ROGERS — “American Idol” semifinalist Danny Gokey will headline this year’s O Night Divine Charity Ball on Dec. 5, Mercy Health Foundation officials announced at a news conference Friday.
Tabi Lipscomb, foundation board member, said that while last year’s event featured a country music legend, Martina McBride, organizers are excited to have a performer who is just launching his professional career.
Gokey was the third-place finalist in the 2009 season, finishing behind Adam Lambert and winner Kris Allen.
The former church music director from Milwaukee, Wis., signed a record deal with 19 Recordings/RCA Nashville in September and is expected to release his first CD in 2010.
Gokey’s first single will be released on Dec. 8, just days after the fundraiser, said Clark Ellison, foundation executive director.
The Mercy Health Foundation assists Mercy Health System in providing charity care, equipment purchases and health education programs. In 2009 the health system has provided approximately $16 million in charity care through Mercy Medical Center, The Gardens at Osage Terrace assisted living center and 22 medical clinics in Northwest Arkansas and southwest Missouri.
Ellison has said 1,300 patrons are expected at the black-tie event at the John Q. Hammons Center in Rogers. Tickets for the ball are $200 and are available by calling 338-2932.
