This week, the top four positions on our American Idol chart remain the same. Kelly Clarkson’s Already Gone continues to pick up spins — it’s currently in the top 10 of both the Hot AC and Top 40 formats. Carrie Underwood’s Cowboy Casanova also increased its spins, though Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now replaced it at the top of USA TODAY’s Mediabase-powered country chart. Maybe that’s because most of the single’s growth came over at the Hot AC format, where Cowboy Casanova currently sits at No. 45. (Can you say “crossover hit”?) Daughtry’s No Surprise and Jordin Sparks’ Battlefield follow in the Idol chart’s third and fourth slots.
Kris Allen leads the Season 8 Idols, as Live Like We’re Dying makes the Idol-airplay top five. But the three other top finishers are on the chart, as well. Adam Lambert moves from No. 50 to No. 39 with For Your Entertainment, and Whataya Want From Me makes its debut at No. 69. Allison Iraheta’s Friday I’ll Be Over U drops two spots while picking up spins. And Danny Gokey’s It’s Only makes its debut on our chart at No. 96.
Daughtry’s Country Music Association Awards performance with Vince Gill put Tennessee Line on the country charts at No. 69 (No. 72 on the Idol airplay chart). But Daughtry fans shouldn’t get their hopes up for multi-format success for their favorite smooth-domed dude: Several other CMA performances saw a similar level of airplay, so it’s likely a one-week phenomenon.
Also, holiday tunes continue to decorate our chart like flocking on a Christmas tree as Hot AC stations across the country flip formats for the season. This week’s highest-ranking Christmas track: Kelly Clarkson’s My Grown Up Christmas List.
