Hello Gokeyworld! What a morning it has been. Was up really early (5.30 am) in order to be able to catch up with the news and comments on Danny’s performance at AI. The various charts are looking great and I’m over the moon about the buzz Danny created last night.
Danny was like a little kid and SO excited about being back in AI. He has such great energy and aura about him that you just have to love him! I could hear and see that Danny was a bit nervous at the beginning of the performance, but that just made him more adorable. MBDAAOM is an energetic and positive song, so I think it was good that he sang that song.
I do hope that gets an invitation to come back to AI when the show moves to the bigger stage and can then sing one of the more powerful songs, which will totally blow everybody away. Somehow I had a feeling that the stage was a bit too small for him last night.
I can’t wait to hear the sales figures for the first week. I really wish that Danny will show everybody who have doubted his talent.

Yay!! I won a prize! I haven’t won any prize my entire life and now thanks to Danny I won his album twice!!

I’m so happy to see Danny got soooo excited on AI! I think this was the most relaxing moment when he’s on that show. He acted so cute!!
Danny was #2 on Amazon’s overall chart some hours ago, but back to #3 an hour later. I forgot to print my screen…
The response of Danny’s performance was overwhelming on the Chinese AI site! I can’t be more happier to see him gain some new fans for that! I’ll see if I can try to translate some posts.

I think that we should do an email campaign to Ellen to have Danny on her show now that he told her last night he wanted to dance on her show. This is the perfect time for all of us to email her requesting she have him on. She might just do it since she said last night that she was sorry she didn’t have him on last year. Cheryl, can you provide the email address for us?
Danny’s single is still #34 on the 7 day rolling chart and down 20+ spins. Keep requesting because in order to keep his sale going on his album he needs to be heard on the radio.
Also don’t forget to vote on GAC countdown. We have to keep his video in the top 20, especially now.

Just a follow up to the news from last night. Fox6 news is reporting that Danny has signed a 2 year endorsement deal with Wisconsin Vision (a New Berlin, WI based eyewear company). They said this morning that Danny will be filming two commercials for Wisconsin Vision later this month. Hopefully they will have more information posted on their website later http://www.fox6now.com/

I just wanted to say thank you as I see I have won an 8 x 10 photo of Danny. I really appreciate it! I thought Danny was great on Idol last night, he sounded good and his excitement and singing was the highlight of the show, if fact, my opinion, of the season so far. Good for Danny to show the contestants how it is done!
Morning everyone. Just a little tidbit. I went to my local radio station page (WRNS.com) and when you first visit the site what comes up but a wonderful popup for Danny’s CD. Can’t miss it.
Another tidbit. Was wathing the show last night with my daughter. After Danny’s performance she turned to me and knowing that I have met and spoken with Danny a few times she asked “Is he really like that, so bubbly and nice or is that just an act?” I laughed and said he is exactly like that. What you see is what you get. Now I would not say because artist are very different in front of their fans except for the fact Darla, Lori, and I had the unbelievable luck to watch (in hiding) to a soundcheck from Danny and the band in Charlotte. No fans, no audience, and he was the EXACT same bubbly nice person. No act, just a genuine nice person.

So excited about Danny’s rankings; even if they are temporary, its fun to see.
Wonder if he can hit #1 on iTunes overall? Might be difficult with that Movie album, Alice in the way. But hey, I’m not complaining about #2 at all? Who would have ever thought it?
Still down 20+ spins yet still #34 hmmm? Strange. Other songs must be down spins too; wonder why that is this week?
I hope the stores have enough CDs! He’s sure to get increased sales of those after the big bump digitally last night!

Morning, Amy, Trish, VC, Maryann, Hannele and Lulu! Wow, that was quite a night for Danny, wasn’t it? #1 Album on Itunes, wow!
The vast majority of posted comments are loving Danny’s infectious enthusiasm and his performance. I think Ivan had quite a job on his hands getting Danny somewhere close to earth last night. Remember in his interviews how he said Sophia used to help him stay less extreme –more balanced? Well, last night was a night for celebrating–and it just keeps getting “gooder and gooder”!
I keep coming back to his record company doing “right” by Danny. I wondered why they were waiting with the Walmart Sound check on the 3/15–but its all about building and keeping momentum! There’s so many open spots on Danny’s calendar, you know he’s got lots of appearances waiting for him that we won’t know about until they get here.
Its an amazing time in Dannyland. I’m so happy for him. And all of us fans!

One other comment re Danny telling Ellen he wanted to dance on her show. It would be artificial of Danny not to say what’s clearly on his mind last night. He was happy to meet Ellen and he just let the world know it. I find it completely endearing.

The latest helping of garbage regurgitated up by Cantiello, has caused me to loose even more respect for Kris Allen. If he is such a great guy, why would he even participate in such dumpster diving?
Maryann, those unkind people won’t be able to touch Danny anymore, because Danny has such an appeal with his talent and personality, that he is winning over the big masses, who will support his career and enjoy his music. Those unkind people can whine all they want as far as I’m concerned, because whining is all they are capable of doing..

Good morning everyone! First thing I did this morning was run to my PC and check the iTunes ranking. Yes!!!! I agreed with FOGS’ prediction and wasn’t surprised but sure was happy!
What an incredible week for Danny, I am so happy. The hatetard comments don’t even bother me. Actually the more threatening they find Danny, the better I know he is coming across to everyone and not just those of us who love him.
I want to catch up on everything but I need to get prepared for a mtg about the non-profit I’m the treasurer for. I don’t feel like refreshing my memory on last year’s 990, I want to read reviews and look at pretty pictures!

Ok just posted a Discussion Thread on Mtv Portugal’s Facebook account… i asked them to add MBD video and add Danny to their Artist list on their website, i wrote a critic to the album, added a link from Itunes in order to people buy it and confirm that is a fantastic and phenomenal album lol also added a link for MBD video on Youtube. Then i said it was a shame that mtv here just plays Pop and Rock and they should play more music genres… i would like to have said “you should play more music genres than pop and rock besides Taylor Swift” but i thought it could be understood as a rude comment so… lol

There is some hate on an IDF general discussion for season 9 thread, angry teenagers saying Danny was obnoxious and LOLing that Ryan was not being able to stop fast speaking Danny. One of the moderators even ridicules Danny for speaking too fast. Oh, nothing new for IDF. Anyways, I just posted them this:

Danny is one of the rare singers able to express opposite emotions at the same time. In his uplifting songs there is so much elation and wistful sadness, hope and desperation – he is second to none in that respect.
Sure he is excited about his new album. Any singer with a new album should be. I salute him for being able to speak so fast and throw a perfect sales pitch.
And you know, it worked, you can hate him all you want, but right now he’s got #1 on itunes overall albums and #2 on Amazon. I love Danny.

bosman, you’re absolutely right: Danny is wonderfully complex. For example, as we saw last night, he can be both a little boy and a grown man at the same time. It’s why we love him!

Somebody posted it with the lyrics and album photos I guess. I love the song. Love it. It is a “male” song, full of symbols. I would say it is one of my favorites, but really, what’s the point when I cannot find any song that is legging behind. Yesterday I “complained” over the ending in Get Away, today I think it is just perfect as it is. There are just gooder and gooder songs.
Sometimes I wonder what did I do right in my life (I am 35) to enjoy music once again so much. I mean it was sure different in my teenage years, but somehow as I entered adolescence, music just lost is beauty and wonder. Danny brought it all back and then some. I am enjoying beyond belief, it is not even funny.

Ms. Wet Blanket here. I won’t be totally happy (or relieved) until we know Danny’s actually sales numbers. Amazon and iTunes are fluctuating charts. What might get you to number #1 in March, when there may be fewer powerhouse CDs released, may not be enough to get you to #1 in November or December, when there is more competition with releases for holiday shopping, etc. I don’t want to squash the joy — and it is a joyous occasion indeed! Just want to ground everybody a little bit, so that no one is disappointed with whatever the reality may be.
That said, I’m very hopeful that Danny will be a major success and a force to be reckoned with.
Exactly R-squared, and many younger people do not understand those complexities about him, so the path of least resistance is to hate or severely dislike. But, it is their problem now. We all know that hate hurts the hater, so too bad for them to wallow in hate.
rowansmom, I am not sure that Danny will outsell Kradison yet, so I would not yet celebrate on that front. I sure hope I am wrong in my prediction I posted last week. For the first week I said 40K plus 20K if he performs that week on AI.

rowansmom2010 – last night and this morning I was doing the “I told ya so” dance all over the place.
Physical therapy is so much easier now that my therapist blasts MBD every time he sees me walk in. FYI – my physical therapist loved the CD so much when I played it for him that I gave him one of my CDs and he uses it as an anthem for the rest of his patients. Danny’s vision of helping just keeps growing.
Finally watched the AI again. I just love this guy…such good vibes.
Really life is so short…Danny is embracing life to the fullest!
On a side note. I went to Walmart/Sam’s Club/and Best Buy to day. And Walmart did NOT have Danny’s cd on the end cap with the other new artists and in the main bins there were only 4 CDs left (looked like the entire row was dedicated to Danny and only for were left), Sam’s club did not have any available and Best Buy did have it on their new music end cap and there were only 5 CDs left.
As of 1:57 PM Danny’s CD was still #1 in overall Albums on Itunes.

Connie,your physical therapist is a smart person! I’ve been dancing to DAnny’s CD off and on all morning. And yes, it did include some victory movements, LOL. Now have to go run some errands–with my trusty Ipod, of course, more DG to come.
Did the rest of you wake up this morning still “pumped”? It was like I had already had some of Danny’s energy going….even before I had my first cup of coffee.

Hi everyone
Cindy I love the biblical reference to the Hatetards. That is such a good way to look at what is going on with them. I still try my best to avoid the haters (sometimes it can’t be avoided) because my instinct is to defend Danny and try to make them to see what I see, but it is a fruitless effort. It is not worth the time because they will never appreciate or see the talent Danny has nor the fine person he is.
I love that picture of Danny. He is one fine looking man. A number of people in my office commented on how much weight Danny has lost since idol and they thought he looked really good.
The watercooler conversation at the office today was about Danny! Several people said they loved his song and felt it would be a crossover hit! I was so happy to hear that others loved it as much as I do. Obviously I cannot be objective because I love Danny’s music so much and each of his performances is good to me. So, when my husband and some friends called me to tell me they like it and then the people at work said the same thing, it really made me happy for Danny because I think it translates to new fans! YAY!
Some of you might remember I said I wanted Danny to sing IWNSGB or Crazy Not To because I thought they would be better for the kind of audience AI attracts, but I was WRONG! His song went over really well with the audience and the viewers. I have had a huge smile on my face all day long!

Pam, I agree that this was not his best performance, still excellent though. The whole thing was just so amazing. As an interpreter, I have heard so many people in my life, but I always find his speedy speech fascinating. Speech reveals so much. In his case it revealed to me that he is totally uncalculating person. Almost extinct breed these days!
Now I wonder if they will let him perform IWNGS at the end of this season, if they release it as single by that time.
I am overjoyed about one more thing. I like the fact that this album was done in like 2 months, maybe even less time. Because in this manner he was able and was really forced to streamline his essence into the album, without much experimentation.
He will be able to experiment and venture into different corners of the genre in his follow up. I am the only one selfish enough to be excited about Danny’s second album? I know, I am ridiculous.
Also, I now almost think IWNSG should be the last single from this album. Get Away should be the second single. Or even Like That’s a Bad thing.

Hey, ihearties. Those of you who follow me on Twitter have already seen this, but I just lost my job today. After 29 years at 101QFL Radio, I’ve been let go. It’s a financial decision.
I won’t lie, I’ve been shedding some tears today. However, I know God has a plan for my life. This isn’t the end of the world.
I’m planning to go down to Texas for a few weeks to spend time with my loved ones down there, including my mom, my sister, my sons and my darling babies (grandsons) while I lick my wounds and try to seek God’s will for my life.
Corny as it may sound, my daughter just put Danny’s CD on and said, “Mom, this will make you feel better. Danny has such a positive spirit!”
And you know what, it IS making me feel better. If Danny can survive losing his beloved wife, I can survive losing a job. I share his faith.
If you’re a praying person, send up a prayer for direction and guidance for me. Meantime, I choose to believe that MY BEST DAYS ARE AHEAD OF ME!!!

Gokeyguy I don’t think we are ready to see Danny in a cowboy hat. It would look like he was trying to hard to be a country boy. I think he should remain true to who he is – A midwestern down to earth guy, who wears hats, but not cowboy hats! You never see guys in Wisconsin wear cowboy hats! (unless they orginally lived in the southwest). I do like the idea of Danny going without glasses for at least very small snippets in one of his videos. I love the little surprise of seeing him without glasses once in a while. I like that he wears glasses most of the time, but I doubt he wears them to bed, so it’s okay if he takes them off to show off his beautiful eyes occasionally!

Gokeyguy I hope I didn’t make it sound like I didn’t like Danny’s performance! It gave me the chills too! I jumped up and down and screamed after hearing it because it was good. I really was just trying to make the point that all of us have heard almost every videotaped performance and we are able to hear all the differenct nuances and sometimes we will hear one performance in particular and we know he nailed it with absolutely no flaws. I think in last night’s performance his excitement and nervousness showed a little, but was not evident to those who were hearing it for the first time!
Oh, Cindy, I am so, so sorry! I will definitely add you to my prayer list. I regularly pray for the unemployed and underemployed. I constantly feel as if I’m just one step away from that. In fact, just last night I had a dream (or perhaps more accurately, a nightmare) about that. This is the worst I’ve seen the economy since the 1970s, when we had all that inflation.
Cindy, I will definitely pray that God will guide you onto a new path.
The timing sucks, too (not that there is ever a good time for something like that). But you should be feeling joy at Danny’s success, and now that joy is tempered with real life worries.

GGuy, here’s what I think about the 18 wheeler and Danny. Yes, we all need to see him in one cruising down the highway. Maybe it could be the opening scene for Get Away. Then as he gets the boss screaming in his face, (while in a warehouse) he can punch out from the timeclock and jump into the convertible, throw his baseball/trucker hat out the window and speed down (or up)the coast of an ocean, large lake or river, wind streaming through his hair. They have to keep cutting this song with real footage from Danny singing it at a concert. But, I’m sure a good writer/director will make us all go WOW on this one.

After reading the lyrics to “Get Away,” I have to agree with the idea suggested by Jannikas for a video concept for that song. That way we get both the 18-wheeler AND the convertible. Although would a truck driver be able to afford a convertible? Maybe a lovingly reconstructed Mustang from the 1960s?
I think there has to be a convertible in “Get Away.” But even if there is no 18-wheeler in the video for THAT song, we WILL see Danny behind the wheel of a big rig at some point in the future. It would be foolish for his label to ignore one of the things that legitimately connects Danny to his country audience.
Sorry, GG, no cowboy hat for Danny. Hate-tards would have a field day with that. But I can see Danny site-seeing and trying on a cowboy hat in a store, or being dragged onto the dance floor of a country bar and borrowing someone’s hat.
You don’t have to be from the south or talk with a twang to wear a cowboy hat, but there are parts of the country where they are not common — particularly the Northeast and Midwest.
The one thing that depresses me about American men is that they don’t dance, as a rule. BUT . . . They WILL dance to country music, as long as they can wear their cowboy boots and hats. All of those guys tend to wear cowboy hats, but they are not necessarily from the south, nor do they necessarily speak with a southern accent.
I can really see Danny wearing cowboy boots, though. But a cowboy hat? No, and no again!
Claudia, That was Danny’s message today while talking to Ryan on the radio show. Don’t just sit back and wait for someone to do something. Have a plan and do it.

and i won’t be sitting here waiting! here Country isn’t very known, but that’s due to Media, MTV plays most of the time Pop/dance and Rock songs, the radio stations follows mostly MTV’s choice the radio rarely plays Country it’s like in 100 songs one is from Carrie or Taylor, and they are just playing those 2 because they know in the USA they have success and they are in the top of the charts… that’s why i was asking if MTV there plays MBD video, because if they did maybe our Mtv would start playing the video too. It is going to be really interesting to see how Danny’s album sales are on Tuesday. The latest update from HDD for the weekend still has Danny predicted to sell 45 to 50 thousand along with 4 other artists with the same prediction. According to HDD, Lady will be #1, Sade #2, Blake Shelton #3, Almost Alice #4 and then Danny and 4 other artists tied. I am hoping that HDD underestimated the bump from AI and he ends up in the #5 spot, but either way he should end up in the top 10.
It is so much fun seeing his album #1 on the overall Itunes chart and #2 on Amazon. Savor this moment Danny fans.

I know this is not a popular opinion, but I’d really love to see Danny in a cowboy hat. IMO There is something incredibly sexy about a man’s man. No metro-sexual nonsense for me. I like real men.

Maryann, I agree with your “man’s man” comment. I think they come across as most confident though when they’re in their own element. Makes me think about my first gay friend, who was a really gorgeous man, and very masculine in his appearance and demeanor. He was the one who dragged me to that line dancing thing I mentioned awhile back, and he put on a cowboy hat for that. With his appearance it should have looked great but it was just so funny! It just didn’t “fit”. I think Danny will always be most attractive in things that he feels most comfortable in, I guess that could be a cowboy hat if he really gets into the horse thing!

That article about Danny and Kent Blazy had me in tears too–which have been on the surface all day. The emotions are overwhelming. Whenever I think about what Danny came from–and now he is the bestselling recording artist in the country–I start tearing up again. We did it, guys!
Danny’s interview with Ryan was so cute. He is very childlike, everything on the surface. The hate-tards say he has no filter–and maybe he doesn’t–Like That’s a Bad Thing! It’s a very good thing if you ask me.
I don’t blame him for being so wired. He’s elated and ecstatic and can’t contain himself. Danny has never been good at hiding what he feels anyway and this is no exception. Who could blame him for feeling that way? He’s on top of the world right now. He deserves all of it.
I Still Believe is really growing on me. It’s actually becoming one of my favorites. Kara has written a very good song for Danny. I could see this–and most of the other songs–being hits.
I stopped in Target on the way home and asked how Danny’s album was selling. The clerk told me they were sold out and couldn’t meet the demand. I wonder if this is the case everywhere. I do think physical sales will be even higher than iTunes sales, as country fans tend to like to buy physical records than digital downloads.
At MJs I found these comments from people who used to be Danny haters. Sometimes it’s better to join than to keep resisting.
“I was a team player on the “put the Go in Gokey” team last year, but, for some unknown reason I am loving me some Gokey now. He just takes such joy in the opportunities that he has had and his voice shows it. p.s. same thing happened to me with Melinda Dolittle who made on kickin CD.”
“Congrats to Danny! that is just freaking awesome that he hit #1. He deserves it and obviously is overjoyed with every opportunity that has come his way. I love his voice and wish him nothing but the best. I am a Kris fan and I am so buying Danny’s cd.”

Yes, it’s confirmed he will be on Ellen but no date yet. Danny said so himself, but I can’t remember where I saw that. There’s been so much news, it’s hard to keep track of it all. This sure makes up for all those months with no news.
This guy is going to be huge. Especially once he starts touring with the enormously popular Sugarland. That was the key to Daughtry’s success (touring with a huge act ), Danny is approaching Daughtry-level success.
My ex–a horrible music snob who never liked country or much music that’s too commercial or popular (his taste runs to hard classic rock, punk and metal) really likes Danny. He said he has one of the best recording voices he ever heard and thinks this is a well made record. For what it’s worth, he liked David Cook (he actually started watching Idol last year because of him) but thought his album was overproduced and not that well made.

Interesting at mj’s as some people are speculating Danny could sell over 100k CDs his first week. That seems more than a bit high in the current climate, but would certainly be a happy story. It did strike me in one of the articles today that they refer to Sony hoping to see Danny as the highest male debut. I wonder if that is including Blake Shelton’s EP? If so, Sony must have a lot of confidence in Danny but I hope they aren’t putting too much pressure on him.

I am glad that Danny said he got booked on Ellen. I saw someone at another side wondering if he should have mentioned that he wanted to be on Ellen’s show. But I am glad that he did, Danny is such a go getter.
And I noticed last night how his personality just filled the whole AI stage. And he seemed really comfortable performing as well.
A friend of mine called me on her cell. (I’m still at work.) So I’m telling her about Danny’s album dropping (she knows I’m obsessed), and how we’re not happy about the bricks and mortar stores not having many copies. She said, “I’m at Wal-Mart right now. They have three copies. Do you want me to buy them for you?”
Steph I think that Sony might be expecting Danny to have the highest debut album of a country male artist or maybe overall male artist. I don’t think they are including Blake, because he has had mulitple albums.
About the HDD sales, I do believe that Danny can at least sell within the range they predicted. They do have access to different sources and tools and their predictions for him didn’t change.
Even though their predictions for people like Jason DeRulo and Easton Corbin went up. But I don’t think that they factored in his AI appearance into their estimate, so maybe he could sell more than they predicted. I hope he does sell at least 45,000 albums.

FOGS, you’re right about his personality filling up the whole stage. I loved how excited and enthusiastic he was. When I read that LA Times article this morning, I tweeted him to “scold” him a little bit for regretting anything about his appearance. It’s funny, I “talk” to him on twitter sometimes as if I know him, and of course he wouldn’t know me if he tripped over me. But I imagine he is used to that by now. I really do like that about him though, it’s really charming I think. I hope he is on Ellen soon, I think she will have fun with him and will really like him.
Josie I thought that Danny’s enthusiasm was really cute. I know some of the haters didn’t like it, but I thought that he was sweet on AI last night.

Suz,Yes, it`s always strange how we can be so happy about something,but it becomes SO overpowering,we start crying-I, too, found plenty to be emotional about in that article you mentioned-and, for me,something happened, that was SO WEIRD- it gave me chills- too much to go into here- It sounds like the Milgokey girls are already having a great time! Some haterish comments popping up on TWOP–but they seem so lame and toothless in the face of all the positive remarks (thanks so much for getting the ball rolling on this and turning things around, FOGS). The negative comments seem petty and clearly arise from resentment over Danny’s success.

I think it’s so great that Danny hit #1 on iTunes and has two singles charting pretty high. He’s worked hard, this year has been like boot camp for him, and now he’s reaping the rewards of his hard work, dedication and belief in himself–in the face of all those who insisted it couldn’t be done, no one wanted to sign him, and he would be a dismal failure. Danny is having the last laugh.
I think Danny did a good job last night. He definitely has star power–that stage seemed way too small for his larger than life personality and charisma. It was nice seeing him come “home” to Idol–and he was clearly tickled pink to be there. Danny reminds me of a little kid sometimes–maybe he doesn’t have a filter–Like That’s a Bad Thing! He was elated and high on his sudden success and being back “home” where it all started for him, and the emotion just bubbled out of him. Danny has never been very good at hiding what he’s feeling but that’s part of his charm. He just blurts out whatever he’s thinking. He hides nothing. I suppose you could criticize him for his “immaturity” or a tendency to be annoying (and I have to admit it might be hard to live with someone as intense and in your face as Danny), but for a celebrity, I find it refreshing that he just blurts out whatever. He really can’t get the words out fast enough. Some haters speculated he might have been on something–I think he’s just high on life right now.
I can’t say I blame Danny for his bubbliness right now. He’s on top of the world, all his dreams are coming true. Like his grief during his audition, his enthusiasm is just as contagious.
I predicted a long time ago that Danny would wind up being the most successful season 8 idol, and now it looks like it could actually happen (no disrespect to Kris or Adam meant). I think he may approach Daughtry’s level of success fairly soon, once he starts touring with Sugarland. Touring with big acts like Bon Jovi was the key to Daughtry’s success, and I think things might work that way for Danny too.
Oh, and Danny has said (sorry, I don’t have a link right now) that Ellen has invited him to be on her show, but no date is set yet.
Congratulations, Danny. You deserve everything happening to you right now. You earned it.

I’ve noticed that after Danny’s interviews are over that most all of the interviewers say something like, such a sweet, sweet guy and if they are female interviewers they always pat Danny on the knee. The guys just say “he’s such a nice guy”, with no pat on the knee. Ha. I just know that those females really want to reach up and grab Danny and give him a big hug. I bet he doesn’t even realize that. Although, after the cameras are turned off Danny probably gives the ladies a hug anyway.

Pam, great post on mj’s. It hasn’t been too bad I don’t think, considering how well Danny is doing and how provoking that must be to some. A few jealous/threatened people, but that was far outweighed by nice posters taking the time to say something supportive. I thought it was so sweet of Truthiness to say that she likes Danny because she likes us. I like her too. For non-mj people, she is the Adam fan I’ve mentioned before who is always throwing fits about how much she hates Adam’s outfits, and she does it in a very humorous way.
I think the folks from Wisconsin will be missing in action tomorrow . . .

Enjoyed that Tony & Kris radio interview. Danny mentions at one point how odd he finds it when people try to tell him he can’t succeed, and he won’t let them kill his dreams. Howard Benson anyone? At least as quoted to Danny by Michael S in that first Idolatry interview. When I read the article with Howard’s actual comments, he said nice things about Danny’s vocal talents but was hedging primarily about a genre fit being difficult.

It looks like the author of that article Melinda Newman does have a connection to Billboard. I read that she used to be the West Coast Chief Bureau for Billboard magazine. So she probably does have sources about how artists are going to rank next week.

My heart is really warmed by all the nice comments about my job situation here. You all are the sweetest!
I can’t say I was totally shocked by being let go…I’ve kind of been prepared for it ever since our stations were sold back in May to the company that owns K-Love. I was let go for financial reasons.
Honestly, about a week ago I told my husband I wanted to quit. I loved my job, but there were several factors about the situation that I was extremely unhappy with. He counseled me to stay and see what happened. Well, this happened. I believe God is orchestrating the whole thing. Yes, I’m sad and worried, but I also truly believe God’s in control.
I still do have my regular voice-over jobs, and I’m going to be working on expanding my voice-over career.
Funny though, Danny’s great success this week has actually helped me get through a rough day! I was watching his video from his interview with Ryan Seacrest, and he said something about when something bad happens to you, it’s all about what you do with it. Danny’s story, which is so familiar to me by now, of rising out of tragedy, is now inspiring ME in my difficult time! Wow.

I thought it was interesting that the sfgate article said 23.5 million viewers watched AI on Thursday. I don’t know if those are official numbers, but on the day BOTH Allison and Kris were on the viewer count was 17.5 million. It seems to show that there was more interest in seeing Danny than there was in seeing Kris AND Allison. OR, I guess it’s possible that lots of people were watching the Olympics last Thursday and chose not to watch Idol.

I meant to tell you earlier, I am sorry to hear about your job loss. But Danny has showed us all, when one door closes another one opens. Better things on the horizon. Believe it.

I am very happy that Danny’s album is still #1 on itunes top album (all genres), and I am sure the important people in the country music industry have taken note!
If I remember correctly Danny is the first idol from S8 so far that has an album ranked #1 on Itunes, Adam had a #1 rank on Amazon when his album was available for pre-order but he has never reached #1 on itunes. Neither has Kris.
Even though Billboard predicts Danny’s album will be ranked #5 in sales, I am still wondering if that prediction was based on the one day sales on Tuesday, as I have a problem in understanding Blake’s album is predicted to sell more than Danny’s especially after Danny’s jump in rankings after his AI appearance. Perhaps they have info on Blake outselling Danny in physical CD copies?
Anyway, if the prediction is correct, Danny will have a #1 debut album in country music in 2010 (up to March) when the numbers are out next week. Lady A. and Blake Shelton may have higher sales numbers but Need You Now and Hillbilly Bones are not their first album. And I don’t think there’s been any country debut album in 2010 has a sales number coming close to Danny’s 45K-50K. Again Lady A’s Need You Now sold almost 500K first week but NYN is not their first album. Will there be a bigger country debut after March in 2010? No one can say for sure but I think it’s unlikely.
Franktastic – hello! Good point about Blake and Lady A. They would be expected to have higher sales figures since they have been around longer. Danny does appear poised to be the highest country debut album so far this year. Granted it is still early in the year but I think the AI appearance coming in his release week was brilliant. He will definitely be the one to beat for newcomers.
One follow up item to what I posted Tuesday and Wednesday about cd availability at Target in Milwaukee. I did not go back to that same Target but decided to try Walmart instead. They had MBD displayed on the end with all the other new releases. Danny had 4 slots with only about a dozen cd’s left (probably started with close to 50). My daughter called me from a Target she was at and said they had two cd’s left. So, it looks like we are getting them in the stores, they are just selling like hotcakes! Like that’s a bad thing? Not!

Cindy I think it is interesting how Danny can be such and inspiration at the right time. I have a friend who called me last night after Danny’s performance, she had never hear the song before and she said she was in tears watching it yet it brought so much joy to her. She recently got divorced and she had back surgery. She had been in pain both emotionally and physically for a long time. She is recovering from the surgery and just yesterday she was able to go for a walk for the first time since the surgery. As she was walking she said she felt better than she ever did and vowed she was going to do all the things that she had been holding back from doing because of the divorce and the back problems she had to endure. She walked into the house just in time to watch Danny sing. She said she felt like she was supposed to hear that song at just that time and she was so thankful to have heard Danny singing My Best Days Are Ahead Of Me. She couldn’t believe the timing of it and she thought if Danny could go through what he went through and feel such joy, she could too.
Also, as you know, Ron lost his job some time back and is in New Orleans volunteering. After listening to Danny last night he called me and said he really liked the song because it’s message was a reminder to him that his best days are yet to come too.
So, I think it is good to hear the kinds of songs Danny sings -songs with a message. It does give you hope and belief in the possibilities that lie ahead. The songs make you think about where you have been and where you might go. Obviously they don’t solve our problems, but they can make us think and make us feel good about ourselves.

I am also expecting a nice jump of Danny’s single MBDAAM on Billboard’s Country Music Chart next week. MBDAAM is ranked 31 on Billboard Country Chart this week, but since Billboard charts take into account both radio play AND single sales, and singles are sold mostly digital these days so Itunes charts are a good reflection of how many singles are sold, and Danny’s single has been pretty high on itunes country rankings last 2 days, so I am pretty confident his single will be well within Billboard’s Top 30 Country songs next week.

I want to wish everyone going to see Danny tomorrow in Milwaukee to have a great time, I am sure you all will. I have thought about flying to Milwaukee to see him live, however, when I checked the venue (that has a capacity of 900?) and there’s no pre-sale tickets so there’s no guarantee I could get in, I decided to wait. I did see him at AI concert, but it would be a treat to be able to see him up close & in a smaller setting.

Thanks for that interesting article. I’m not surprised Danny had to take some moments to grieve while recording IWNSBG in the studio. That reminds me of the story I heard about David Cook recording Permanent in the studio. I remember he said there was one time he had to leave the room and went in the hallway to call his father and cried for ten minutes.
