Erika, just my comment on the browser / site viewing question last night. I don’t know if it’s IE. I used to see all the components fine, until recently when the page has had a lot more on it.
When I have problems at this site (or others) with the page locking up, usually my first suspect is the adware.

Hi everyone.
The numbers for Danny’s download sales come out today.
cjmac7 on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 9:57 am
Hi FOGS, I hope Danny’s sales are up…what’s the figures?
FanOfGoodSingers on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 9:59 am
Some download sales have come out so far, but numbers for Danny haven’t come out yet. It looks like last week was a big week for download sales because of the holiday season. Kris sold over 109,000 downloads last week. Adam’s song FYE sold over 15,000 downloads last week. I don’t know when we will see the numbers for Danny.
Lizzy on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 10:13 am
Steph,
Michael J from WMZQ at DC played My Best Days this morning at 8:28 am. YAY!!!! I sent him an email at 8:00 before I left for work and asked him to play it for me on my drive in to work – I told him I was going to keep asking until he played it. He announced on the air that he was playing it for Liz in Columbia and said here ya go Liz, hope you enjoy it. After the song was over he said that was Danny from American Idol and that he played it for Liz and that he broke the rules for me. I emailed him back and thanked him and told him he made my day. I finally heard My Best Days Are Ahead of Me on my local radio station – I am thrilled.

Thanks FOGS. I’m from the Philippines and I asked my sisters in US to purchase Danny’s songs in iTunes & emailed them to me (I asked them to purchase 5 times LOL)….Just my small way of showing my support for Danny. Hope the sales are up

I just read some of the download sales at MJ’s. Congrats to Kris. Those numbers are really good. Adam sold 15,000 of FYE and 45,000 of WYWFM. I am hoping with the sales being way up that even though MBD was not ranked high on Itunes, it still sold a respectable amount. Brian Mansfield at USA Today should have the numbers up soon.

Hello, peeps.
Well, I don’t know what to do about the browser stuff. I use Firefox and Chrome and for me the page loads okay every time.
What I can do is take away the things that I put there (twitter feed, music, video, link to buy the CD) so things can go back the way they were. Let me know if I should do that.
I can’t take the ads off or change them, for that matter. Believe me, I want to, but Amy needs them to pay for the costs of the site.
Lizzy on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 4:06 pm
I don’t know if we are going to get Danny’s numbers. Brian Mansfield only had access to the the top 200 downloads and Danny was not in the top 200 which we knew already because he never made it to the top 200 overall on Itunes.
Betty on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 4:22 pm
Erika,
I always use Firefox and the page loads okay every time. My suggestion would be for everyone to download Firefox and use it instead of Internet Explorer. It is s really sophisticated browser.
Also, you are less likely to have problems with viruses and malware. I had major problems using Internet Explorer this past summer and finally had the Geek Squad come out and install Kaspersky security software. Since then, I have not had any viruses or Trojans.
Just my two cents.
Betty on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 4:27 pm
Using Firefox and Kaspersky completely eliminated my computer problems (knock on wood).
Betty on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 4:29 pm
Don’t know about Apple computers, as mine is window based.
Marilyn on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 4:38 pm
Hi Ihearties,
Hope all of you had a blessed Christmas season. I was back looking for “Back ot One” mp3 gift from Erika, on 12/23 posts, I somehow lost it off my media player, and reread Mr. C Bing’s post on how much he liked being Danny’s fan, his first ever.
I liked your piece Mr. Bing. You opened up your heart here for all of us to see how much you love Danny. I especially liked how you said that Danny helped you, because his grief was more than your troubles, and you were inspired by Danny’s overcoming his grief over his wife, to help you to choose to overcome your troubles. Very profound Mr. Bing.
I just want to say that Danny’s love, instead of hate to those who have hurt him in the past, I’m thinking in particular of those Idol reporters, is wonderful and such an inspiration of the way I need to forgive and then get on with my life without the “weight” of anger or bitterness weighing me down and making the past a heavy bag to carry into the future.
And also, Danny has mde me more aware of the need around me and I see more clearly how I spend my “extra” money (not really that much) on clothes and skin care and makeup. All those things are good, and we all need some, but there are people without life’s necessities. Anyway, I’m beginning to rethink some of my selfish spending habits.
I do, through my church give, and often spend a day a week helping to hand out free food to families in need in my community through my church, but I still feel I need to do more. (I hope I don’t sound too sanctimonious.)
Danny’s song, It’s Only”, when he sings “Lord open my eyes and help me see”, I need to open my eyes and “see” the need around me and be more giving.
So I’m with you Mr. Bing, Danny has made an impact on my life too for the better, more than just me enjoying his music, which I dearly love.
I would love to hear how Danny has impacted your lives too, Ihearties.

Betty, I didn’t know the Geek Squad made housecalls. I bet that cost a pretty penny!!!! I don’t trust them because they really screwed my computer up big time, so much so in fact, that I had to hire someone to come in and clean up their mess. They closed my computer down as upgrades were downloading/installing automatically…and boy, did that ever do damage! Of course they said they’d fix the problem BUT wanted ME to pay for it when it was THEIR mistake. I would never get them to even so much as dust my keyboard now.
But after the holidays I’ll try downloading Firefox. I hate to do anything on here because it always never turns out right but maybe I’ll get brave and try Firefox because IE really sucks a big one.
Ellen B. on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 4:45 pm
ERIKA, the general links to what’s new on the site are very important to me. If I were going to get rid of something, I would get rid of the “Top Commenters” sidebar, or the “Upcomings Events” sidebar (with the caveat that upcoming events would be listed elsewhere, most likely under “Appearances”). In fact, you could just include a permanent link to upcoming events as part of the box that includes general links.
Or you could just wait. Eventually the video of “Oh Holy Night” will be deactivated, and you could take down that link at that time. Maybe that would restore the missing stuff.
But don’t make any changes on my account! I use Firefox at home, so I can see everything then!
Marilyn on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 4:47 pm
Erika,
I use IE and I have it all ok. I really like the new page setup where we can listen to Danny’s music on here. I might give firefox a try though, expecially if it keeps down trojans and virus’s. I’ve had a problem with them three times this past summer and fall.

Marilyn, very nice post! I know Danny has certainly made me more aware of a need to help others, donate more time to my church, and think of others first. He has also taught me not to let certain situations (in my case, health concerns) define me, and keep me from looking to the future and not giving up hope. Danny has taught me to have a much stronger faith in God, and to rely on Him in prayer. I have learned how much good it does my heart to make a small donation to SHF rather than go out and spend it on a new purse or a pair of earrings. Danny has definitely had a positive influence in my life and I consider him a blessing. He is also proof that all the angels are not in heaven….we have some right here on earth.

Olwki, i use Firefox i usually have no problems accessing the page but yesterday it took me ages to load the page but i guess that was a connection problem due to my internet, because i usually have no prob at all
Ellen B. on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 4:49 pm
Shirl, I don’t consider myself to be computer-savvy at all, but I had no problems downloading Firefox. I know that is no guarantee, but I thought you might find my experience reassuring.
FanOfGoodSingers on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 4:58 pm
I guess we are going to have to wait until Danny makes the top 200 on Itunes before we can get download numbers for him. Hopefully he will eventually break into the top 200 on Itunes once gets a lot more radio airplay and his music video comes out.

Thank you for the feedback, peeps.
I recommend Firefox as well. Although I do get crashs from time to time, it’s the browser that crashes the least for me. I understand when it crashes, though… I abuse my computer so much…
IE is crap, seriously. I tried yesterday but it’s just an awful experience. It wants you to make all the decisions that Firefox makes for itself, asking for permission every nanosecond and blocking everything else. Poor excuse of a browser…
Ellen,
I can’t put “Upcoming Events” under “Appearances” because they are accessed from different parts of the site. “Upcoming Events” comes from updating the “Calendar” (click on it, on the top of the page, I think you’ll like it). “Appearances” is a category of post (kind of a ‘box’ we put the posts in, to try and make it easier to find them later).
The “top commenters” column was there before and I’m not taking any of the things that Amy put on the site out. She was nice enough to give me ‘carte blanche’ to do whatever I wanted on the site but I don’t really want to change what she did.
I was thinking about putting a different video every week or something on the space where ‘O Holy Night’ is but if that is the thing causing the problem, I can just wipe it out altogether… even if I’m fond of the idea of having a space for a “featured video” that is not an ad…

those pics are really nice. the one had struck me as very professional in quality, but I couldn’t think why it would be taken since Danny’d done his photo shoot for the album already and it had a very different look. Hadn’t thought about SHF.
.
for Lizzy, yay that Michael J played Danny’s song on the DC station. I did have the radio on this morning around that time, probably just barely missed hearing it
I guess I’ll have to email him again to ask about it, huh.
wonder what he meant by “breaking the rules” though, any idea?

I’m not really willing to redo all my browser settings to go to firefox, but really appreciate all the work Amy and Erika do on the site. Will just use it as best I can. I was watching my local news tonight and they showed a clip of danny doing some charity work. Not sure who it was for but I think it’s great that he finds the time in his busy schedule to contribute to charities. The only turn off is that he was smoking a cigarette in the clip that they showed. Dont get me wrong, there is nothing morally wrong with smoking and it may have helped him get that raspy voice which made his career flourish, but I think we should get together and see if we can help him quit. I would like to appoint myself the leader of the movement. Whose in?

Erika, thanks for posting that new video of Danny with the NA. I still have absolutely no idea where he was on the field, lol. Making the video full-size at least you can make him out several times on the big monitors though. And it is nice to hear the full song.
It struck me kinda funny to realize watching a clearer video that when Danny sings about the SSB “waving” they actually shake that huge USA-shaped flag to make it “wave.” Ha. Seemed more jiggly to me than a wave, but it’s the idea that counts I suppose.

I’m kind of focused on his hands tonight because of a dream I had about him last night. We were on some kind of sightseeing tourbus and it was hot and sunny outside. I forgot to bring my sunblock with me so when we made a stop, Danny mixed up some weird potion along the side of the road and rubbed it on my sunburned arms. We hugged and kissed (no idea where my dh was! LOL) and I remember thinking how warm and soft his lips were…..of course then I had to go and wake up….

I am not sure what TW and LW stand for–Steph, Lizzy, FOGS?

Helio, I can’t explain much with those charts (Lizzy and FOGS are our gurus) but do know that TW is This Week, LW is Last Week.
So with that, Danny would have just dropped one spot, which would be pretty good if that was the Christmas week data.
I am still just soooooo confused why all these stats and charts are coming out when I thought there was a freeze for the holidays thru New Year’s and all the end-of-year/end-of-decade recapping.

You’re welcome!
There’s an extremely annoying and clueless Danny hater at IDF named “Kworb” who is already saying MBD is an abysmal failure and was gloating about how it dropped off the charts after peaking the first few days it came out.
Here is what he said:
Gokey’s sales were abysmal. He peaked outside the top 200 on iTunes and quickly plummeted. We’ll probably never know the real figure, but I estimate he sold about 5,000 his first week.
Here was my reply to Kworb:
Um…I think it’s a little premature to call Danny or his single a failure. He has had no national promotion yet nor a video out. RCA’s doing the slow roll-out and we can’t really tell how well his single will do until his video is released, which I believe is sometime in January. According to his official site, RCA is going to start national promotion as it gets close to when his album is released in March. Kris’s single has been out for three months and also took a long time to get to where it is now. It didn’t really start climbing the charts until his video was released and his album came out.
I keep trying to put out these little fires but they just keep appearing elsewhere. Sigh.
Shirl, I got your email, will reply tonight.

The projections were for Danny to be #53 this week on Billboard Country Songs Chart. Last week he was #52 so he only dropped one spot and lost a few spins. I didn’t want to see him drop on the chart at all because only current songs are eligible for Billboard (no Christmas songs). So Danny did lose a spot in comparison with the other country songs. This chart is only based on radio airplay which is why it is so important that we keep requesting Danny’s single. When Michael J. from WMZQ in DC played Danny’s single for me this morning he told me he broke the rules. When I thanked him for playing the song I mentioned and for breaking the rules (whatever that means). He responded back and told me that it meant Danny’s single was not in the rotation yet. I then responded that I hoped it would be on rotation soon because it is a good song. I really believe there is a pecking order with country radio, especially for new artists. If Danny were an established artist his single could move up the charts faster (like Carrie’s Temporary Home is which was released the same week as MBD’s). Danny is going to have to move up the charts slowly and we cannot give up. His song may not be on your local country radio stations rotation yet but the radio stations need to know there is interest and people want to hear it.
As to Danny’s single sales. My Best Days has dropped to #123 on the Itunes country songs chart (I just downloaded it a few more times). Didn’t plan to use my entire Itunes gift card for Danny’s single but WTH. I am extremely disappointed that we don’t know how many singles he sold for the week. In the past, Brian has always posted the numbers for Idols selling under 10,000 but I guess the top 200 sales were so inflated due to the holidays that those numbers were not available. He posted when Allison sold 9,000 her first week. At first I thought Danny might sell only 4,000 but seeing how high the numbers are I am hoping he sold between 5,000 and 10,000.
Lizzy on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 7:32 pm

Lizzy, I know you’re a statistics lover but breathe and calm down. Danny is going to climb the charts up slowly. There’s nothing wrong with that. He’s a new artist in Country and he’s doing great.
mighty1 on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 7:41 pm
Danny dropped to 123 on the country chart? I honestly didnt even know there was 123 country songs that have been released recently. Danny will survive though. I predict he will switch to a different style of music for his next album and leave country alone. Ive been told that he was considering switching to disco or maybe even trying something more mainstream. Hopefully he does.
I cnat believe owiki (sorry if mispelled) wants me banned. Most fan sites would love to have an internet icon dropping in from time to time. Thanks for having my back steph and helio. Im gonna send the both of you tennis balls in the mail as a token of my appreciation.
Lizzy on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 7:49 pm
Mighty1,
Danny DID NOT drop to #123 on any country chart. He is #53 on Billboards Hot Country Songs (which is fine because it was just released). He did drop to #78 on mediabase but that is because the airplay chart was full of Christmas songs. Once the Christmas songs are gone I fully expect him to be back in the 50’s which is where he was before the two week Christmas freeze. What I said is that Danny’s single is #123 on Itunes sales chart which fluctuates minute by minute which means absolutely nothing and is not an official chart of any kind. Danny is doing just fine. His music video will be out soon and his spins will increase and he will move up the charts like he is suppose to.
FanOfGoodSingers on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 7:51 pm
Danny only dropping one spot on the Billboard chart is not bad. Not only is Danny competiting with Christmas songs on the radio he is also competiting with new songs by Lady Antebellum (”American Honey”) and songs by established artists like Alan Jackson.
Also I believe that Lady A’s “American Honey” along with Blake Shelton/Trace Adkins “Hillbilly bone” were released for sale last week, which was more competition for Danny.
If I had to guess for his single sales, I would say around 4,000 maybe a little higher, since sales were higher overall for a lot of artists. Hopefully he will get more sales, once he gets a lot more airplay.
Helio

Erika, I agree, I think Danny will do just fine. Wait until his video comes out and he starts getting national promotion. It’s natural to panic because we love Danny so much we want him to have a #1 hit single and go platinum right away, but really there is nothing to panic about.
Mighty, I am eagerly awaiting a bright yellow tennis ball in my mailbox.
Lizzy, I’ll PM the poster at DCO and try to get those figures.

Owlki, I know Danny fans are always cool and calm (maybe too calm IMO lol) but sometimes getting a little hyped up is a good thing. I’m sure Danny doesn’t mind his fans getting a little hyped up when it comes to buying his single, requesting his song from radio stations or hyping him up on country blogs.

Helio, I added a (long, lol) post at idf just after yours.
Lizzy, I hope that means (from Michael J) that they will be adding Danny’s song when they update their rotation. I get the feeling that they don’t do that terribly often a month at either the Baltimore or DC stations. When I look at the “new artists” section for one, the list of people and they order they appear in is static for days if not weeks. I’d hope at least to see Danny on that before long, but have been guessing these stations may not change their programming til next week.
I’ll send him a thank you also.

Helio, thanks — it bears a remarkable similarity to some stuff I posted at mj’s last week when there was some Danny bashin’ going on in the thread about his video.
But truthfully, if his label really was all worried about Danny’s first week iTunes sales there is no way in the world Danny would spending his time hanging out in malls in Milwaukee as his apparent first order of business when not visiting with family.
TheSurf on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 8:24 pm
Being at #53 for the first week of a single that hasn’t started any national promotion, where there isn’t a video or album out yet, and going on sale at a time where radio was flooded with Christmas music – is a very respectable showing, especially for a new artist.
Danny was not in the finals of AI – and thus did not get all the promotion usually afforded to those in the finals. Yet it took Kris close to 2 mos before LLWD saw any solid movement. And Adam’s album took a huge drop after the 1st week – but it has since picked up momentum.
Honestly, Kris and Adam are doing ok – but they have yet to set any records on the charts.
Country music normally takes a longer ride up the charts. And MBD needs build momentum for the album’s debut in Mar – which is a good 2 mos away.

Hi everyone. This is just my opinion, but honestly I don’t mind that the single sales number wasn’t reported this week. I have a very high degree of confidence that Danny is going to have a successful album, but it gets so tedious when deliberately obtuse and hostile people take things out of context in order to be irritating. I think that there are many good things coming up for Danny, with the video and Opry appearance, and more promotion (like that Fox piece that was posted yesterday – he looked and sounded so great in that!). It’s very early days, and time is on our side I think.
I hope everyone is getting to enjoy some time off this week! My husband and I are preparing for a NYE game with our friends, and among other things we’re supposed to come up with a list of the best things that happened in the world in the last decade. I think we all here share one thing in common with what would be on our own personal list!
FanOfGoodSingers on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 8:30 pm
I think that if Danny’s label treats him as new country artist and continues to support him, by doing stuff like letting him continue the radio tour, giving him a video, getting him more gigs. And then giving him good promotion, he has a chance of doing fine. I think that RCA Nashville signed Danny thinking that he could do well for their label.
And while they might think that he could do better than other new country artists because of his exposure on Idol, they are in some ways treating him as a new artist without using his time on AI a whole lot. When compared to other new Country artists Danny is doing fine. And while he did have a lot of exposure from AI, he’s not the winner or runner-up so expectations for him are lower.
Lizzy on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 8:33 pm
See my persistence paid off. My answer from Brian Mansfield at USA Today – respectable numbers for Danny YAY!!
Don’t have “Temporary Home” numbers for this week, but Nielsen SoundScan says Danny Gokey’s “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me” debuted at 8,000 digital tracks.

Lizzy, that’s good to hear about the numbers from Brian, especially given the context in which those numbers were earned.
Since FOGS and Lizzy are both here, do you have any theory on whether / how the pre-order album sales (which include a free download of MBD) might count toward the sales data for MBD as a single?
Danielle Payne on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 8:41 pm
8000 is not bad for not having performed the song in public since the nineteenth and no real radio play during the week of neverending xmas music. My guess was in the neighborhood of 7200 so he did better, but this week will be rough as everyone that has heard the song has purchased it, but the following should be back to the plus side with the radio tour and the Opry appearance.
FanOfGoodSingers on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 8:47 pm
I read somewhere that Taylor Hicks didn’t even get a music video for his first song. I think that’s messed up especially since he was an AI winner.
I was watching “Backstory: Blake Shelton on GAC and Blake was talking about his first album and some of the problems he had when he was first starting out as a new country artist.
His first song did really well, and went to #1 on the Country chart, and he got a video for that song. His second song didn’t do well, and his label told him they weren’t giving him any more videos.
He made a bargin with them, he told them that if his third song didn’t do well, then don’t give him a 3rd video, but if it did well to give him a video.
It ended up doing well and he got a video for it. Early on in his career he got dropped from a label (Giant Records) and then went to Warner Brothers.
Also he recorded a song called “I wanna talk about me” which his record label said was a song that wouldn’t be successful for him and thought was too risky. But the song did end up being successful for Toby Keith.
But in spite of the problems he encountered early on in his career, Blake is doing well now, his song Hillbilly Bone with Trace Adkins, shot up into the top 10 on the Itunes country chart like the first day or two it was released. He’s had five number one hits and sixteen songs that have charted on the Country chart.
While things might seem kind of slow for Danny right now I think that he has a good chance of doing fine. There have been other country artists (like Blake Shelton) who have went through bigger obstacles (in the music business) than Danny has when they started out as new country artists but they ended up doing fine. If RCA continues to support Danny he could do well.
FanOfGoodSingers on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 8:52 pm
Thanks for the information, Lizzy.
8,000 is not a awful number especially considering that Danny never cracked the top 200 on Itunes and was fluctating on the overall Itunes chart. It’s double what I predicted.
He was in the top 300 on Itunes for a couple of days but then went down to 800 something, then back up to 700 than 600 something. I wouldn’t be surprised if Danny got a lot of his downloads from Amazon. He was ranked much higher on the chart over there than he was on the Itunes chart.

This were the first week sales for the other three:
Kris LLWD – 15,755
Adam FYE – 18,000
Adam WWFM – 11,197
Allison – 9,000
Danny – 8,000
Plus remember there was a Kradison fan who admitted buying 1,000 downloads each for Kris, Adam and Allison and a lot of Adam fans admitted to buying Allison’s single. I suspect not to many Kradison fans bought MBD.
FanOfGoodSingers on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 9:08 pm
steph I am not sure if the downloads from his album pre-orders would count in his download sales total. Wasn’t the single for his album pre-order free? If so, then I think that it wouldn’t have counted in the total number of sales for his downloads for last week.
Lizzy on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 9:10 pm
I agree with FOGS. I don’t think the free single with the pre-order counted towards Danny’s sales plus I’m not even sure if buying the single from the official website counted towards the first week sales.

8,000 is a very good number. I personally am very happy. There was an expectation of 4,000 floating around and this is double that estimate. Think about all the money that Jive spent on Allison and she only got 1,000 more sales then Danny.
My only suggestion to him would be more self promotion. In his tweet today he could have pushed the sale of the song on itunes and amazon and maybe a push to DGO. I know some people are very humble about self promotion so that is where we come in.

Read an interesting except from an Arbitron report titled “What Happens When New Music Gets Played: The Impact of New Songs on the Country Radio Audience” http://www.arbitron.com/study/country_radio_2007.asp
“Established artists perform better than new artists, uptempo songs perform better than slower titles and songs from male artists perform better those from female artists. The study also reveals that it takes about 25 weeks for a new song to have its maximum impact on a Country station’s audience levels.” “The cycle of all songs from introduction to maximal audience change is about 25 weeks or approximately 450 spins.”
25 Weeks!!!!

Not sure if this is a good time, since traffic is slow, but thought I’d share the reaction to Danny’s rendition of “Oh Holy Night,” which I sent to pretty much everyone in my electronic address book.
I’m not sure I converted anyone to a Danny fan, but the feedback overall was positive. My coworker and his wife said, “Nice voice. Thanks for sharing that.” Other friends said, “It was very enjoyable”; “Beautiful song!”; “It was beautiful. Oh Holy Night is one of my favorite X-mas songs. I especially like the part about ‘fall on your knees.’”
One friend said, “Gave me goosebumps!” I didn’t expect that comment from that particular friend, since I’ve never had any indication that she is even that fond of music generally.
And Dee, the Adam fan from NJ that I stay in contact with, said, “Danny did a great job with Oh Holy Night — one of my favorite X-mas songs.”
(I was surprised how many people mentioned that Oh Holy Night was a favorite.)

Ellen B. on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 10:42 pm
Hey GokeyGuy, welcome back! Hope you had a nice holiday!
Connie, I think Arbitron is right. Since I started listening to country radio stations, I had noticed that established artists seem to move up the chart of lot faster (regardless of the quality of the song, especially vis-a-vis songs by new or unknown artists); that (at least generally) uptempo songs do better; and that a lot more male country artists are played than female artists. It may be that there are just more of them (male country singers), or there may be some other dynamic going on. But although the female artists are fewer in number, the big-name ones (Carrie, Reba) do very well for themselves.
And yes, generally it does take a while to climb the charts. I think Lady A’s songs were out quite a while before they reached the top of the charts. (As popular as Lady A is, it’s easy to forget that they are a fairly new group.)

I think another reason Danny’s digital downloads aren’t that high is because his fans are less likely to purchase music on iTunes than they are to buy his album. Kris, Adam and Allison all have more teenage fans who buy all their music digitally. Danny’s fans tend to run older than Allison and Kris’s fans and his middle aged fans probably are waiting for his album to come out.

I think 8,000 is pretty respectable too. Its as much as Allison had with all her young teenies, once you take away the 1000 downloads of that Kradison fan. (Wow, $4000 just to support them; pretty nice, I’d say).
I do have the feeling there are a lot of Danny fans who don’t even know he has a single out. Unless you are on a fan site or twitter (in other words, hard core) you wouldn’t know.
Lizzy, is right, though, we can’t be complacent, have to keep requesting our radio stations. Also, Danny could wind up like Adam, where his album is doing better than his 3 singles so far.
I found that very interesting that the huge Danny fan DJ Lizzy got to play MBD for said it was “Against the rules”. Perhaps Sony hasn’t gone for adds everywhere yet. Maybe they have a deliberate plan of going very slowly, def. trying to treat him like a new artist.

helio, you just described me in your message too! Only reason I have MBD as an mp3 is because it came as a package deal with the pre-order of Danny’s album on DGO!

Hello all–good to hear that Danny sold 8000 downloads–gosh with only 20 fans (per the haters on other sites) that means each of us bought 400 copies (I’m a slacker I only bought 4…..but I preordered the album, too.)
Great comments to Mighty, Helio. This site makes me smile. So, for the uneducated: me. How do I get foxfire???? I miss all the cool stuff Erika puts on this site.
Since it was kinda of a slow news day when I lurked at 4PM, i went out to the May archives–man, was it a busy time on Iheart! I don’t think I started lurking until June and didn’t post until late August (in preparation for the Madison AI live show). I’m going to burn up some of my 5g of internet by doing some cruising through the archives.
Erika, like you, I burn up my internet limit by the &&^%ads when ever I refresh my page–but I understand its the price of a cool site like this.
Welcome back, Pam. Were your ears burning last night? Maryann & I were obsessing over hot danny photos and I used a few of you as my barometer of “naughty” from “the days” of the AI tour. By comparison we were very, very tame.
Happy eve of New Years eve, all! Jan

Hi GG; haven’t seen you in a while; hope you had a nice holiday!
I def. think Adam fans helped out Allison with her sales. This is interesting;
http://tweeter.faxo.com/Best_American_Idol_Ever
A fan at another site posted it -its another tweeter contest (groan, yes, I am so burnt out on those!. Esp. since I heard about all the cheating that goes on- a bunch of Adam fans said how they unplug their computer boxes so they can continually vote!) But anyway, my point is that Allison is way up there; at #4- now how can that be when she doesn’t have a ton of twitter followers and certainly not enough fans to keep her on the charts at all. I just think she gets a lot of help from some Adam fans. Which is nice; but just keeping digital sales in perspective.

Hi Jan!
Lol, no my ears were too cold to burn! Yes, its true, we were much “spicier” as Latrece would call it back then. GG can attest to that; we had to explain some of our naughty expressions to him.
I think if you just google Mozilla Foxfire it will get you to their site and it should have a place to click on “Free download”. If I recall, it was fast and easy. I have IE and Mozilla Foxfire on my computer, but just use the Foxfire.

What does “burning up” Internet limit mean? Both Erika and Jannikas made some mention of this.
Ellen B. on Wed, 30th Dec 2009 11:59 pm
If you Google, I think it’s Mozilla Firefox, NOT Foxfire? A techie coworker always corrects me about that!

Ellen, Erika and Pam, I’m back and I just got back from loading Mozilla’s firefox! It was very quick and EVERTHING that I love about this site is back! (Well except John (PuertoRockin) and Danny lurking, perhaps….)
Somehow I think I’m showing my age by getting it confused with foxfire…..

Congrats Jan, isn’t it great that we have all these helpers that help us techno challenged out? Erika is the queen! And find all the Danny info for us? We are so lucky.
Ellen, yes, its Mozilla Foxfire. Burning up internet I think is when you only have so many minutes of Internet time on your plan. Carole always mentions that too.

Ellen, I don’t have unlimited internet use. Every video I download (including annoying, unwanted ads) uses a certain amount of MB. I only get 5 GB of internet use per month. With the radio tour and AI tour, there was so much video to watch I got very close to having to pay surcharges on my monthly bill. I have had to leave my computer off sometimes to “catch” back up to a normal usage for the time of the month. Its hard to do on a danny addiction—I have used the public library’s internet when I can’t fight it and want to stay on budget, LOL. jan

Okay, Pam, that’s kinda what I thought “burning up” meant. I think I have unlimited usage, although I also think that if I was on the Internet 24/7, my ISP would not be happy and would probably be contacting me.
Ellen B. on Thu, 31st Dec 2009 12:14 am
Jannikas, also thanks for the clarification! I probably need to pay more attention to my own use, just on general principle.

Pam, I didn’t download MBD from itunes because there is nothing to download it TO. Certainly not my laptop with it’s cheezy little speaker. And I don’t have an iphone or any kind of MP3 player. I’m just not into or used to digital downloads. I want hard copies of all my music such as CD format. Unfortunately there are no CD singles anymore, which is such a pity.

Shirl, I bought some great Bose headphones because my laptop has pitiful speakers, too. Downloaded music sounds great if you have good headphones…..(am I trying to sell some Gokey singles? Yes I am. Shameless, I know.) Jan

I know, Shirl, I was just teasing you, since you were brave enough to admit not buying it
That is one of the things we’ve discussed, that Danny fans are either older or are not on the internet and that is why his sales could be better. And like Lizzy said, Danny fans can be complacent (one reason he was voted off top 3 week); Adam has many fans who buy the single many, many times just to support him.
Album sales are more important than single sales, and I hope Danny fans come through for him.
But single sales help drive album sales, so hopefully Danny will go up on the charts from single purchasers once he gets more radio play.

Hi everyone.
Pjgvet
You bring up good points about single sales and album sales, they are both very important. And I think that a lot of Danny’s fans aren’t online, and might be older too.
