I am posting my recap from his concert.
Matt Giraud recap:
We drove (Michelle, Jen and I from Iheart, along with 4 other Milwaukee fans) 4 hours to Grand Rapids to attend Matt’s concert at the Fine Arts Center.
Sold out concert (1200 seats accd to MJs blog). Matt sang 15-20 songs, including many new songs that he has written.
He did sing some of his songs from AI, including Lets Get It On, Georgia, You Found Me.
IMO, Matt is definitely heading into the Jazz genre vs. the more pop direction he took on AI. It was a “mellow” concert, very jazz sounding.
Anna Wilson was there to sing their duet. It sounded very nice live; better than the studio. She seems to really like Matt and will be a nice mentor. His new band all wore suits, and some fedoras, very jazz looking and sounding.
Vocally, he certainly isn’t the incredible vocalist (that I am spoiled by Danny), but he certainly is extremely talented; played piano, drums and is quite the prolific songwriter- debuted many new songs he has written.
Had a meet and greet after, he signed for fans; no pictures with him (sat at a table). You could buy bracelets that said Matt Giraud, heart and soul on them. His whole band also signed autos, and Anna Wilson also- she is an incredibly nice and sweet person; asked everyone what their name was before she signed. No pictures for sale of Matt though; which surprised me.
Thanks to Michelle (remember when she bumped into Matt at the airport and had a conversation with him and watched his Gucci bag, lol, when he ran to the restroom? He told her he’d invite us Milgokey fans to the after party) we attended the Afterparty at a club called Eve, A night club place, not my style (we were all in jeans, in contrast to the girls in their short cocktail dresses and high pumps!). We were able to talk to Matt a little, he seemed very happy with the concert, but tired. He is always ready with a “goof around” attitude. We told him he had some Milwaukee fans drive up to see him and he joked “Ah, I’m going to give Gokey grief about that!”. When I jokingly said “yes, why the heck isn’t DAnny here?” he said sarcastically, in a funny way, “Well, its not like he’s not busy or anything”. We didn’t ask for pictures, because it was all friends and family and we felt intrusive. But later the groupies came pouring in, swarmed all over him, so we lost our chance for pics.
Didn’t get to bed until 4am! Been a long time since I stayed up that late, lol.
I took the stairs out of the nightclub instead of the elevator and walked down with Matt’s dad. What a cute sweetie. I told him what an excellent job Matt did and that a bunch of us Milwaukee fans drove to see Matt. He said “Oh, that’s Danny Gokey country!” and after I said well, we like Matt too! he said “We just love Danny”. Which was really sweet.
Rough day driving home after that (Michelle is quite the trooper with her driving skills!), but it was a fun weekend.
Of course we missed Danny back in Milwaukee, but I’m sure his church had to deal with plenty of “fans” for their conference so didn’t need me there too.

Latrece, if you still around I’m here now! Something major happened yesterday, which changed all my plans for the weekend. Had to go and celebrate with few friends, because something that I have given a lot of effort over the past five years turned out really positive. I’m very happy at the moment, but can’t say too much on an open blog..
Anyhow, this music player is fantastic and just like Maryann I love to listen to ‘I Can Only Imagine’. Can’t believe it’s only a month and then we’ll be able to listen to Danny’s CD. I have been waiting patienly and just know that Danny’s CD will be so beautiful,powerful and full of emotion. Can’t wait to be able to play his CD on a good sound system.
Have a great day! American Idol season 9 is on in fifteen minutes. I did watch the first show yesterday, but it just doesn’t feel the same Danny not being there.. Finnish TV shows AI during weekends both on Saturday and Sunday.

Hi Pam! Sounds like you had fun weekend, even though you had a long drive to see Matt. You are so lucky to be able to see these guys perform before they’ll move into big arenas. I’m sure Matt will also be successful. I actually liked Matt second after Danny on AI.

Someone said this on TWOP. Do you think this is a hater trying to detract, or a valid statement?
“It can take a while for a song to make its way up the country charts, so Danny may make it past the top 40. I liked “It’s Only” better than “My Best Days.” I don’t know if “It’s Only” didn’t test well, or what happened to it. With Danny being with a major label, and not some indie artist, I would think the single sales would be stronger. Album sales are very important, of course, but those single numbers need to kick in. I’m rooting for Danny, but I can easily see his album getting pushed back, and another single being launched before the full album is released.”
Could that be what Danny meant by “flexibility and adaptaton” being crucial to success?
We keep hearing how it takes 20 weeks for a country song to climb the charts. Its been 5 for DAnny and its sitting just outside the top 40 and his PR is just kicking in. He’s increasing in spins (didn’t Jannikas say Def told her the record company expected 22-25 extra spins per week, which he’s exceeding?)
I can’t imagine they would do as that person said? You TWOP people know better- is that person truly an impartial observer or are they a hater? I know the haters will be coming out more and more as he gets more PR.

I’m watching the AI episode with Mary J. Blige as the quest judge, but I’m really not that excited about AI anymore.. My boyfriend wants to watch it, even though he’s not expecting to see anybody as good as Danny.

I, personally, don’t see how they could expect too much as far as single sales at this point because I don’t think that many Danny fans knew it was available for sale. I mean now that they have the video out, I would imagine that will help, but before this week, there wasn’t much promotion. It’s not comparable to the promotion that Adam and Kris got for their singles. I do hope we will see more national promotion in the coming days.

Hi Amy, it’s good that you reminded us of the fact that Danny hasn’t really received that much promotion. Danny will be in the entertainment business for a long term and things will have to be taken slowly. Danny isn’t going to be any “one hit wonder”, but will be successful for many many years to come.
Now I’m off to watch the AI, because my boyfriend wants me to comment some of the singers, which so far haven’t been anything special..
PJGVET. Not sure about SGOMES posts on TWoP. It could be a Kris fanatic using a fake screen name. I know for sure DayandNight and BerryCherry are Kris fanatics. I am very suspicious that they “all” seem to come out of the woodwork at the same time.
To Amy’s point about people not know that Danny’s single is available for sale. DayandNight made a huge issue defending Kris with the same argument. Not he/she is turning that against Danny. Hater for sure.

Amy, that is very true, and I do believe Sony is into it for the long haul with Danny; not going for instant gratification.
I would have dismissed it as haterish, it was just Danny’s cryptic tweet about being adaptable. But he is always tweeting us interesting things to ponder and they don’t always mean something important. I just wondered if the regular TWOP people knew if that person was one of his usual haters. The more I read the post, the more it seems like it.

I did a search on those two accounts at TWOP. BerryCherry is definitely a Kris and Allison fan, probably just wandering into Danny’s thread on a whim.
The other one sgomes who made the comment about supporting Danny but wondering if he should do another single seems to be a person who bounces around in several areas including Fantasia and Clay Aiken. Not much of a pattern, looks like this was their only visit to Danny’s forum in the past two months. Doubt they have been following him closely.
I don’t see the idea of going with a second single now as very likely. The album is already done and out for sale on March 2nd, and the video just got released. If they had doubts about MBD’s results to this point, I think we’d see some other pattern as everything unfolds.
Not sure what Danny meant by that tweet about “flexibility.” May not have been music career-related but something else altogether (change of plans for SHF music center? or something personal possibly).

I did search that sgomes acct. and no, doesn’t seem to be a hater- actually seemed to really like Its Only back in November.
Perhaps a person, who just doesn’t know Country Music and the fact that it rises slowly, doesn’t gain as many digital downloads as pop (except for the really big names and big hits). I looked at Itunes top 200 once and there were less than 20 country songs on it. And that was Christmas when country christmas songs are pretty popular.
I guess a truer picture will come over this next month as he actually gets more PR and the video is out. He is selling at the same rate as Allison who did receive much more National (and AI) PR than Danny, who up until now, its been pretty minimal.
I agree with you Steph that if the label wasn’t happy with the way things were going that they would have changed course before now.
To put out another single just a month before the album, and expect it to be a bigger hit than one that is sitting poised near the top 40 would seem very odd to me.
But again, Danny’s tweet and the fact that I have never closely followed someone’s career like Danny’s made me think… what?
Surf; I do agree that the haters (yes, those other two were Kris fanatics, I did see that) will focus in on what they can.
I’m surprised there was hardly any haterish comments about his mv. Even Windmills had something nice to say about it. I guess that means haters can’t find anything really defense-worthy to rag on it.

Someone at another forum posted this note that they saw in their paper re Sugarland:
“They are taking a short but well deserved break, to recharge their batteries and let Nettles’ voice heal. Expect a few performances scattered through the rest of 2010.”
So maybe a problem has come up with her voice? Maybe THAT is the adaptation Danny was talking about……..Perhaps they have to rearrange the tour plans. If so, that would be unfortunate.
Maybe that is why someone here saw Sugarland only listed “special guests”. Perhaps Sony wants Danny to do more of a regular tour and Sugarland is up in the air because of her voice issues so they are rethinking that……….

Happy Sunday, everyone! Didn’t make it to church today, as I’m laid up with a sinus infection.
I wanted to pass along something interesting. I was never a Sanjaya fan–in fact, i almost thought he was kind of a joke. However, I picked up his book for a dollar at TJMaxx the other day, and after reading it, I definitely like him! He seems like a real sweetheart.
Also, the book provided fascinating glimpses into the Idol experience–just how much pressure and strain they’re under at all times, and how much they bond with each other during the show and the tour.
Interestingly, Sanjaya’s very best friends on the show were Phil Stacey, Jordin Sparks (they were the only two under-age ones, and confided in each other all the time), and Melinda Doolittle.
It made me really wish Danny would write a book too, especially so we could see what was really going on behind the scenes during his Idol experience.
Of course, I don’t think he’s going to have any time to write a book for quite a while!
Anyway, Sanjaya’s book is “Dancing to the Music in My Head,” and if you can pick it up on the cheap as I did, it’s definitely worth the read.

From what I remember at that megaticket.com site, looked like there were ~20-25 or so locations listed. Only two had any details available yet. One was the Philadelphia event where they are advertising Sugarland, Jake Owen and Danny for May. The second was in Virginia, with Sugarland and “special guests” for September.
I tried looking up any other Sugarland tour news, and didn’t get much besides two dates apparently booked for a while in Ontario, with two different supporting acts.
I do remember hearing somewhere else that Jennifer may have been having voice issues last year, don’t recall the details. I hope they won’t cancel early tour dates that Danny was planning to go out for. I’m not sure that would drive Danny to tweet that, since he was talking about “change” as if it was something about himself. (My impression.) The SHF thought occurred to me as it seemed Ivan may have been negotiating for the Milwaukee music center location recently, and Danny is in Milwaukee this weekend. So I wondered if it could be something in that area.
By the way, pjgvet, thanks for the Matt recap! I am definitely a Matty G fan…love the sound of his voice, and would buy his CD.

Cindy, sorry you’re under the weather, but glad to see you on. I may have to find Sanyaya’s book–it would be a fun read on some long train rides I have coming up.
I do remember that Def said the radio label was very happy with Danny’s success so far–Danny was exceeding expectations. I think they are purposedly going for the slow rise up the charts. My guess on Danny’s flexibility was probably dealing with SHF and the bureaucracy to try to launch a music program in MILW—just a pure guess.
It would be great if Danny snagged that top 40 hit next week. I bet that would be an awesome feeling/accomplishment for him.
Let’s remember that the promo so far has been very limited–and the video is just out. (Premiering on the internet is still not going to hit all those country fans that don’t cruise the net–unlike us!)
Once again, I was checking out the new release music section in Walmart–clearly half the albums featured are country albums! I’m hoping that I’ll see Danny’s picture featured soon with the Walmart Sound Check and a big poster in the aisles. If it happens, I’ll have to ask my daughter’s friend that works there try to “obtain” it for me when it gets retired, LOL!

The venues where the “megaticket” events are being featured seem to be the type where there is some seating under cover, but a lot of lawn seats. Not the sorts of venues where they’d be likely to get out there til the spring, so a “short” break could still fit that scenario.
As far as Danny being a supporting act, not sure if that would be fixed for the entire touring year, or maybe a first phase and then they’d decide or announce for later phases. He must be expecting to be touring through the summer though, as he and the band have said they aren’t sure about scheduling for Summerfest in Milwaukee?
Just one comment before I’m retiring, because I have to get up really early tomorrow (5.30 am).
Anyhow, after we finished watching AI my boyfriend said that now we should listen to the best singer AI has ever had! We did save all the episodes from season 8 from Hollywood week onwards. Now watching all the great Danny moments and he is just so amazing.. I honestly think that Danny has one of the best male voices ever.

Thanks for the information about Matt’s concert. I am glad that you enjoyed it and that things went well for him. Matt was in my top 3 this year along with Danny and Anoop, so I am glad to hear that he did well.
Also I don’t think that sgomes at TWOP is a hater. I think that I have seen them say nice stuff about Danny before. I don’t remember seeing them saying hateful stuff about Danny and definitely not on a regular basis.
DayandNight and BerryCherry are definitely Kris fans. I believe DayandNight has defended Kris against similar claims, that he/she and others have made about Danny, (not selling enough)
I think that Danny isn’t going to sell a lot of singles until he gets more national exposure and a lot more radio airplay. Right now he’s not Top 40 so he’s not on countdowns yet.
And he hasn’t gotten any national exposure outside of his video. The premiere of his video did help him sell more singles this week. Shortly after it was released he was #495 on Itunes, after he had been off the Top 1000 for a while. And for the past 3/4 days he’s been between 500-900 something. Right now he’s #929 on Itunes.
I think that it’s time for RCA to start getting him national promotion. He has about a month left before his album drops, and he needs it.

FOGS, I sent you a DM regarding Matt.
It was obvious some exposure helped Danny. And I think it was just from Danny fans on AI, actually, not even new Country fans or non AI people. So I hope that some more national PR will help him sell more, as well as getting in some countdowns.

I’m sure everything is timing related; people have short memories.
I was looking through sgomes posts, and they are definitely not a Danny hater. I don’t think I saw them bashing anyone in their posts. They seem to be an idol fan in general and have been posting on TWOP for a while.
They said earlier this year that they liked Danny, Anoop and Adam. And they said later on in May that they hoped Danny won, because even though he wasn’t their favorite, they didn’t like the hate against him. So I think they like Danny.

I am not worried one bit. The time for nauseating worry was during last summer while we waited for Danny to be signed.
My take on the current situation: First and foremost, he is in the right niche. 6 songs from the album so far exceeded my expectations and they were very, very high. IWNSGB has the potential to be a huge hit and then some.
All this about success takes time and much more than just one album. A true test for Danny will come next year. God only knows how many changes he will have to take by that time.
Even if he gets dropped by his label, he has the proven ability to sing visceral songs like nobody else and that ability will land him good producers. They’d be crazy not to.
He is compared a lot with with Melinda and Elliot recently. Yes, both are superb singers, but they either do not have the ability, or do not dare to put their vocal chords on a tear like Danny does. Superb as they are, Melinda and Elliott are just too bland and too safe for my taste.
So when Danny puts his chords on a tear, when he dares to belt high notes almost without vibrato, I feel as if he is willingly parting with part of his soul, his life, gifting it to whomever wants to take it.
It is more than just visceral, it is almost as if the “soul” (in musical and spiritual sense) turns kinetic, turns physical. I sensed that only Lara Fabian’s Adagio, and perhaps in some other songs of her, but I feel that “kinetic cry” in each Danny song. Celine Dion had this ability in her early career. She lost it about 10 years ago.
Hannele, I would agree with you that Danny is one of the best male voices ever. Before Danny, Joe Elliott of Def Leppard topped my list of male vocalists – just my taste.
With Danny there is definitely no instant gratification, just a permanent bliss. So no worries guys, ok!
Bosman, I always love to read your posts. They are so poetic, deep and have so much truth. Danny, more than most singers, puts his entire soul on the line when he sings. It’s almost a physical thing, and those glory notes can knock you off your feet in an almost physical way.
I think the haters are afraid of Danny. They are afraid of the emotions he can make you feel. Danny is strong to lay his soul on the line the way he does, and the people who appreciate what he does are strong for allowing him to do it and as such, lay their own hearts on the line. But of course the haters don’t or can’t express exactly what it is he makes them feel, so they dismiss him, in any other way they can–he’s not “cool” enough, he’s a d-bag, he’s corny, he has no musical experience, he’s uncreative, etc.
I think IWNSGB would be a brilliant second single but I agree it will not be released anytime soon, with MBD just beginning to climb the charts with the new mv.
I’ve missed everyone a lot but just haven’t felt like I’ve had a whole lot of things to say that haven’t already been said.
Got to keep in mind that this is a very long process, and we are only at the beginning. Mar 2 is simply the drop date of Danny’s album. It is not a due or die date where MBD is expected to reach #1. And I would see the national promotion closer to Mar 2 – and continuing after that.
And if album is as good as we are all thinking, the whole process of charting, spins, promotions continues and continues.
If RCA Nashville was not happy with Danny, his charting, his sales, his album, they would not be talking about a tour with established Country acts.
They would be in the studio doing damage control. They would be very tentative about the release date. They would have waited much longer to release the video.
BTW, all of the above was what happened with Allison.
It’s ironic, Adam has had the most success with his album – and not with his singles. But the Kris fanatics would never dare to bring that up.
I was supposed to go to bed already half an hour ago, but we literally got glued to the TV watching Danny’s performances from season 8. Have a good rest of the day and now I’m officially going to log off.

Kris fans always have a tendency to bring up Danny’s single sales, and airplay. Even though in spite of selling a lot of singles and having his single go gold, Kris’s album isn’t selling that much. I think that overall Adam is probably doing the best.
He is close to having a gold album and he is starting to sell a lot more singles. Right now he’s #19 on Itunes (Kris is #16). I think that he will get a tour as well. So I think that he is in a better position than Kris is in.
FOGS. And Kris continues to have the lowest selling album of all the winners.
As you said, they attack Danny for the same things they defended Kris for. As I recall, Kris single bounced around for quite a while. It wasn’t until his album was released that he saw some consistent movement. And he won AI and got way more promotion than Danny!
I suspect that Kris fans are coming out of the wood work – because they know that Danny could very well be the first to go on tour from Season 8.
I think some of them got called out (possibly by Adam’s fans?) where they claimed Kris was going on this major tour in Asia – where in reality, it is only 3 shows – and he will be coming back after a week.

Danny really changed my view and understanding of music. I mean after him nothing is ever the same. It will be interesting to see AI this year, just to see if anyone will be close to Danny. I liked Andrew, although I did not like his renditions on youtube before AI, so that was a nice surprise and that convict guy, but it seems he did not move up.

PAM: Just reading the posts, and wanted to respond to your TWOP question (although there may be intervening comments on that). I don’t think it matters whether the TWOP commenter is a hater in disguise, or neutral, or a fan. That is one person’s speculation about what might happen. We really don’t know. He/she is correct that single sales are important, and Danny really hasn’t sold much. But he also hasn’t had much national exposure. Information about the single likely was only reaching fans that are Internet-junkies. Plus, there is the whole 50%-of-country-fans-don’t-have-Internet-access thing.
Speaking of which, I was at my local Freddie’s (Fred Meyer’s to those of you who aren’t from the Northwest), and saw a sign advertising, “Get your music downloads here!” I’m going to investigate. What is it about Danny that makes us so worried and personally invested in his success?!
I think part of it is because of the hate he has endured; as well as the tragedy. I almost feel like he is my son, lol (well not all the time, if you know what I mean

Most of it is because I just want to be able to listen to that voice for a long, long time. It is truly addicting! Kind of funny, we listened to him all 4 hours to MI and back again. Did not get sick of him! And someone had the AI CD; listened to both versions of NoBo. Although I thought Kris did a better job on final 2 night; Adam’s recorded version was better (they changed it up a little to seem more rock for Adam). Neither was good. We were all laughing how Danny would have killed it and turned sap into meaning. The song really isn’t that bad; just wordy and difficult to sing and emote; but a vocalist like Danny could have pulled it off. Adam’s version was ok turned into a rock version but still seemed a little off because of the meaning of the words in it.
FOGS, I did agree that sgomes is not a Danny hater. I think perhaps they just liked Its Only better (I agree, better showcase for Danny, but don’t agree its a better radio single; I really do think MBD is a best first single) and think his sales are low, not taking into account that his sales really should be more on par with Allison and he hasn’t received the promo of the top 2 (or even that she has), plus his fans may not be internet types as much-which has been speculated, and which I agree with. I do remember a recent example where someone posted how long it took another country singer more well known than Danny even to climb the chart!
I think we are all just anxious, because he keeps hovering right under the top 40 mark and we want him to make that hurdle.

We must not forget that voting for Danny’s MBD video on GAC starts tomorrow. I was out shopping and bought almond/hazelnut nougat desserts and other top quialiy chocolate products to “bribe” colleagues at work to vote for Danny. Gotta keep them fat and happy! During break I will visit colleagues from my last job (they are in the same building), they’ll be too happy to vote for Danny, ‘coz they love me so much! Speaking of husbands, last night I explained to mine about the voting on GAC and how important it was to try to get Danny into the countdown. I was showing him on the GAC site how to vote, and that starting Monday he needed to do it every day. He asked me how long he needed to do this for, and I said “Forever. It’s like taking a vitamin pill. You have to vote for Danny’s video every day for the rest of your life.” After a pause he said “Will we still be able to go on vacation sometimes?”. He cracks me up! On the charts, I posted something at TWOP I’ll repaste here. It’s in reference to this chart, which someone keeps at the Pulse forum. I also looked up some information about Gretchen Wilson’s song at the mediabase site.

I have always felt very protective of Danny, from the moment I first saw him, but this increased tenfold when he started being the target of so much online hate. That protectiveness reached its peak around the beginning of the idols tour–I really was very afraid someone might try to hurt him! I know Danny doesn’t really need my protection and is stronger than most people in this world, but I still feel this almost maternal urge to protect him–combined with sexual attraction. It’s a very weird combination, but there you have it.
I felt exactly the same way about David Cook. Both these men are very emotionally vulnerable and strong at the same time and also very attractive to me physically even though I am way too old for either of them.
No one in season 9 has touched me so deeply as these two men have and I don’t think anyone is likely to either. I’ll probably have a favorite, possibly Andrew Garcia or Lee DeWyze, but no way will he or anyone else bring out the same level of protectiveness or investment in their careers and well being as Danny and DC have. I am glad too, because maybe I can just enjoy watching the show without becoming so invested in a single contestant.
I feel like Danny is a member of my family.

Just to go back a bit about Danny’s tweet yesterday, I wondered last week when Ivan was not in the Midwest appearances with the rest of them if something had changed. I submit that the label may have decided to try to put togrther the whole band and maybe n include him. Interesting musings Danielle. We can think of all different things can’t we! I know someone was wondering what St. Marcus is earlier; I think that is the church that SHF is trying to run their program out of. Wonder if it is something with them? I wouldn’t be surprised if it involves the City of Milwaukee; they can be difficult to work with and very bureaucratic (like most large cities I guess).

Steph, that was an interesting analysis. Gretchen Wilson certainly is a more established country star. I guess it does speak volumes about the country world’s acceptance so far of Danny that they are playing his song. But he just has to jump over that top 40 barrier! Ivan must have been with them for the private gigs or other events in NYC because he, Brandon and Def were tweeting about flying back together Friday night. He was with Danny for that store opening, I think he just missed some days early last week on some other business. I guessed it might be SHF-related, just because Danny said something this past week about SHF reps negotiating the last steps for the music program in Milwaukee. And remember Ivan wasn’t in the first phase of the radio tour either. He might have some other personal / business things unrelated to Danny or SHF taking his time last week.
It could be that the label will want certain kinds of musicians for Danny’s tour band to give a country feel closer to the studio versions. Don’t know if they would leave any of the current three out, but they might want to add a steel guitar or other distinctively country instrumental to the mix.
Ivan, Def and Brandon all went back to Nashville from NYC together. Seems likely they would all be part of the “big band” practicing Def was talking about. Will be interesting to see what the big band looks like, and where they will first show it off. Seems like there must be something in the next month or two, it could be a little early now to be practicing for a tour starting in April.

If Kris can put out current music, and continue getting decent support from the label, I think he will be fine. I don’t think he’s overly talented. As Steph once said, I do think he is competent. I have seen a lot less talented people succeed in the music industry, so we will see.

I think that Adam’s tie looks like something people used to wear back in the 1800′s. I have seen ties like that in Westerns like Gunsmoke that were set in the 1800′s. At least one Adam fan said on mjs that they didn’t like Adam’s outfit. But I think that’s Adam own personal style and the way he likes to dress.

FOGS, I’m a little mystified with Taylor Swift. I have nothing against her whatsoever, she seems like a very nice girl. And obviously her success is overwhelmingly huge, so there must be something there that other people get from her that I haven’t picked up.
Elliot Yamin. I will always have soft spot for Elliott. He created a firestorm when he said Danny should win AI (over Adam). He said Danny reminded him (Elliot) of himself. And that the competition should not be able people who came in armed with previous experience in the industry.
Alexis Grace. I wished the judges save would have been used on her. She deserved to be in the Top 10. She would have definitely given Allison a run for the money. And maybe we would never have even heard of Kradison, lol.
Adam. As usual, he has the make up piled on so thick. I agree, he looks better without it. Also, what’s with the Country look he is sporting???

I think that she is a talented songwriter and that a lot of teens and tweens really love her. But I don’t think that she can sing. She has never sounded good to me live. I’ve never really seen her sing in tune.
I don’t think that she is a good vocalist, and I don’t think that she should be winning awards for best female vocalist, like she did at the CMA’s and I think the Grammy’s tonight. But I can understand if she won songwriter awards, because I do think that she is a good songwriter.
Josie, I’ll just be happy when we can vote, because I will feel like I am doing something tangible for Danny. I’ve been trying to watch his video on CMT several times a day. I went to four stores today that were supposed to have Country Weekly, but couldn’t find one at all. I finally gave up.
If I didn’t have to work, I feel like I could be a better Danny fan. Maybe this summer…
About Taylor, it is frustrating. But honestly, I am content that Taylor has his own form of success in that he is able to perform live music and draw a decent crowd. He makes enough money from Grease to continue making and performing music. The lack of mainstream success doesn’t really bother me now. What bothers me is the way AI went out of their way to rewrite history and mock Taylor. It’s not about selling records, it’s about respect.
They didn’t hate Taylor on the show, even Simon lauded his singing abilities. I, personally, believe that something happened during the summer AI tour. Taylor insisted on doing the shadow tour with his former bandmates, which tptb did not like. He refused to start recording his album then. I don’t know why. But I do know that Taylor can be stubborn and will definately speak his mind. I think he p*ssed off some important people.
Josie, if you went to MJ’s in the spring/summer of 2006, Taylor was Adam. MJ was a Taylor fan and almost all the posters were Taylor fans. There were about maybe 4 regular Chris fans, 3 Elliott fans, and PJ (who is still there now) was the lone Ace fan. (This trips me out and it has taken all that I can muster not to mention the fact that she was an ACE fan, and she says that Danny is not a good singer…whatever).
In retrospect, this is kinda funny, but I loved Season 5 and was looking so forward to Season 6. In the first few episodes they managed to insult Taylor and Simon told one of the contestants to go and put their gum on Taylor’s face (on the board behind them). I was pregnant and had high blood pressure. I turned off the television, had a mini breakdown (same as during the Danny twitter fiasco last summer) and forbade the entire family from watching AI. And they didn’t dare watch it, until finally around top 10 time, I decided I would watch it, mostly because I felt bad about not letting anyone else watch it….lol.
I’m sorry for elaborating so much on the Taylor issure, but it has been a slow day.
As for Danny’s single, I don’t think that they would consider replacing it. I think it’s actually doing fairly well, considering the amount of publicity. He is close to having a Top 40 song (dang, I wish he had made it this week), and he just now has his video out, and will have the AI appearance coming up soon. I think all of these things will propel the song upward. We’d always like to see him doing even better, but I think he’s doing pretty good. His situation is very different from Adam’s and Kris’s.
I don’t like Adam’s up do either, and I agree with Josie, that Adam looks best with a natural look. I like him with less makeup. I’ve seen pics of him with his hair died a lighter brown, and he looked really, really good.

I think that Danny still might be touring with Sugarland. If he doesn’t end up touring with them because of possible vocal issues for Jennifer Nettles, I am not sure who he would tour with.
Lady Antebellum and Tim McGraw have a tour in April, but they already have Love and Theft opening for them. Carrie has a tour that will be going on in April, but I think she has people opening for her too. So I am not sure what RCA would do if Danny can’t tour with Sugarland and Jake Owens.
Grandmaster – I think the Mar 2 release date is to coincide with Season 9 of AI. It’s around that time, that they will start the live shows, the Top 12. I am hoping it is Danny’s comeback performance that will kick off the first live show – as David Archuleta did last year. Danny is signed with 19E as well.
Ironically, Elliott Yamin also released his debut album in Mar 2007. And when he appeared on AI to perform, he got his biggest jump on the charts and with Itunes sales.

The report about Jennifer’s vocal issues was mainly last year, where she had troubles in the spring/summer. She did continue touring last year after that.
The article that came out this weekend that Pam had heard of, described them as on a brief break and then Sugarland would be touring “sporadically” (the writer believed) the rest of the year. That writer was in Atlanta, whether he/she had any concrete facts about Sugarland tour plans may be doubtful.
Even if Danny is committed to tour with them, I’m not sure I’d expect them to announce those plans to run for a long tour all year. Just watching what other acts seem to do. Maybe is different with a big new tour, but often they seem to release dates/plans for +/- 2 months or so at a time.

Amy, it was interesting to read about your experience as a Taylor fan. I do understand the frustration. I am generally a calm and even keel type of person, but I do remember once reading through a headline thread at mj’s and someone just casually made a throwaway remark about Danny, just casually vicious. It just hit me I guess with a moment of despair about how cruel people can be, and I got up, went into my bathroom and shut the door, turned the water on and cried. So many things one could cry over in the world, but sometimes something just hits you hard. It’s so much better now than it was, generally people with two brain cells to rub together have realized how they were manipulated into believing lies.

I read somewhere that AI9 will have longer shows than AI8.
Probably unrealistic but it would be soooooo nice for Danny if when he comes back, he could sing two songs to do MBD and one of his power ballads off the album. I prefer Adam’s hair down and swept across his forehead too. The stand-on-end look both he and Danny have worn isn’t their best look. Unfortunately that look is in style for men right now, but there are few people it looks good on, if anyone. Both Adam and Danny are great looking men, but look so much more handsome when their hair is in a softer, more natural style. Adam was at his cutest early last season. He seems to have aged about 10 years since then, and not in a good way. But I think the hair and overdone makeup has a lot to do with that.
That was cute what the Kris fan said about Danny’s single. But I don’t think Kris will be a Taylor Hicks either. He is getting more promotion and is already more successful than Taylor was. That said, even Taylor isn’t really unsuccessful. Maybe by Hollywood/AI standards he’s unsuccessful, but compared to most people he’s a huge success. He’s doing what he loves for a living (singing), and made $300K last year. How many of us have a track record like that?

I think someone like Taylor Hicks would have been much better coming in 3rd of 4th – and he would have been fine. But because he won, the expectations are always higher. Unfortunately, he is considered the least successful winner.
I also think that winning will become more of a burden for Kris – as it has been for Ruben Studdard, who started off way stronger than Kris, but he is now considered the least successful winner next to Taylor Hicks.
Like Taylor Hicks, I think it would have been much better for Kris if it came in 3rd or 4th. Kris is a nice guy, with a pleasant voice. But he is also someone that is easily replaceable – as the next flavor of the month comes around. And he also has the teeny bopper, boy band thing going for him – and that usually does not sustain career longevity, legitimacy.

Josie, I can totally relate. And I think part of the problem with mj’s was that people could say whatever they wanted, no matter how cruel, and you really couldn’t point out their idiocy to them. You couldn’t flat out tell them how they were being mindlessly led like sheep. You see the cruelty and injustice, but you are powerless to really do something to stop it. It’s a helpless feeling.
I forgot one person in the correlation between Mj’s 2006 and 2009.
During Season 5, Kathryn McPhee was relentlessly and maliciouly attacked. Her family was vicously attacked as well for something as mundane as cheering when she made it to the final 2, because in the insane AI world, that meant that they were rubbing Elliott’s face in it. They were called classless. There was one singular Kathryn fan who would try to defend her at mj’s. People were so mean to her, and she was so doggone sweet and persistant (and she liked Taylor, too). MJ finally banned her, I believe.
But even with this treatment of Kathryn, I still feel that Danny’s was even worse. But then again, I wasn’t a Kat fan, so it’s hard for me to honestly compare. But I do think one thing that made Danny’s situation worse was the fact that he was coming out of such a horrible time in his life.
Interestingly enough,another parallel with Season 8, was instead of Kradison, you had THEY (Taylor Hicks, Elliott Yamin). This was created to exclude Kathryn.

I guess I’m glad I didn’t watch the show much until AI7, and didn’t really get invested with any of the performers that much until Danny late in AI8 once I realized about all the hatin’ and took a closer look at his music.

If Def is trying out for Danny’s band, I REALLY hope he makes it. He brings a lot to Danny’s performances, and really seems to love music.
Steph, I have been wishing for awhile that Danny would be able to sing one of those power ballads on AI. He could really bring the house down. I do like MBD, but I feel like Danny’s forte is the emotional big power ballad where he can connect with people emotionally and wow them vocally.

I hope Def doesn’t actually have to try out, but just wants to be as good as he can if they are mixing in some pro musicians with a lot of live tour experience. Plus it’s really good for Danny I think to be traveling with some people he’s comfortable with.
I would love if Danny can include one of his best ballads off the album when he gets more visible tv time. Hope they find a way, not that I don’t like MBD also. But the ballads have a greater wow factor, I think — esp Tiny Life and IWNSG.

Actually, Steph, I’ve only been through this twice…Season 5 and this one. And Season 5 was pretty easy until the next year. It wasn’t until late 2006 that you realized that TPTB were hostile to Taylor. They didn’t even give him a video or have him back on the show that season. And this was the guy that they gave an extra performance on Top 4 results night, letting a celebrity in the audience ask him to perform Jailhouse Rock again. Of course, this was after they knew Chris D. was gone, but it definately shows they preferred Taylor to Kat and Elliott. It was really weird how they turned on Taylor. Really weird.

Wow, I never heard about the Kat hate; I guess you have no idea when you are just a casual viewer. And never heard about the truly hateful Taylor/Daughtry fan fights until now (there are a lot of veterans of both sides as Gokey Gang members who have filled me in- its truly incredible the personal lengths some of those people went to to hate on each other and their contestants)
Surf, I have a soft spot for Elliot too. And he has juvenile diabetes just like my daughter, so he was a good role model for her.
Of course I hope Def doesn’t have to try out either, but I must say that I was surprised that Danny was able to pick his musicians the way he has. Again, drawing on the only previous experience I have with idols. I believe Chris D.’s pre AI bandmates tried out for Daughtry and none of them made it. (I met Chris D. in Charlotte and he flat out told some of us random fans that his pre AI bandmates “sucked.”) Taylor was very proud of his pre AI band, and several of them tried out to be in his band, and only the sax player made it, even though the keyboard player was awesome by most people’s standards.
Having this prior knowledge made me really take notice that Danny has been doing the radio tour with a family member and a long time friend. If he is able to keep at least one of these people in his band for his tour, I think it will be a big bonus for him emotionally.

I hope he gets to keep his friends with him too while he’s on tour, it seems like it would make it much less stressful. I think I’ve seen it mentioned that he stays with Ivan when he is in Nashville, I’m not sure if that’s right or not. It’s nice that he’s buying his own house in Milwaukee. I’m sure that his family there that he’s been staying with will miss having him, but it will be nice for him to have his own place. I’m sure his sisters and mom will help him get it all organized, wouldn’t that be fun?
Pam, I’m sure that Chris is a nice guy, and I liked him on the show. I wasn’t rooting for him to win, but I liked him, and liked his story, too.
But, for years, after I met him in Charlotte, I was not a fan because of his attitude that day. I remember there was this little older lady who was primarily a Taylor fan. She had brought a card for any idols that she met to sign for her grandaughter. She had Chris sign it, and she got her picture made with him. Then, she asked Chris if he knew when/if Taylor would be coming out, and he said, “I’m not Taylor’s babysitter.” He also said that he wasn’t taking any gifts for Ace, that Ace could come and get them himself. I held those comments against him for a long time.
Then, this year, when Matt made that comment about not being Adam’s messenger, it reminded me of Chris’s comments. Then at MJ’s, people (and mj herself, I think) started talking about David Cook having some kind of similar reaction (maybe heliotrope can clarify) toward people asking about, was it Castro?
Evidently, these types of reactions are common among idols. At the time, Taylor was very popular and perhaps Chris got tired of people asking about Taylor. Ace was also very popular in a different kind of way…lol. I don’t hold it against Chris anymore.
I will say that Ace Young was as sweet a person as you could meet. He was always the first one out and was always pleasant and accomodating with the fans. And I didn’t like Ace beforehand because I just assumed that he was going to be this egotistical pretty boy that would be above everyone else, but he truly showed himself as a nice guy.

Perhaps, if his album does well, he will get a place of his own in Nashville, as well.

But a lot of the hate that Danny got grew out of the fact that TPTB pretty much declared him as a favorite early on. There was resentment from the haters that TPTB put Danny on a pedestal and everyone aside from Adam, pretty much got pushed aside. Simon was very vocal about wanting Danny and Adam in the finals – because “they were the 2 best singers in the competition”.
And the day after the finale, Simon and Ryan trashed Kris and said that he will be the least successful Idol next to Taylor Hicks.
Even Jim Cantinello of MTV, recently theorized that No Boundaries was actually written for Danny – and that 19E must have freaked when Kris slid into the Final 2.
And Lionel Ritchie said that not only should Danny have been in the Final 2, he should have won American Idol.

It’s always interesting to hear about how the AI kids interact with fans on tour. There’s no producer editing and cutting and splicing those interactions. I always liked seeing videos of Danny interacting with fans, because he seems so calm and gentle and warm with people. He seems as if he likes them. He is so consistent with that, it’s very impressive and endearing.

I wondered that, too, Pam. Then I scrolled back up and it was a link that Steph posted.
Yeah, I remember Ace asked for Danny’s phone number to put in his address/telephone book, and told him to call him if he wanted to talk. I think Ace sensed that Danny was really going through a lot emotionally.
I went to about 5 concerts that season, which is embarrassing. But there were 4 right near my home. I love Elliott, but I’ll be doggone if that boy didn’t EVER come out. My sister was first and foremost an Elliott fan, and she was so disappointed. I still love Elliott and his tweets are hillarious.
Taylor would sign stuff forever, and was very patient and polite, but he was so shy he could barely look you in the eyes. His personality with strangers definately does not match up with what you saw on tv. He’s very shy, actually.

I think it’s sweet how affectionate he is with people and I’m really glad that he seems to enjoy meeting them rather than finding it stressful, as some people in his position would. Well, it probably is stressful sometimes but he seems to handle it great.

Josie, Amy — (Forgive me, I’m still reading through the threads and trying to watch the Grammys at the same time.) I can relate. I’m sure I was exposed to a lot less Danny hate because I didn’t even discover him until after he got voted off AI. But it didn’t take long for me to realize that I needed a refuge from the hate. That refuge is iheartDG. I remember how I felt when Deb/Michelle/Jen posted a fan video, and someone posted a comment calling Danny a “fat wife-killer.” Now I tend to have low blood pressure, but I’ll bet if you took my blood pressure right after I read that comment, it would have been through the roof! I was spitting-nails mad! I still get angry whenever I think that someone would take the time to seek out a fan video to post a cruel comment. It’s insane!
Ellen…if you’re still there, are you happy with the MP3 player you bought….I’m looking for one – there seem to be a lot of choices…so I’m not sure what to do.

Coriellen, yes, I am very happy with my MP3 player! I think it is pretty easy to use, and the sound quality is quite good. It is a Sony Walkman MP3 player.

Just watched the video of Glambert doing his red carpet costume interviews. All the dresses were “beautiful” or “pretty.” One was “shiney”. Glambert likes shiney too. But, hey, I liked seeing the gals in their finery. And he seemed as if he were really enjoying what he was doing. So all in all, think he did fine.
Ellen, if you read this, I haven’t been able to fine Country Weekly here either. My grocery store, down around the corner from me has one, but not the right one. I didn’t think to check out the date. Near Sacramento. I retired a little early, then work now part time. So far seasonally 3 1/2 months a year and I like to stay up late and sleep in. Always loved it, now I can do it. lol
II read about you hating the mean things said about past idols as well as Danny. I feel the same way. I mostly feel protective of Danny too. I think we as women do feel that need to nourish and maybe that has something to do with my Danny addiction. But I do so love that voice of his. Sometimes he takes my breath away with his songs.

Marilyn, are you naturally a nightowl too? My natural body rhythm is stay up till 2:00 a.m., sleep 8 hours, and get up at 10:00 a.m. But I can’t do that when I’m working! LOL! When my Dad retired, he used to do the same thing — 2 am to 10 am. My sister is the same way. When I used to return to PA to visit my Dad before he died, it would take no more than ONE DAY before my body was back in the old 2 am to 10 am cycle.

I remember tell my mom when I was in my teens that I wanted a job where I could stay up until the early ours then sleep in. I’ve had a couple. My part-time job is seasonal, but I start at 10 am and get home by 5. Then stay up late then too.
