USA Today: Idols gain from post-Christmas download spike

December 30, 2009 by Owlki

Just about every track in Nielsen SoundScan’s list of last week’s most-downloaded digital tracks more than doubled its sales from the previous week, as folks hit their computers to spend their Christmas money and gift cards. Which American Idol star benefited most from the post-Christmas download boom? That would be Carrie Underwood, who saw weekly sales of Cowboy Casanova go from nearly 33,000 to just over 124,000 — a 278 percent week-over-week sales increase that made Cowboy Casanova the best-selling Idol track of the week and No. 21 over all.

Jordin Sparks, though, saw the biggest percentage increase of any Idol in the top 200: Her Battlefield jumped from a little more than 9,000 copies to more than 51,000 — a whopping 448 percent gain!

Carrie Underwood, Cowboy Casanova (124,000, +278 percent, 833,000)
Kris Allen, Live Like We’re Dying (109,000, +171 percent, 399,000)
Kelly Clarkson, Already Gone (87,000, +125 percent, 1.005 million)
Daughtry, Life After You (51,000, +111 percent, 156,000)
Jordin Sparks, Battlefield [Main Version] (51,000, +448 percent, 1.245 million)
Adam Lambert, Whataya Want From Me (46,000, +127 percent, 97,000)
Adam Lambert, For Your Entertainment (30,000, +95 percent, +175,000)
Daughtry, No Surprise (23,000, +236 percent, 955,000)

Sales update: Danny Gokey’s My Best Days Are Ahead of Me debuted with 8,000 track sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Thanks to @CallieGokey, the mystery of the stunning glowing picture has been solved [sounds like a Sherlock Holmes story title...]. They belong to Woodlabel Photography and it was posted on their blog. I can’t wait to see that video!

Here are a couple shots on location for a video shoot in downtown Nashville with Danny Gokey (American Idol). I was honored to help out videographer J. Edwards on such an important shoot. The video will promote Gokey’s non-profit, Sophia’s Heart which helps families and children in need (www.sophiasheart.org).

There are two other pictures there, both stunning as well so be sure to check them out HERE.

*Update*

Looks like Erika already had this on the calendar for 7pm. I don’t remember seeing and can’t find a post about it so I apologize if this is duplicate info.

Looks like Danny will be in Milwaukee for New Year’s Eve. According to his pastor, he’ll be singing at their service at Faith Builders in Milwaukee.  I wasn’t able to find info on times of the service so if you have info, let us know!

The Mercy Health Foundation raised $447,000 for stereotatic breast biopsy equipment, among other research materials, at its 16th annual O’ Night Divine Charity Ball, according to a press release by the Mercy Health System of Northwest Arkansas.

The event, held at the John Q. Hammons Center in Rogers on Dec. 5, began when Dick “Dickey Ray” Trammel asked guests to join the “Dickey Ray Club,” an effort to raise a set amount of money in a set period of time to be used for a very specific project.

This year, Dickey Ray’s goal was to raise $150,000 for stereotatic breast biopsy equipment. The Dickey Ray Club raised $152,000, the largest total in the history of the event.

The live auction raised a total of $57,000, matching last year’s total. Former Dallas Cowboys player Darren Woodson attended the event and signed a jersey that sold for $15,700.

“American Idol” finalist Danny Gokey performed a few songs he has not yet released.

Gokey also expressed the importance of charity as he mentioned his charity for children, which he began in memory of his deceased wife.

The top sponsors of the event included Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Lee and Linda Scott, General Mills, Don and Jo Soderquist, White Cloud, Anheuser-Busch and Tyson Foods Inc.
