Just about every track in Nielsen SoundScan’s list of last week’s most-downloaded digital tracks more than doubled its sales from the previous week, as folks hit their computers to spend their Christmas money and gift cards. Which American Idol star benefited most from the post-Christmas download boom? That would be Carrie Underwood, who saw weekly sales of Cowboy Casanova go from nearly 33,000 to just over 124,000 — a 278 percent week-over-week sales increase that made Cowboy Casanova the best-selling Idol track of the week and No. 21 over all.
Jordin Sparks, though, saw the biggest percentage increase of any Idol in the top 200: Her Battlefield jumped from a little more than 9,000 copies to more than 51,000 — a whopping 448 percent gain!
