Billie’s Recap: 102.5 KNIX’s New Country Throwdown – Danny Gokey concert

I found out from KNIX that in order to even be considered to be a part of Danny’s meet and greet I had to wear KNIX wear. My boss told me where to go and I picked up a shirt after work figuring that the chances were upped just a little bit. You saw the crowd from Brandon’s twitter pic – packed, probably 500 people – so what was the chances of little ‘ole me getting to meet Danny.

The bar was full when I got there around 6:15, I got a good spot by the dance floor and parked myself there thinking I’ve got a few hrs. to stand and people watch. I saw a few girls from church in the restroom and asked what they were doing there; their reply, “…to see Danny Gokey!” LOL I never know Stacie and Kerri were Danny fans too!

The concert started at 7:30 with a nice boy band that was fun to look at and sounded pretty well, they were followed by another guy – Aaron somebody. My feet were tired after a long days work and my ears were bleeding from the amps being almost right in front of me.

I made my way to the dance floor right in front of the stage and thought I had a good spot to see Danny when he arrives.
All of a sudden I felt this tap on my shoulder, it was one of the employees from KNIX; I had seen here earlier running around the dance floor talking with other radio station people. She looked at me and said, “do you want to meet Danny Gokey?” I think almost made her deaf with my reply. She gave me a sticker and said to meet outside at 9:30. There were a few others around me with KNIX shirts on too and they were choosen to meet him also. We were so happy we all high fived each and and screamed, I came there alone, but in the midst of so many Danny fans, I didn’t feel alone. I also had all of you in mind, I knew you were with me in spirit.

Around 9:30 we all made our way to the outside area to wait. I saw the white tour bus and instantly knew what it was. All of a sudden we heard somebody scream “Danny!” He turned around and gave us that Danny smile, waved and then was wisked away back to the bus. A few minutes later we walked toward the bus. As we were walking I saw a figure with a guitar sitting outside the bus, it was Def! I said “Hi” and he looked up and gave that cool Def smile, acknowledged me and went back to playing.

We went in single file, Brittney the coordinator told us only one autograph per person. One lady that exited the bus said to us all “he’s so darn cute!” My new found friends and I all giggled like school girls.

When it was finally my turn I walked in and was overwhelmed by his charm and smile. All you that have meet him are so right about his hugs! OMGoodness, I couldn’t believe this was happening. I told him I was going to write a recap of this on iheart and he said to let you know how much he appreciates everything you all do for him. He gave out a SHF bracelet to everybody he met. I left but as I regrouped with my new found friends I realized that I forgot to get his autograph!! Do you know how stupid I felt!?. The girls told be to go back and ask Brittney if I could get an autograph. Well, I did and he graciously did. I told him how stupid I felt…he said not to worry about it.

As I left the bus I let out a squeal that sounded like a 14 year old kid. But ya know…I didn’t care! I met Danny Gokey, the only AI contestant that ever captured my heart and soul enough for me to pick up the phone and vote. His set went fantastic, it was standing room only and the crowd was soooo pumped. We cheered, sang, took pics, and savored every minute; it was a night to remember.

As I left the venue the drive home was surreal. It would probably be the one and only time I’d ever meet my favorite idol of all time. He’ll eventually become so big that meeting him up close and personal will be virtually impossible.
I arrived home to see my kids waiting up to hear what happened; I showed them the bracelet and autograph.

So my friends, that was my night. To all you that have meet Danny, you know exactly what I’m talking about. To all you that haven’t yet, be patient; I know your time will come! Grin
