that was great, I loved seeing that video but I don’t know I’m a little weirded out. I mean, maybe it’s the catholic guilt in me but seeing people take pictures and video was weird but this is essentially a church and you don’t do that in church. ok, it’s not a traditional church but still it was a church service.
I don’t know, maybe it’s me, but maybe Danny felt a little the same cause he kept going back to the safety of the podium? Maybe I’m reading more into that too. Like I said, I don’t know but it was good to see him. he sounded amazing!
Danny sounded awesome as usual!! I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary except for maybe a littlt picture taking?? Anyway it was spectacular to behold him singing with such passion!!
Hi! I was at the church service last night – thanks to finding out about it through this website. It wasn’t publicized at all in Milwaukee – other than the pastor’s tweets, I believe. I just happened to jump on here Wednesday and see the post about the service. My parents actually live about two minutes away from the church! My husband graciously went with me so I wouldn’t be alone (my friend who loves Danny as much as I do had plans for the evening that she couldn’t get out of).
We got there about 6:30 and the service started at 7:14. I didn’t know how many people would be there. I figured if I had seen the tweet, perhaps several thousand others did and I had no idea how many seats the church had. When we got there the place was still fairly empty. We sat in the 4th row, just off the center. The church was very lively and everyone was super friendly.
At the very start of the service Danny walked in the side door – right next to where we were sitting. He sat in the front row of the center section and from where I was sitting I had a direct profile view. I “had” to look that way anyway, since that’s where the pastor was! I know what Lori meant about the picture-taking and the video. I had brought my camera but I knew this was a church service – first and foremost, not a concert venue and that Danny was here to worship. I wanted to have the camera – just in case. So, after a few worship songs Danny got up and sang a few praise songs with the worship band. He sounded amazing. People were able to go right up to the stage and that is when they were taking some pictures and video. There were many, many flashes of photography. I then turned to my husband and said I would take one quick pic, which I did, and then put my camera away for the rest of the service. If many, many other people hadn’t been doing it I wouldn’t have.
After the praise songs, the pastor spoke a little about Danny. He said when he came in earlier he heard Danny practicing with the worship team and for a split second he was back to two years ago, when Danny was a member of the team and was just there working as usual. Then he was back to reality and realized, oh, yeah, Danny has to go back home and is famous now, etc. He thought of a solution – that Danny could fly back to Milwaukee every Sunday. LOL! Everyone laughed. But the pastor expressed how proud everyone was of him and how they knew they wouldn’t be able to keep him forever.
Danny then got up and sang “It’s Only.” He sounded amazing. After seeing him at Danny Gokey Day at the Summerfest grounds with tens of thousands of people, on the American Tour and at the Grafton High School Performance last month – it was awesome to see him perform at his church and see how important God is in his life. As a Christian, it makes me respect him even more.
He left out the side door immediately after the service. My husband, who had never seen Danny perform before, really enjoyed him and what an awesome singer he is. And, the church service was truly inspirational. It was a fantastic night!
Thank you to whoever posted about the service on here!

Tracy, loved reading your story about last night.
Tracy, thank you for understanding my intent in my post. I didn’t mean to criticize those who took the pictures, I was just saying how weird it was for me to see anyone doing that during church. It just wasn’t how I was raised.
anyway, thank you for you recap of the service. I smiled as I imagined Danny’s reaction to Pastor’s words about him. He’s such a humble guy so I imagine he was just a little uncomfortable. I would have loved to see his sweet face. I just love this boy. I can’t help it.

Tracy, thanks for describing the event so well for us. I think it seems very special to be able to attend the service at Danny’s home church with him. This fame thing is going to make so many changes to Danny’s world. jan
