Danny’s single is still #34 and down 20+ spins on the 7 day rolling chart but I think it will go on the plus side this weekend when he is back on the countdown charts.
Looks like his album
dropped a spot or two on the overall Itunes chart to #6 and to #3 in country behind Lady A and Easton Corbin. Although Easton Corbin’s is a debut album also, he has a single in the top 5 on the country charts. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that after Danny performs tonight he is #1 on both charts on Itunes.

I just checked Apple-iTunes chart and that one showed that Danny’s album was #1 ahead of Easton Corbin and Lady Antebellum. Why are these chart ratings showing us different positions?
I checked another chart and there Danny’s album has moved up to #2 just behind L.Antebellum, Easton Corbin is #3.On overall album chart he is now #5. Danny still has 3 songs in top 100 country singles.

I think that the highest that “My Best Days” got on Itunes was early 200′s. The highest I saw it get was #207 on Itunes. It will be interesting to see if “I still Believe” can make it into the Top 200 songs on Itunes.

So excited for tonight. Let’s just hope he does great, because we know there is a huge amount of viewers out there that loved Danny and have no idea what happened to him.

Good morning everyone. Interesting that Danny just tweeted that he is going to perform “a song off my new album”. Hmm. I wonder why he said that instead of “my single”. I think he has said that before (that it would be his single), but maybe he has changed his mind. I love “My Best Days are Ahead of Me” and think that’s still likely, but “Crazy Not To” would be an interesting choice. That would pretty much hit the primary AI demographic right between the eyes, I think. Casey who?
I am so looking forward to seeing Danny on the show tonight. For the first time this season, I’m actually interested in the results as well, at least a little anyway. I would be disappointed to see Paige get voted off. I like her. I am going to guess that Lacey and Didi will go. I think Haley should go, she’s not ready for this yet. But I think people will vote for her because of her personality, at least for awhile. For the boys, as I said the other day I liked Big Mike and Lee’s performances, and am guessing that John Park and Jermaine will probably go.
Had a chance to catch up on last nights comments. If I am understanding this right…
I should focus my efforts on voting for Danny daily at GAC, and as many times as I can manage at the CMT 12 Pack, but not the CMT Top 20, because fan voting doesn’t really count?
Danny’s projected one week sales figures for his debut (if they are true) put him way up there in terms of country artist sales?
Also, looked over some of the tweets. Don’t recall seeing this event at the Rodeo Club listed under the events. I like the idea of Danny surprising people. Creates such a stir, when an artists sets up at local bars and small town clubs to put on an impromptu concert.

I like the picture of Danny in front of the White House. Maybe he’ll perform there one day.
Tonight’s the big night. I’m excited but with him only singing one song, I know that it’s going to go by way to quick and I’m going to be wanting more.
If Danny is going to be meeting the idols backstage, that’s great! They will all fall in love with him after meeting him. Those lucky Idol contestants.

CNT would be the perfect choice given the audience, because it is has universal appeal and is middle of the road, with regard to its country flavor. Would change things up to, since many are already familiar with the single.

Maryann, I am going to assume that voting on the CMT Top 20 is not completely w/o value, because it does show interest. And I am still hoping that someone who has watched the show may be able to give us some insight as to what they say about voting on the show. But based on the info from the site, I am assuming that it’s more important to do the GAC and 12 Pack since we know for a fact that the votes decide what videos are on the show.

In my itunes there’s no Top Country Album!! Only Top Songs and Top Albums… so i didn’t know!
Josie I had originally thought that Danny should and might sing his single “My Best Days”. But now after seeing that it looks like he might be more of an album seller as opposed to a single seller, I think that he might be able to get more album sales if he sings “I will not say good-bye”.
Because I think that he could do more vocally with that song than “My Best Days”.
And that he might impress people more with that song than “My Best Days.” But I would definitely understand if he did “My Best Days” because that is his single.
And a performance of that on AI will get him more sales for that song and hopefully a nice amount of sales for his album.
FOGS that makes perfect sense about MBD being sung on the Idol stage to boost his sales of the whole album. Danny did actually come out and say that he was singing that song. So it had probably been decided a while back to sing that one. I would love to hear him sing I Will Not Say Goodbye also.

Just a question, no where on his myspace or official does it mention his April 9 in Tampa? Do you think it is confirmed yet! Tickets are suppose to go on sale Friday?

“Graham, if you wanted to disguise a personal slam, based on who you think Danny and his fans are, as an actual music review, you should have gone to get a manicure so that you could do a little research and then focus on the task at hand. Gokey Delivers Spontaneous Performance for the University of Alabama Women’s Basketball Team.
With his debut album, My Best Days, released yesterday, 19 Recordings/RCA Nashville artist Danny Gokey is crossing the country in support of his album, and tomorrow, he’ll make a welcome return to the American Idol stage for a performance of his irresistible single, “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me.”
Yesterday, Gokey celebrated his album release in and around Atlanta, GA, where a day of TV, radio, and an in-store appearance was capped by an impromptu performance for the University of Alabama women’s basketball team. Members of the team, in town for an SEC tournament game, spotted Danny dining in the same restaurant and asked if he might sing for them. In good-natured style, and with the blessing of restaurant management and fellow diners, Danny’s band grabbed their gear and delivered a performance and autographs on the spot.
In addition to his American Idol performance tomorrow, fans can be on the lookout for Danny in non-restaurant settings in the days to come, including a Thursday CD signing at Barnes & Noble’s The Grove location at 7:30 PM in Los Angeles, and on Friday, Gokey will offer a performance and CD signing at the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN, at 6 PM.

Josie, I like Paige Miles as well…I actually thought she did a terrific job with that Kelly Clarkson song. The judges are so random sometimes.
I hope Didi Benami doesn’t go home. She made a wrong song choice, but the judges just shredded her…my heart went out to her. She might get some sympathy votes!

Cindy, I felt very sorry for Didi too. Once the judges have said “sorry but that didn’t work”, I don’t see why they have to grind someone’s face into the dirt. She was about to lose it but I’m glad she held on. I like her voice and she’s a pretty girl, but she may not be connecting well. My husband took a dislike to her and hopes she is voted off. He disliked Katelyn last week, but liked her last night. I don’t dislike any of them but Paige is the only one that I have actually warmed up to beyond just general goodwill, I think. His predictions are almost the same as mine, except he thinks Haeley will be voted off vs. Lacey.
My comments to the reviewer (in Edmonton)? The one that DEE and JOSIE responded to? Anyway, here’s mine:

“I’m thinking maybe you’ve got an ear wax problem, or have Mr. Gokey’s album mixed up with another Idol album. Bland? Don’t get that. Indistinctive? Are you referring to the amazing variety of song types on the album? Uptempo and ballad, country/rock/R&B/gospel — nothing boring here. This is a solid debut album. B+. Oh, and did I forget to mention those amazing vocals! Whiskey smooth.”

Please don’t post cuts without a spoiler alert. Opinions, yes. No warning needed. Cuts, no. Please don’t post without a warning. So far I’ve been able to avoid Suz’s posts (and a few others), about who were going to be in the top 24. I really don’t want to know who is going home until I watch the show. (Otherwise, why bother watching if I already know the outcome?) That is why I avoid this site after 5:00 p.m. PT (8:00 p.m. ET), on days when Idol airs. I figure any comments folks make at that time are fair game.

Ellen, Dialidol isn’t really definitive info about cuts, it’s more like a clue. You could still get a surprise! I seem to recall that it had Kris being voted off a time or two last year. If I recall correctly, it measures busy signals associated with each contestant’s phone lines, and it does not include text votes, which are increasingly a factor. My understanding is that Dialidol was very accurate in the earlier years, but it’s considered a clue at best now. I don’t think that sites like mj’s consider it a spoiler, and there will likely be pages of discussion there about who is likely to get the most text votes (usually assumed to be the “cute boy” contestants who tween girls go crazy over). I don’t know if this site has a policy about what is considered spoiler info or not. I don’t pay all that much attention to dialidol. But tonight I wish they’d just read the results in the first minute or two, and then give the rest of the time to Danny.
I read your answer to that review, he was kind of asking for snarky responses, wasn’t he. I am not snarky to reviewers who appear to have made a good faith effort and have an honest difference of opinion, but I think this guy had just decided that he didn’t like Danny because he thinks he knows all about who he is, and didn’t even give the album a chance. I don’t know why it still surprises me to see such low journalistic standards sometimes.

I’m really enjoying my “My Best Days” CDs. I keep one in the car, one in my laptop and one in the BR. Love to listen to Danny while taking a shower and while driving. I don’t have to ever be without Danny ever again. Yea!

Well, while I am waiting for the amazon order to come (don’t have itunes) I found all Danny’s album songs on youtube and of course I listened to all of them.
I expected more form the ending in Get Away, I kinda hoped they would modulate his voice there. Yes, I like Danny the best naturally unprocessed and raw, but they could have sharpened it up there a notch. Still, one of my best songs, if not the best though. Its just that the studio ending seems kinda too on the rough side compared to that live performance from Nola’s. But I understand if they modulated it too much, then it would have lost something else.
Crazy not too is way cool and Pam is right it is honey and butter.
I am surprised how much I like Be somebody and I Still Believe.
That note on lIIIIveee and looove in Like That’s a Bad Thing is the defining moment of the album. The moment when Danny goes inside out. The depth and the height is just overwhelming.
Random question: Is there anyone else here (besides me) who likes Tim Urban better than Kris Allen? I did not watch the girls yet.

I really like the chorus to Like That’s a Bad Thing too. I bet he could make a really cool video for that song.
Josie, I may have been snarky, but I really don’t understand what the reviewer meant by “indistinctive.” If he meant that the song types are all over the place, that’s a fair criticism. I don’t agree with it, but it would be fair. I’ve seen a lot of reviewers criticize artists (Idol and nonIdol alike) because they felt the artists had too much variety in their song choice. (Presumably the criticism is that the artist isn’t defining themselves properly.) I assume that those reviewers like “theme” albums that set a mood. Something like Billy Joel’s “An Innocent Man.” I like both types of albums — theme and variety. There’s an Ambrosia album, e.g., that has these progressive rock songs on it, along with Top 40 pop ballads. Quite a contrast, but I like both song types.

through the posts re Danny’s tweet . I’d really like him to sing IWNSG or CNT tonight but after hearing him last night at Best Buy, I prefer that he’ll sing MBD tonight because he sounded hoarse last night. I think MBD is easier for him. After his performance, he was told by a lady (I’m not sure who that was) to rest his voice and not talk during Meet & Greet. But we all know how he loves to talk so still did. But whatever he sings tonight I hope he’ll kill it so viewers will be reminded that though he may not have won the title last year, he is the real American Idol.

I think when he used the word indistinctive, he was saying that there was nothing about it that drew his attention away from his dirty fingernails. He was just being snotty.

No, no, Ellen, I am not disappointed. I am sure I will get used to the “rough n tough” ending in Get Away, it’s just that I thought it could have had a bit more funk.
Songs on this album are so superb that I am really spoiled. If I am not mistaken – rough n tough is kind of a country music trademark, so I know I am way off base in my funky expectations. There is not much funk in country music now is there.

I think Tim has far more passion, soul and heart compared to captain cupcake.
Among the guys, this week as the last I liked Lee the best, despite him being awful pitchy, more so than last week. But he is able to mask it with his great gritty voice.
But other guys are demonstrating some great qualities now, somehow I cannot jump on Lee’s bandwagon yet.

Hi Helio! I only got to go to Best Buy but not Rodeo Club. I believe Marilyn went only to Rodeo Club so I was not able to meet her. Hopefully that will happen next time.
I’m still on cloud 9 after seeing Danny last night. You are all correct, Danny has that glow in him that is very visible when you see him up close. I am in awe of his beautiful masculineness ( if that’s even a word). That’s how I would describe him: beautiful yet very masculine. My whole family (yes, even my 9 & 8 year old kids) is raving how great he sounds eventhough his voice was hoarse last night.
Ellen B. if you are still on, found some info about the lack of Danny’s CD in some stores or area’s. I stopped at a Best Buy today it is what they call a small store, they had zero CD’s left. The young guy said what happens is RCA decides how many goes to who. Like to Best Buy, Walmart what ever store, RCA sends so many to the warehouse, at the warehouse they decided how to disperse them according to the size of the store. By the way they are sold they then order more from RCA. RCA pick up demand and sends out another shipment. All of this will soon be gone……because of digital coming in this is all going to change from the record company point of view. Which means there will not much of CD’s in stores at all. Which is hard for me to believe now that I think of the other bigger stores that sell large quantities of albums evan here in Omaha.
Side note our son said soon much of music will be on line. downloads etc.music in stores is really being hit hard. So guess it is going to change big time. Artists will turn out two albums a year instead of one every two years. The new type of Cd’s will have five songs on it, sing those, tour those then make another. Matt said song writers will be in demand unless you can write your own. I believe I heard Danny say he has been writing his own lately…..makes sense. He is getting ready for his next album now!
The kid told me that the Best Buy in Lincoln, Ne tries to get in talent. So I called the store talked with the manager, they said they are nearly sold out of Danny’s CD. They did get a lions share because they are a big store and carry a large selections of CD’s She did not know of Danny coming to there store. They did have Kelly in to perform and Carrie made a stop. She said it is hard for them to get in the Idols because of the cost for them. But, still very much interested in Danny’s radio tour which they did not know about and the up coming store tours. She is going to talk to the management team that brings in bands, they do a lot of local support for area bands.
Think this explains some things, now off to go vote and wait for tonight I am so looking forward to seeing Danny back on TV.

Avid AI watchers will remember that Danny Gokey, last year’s third place finisher, scored well with the judges when he performed Rascal Flatts’ WHTM. Still, it comes as a surprise that Gokey — who possessed the blue-eyed soul voice of a Michael Bolton or a Michael McDonald — would go country on his debut album. This genre is just not a natural fit for him as it’s been for other Idol alums like Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler. But a good singer is a good singer, and Gokey remains one despite sounding like a stranger in Nashville.

BOYS’ NIGHT:
Best performances: Michael Lynche and Lee Dewyze. Best vocals: Alex Lambert and Andrew Garcia. Most improved: Tim Urban. Most disappointing: Casey James and Aaron Kelly. Most likely to get voted off: Jermaine Sellers and John Park.
Comments: Jermaine is likeable, but there is nothing special about his vocals. Ditto John Parks, who sings well but doesn’t emote. Tim Urban was markedly improved, but I still don’t think he has what it takes. He also risks going home. (Although I’m kinda glad he made it as far as he did, after Simon’s snarky, “We made the right cloice the first time” comment.) Likewise, if Casey James doesn’t step it up, he’s going to risk losing his chance. His guitar playing was great, but his vocals were mediocre. (Sorry, Casey, cuteness only gets you so far.) I like Todrick, but didn’t love what he did to Tina Turner’s song. He could go too. I still think Aaron Kelly has mad vocals, but didn’t think “My Girl” was a good song for him, although I’m not sure why not. But I hope he sticks around. If Michael Lynch can consistently pull off performances like that James Brown song, then I think he will be in the top 5 or 6 of the men — whatever the cut is for the finalists. I really, really like Alex Lambert’s voice. It’s the only one that resonates with me. I find it memorable. I am so glad voters gave him a second chance. It is such a shame that he has no stage presence. But I still hope he sticks around. I also like Andrew Garcia’s voice, although his performance was a bit lacking in some way. But notice that they are comparing Andrew to Andrew (his “Straight Up” performance, in which he set the bar high — for himself). I hope Andrew sticks around, because I still think he has potential. Lee gave a great, passionate performance, but his vocals were pitchy and inconsistent. And his voice doesn’t move me. Still, he’s talented and needs to stick around.

Haeley needs more time to develop as both a person and a singer. I do think she might be able to do country rock, as she wants to — eventually. She really should have gotten voted off last week, after that awful rendition of a Beatles song. Still can’t believe voters voted off Janell instead. Lacey isn’t horrible, but she can’t sing as well as she thinks. There’s no range. She should go too. After Didi massacred one of my all-time favorite songs — “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers — I wouldn’t be surprised if she got booted. But from past performances, I do think she’s more talented than Haeley or Lacey. So hopefully she will still stick around. But if folks game the system with Haeley, then she’s at risk. Michelle Delamour is a good singer, so I’m not sure why she isn’t impressing me more. Ditto Katelyn. I liked her piano playing, but there is no “wow.” I thought Megan Joy did a better job with “Put Your Records On” last year than Katie Stevens did. Katie still has mad vocals, and I think she did a credible job. I’m rooting for her, but song choice is going to be especially crucial for her. I didn’t understand last week why the judges liked Paige Miles so much. This week I understand. I saw an incremental improvement. She’s got the pipes, she just needs to let more of her personality comes across. Could be a dark horse. Siobhan Magnus — really liked her performance, and the “note.” She’s quirky. Heard her voice described as “thin,” and maybe it is — but I sure didn’t notice. I can only say I liked what I heard. Another dark horse. Crystal picked a good song and did a great job with it. I truly do not see, though, how she is so head and shoulders above the rest, as Simon claims. But she’s definitely a frontrunner. I liked Lilly better than Crystal (although I liked Crystal, too, and also Siobhan). I thought Lilly managed to straddle that “change-the-song-but-not-too-much” line pretty well. Not sure why I like Lilly better. Maybe Crystal’s personality put me off a bit? Another frontrunner.
I still don’t think the girls are “so much better” than the boys. Maybe I’m biased, but I’m finding some of the boys more interesting and memorable.
My favorite voice so far is Alex Lambert (although I don’t think he is going to go that far).
Josie, no! I didn’t take your comment as critical at all. Guess I didn’t express myself well. I was admitting to being snarky. (But, sorry! Ear wax would explain why the reviewer thought the songs were “indisinctive.” LOL!) At the same time, I was admitting that “indistinctive” could have been a fair criticism, depending on what he meant by that. As I said, I’ve seen a lot of albums criticized when there is too much variety on them.

About Idol have watched some here and there truthfully it is not good, something is just missing and Ryan last night looked worn. It is just off…..I said last year they are not going to have a year like season 8 again.! Really there is very little talent with these kids,maybe 2, three tops. I don’t know if they are stressed I don’t know…something does not feel right. Like spark, personalities, sharpness in the singing, there delivery, lacking a lot. Should not really say as I have only watched 3 of the guys and 3 of the girls….??? Sorry, do not want to sound so bad, I cannot compare it to last year and that is what I am doing, Sorry
Rachel, no, I have not heard of them. But there are so many of them out there. I think the “trying to get ahold of you for 4 months” is a ploy. It’s obviously not true. You definitely need to verify if they’re legit. Some of these companies are local, but a lot are national. Not sure how to check on them. Maybe try calling from a different phone that has caller-ID blocking, or maybe a pay phone, and ask them to verify their bona fides. (If it’s an 800 number, caller-ID blocking may not work, so a pay phone may be best.) Not sure whether this helps any.

Here’s my 2 cents worth on AI9.
Females I like Crystal and Siobhan and Lilly. All three are a bit quirky and different than anything we’ve seen on Idol. Crystal is a bit like Kelly Clarkson – both have just a natural raw vocal talent and I think they can sing any genre. I think Crystal and Kelly Clarkson are the female equivelant to Danny. Danny can sing almost anything because he has a that same raw natural singing ability. Katelyn and Paige have some potential – song selection will be key for them.
Males I like Lee, Andrew and Michael. Jury is still out on Casey. He was one of my early favs, but I have a feeling he will struggle with some genres. Michael could potentially have some of the same struggles – for him he has to pick the right song. Lee has mad vocals. He does not seem comfortable yet, but as time goes on I think he will become more and more comfortable on the stage and I think he will shine. Andrew’s vocals are beautiful. I feel bad because the judges and everyone else is comparing each of his performances to the Straight Up performance, and it’s hard to imagine him coming up with something to equal that.
Who will go tonight, girls: Haeley, Didi or Lacey
Guys: Jermaine, John or Toddrick.
Well after I heard all the girls, albeit on youtube, I am disappointed big time.
There was not a single performance I liked. I thought Siobhan had some terrible parts in her song and the narrow screaming bought back the horror memories of Mr. screeching bore-drill from last year. The fact that she sang Aretha did not help at all because I feel Aretha was one of the most pompous and indulgent voices ever. /sorry, just my thoughts on her voice/
I thought Michelle will do something with the song I dislike so much, being last week fairly good with the song I hate, she did not. Katelyn was mediocre at best, yet the best for me. At least she put me too sleep. Crystal just gives me a bad vibe. Others do not warrant any comment.
Now I can finally say – last year was so much better. This season is a train wreck.
Seriously now, I think Danny really raised the bar so high that singers whom I would considered ok 2 years ago now seem so ridiculous. After tonight, the anticlimax sets in.
I am annoyed by the fact that, if I am not mistaken, Survivor is at the same time, so some people who regularly watch AI could miss Danny because of that.

Sharon, I think you are right in your analysis about future trends, however, I believe physical CD will be here for quite some time yet. They are irreplaceable gifts for certain occasions/holidays and that will slow down their quick disappearance.

I believe that most people in general prefer physical CDs to digital albums, and that is why the bulk of albums sales are physical albums.
I think that Danny is getting a boost on Amazon, because more people are learning about his album. I do believe there is buzz around this album. And hopefully if he can sell within the range that HDD predicted there will be more buzz around it.

I showed some of Danny’s recent pictures from the photoshoot for his CD to some ladies at work and they were shocked about how cute Danny is. I looked at them like they were crazy because he has been cute since the moment I first laid eyes on him! They were diggin him and I told them to make sure to watch Idol because he would be singing. Hope they like his song enough to buy his CD. Although they are not country fans. When I told them his CD is country/soul, they kind of wrinkled up their noses and looked disappointed and didn’t say too much. I might have to buy some of them his CD. If it’s at no cost to them they will take it and hopefully like what they hear. How could they not?

Hello all….excited to watch Danny on AI tonight. Of course, without a doubt, he’ll be the best singer there!! Sure we all agree with that! As far as songs go, I wonder if there has been a change. You know recently he announced that his second single will be IWNSG. So maybe he’ll be giving that song some promotion. Will be interesting to see. I too wondered why his tweet stated “I’ll be singing a song off my new album”.

Thanks for the info from the guy who works at Best Buy in your area. If what he said is true that RCA is in control of what is shipped then I think the HDD predictions are going to be accurate. I suspect that RCA has a very good handle on how many CD’s Danny is going to sell his first week and both HDD and Billboard have predicted that he will sell between 45,000 to 50,000. I would think that RCA wouldn’t want that info put out if it wasn’t close to what he is going to sell, especially the article from Billboard. Billboard said that Danny SHOULD be the 2d highest debut and SHOULD be in the top 10. I wanted to report that I went to the post exchange on a military base in my area to check if Danny’s CD was there. I knew that if it was there it would be everywhere and yes MBD was prominently placed in the new releases section. I also checked out one of my local targets and his CD was there as well but only two CD’s left. Of course I had to pick up another copy. Everytime I go to check I pick up another copy – I need to stop that lol. I am very excited about tonight and I think Danny will sing My Best Days Are Ahead of Me. I wouldn’t read too much into his tweet. I think he phrased in that way so he could mention his new album again. I love that Danny is not afraid to promote himself and I loved the story about how bold he was when he spontaneously performed in the restuarant for the basketball team.

Maybe you thought you were listening to Danny Gokey’s CD, but accidentally played someone elses while you were busy doing your nails. Bland and indistinctive? What’s bland and indistinctive is when an album’s songs sound so much the same that you can’t tell when one song ends and the next one begins. You will not find that on this CD. The CD has a blend of country, soul, gospel, pop and rock – uptempo, slow ballads, funky beats all sung with the natural soulful voice Danny was known for on American Idol. I have yet to hear anyone in country sing with as much soulfulness as Danny Gokey (Charles Kelley comes closest). Some of the songs on this CD, namely Crazy Not to and I Will Not Say Goodbye have crossover hit written all over them. Do yourself a favor, when you finish cleaning your nails take another listen – and make sure you have the correct CD in your player this time! A solid B+

Very busy day today. Checking in quickly; So happy to visit MJs and see some new commenters say they like Danny’s album. Plus some non-uber fans either defending him or ignoring haters like Niall (‘our 10-20 Danny fans on the internet ‘ buddy). He had to weigh in with a stupid nasty comment about his sales. So obviously grasping at whatever he can.

I think it is possible that some of these reviewers had certain expectations of Danny and because he didn’t give them what they expected, they write negative reviews. I think they fall in a couple of categories. There are those who thought Danny would go soul/pop and hearing his country album disappoints them because they either don’t like country that much or they like Danny when he was singing r&b/soul. Then there are those who I consider haters from the beginning who insist Danny can’t do anything other than Gospel/Christian music and their fervent hope is that Danny fails at doing anything outside of the that genre (I even notice some of them refuse to describe what Danny does as Gospel), so that they can say they were right. I notice many of them call this album Christian music, which it is not! It absolutely has inspirational songs, but by no means is it a Christian album. I have come to realize that people who review music are almost never objective in their reviews. They bring their own biases in about either the genre of music or the individual artist. If we were writing reviews of Danny we all would have some difficulty being objective, and that’s okay, because we are fans and not professional writers. But I would like to see and expect some objectivity when it comes to professional writers. that person in Edmonton is not a professional because if you notice he didn’t even mention any of the songs and threw them all together as if they were not distinct from each other. And who could EVER imagine someone like Michael Sleaze-ak or Wendy Pastorek writing a fair review of Danny? Going forward, I will ALWAYS be skeptical of reviews of various artists and their music. I must also say, the opposite is true, some of these reviewers have favorites who can do not wrong in their eyes – I won’t name names, but I just did a couple of sentences back!

Cheryl, I think you are right. I think that is what happened with the People Magazine review. They were not expecting country from Danny (although goodness knows, Danny announced it a while ago), so they wanted something more along the lines of what he did on AI.
It’s a bit like the AI judges comparing recent performances by Andrew with his performance of “Straight Up.” Reviewers are comparing country Danny to AI Danny, which is not a fair comparison. They should review the album on its own merits, and in the genre that it is in.

He was so happy to see Ryan, and the panel, he mentioned that he just met Ellen –wants to dance with her and be on her show. She said he sounded fantastic and they were passing him through. More soon

When I watched it live, I was a little nervous to see him and of course, know his performing that song so well, any little difference kind of pops out. He sounded good though, and certainly had a lot more energy in his performance than either Kris or Allison last week.
Watching it back on DVR, he sounded really pretty good through the song, I don’t think a casual viewer would have picked up any issues especially as Danny got into the middle and end of the song.
They probably would notice how ueber-chatty he was with Ryan, though it was cute

Hey, all you Danny Gokey fans can celebrate. Danny did great and even though he couldn’t shut up, you could see it was because he was so excited and happy to be where he was. This should definitely get a lot of people that were rooting for him last year to go look for his album.
I’m not one of them and winced while he talked about how country music influenced him when he was younger…cause I remember all the interviews he did where he said country wasn’t him at all. I would have preferred him to discuss having a change of heart once he really started listening to it than say this stuff. But, whatever. I know it won’t matter to those that loved him to begin with.
Either way, it’s good to see him happy….but the dude needs to lose the stache
I thought Danny was cute and did a good job. I don’t know if he wanted to do country music, but if a great opportunity presented itself I think most people would jump on it. I think he will be great at country music and he’s right – it’s about telling stories.
The best performance of the night actually belonged to Danny Gokey. Really reminded me what a great voice this guy has as well as his stage presence. Just went and ordered his CD.

ihearties, had to come on to see what you all thought about Idol tonight. I thought Danny had a nervous energy. Think he was so excited to let people know he is not that widow guy anymore! That comment still bugs me…. My husband chuckled well he got everything he wanted to get in and evan snagged Ellen to come on her show and dance with her! I thought that was so funny…good for him. I am concerned tho he needs a rest his sweet eyes looked tired to me, guess I sound like a MOM.

Just got home a while ago from seeing Danny at Club Rodeo in San Jose. Yep. Saw Danny sing last night and I am still so happy and trilled. And Guess what? Yessss, my husband is now a Danny convert. Yay. Before he wouldn’t even listen to him, he would walk out of the room. Wouldn’t listen when I tried to speak about Danny either.
He said after wards last night, “That guy sure can sing. He has an awesome voice. Also, he said,”He sure must have loved his wife.” Danny share his story about Sophia.
On the four hour drive home today we listened to Danny’s CD most of it. Converts to Danny one at a time haha.
I was glad to see at least a couple of people on mjs that said that because of Danny’s performance/energy tonight they decided to go and buy his CD. There is some hate going on in the elimination thread on mjs tonight regarding Danny, but I think that will die down after tomorrow.
An exciting American Idol night, thanks to Danny. Now back to boring. My opinion anyway.

So this was a really exciting night for Danny and he was beaming from ear to ear. He is on his way to major stardom.
Its a very happy feeling. I have a plan to make a special fans video for Danny on Saturday as we stand in line at Turner Hall and I am hoping that he will see it before the concert. Once we upload the video to YT we will need your help getting the message out to him and all to look for the video. Lets hope that my plan works since I do not know exactly what or how things will go but we will be in touch. Jan and I will give the go ahead when it is ready for viewing. It is probably going to be one crazy day. Looking forward to sharing with everyone what we experience by taking a lot of videos which I am sure the iheart site will be bombarded with videos. OMG I have been getting phone calls from my husband, from friends, co-workers who saw Danny performing MBDAAOM for the first time and they ALL loved it!

Danny looked adorably hot! He was so joyful and you could tell he loved being there. He seemed nervous to me and I think because I have seen him on videos singing that song live so manh times I have come to recognize when he is nervous. All my friends said they could not tell.

It is amazing what a good performance on AI can do. I think it was better for him to come on early before there have been any good performances by the current Idol group. Cheryl, I thought that was great that Danny talked to Ellen on live television about him appearing on her show. I haven’t been happy with Ellen because he was never asked to be on her show. I also did some tweeting and emailed her show about Danny. It didn’t do any good and I never received any response.
Ihearties, I’m finally listening to my very own copy of “My Best Days”! What with my sickness, etc, I wasn’t able to get it till today. They were sold out at Target…they hadn’t gotten it in yet at Wal-Mart (!?)…finally got it at Best Buy, where there were six or seven copies.
My husband, who teases me unmercifully about my fangirlness toward Danny, was actually VERY impressed with the CD. My 23 year old daughter loves it (Tiny Life is her favorite), and my 27 year old son says he could imagine several of the songs being hits.
After watching Danny on Idol tonight, my husband said, “He did great! He acts like a star!”
I understand how so many of you, after listening to the finished, hard-copy product, have said you’re so proud of Danny. So am I. I feel like he’s my child or something…like I have some sort of stake in his success. What a cool feeling!

I’m not a big Danny fan, but I think he was very comfortable on stage and was enthusiastic. He felt the words of the song and did a good job with the delivery. He certainly got a bit of promotion in there- good for him.

Cindy, I know what you mean, I think we all feel like we had a stake in his success. In a way, we did. Some of us or even mos of us knew him when no one knew who he was, when he was just a grieving widower with a great voice who decided to try out for American Idol.

Marilyn, I’m so happy for you that you husband has gone 180 degrees and is now a fan/appreciative of Danny’s talent. What a difference it is to have that support. Hearing Danny sing in person is just so moving.
When I called my husband at work last night (he works 11PM to 7AM) after he got off the phone, his work partner asked if that was “Mrs. Gokey”. Doesn’t appear there was a huge spike in Danny’s OS traffic after AI aired out west. I think maybe, because east coasters are going to bed as west coasters see the show so it cancels out? Also I’ve been getting a feel Danny’s fan demographics may be more heavily concentrated in the southeast, possibly explaining the pattern of radio tour locations we’ve seen where they circle around a lot in NC, SC, TN, etc. and then hit one or two high points in some other states.

Marilyn – yeah just like that! overnight Danny is a superstar and i wouldn’t be surprise if he debut on the billboard as high as the Top 5 cuz hey, the response is phenomenal and people are sick and tired of the other albums of S8 that are just weird and a carbon copy of other artists! his performance tonight was so amazing. i think ‘mbdaaom’ is an easy song to sing but tonight on AI danny just stepped up so much and hit all those high notes so effortlessly, i was like ‘wow!’ i was completely blown away by his awesome performance <3

But the highlight of the night was Danny Gokey. Last season’s number three is looking and sounding a lot more polished. His energetic performance of “My Best Days Are Ahead Of Me” from his debut album reminded America that Gokey is here to stay. His voice sounded amazing and the new track focuses on the power of positive thinking – definitely something that the world needs right now.
Gokey’s performance showed he is definitely headed in a pop/country direction, following in the footsteps of former Idol Carrie Underwood. He must have taken last season’s guest judge Randy Travis’ advice to heart.
Okay, I paid attention to details, and you know how wordy I am. Will try not to make it too dull (my too much detail). It was so much fun, I’m still excited. I don’t want to make anyone who hasn’t seen Danny in person sad, like I felt sometimes before, because I truly never thought I would get to see him close up.

Marilyn, are you still around? Can you tell me what your experience was like when you saw Danny? (It doesn’t have to be now — anytime in the next few days is fine.) I’m trying to figure out what I should (and should not) expect at Bushwhackers. Was the venue a country bar, or something different? Was it for charity, or sponsored by a radio station? What was it like inside? How did things go? I need details, girlfriend!
But that’s okay. I’ll give you time to recuperate first! And congrats on converting your hubbie! We can now officially add him to the “cool husbands list” here on iheart!

Oh, also something that I forgot to comment. Ellen’s answer to Danny tonight aligns with what he said after he was voted off when asked why he wasn’t on many talk shows after elimination. Schedule conflicts, with him having to rehearse for the finale and the taping of the talk shows going on break at the time. Afterwards, when they came back from break, he was in Milwaukee already and AI was over. I remember that, back then, he said he was happy to go home instead of doing the round of talk shows.
Never mind, GG! Looks like it’s March 21st, only a few days after Danny will be in Oregon. He’s sure traveling around!

Haters complaining about Danny being chatty is the best confirmation that he looked, sounded and acted superb.
Of course he will speak about his album. I really applaud Danny for being able in 60 seconds to fully explain how and why he is in country genre. Superb job.

Erika, I can’t send my recap by email. I don’t know why. It asks me questions I don’t know how to answer. Can I send it as a regular post?
My husband Bill and I drove down to the Rodeo Club in San Jose, CA, listened to Danny sing, stayed overnight and drove home the next day.
That’s the crux of it, but oh, in between those words lays a whole lot of living that was indecisive, scary, worried, bewildered, aggravating and marvelous, exhilarating, wonderful and fun.
When I found out at this site that Danny was going to be in San Jose, my heart started pounding because it’s just a few hours drive to San Jose and I knew it would be doable. I wanted to go so badly to see Danny. But I knew Bill would never let me go alone to the club/bar or drive that far and come back early in the morning.
Also it would be costly because of gas, meals, motel, entrance fees etc. So I wrestled with the problems and made sure I was certain I wanted to go before mentioning it to him. Thinking that Danny is on the edge of shooting to the moon in stardom, I thought I may not get another chance to see him up close and as inexpensively since I’m in northern California and he’s seldom in my area.
So, my first problem: get Bill to take me.
So many times he comes into my computer room when I’m reading this blog with little pictures of Danny on most posts. Of course, I don’t try to hide, but he has been very negative about Danny and I think it’s because I spend time on all things Danny.
He thought I was half-crazy already, I guess, because I was so gaga over Danny. He once said to me, “What’s happened to you? You were never like this over a singer before.” And he walks out of the room when I try to get him to listen to Danny. He’s not mean or hateful about it, he’s just been not interested. But in my heart I knew if he just gave Danny a fair chance, he would love him too.
How could I get Bill to go? Then out of the blue I thought of a way that would be hard for him to say no to me. “Honey our 51st wedding anniversary is coming up in a month and I would like for you to take me to see Danny Gokey sing in San Jose for a present.”
He laughed at me. And said, “You’re serious, thats what you want me to do? Okay, if you’re sure that’s what you really want.”
I was so thrilled. What with Danny’s album dropping Tuesday and my getting to see him Wednesday, I was so happy. It all seemed so perfect.
Wednesday the 3rd arrived and I packed an overnight bag and off we went—in a SNOW STORM. We had planned to leave at noon but left earlier before the snow could get any deeper. By the time we left there was two – three inches on the road and it was building up fast.
It only snows a few times a year normally in these Sierra Nevada foothills at the 2700 foot elevation, but this year, like everywhere else, we’ve gotten more than our share.
We were driving the F150 Ford Pickup with no 4-wheel drive and just hoping that the snow would stop once we dropped down the mountain to a lower elevation.
So we crept down the two-lane mountain road that curves back and forth and around then drops from 2800 to 1400 in about 5 miles. I was beginning to think I was foolish to insist we still go with the weather conditions. This wasn’t going to be the fun trip I had envisioned. At one point I said, “I’m sorry, let’s go back home.” But he ignored me determined to get me to hear Danny and sure enough, as we got lower in elevation the snow turned into rain and I breathed a huge sigh of relief.
Things were looking up. But about 3/4 of the way, the heavens opened and rain poured in buckets, then hail filled the freeway lanes so that at one point Bill said, “I don’t know if I’m even in my own lane.” I wanted him to pull over and wait, but nope, he kept going.
As we got closer to San Jose, Mapquest had us to take a off ramp that didn’t work and I had to hop out and get directions and later it was raining so hard that I couldn’t read the signs.
Then again, Mapquest no longer was working for us and we pulled off the freeway on another off ramp and I called the motel that I had booked just that morning. They gave us directions. But told us to turn left instead of right and it was another 15 or 20 minutes before I called again and found out the motel clerk had made a mistake. We finally arived. A nice comfortable place, thank the Lord.
Anyway we rested up a couple of hours and a few minutes after 7:00 left for the Club in downtown San Jose and–can you believe it? Got lost. It was only about 5 or 6 miles away, but it took us 40 minutes to get there in heavy traffic, still raining.
Had to take two different freeways, and go west and then we were in the wrong lane and had to go with the traffic and make the few mile loop again to get back to where we could turn off again. Whew! Was all this worth it I was wondering? I sure hoped so.
We were both frustrated, out of sorts, tired and arguing by the time we drove into the club’s parking lot, but got happier as we parked and went inside and put it all aside. (We really need to get a GPS.)lol
Inside, the Rodeo Club is a cavernous western-style bar with several large dance floors, loud music with line dancing, and a couple of stages, sponsored by KNTY San Jose Radio Station. Drinks $7.75 each. To someone that no longer clubs, I thought that was high, but not to those in the know, I’m sure.
Good thing I brought my coat because it was cold inside. I loosely counted the people, around 200. Young adults filled the club mostly wearing T-shirts, blue jeans and boots. Women outnumbered the men, 2/3rd’s females, 1/3 males. All excited to be hearing Danny. We found 2 seats at a small table and sat facing the stage where Danny was to sing.
Bill generously suggested I go join the women and a few men already standing near the stage, so I could see Danny better. I really wanted to go upfront but didn’t want to leave him alone and glad he was happy for me to go.
So I introduced myself to the girls already staking out their places at the stage. I was hoping one of them would be Nina. I meant to take her phone number with me, but in the rush to leave home left it next to my computer so I couldn’t call her.
The loud music practically drowned our my voice as I introduced myself to the fans around the stage and asked their names. I thought I was going nuts when it sounded like the women kept saying their names were Stephanie. When I double checked, three out of the four nearby weoman were named Stephanie. I introduced all the Stephanies to each other and we had a good laugh over me thinking I was hearing things. They were all really nice and so excited to get to hear Danny.
They were Danny fangirls, but had never visited any web sites and didn’t know much about what Danny had been doing since Idol. Just knew he had a new CD that we all received when we paid at the door.
Soon after, the band came out to set up. Brandon and Ivan wore matching T-shirts with some kind of large design on it, but Brandon had a silver cross on a chain around his neck. Greg sported a button up shirt with short sleeves. Blue jeans with shredded material around the knees, and Brandons blue jeans had tears around the knees. Ivan’s dark-blue jeans looked new.
He wore a brown leather jacket before they started playing.
I spoke to Brandon and told him I thought his wife sounded good with Danny and I thought she was very pretty. He smiled and agreed, of course, and said thank you.
I told Ivan that I was from the Iheart Danny site and had driven several hours to see them and he was so sweet. He took my hand and thanked me for coming. About this time, Gregg brought out 6 plastic waters for the band and set two next to where Danny would be singing.
And I was right in front of where Danny would soon sing, up against the stage. Yup, exactly in front of the long mike stand and stool. What a great spot. I was very pleased with myself.haha (Actually there was a 2 1/2-foot wide box that boomed out beats in front of me where I layed my camera and my cd. But if I wanted to, I could have reached over and touched Danny. I would never do that of course. Would have been fun though.
The guys set up and left, then a club person came out and put in more light blubs and fixed a spot light on Danny’s area. And still no Danny.
The Rodeo Club’s web site stated Danny was to Sing at 9:00. However 9:00 came and went and the fan next to me said that Danny had said at Best Buy that day that he would be singing about 9:30. It was past 9:30 when it went though the crowd to tweet Danny and tell him to come out that we were waiting. I looked around and the room was filled with people standing, maybe 300 or more.
Then the band came back, picked up their guitars got ready to play and we waited a couple of minutes then our Danny hurried out wearing a huge smile amidst thunderous applause, whistles, and yells. I finally stuck my fingers in my ears and laughed because it was too loud.
Danny: Thinner than he looks in the videos. I would describe him as slender, about 5′ 9′. Not certain because I was looking up at him on a 3 foot high from the floor stage. He might wear a size 31″ waist medium sized hands, long fingers, well buffed fingernails. His beard looks brown and he does have a flawless complexion. If he was tired, he didn’t look it. He wore new-looking dark denim jeans with orange stiching down the side seams and on the back pockets desings in the same thread. I think I’ve seen him wear them before in videos.
His medium grey short-sleeved henley of fine knit was unbuttoned the first two buttons that showed-off his silver medallion. But also he had a longer silver chain around his neck with something hanging on it, looked purplely-blue, couldn’t tell what it was. At first I thought it was a ring on a chain, but that wasn’t it. He also had a bracelet in the same color He had two bracelets on the right hand. The other hand he wore a black leather strap that was maybe three inches wide and had what looked like diamonds in a small cross design (or it could have been Austrian crystals) very white and sparkley. Really attractive.
When he was singing and raised his arms I glimpsed a belt buckle, but his shirt covered it. He wore black suede boots that looked very soft and not very high heeled. Maybe a size 9 shoe I’d guess. He had on a rich-tan leather jacket that he took off half-way through his songs to the screams from the women.
(I just looked at the San Jose Best Buy video after I wrote all this description and you can see how he was dressed on that video. I believe Danny likes to take his coat off during his performances. That cute and harmless gesture always brings out the screams of the women and he is so darling as he grins when he does it. Or on second thought, he puts so much of his energy into his singing, he probably gets too warm. Maybe both things.)
I could see the hair on Danny’s arms, light colored and not heavy. His brown hair has a lot of red in it and was spiked and he looked so adorable. His glasses were the ones with wide black sides with desings, but I couldn’t tell what they were. I could even see Danny’s teeth when he sang and they looked really good. I wondered if they had filed down his eye-teeth even more. I don’t know. I couldn’t see any chest hair or tattoo peeking out from his shirt.
He was so happy that he had a good crowd. He said, “Hi”, and right away they started with MBDAAOM and when he got loud squeels from the girls he looked over at Brandon and he raised his eyebrows at him twice and brandon smiled back at him. I always wondered if there was any interaction between Brandon and Danny, because Brandon always looks so stoic (even bored) in videos. But they telegraphed looks back and forth to each other. They are on the same page, I could tell.
After the first song, Danny said, “Tonight I’m just going to sing songs off of my new CD.”
But after a couple of songs and ear-deafening applause and screams, he started telling us that we were the best crowd they ever had! I thought, well, maybe he’s just saying that, but Danny is so truthfull, I don’t really think so.
He also said that today at Best Buy his voice was tired and cracking. He laughed and make a croaking sound to show us. He said to us, “You have so energized me with your great acceptance and appreciation that my voice is good tonight. He said when you are like this, you energize us too. His voice never cracked once and he sounded so marvelous.
At one point he looked straight into my eyes just for an instant as he was singing. You know what? He really saw me and might remember me if he saw me again. I think he has that ability, not that I’m memorable.
Oh, if he only knew how closely I was scoping him out.lol I was trying to remember every little detail. I took pictures, but I don’t think they came out, I havn’t checked yet, but the shutter speed was really slow. I should have been doing it manually for low light. I couldn’t think how to do that though and I wanted to take Danny all in, live in the moment.
So Danny decided to sing “Back at One” even though he hadn’t planned to. He and Brandon kept exchanging looks, like “Hey, this is a fun crowd, I like this.” And when Danny asked if anyone was in love, the girl next to me yelled, “Yeah, with you!” and Danny looked over at Brandon and laughed. And Danny had us singing. He likes the crowd to sing and then he likes to harmonize with us. He did the same thing with WHTM.
Again he told us that we were one of the best crowds they ever played to. Everytime he said something, everyone applauded and yelled. Everyone was so into him and his songs and his band. It was crazy fun. I clapped in time to the music and sang all the songs too and bopped my head and kept time with my feet. His wide voice just soared through us, over us and surrounded us strongly, filling every nook and corner of the club. I forgot where I was in the wonder of hearing Danny sing and when he announced he was singing “Crazy Not To,” I said too loudly in the lull before the song, “Oh, I love that song!” The people around me looked and me in amusement and I blushed and said ,”Did I say that out loud?” I just forgot myself.
A while later Danny said again, “When you’re like this, ( so appreciative) it makes me want to sing my little face off.” haha He seemed so happy to be entertaining us.
A couple of times he motioned with his hands to have brandon hold a note longer, just for fun. Danny was all about entertaining us as well as singing. He has great showmanship and is so friendly on stage.
The girls next to me kept putting out their hand to Danny as he sang and finally he started holding our hands momentarily. I say ours, ’cause I held up my hand and as he held my hand, I squeezed his quickly like I would a friend. To me, he is.lol
The same fangirl held both arms out to him too and Danny started laughing again and said something like, she likes me. It was funny. You know how a toddler lifts thier arms to you when they want you to pick them up and hold them? That’s what she kept doing until she finally wore the joke out and quit doing it. A couple of times I checked in back of me and all around and everyone was clapping and singing and moving to the music.
When he sang GA and held that high note, the crowd applauded and screamed in approval. Everytime he did a riff, we applauded. Someone in the crowd made a heart sign with his hands and Danny made one back. I tried it too, but Danny never looked at me, so I gave up. Later he said, No he wasn’t making the heart sign for Lenscrafters on AI, but his wife’s heart foundation.
He sang every song on his album, and the other two I mentioned. He told about proposing to Sophia in some detail and how surprised she was and he made it funny and laughed as he told it. He later told everyone about Sophia’s Heart Foundation and how he felt not ever wanting to say goodbye before he sang the last song, IWNSG.
When he introdurced his band, he told us again that he was trying to steal Brandon’s wife away from Carrie. Brandon mumbled a comment like thats okay or fine with me. Danny said she and Brandon were awesome.
After IWNSG , his last song, we begged him to sing more songs but he said he had to save his voice to sing at AI tomorrow night. So after we told him how much we loved him (the noise was deafening even more than before) he and the band left, meanwhile we were still applauding and suddenly Danny ran back up on the stage and said, “I’ll sing MBDAAOM again and then I really have to go.”
So the guys picked up their guitars and Danny sang and started pointing at us and singing, “Your best days are ahead of you. If you keep getting better, you can be whatever you want to be.” Finally, he thanked us for coming to see him and said he wanted to be sure and come back because we were such fun and then they left again for real.
The band came back to pick up their instruments and talked to us. Gregg thought that Danny was going to come back out to sign CDs, but Ivan told me that Danny needed to rest before AI tomorrow, so I left.
But I saw a large group of women rushing out the door to follow Danny. I suddently felt sorry for Danny, being tired and having us wanting more of him than he had in him to give. I don’t know what happened next with Danny. I found my husband enjoying himself, chatting to the couple next to him and too many drinks in him to drive. We stayed awhile longer then I drove to the motel, stopping for a snack at Burger King that was next to our motel.
The next day, the rain quit and a watery sunshine shone on us and we enjoyed the green hills and flowering trees as we headed home with Danny’s CD playing and I loved, “Get Away” as we drove along. And Bill and I for the first time discussed some of the things Danny had said.
Bill thinks he’s one of the best singers he’s ever heard in his life. “He sure can sing! Awesome voice.” And he also said he bet Danny’s sad that his wife isn’t alive to enjoy his success and Bill felt for him.
Danny completely won him over. I have a cd for my vehicle and he’s keeping the other CD for his truck. Woohoo!
One of the reasons I went through all the problems we had was to encourage the few who havn’t yet met Danny to go ahead and make the effort to see/meet Danny. Go ahead and put yourself out there and even if it’s a little tough, it’s really worth the fun and exhilaration of hearing Danny in person.
I’m so happy I got to hear him in person. I feel blessed.
