. I googled Danny, (which is how I get to this site when I’m at work, since I’m obviously not going to bookmark the site). An April 9, 2009 YouTube video of “What Hurts The Most” showed up. The video apparently has a picture of Danny and Sophia on it. There are red blotches all over the picture. I would like to believe that the blotches are intended to be rose petals rather than blood splatters, but I doubt it. The blotches obliterate Danny and Sophia’s faces. Who would do something like that? I think they need to see a shrink.
I have not tried to click on the YouTube video to look at the picture more closely. Could it be contaminated with I virus as well? I hope whoever put the YoTube video up in the first place will notice what happened.
Just checked HDD site again now they indicated the result is FINAL, yes according to HDD Danny sold 67,278 copies, again this is still an estimation, but should be very close to the actual sales that will be reported by Soundscan tomorrow.
That makes Danny the top debut male country artist so far this year. I believe 67,278 is pretty hard for other new male country artist to top this year.

Guys, the only reason I brought up my illness is because it affects my ability to post on heart in a number of ways. I’ll explain a little more, and then I won’t bring it up again.
They call it fibro fog. My brain gets tired. I get mentally confused. Sometimes I can’t get my words, or can’t get the right words, or I suddenly can’t remember the name of a medication that I’ve been taking for years. When responding to a post I sometimes need to copy and paste it into Word Perfect first, because my retention is so bad. Similarly, sometimes in the middle of a conversation I have to ask the person I’m talking to what I was talking about. Hello!! I also have a problem remembering who I said what to. I am unable to write a post responding to many different people in the same post. Just can’t do it, even on a good day. Some days I just need brain rest. Enough said.
Cheryl, Trish Biondo, one of the DJ’s at US99.5 radio station, really likes Danny. She was at Best Buy in Orland Park when Danny was there. I sent her an e-mail at some point when we were trying to get the station to add MBD to their playlist. Her response left me with the impression that her hands were tied.
I had the same experience you did with the other DJ’s. It became pointless to call.
Now they’ve been forced to deal with Danny because of his popularity. I don’t think Danny has anything to worry about anymore.

Franktastic – I think it may be a bigger mileston than that. Bucky Covington had the highest first week sales of a new male country artist since 1992 in 2006 when he sold 61,000. I don’t know if anyone has broken that record. Danny may have the highest debut for a country male artist since 1992. Does anyone know if Bucky’s record was broken between 2006 and now. I asked Brian Mansfield that question a few minutes ago.
I am so proud of Danny and his fans – this is great news.
AND I am happy to see his single is now in the top 30 of Billboard. When Billboard comes out on Thursday, we are going to need screen shots of his single on the chart and his album on the top 200 albums at #4.

Ok, I’m caught up now.
I listened to the US99 interview this morning before work and didn’t think it was that bad. I think this info is out there and is going to bebrought up from time to time. In listening to the DJs they seemed supportive of his position about not knowing what he wanted to do and encourages to explore other music influences later on in his career. I thought they also were offering him some advise not to blow himself out in the early days of trying to succeed and to realise he can’t please everyone. This is very important for new artist as the label does not necessarily have their well-being first and foremost.
The two things I came away with most were that Danny is exhausted, you can hear it in his voice and see it in his body. I hope after this week is done he will get a few days off to recharge his battery or he is going to be in trouble.
The second was the questions from the callers, these were not the nnormal radio call-ins but then this was Chicago , enuff said.
So basically this is one of those interviews that you won’t necessarily listen to again but also will show that in spite of it all Danny’s gonna do great.

For those who are new to HDD, their album building chart is based on Soundscan leaks and a complicated formula that rarely misses. They somtimes overestimate but not to often and tend to slightly more conservative, so their guesstimate of +67,000 should show fairly close to the Soundscan numbers that publish tomorrow(Billboard chart).
Now I believe Danny has sold more than that this week because Soundscann does not count most Christian retailers.

It made laugh because I did the same thing at my local Target last night. I saw 3 MBD CDs in an obscure area by the country section and decided to put them in a strategic place. I moved them to the top portion of the ” new release ” rack. Little did I know that my husband was observing me. He went over to the display rack and told me that I should wear a red shirt and khaki pants so I can go inside the store’s inventory room and take out more CDs. Hmmm, now that’s something to think about.

Hi ihearties, I was back in at a different Target today and they have more of Danny’s CD’s in and did notice that they were at eye level. WalMart has more in as well but last week they had the CD at eye level all along. Makes a difference in marketing, Danny is a new artist they did not know how he would sell guess they do now!
I am really hoping we all are surprised at the total numbers sold for the CD. I truly think being on Idol when he was made people realize he is back BIG time.There are several songs on the CD that can be or should be cross-over I am waiting and hopeful to see how that goes, which would mean more sells. Also believe many were waiting to hear news about Danny and are excited about his new CD and are buying it up.

Lizzy – I don’t know if Bucky’s record was broken between 2006 & now either – I am very happy that Danny topped Bucky’s sales numbers, some people may say Bucky finished 8th and he was not signed by major labels, etc but we all know that albums are not selling what they used to be a few years ago, so as a new male country artist and to surpass Bucky’s numbers it is quite an achievement.
The reason I think it would be very tough for a new male country artist to debut more than Danny’s in 2010, is that Easton Corbin is a new country artist & he’s been pretty popular among country fans and country radio stations, his first single is currently top 10 on country charts, and the song has been charting much longer than Danny’s MBDAAM, his debut album sold 45K, a number that Billboard, when predicting Danny’s album sales, already considered “impressive”.In other words, it’s considered quite a feat for a new male country artist to sell 45K, and 67K is kinda phenomenal.
Dee, I really feel for you and respect your wanting to find a home that will accommodate all of you. Your mom raised a good daughter.
My sister is going through a similar situation right now with both of her in-laws and they are very demanding. She and her husband are also ill themselves. They just placed their oldest son, who is mentally and physically handicapped, into a condo. He needed special training and still needs to be closely monitored. Her other son is married and his wife does not get along with my sister. When her son helps, he does it on the sneak so as not to create problems with his wife.
I have some ideas that may help or be worth considering.
Your family seems more harmonious. If you are going to continue running three households, I hope your husband and kids are actively involved in taking care of your household.
Also, if you don’t have time to relax at some point in your day, it might be a good idea to make time. Even sitting in complete silence for five minutes can help.
If your brothers live close, how about trying to get them involved? If your mom moves in with you, could they take turns taking her for the day now and then? Same thing with your husband’s siblings if he has any who live close. Can they take your father-in-law for the day?
I have not personally gone through what you’re going through. I can only imagine how tough it can be. Manipulating the situations that are within your control in order to conserve physical and mental energy for the ones that aren’t seems like one way of taking the pressure off of you.

“Good recall, LizzyM. I think Bucky’s number is still the highest. As I recall, Darius Rucker had right at 60K and Jason Michael Carroll had 58K for his debut. So, from most indications, it looks like Danny will exceed Bucky’s number.”
I am very happy about the HDD numbers for Danny.
He definitely deserves this for working hard and putting out a good album. I think that the soundscan numbers that come out tomorrow will be close to this.
Nearly 70,000 copies is fantastic–I am very happy for Danny and I’m sure he’s thrilled. Some Allison fans at IDF are grousing about it too–several are bitter that in one week he has outsold what she has sold so far. I think this is far better than any of us anticipated for his first week–and with hardly any national promotion at all. Imagine what he might have sold if he had been given as much national promotion as Kris, Adam or Allison.
Regarding the US99.5 interview, I did not even hear it, but based on what Danip said, I don’t think the topic of conversation was appropriate. Danny is just getting started with his country music career and that should have been the focus. Futhermore, this is not a topic that should be discussed on air with some DJ’s who could care less about his future.
I think some of us who are familiar with this radio station also base our opinion on past situations we came across in our attempts to have US99.5 add MBD to their playlist.

There was an interesting article in my local paper this morning about the “big bucks” awaiting idol contestants. It stated that winners have made at least $1 million in the 1st year after being on the show & finalists have done well, too. One example given was Kris who in the last year has earned at least $650,000.
Danny wasn’t specifically mentioned in the article but my immediate thought was that I would imagine a lot of his money goes to Sophia’s Heart Foundation…rather than keeping it all for himself. That’s our generous Danny.
Well, I have now listened to the US 99.5 interview and I didn’t like it; I didn’t like the DJ’s, but I think Danny handled himself quite well.

Gokeyguy, the article went on to say that what Kris has earned reflects the mimimum that a winner would earn. “Including performance fees and merchandising royalties” from the tour, “as well as other opportunities, winners have never failed to earn less than $1 million” in the year after AI season.

Steph the reason most Christian retail stores don’t report to Soundscan is due to the fact that most are Mom & Pop storefronts. The equipment and inventory reporting is very expensive and the smaller stores can’t handle it. This is the same reasoning why most artists don’t sell their CDs at concert venues. I think that the reason Brian is able to post son Christian sales is due several large chain stores and the online sites like CDbaby and Amazon, which may be why their numbers always seem small.

We knew the claws would be out. There is nothing left the haters can attack him with, other than saying things like the album sucks and America has no taste. Allison fans are pissed too–since she only sold 39K her first week. Kris sold 80K, so Danny is not far behind. The fact he got no national promo while Allison got quite a bit (even as the third wheel of Kradison).
VFTW doesn’t know what to think. They hate it with a white hot passion, but at the same time are happy that he might outsell Adam, because they hate him even more, if anything.
But Danny is getting love on DCO for a change, and most people posting on the AI8 thread there seem happy Danny is doing so well, for a change.

I don’t pay any attention to the haters anymore – they carry no weight whatsoever, Danny’s sales have proven that.
I am just so thrilled that Danny’s sales were good his first week. I hope he doesn’t have too much of a drop next week. His album is still doing pretty well on Itunes – #13 overall and #3 country.
I expect RCA Nashville to put out a press release on Danny’s sales this week.

Hi everyone!
I am very happy with Danny’s first week sales. I know that he could have sold more if only all places had been decently stocked, but that’s water under the bridge. The numbers are still great! I’m very proud of him!
I haven’t had a chance to get caught up with everything. I’ve got some personal things going on right now that have made me quite the nervous wreck, and so hopefully in a few weeks all will be okay and I will be more of a mindset to focus on all things Danny.
I asked my little one (the two year old) to sing MY Best Days in honor of Danny’s first week sales, and she obliged. I didn’t know she knew the words as well as she does. I have a link below for anyone who might like to see it. I kinda like how she adlibs in the middle of it “I get to blow the house away,” and then blows. I don’t know where she got that from, but she does love to watch the video, and she sees the kid blow the candels out…who knows? Anyway, it’s kinda funny.

Keith Urban and Kris Allen, just seems like an odd match to me.
The Country California article was weak in it’s argument. The only real objection the writer had was that Danny wasn’t a traditional/twang singing country singer. But like the commenter Estelle said, neither are a lot of artists who call themselves country artists. Country music has evolved so, accept it.

VickieCarol, the funny thing with that hater article is when I looked up the “About” description to see who the blogger was, it said they write about “modern” country. Huh?
It just seemed to me that person just can’t stand Danny in general, it was written in such a nasty way.
Sunday I was at Target in Columbia, SC (state capital…one of the largest cities in the state), and there was not a Danny cd to be found, and even worse, I couldn’t even find a place where they would have been. So I’m not even sure that they ever had any of his cds in.
And I must say that Danny was a very popular idol in these parts. It’s unfortunate that he wasn’t able to capitalize on his idol performance to the fullest extent, but it’s impressive that he did so well despite the roadblocks.

Well, this speaks volumes about the reaction to this night’s episode of AI — if anyone watched it. No one is talking about AI on iheart.
Yup, that was my reaction, too.
I missed Katie’s performance, so I might have to see whether it’s on the Internet somewhere. Strangely, I kind of liked Lacey tonight. She was my second favorite, behind Crystal.
Maybe I’m the one with ear wax tonight, because it sounded to me like each of the singers had some off notes (including one by Lacey, but I liked the rest of it well enough to forgive her a bad note). I really didn’t get the raving about Didi — found her boring. I felt bad for Paige. I kinda liked the beginning of her song — you could hear the timbre of her voice, although the song was a bit dark and that didn’t match the lyrics. Siobhan really disappointed me — I heard a number of off notes, so now I’m wondering whether she really can sing. Katelynn was ho-hum — not bad, but not showing any range. Lilly was pretty good, but not at her best. If that was Patsy Cline, then Lilly did manage to make ser sound fairly current, as Kara said.
My picks to go home are Katelynn and Didi. I’d like to see Paige stay, but if the judges are any judge, that won’t happen. They really didn’t like the song Paige did.
Tell me again why Simon & Co. think Season 9 has such a good group of girls? *yawn*
BTW, what I am noticing is the inconsistency in the contestants’ performances. Who I like is changing from week to week, based on who performs well in a given week. Contrast that with Danny. Danny wasn’t always perfect, but he was very, very good each and every time he stepped up to the mike. His performances were consistent and memorable. That is the mark of a future star. I’m just really not seeing that in Season 9.

I had really liked Paige before, but she tanked I think. She has a really good voice and always showed such joy I thought, but tonight just didn’t work. I am disappointed. I actually liked Lacey’s performance a lot, but it might have come too late. Crystal was the best by a pretty wide margin, I would say.
Steph, I couldn’t agree more. I saw the AI Season 8 performances on the Internet, and you know what? I still remember many of them. It goes without saying that I remember all of Danny’s performances. But I remember Alexis Grace’s “Jolene,” Megan’s “Put Your Records On,” Adam’s “Mad World,” etc.

Josie, yes, I agree with you. I liked Lacey tonight, but it may have come too late. And Paige is definitely at risk, although I think she has a good voice. But I don’t “get” Paige. I don’t know whether she’s reserved or what. But I feel like her personality isn’t coming across. I think the girls most risk would be Katelynn, Didi, Paige, and Lacey. Although Haeley managed to stick around for longer than Janell, so who really knows? The sad thing is, while I still have my favorites, I won’t be heartbroken no matter who goes home.

Ellen, I have to agree, I don’t feel attached to them either. I did warm up to Paige last week I think mainly because she looked like she was having such a great time while performing, in an unconscious way. I don’t really like it when I can see the gears turning, e.g. “ok, now I’m going to give the camera the sultry eyes”. She seemed like she was just having fun. Not this week though, unfortunately. Maybe I will get more attached to them as time goes on, I don’t know. Last year was the first year I watched, and I liked Danny and Adam right away. I actually liked all of them, come to think of it, although to varying degrees. Just not as interested this year, although it’s still interesting to see what will happen next.

Hiya GG, If you’re still around. My recap is on the front page dated March 6 (three days back). Whew, there has been so much wonderful videos and articles and recaps the past few days, that it got buried fast.
Saw the KNCI for Citrus Heights, CA. for this Thursday. That’s only 1 hour’s drive from me! But it looks like you have to win a ticket from the radio station to go. Looks like a private party. I know exactly where El Toritos is located. Been there once and by there dozens of times.
I tried to call the station, but no one answer. Also put a note on the radio station’s web site, but no answer there either. There were several posts asking if they could get passes to see Danny.
I will have to get up earlier tomorrow morning between 6 and 9 to win tickets. Wish I had known sooner, phooey. There’s going to be a meet and greet, besides a mini concert at the restaurant.
Does anyone know how these kind of things work? Can others go even if they don’t win tickets? Probably not. I guess I’m greedy, since I just saw him last week, but I didn’t get a hug.lol
I STILL like the folks from Season 8, and will give them all a fair listen. I bought Michael Sarver’s “You Are,” and Matt Giraud’s duet with Anna Wilson, “You Don’t Know Me.” Based on the clips I heard, I thought a lot of Kris’ songs sounded alike. Not sure whether, if I heard the album in its entirety, I would like it, but I wasn’t willing to take the risk. I did buy one of Kris’ songs, though, “Is It Over?” I played the clips of Allison’s album. Surprisingly, I like her single, “Friday I’ll Be Over U.” Doesn’t sound like her — it’s bubble-gum music, but catchy bubble-gum music. On a few songs I hear Allison’s trademark voice. The problem I have with her is that she doesn’t enunciate her words well, and I’m hearing-impaired. Megan has really surprised me the most. She has about 5 or 6 original songs now (enough for an EP), and they sound really good. She knows her own voice, and what it can and cannot do.
That’s okay, Marilyn, I didn’t get a Danny hug either.
I’m not sure how I would feel about that anyway. There’s still some East Coast reserve in me. Not that I don’t love to hug and be hugged by people I’m comfortable with. But hugging a stranger? I know we all THINK we know Danny, and we kinda do, in a way, but still . . . (I’m sure I’m in the minority on this one.)

I just watched the girls’ night on AI. I gotta say that the ones that are standing right now can sing. The same can’t be said about the guys, though. The problem with the girls is mainly song choice. I liked Didi (that usually is meh) and Crystal (that usually is good) tonight and Siobhan did a good job but she sounds really nasal for me, like she had a cold or something. The others were kinda forgettable for me. And sorry, but Paige murdered Smile. I love that song, absolutely dig RDJ singing it but her version didn’t do it for me.
Having said that, although they have distinctive voices, none of them stand out for me. I mean, I remember that, last year, I knew Danny’s and Adam’s voices from audition. If I heard them singing, without seeing them, I’d know that it was Danny or that it was Adam. This year, I simply forget their performances as soon as they’re finished.
Ellen, I feel like you do. I feel ho-hum about this year’s possible idols.
Mr. Bing if you’re here, please excuse but I want to say that I saw the video of Adam singing WYWFM on a TV station down under. He had little makeup and (nail polish still) but he looked handsome and the song was good. He was seated on a stool. It was the first time since I first heard him sing, Mad World that I liked anything he did.
I wondered if TPTB have him out of the states until the hullabaloo dies down?
Betty, heard your request for prayer and already you’re in my pipeline to the Lord. I know you’ll be feeling better. And I know you will get to see Danny when you least expect it. Have faith that you will. I felt the same way until last week. So please don’t give up.
Oh Ellen, I used to be reserved and not hug. But since I’ve gotten older (seasoned lol) I’m in for the hugging, if I like someone that is. Erika, the only voice that I might recognize if I heard it out of context is Alex Lambert’s. I’m glad he got to stay around for an extra week. I like his voice. It’s distinctive (to me, at least). But he has NO stage presence, so I’m sure he will be voted off soon.

I used to have a weekly column in the local newspapers and I always did a human interest piece on a local peep. I stopped when I was managing the museum gift shop at the Park near here.
Also, I contributed to a slick magazine that’s local.
Almost finished with a historical Christian romance. Takes place in the gold rush. Pretty much finished but need to tweak the last couple of chapters.
Also have an idea loosely for a sequel, and I need to get busy, I’ve been playing hookey for almost a year. I don’t know why, just quit working.
But doing my recap, I sit up all night doing it. (I rewrite a lot.) I like the term to write is to rewrite. I really liked it and need to get back. Sometimes I think that my love affair with Danny in some ways is like an ostrich sticking it’s head in the sand. I need to get back some with my life.

Glad you are still working and sorry you don’t feel confident that you will be there like maybe next year. That is a very hard spot to be in. A lot of others are facing the same thing, but it doesn’t make it any easier to know that.

I gotta say that if Adam had made an album with songs like the way he sang on Sunrise, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. That’s the way I like his voice, Mad World or Track Of My Tears style. I really dislike the way the album actually is, though, the disco vibe thing.
Gotta go watch Kitchen Nightmares and spend some time with sis.

Like Danny, Adam has the vocal chops to be able to do acoustic versions of his songs and sound good. Not every singer can. But other than that . . . Well, we all know why Danny is special.

I mostly agree, Erika. I like Adam’s CD well enough. It’s good workout music. But I think it’s a sin that someone with his vocal abilities is so overproduced. I know that’s the thing in his genre, but it’s a shame. I can barely hear his voice, which is the real thing that makes him unique. Not the hair or makeup, or controversial statements.
