Wow, I read from Steph on AI forums that Danny has 169,000 already on his new facebook page! I guess I will have to give in and go join. Great pics from the DC event. WOW!! I just became a fan on Danny’s facebook yesterday evening and he had 10,000+ fans. How did it grow to over 160,000 in such a short time? I tried to click on the link this morning and it is unavailable for a short time. Wonder if TPTB are still working on updating it.

I will say this, now that Danny has collaborated with the Dream Center, perfect timing! because the population that they serve at the dream Center are Hispanics and African Americans! they love soulful music even if it is wrapped in Country; Danny is young, hip and current, rumor is going to spread like wild fire!! of Danny’s Single comimg out, there are a lot of young people comnected to the DREAM Center, they are going to be Stoked over Danny!! Danny’s official Facebook profile is offline now. When I first went to that page last night, it said he had around 130,000 fans registered. The number was just flying up in the hour or two I was online and went back to look. It was almost 169,000 last I checked.

I hope those were valid numbers and not an error they are fixing now with his profile online. Or maybe the fan surge broke his account, lol.
I looked up Kris, he has some 270 thousand fans on his official Facebook, Adam’s is in the three hundred thousand range. So not inconceivable at all that Danny could get as many as it seemed, it just threw me as I don’t know how people would be finding out about it except word of mouth (or some service inside Facebook that would tip off current members?).
Danny himself hasn’t said anything about it on his twitter yet.

I hope they get the FB back up; I hope they announce the release of his Single sometime soon, I wonder what are they waiting for to announce his release date for his single? we want people to be very excited about the release of his Single! so many doors are opening for Danny, that is jut awesome! I am sure his management team is doing everything they can to get ready for new Single release ( photos, FB, Myspace) so when it is time for the announcement, they will have the communication in place to let Danny’s fans know/aware of his Single being released!

Hello to all Gokey fans! Just wishing you a beautiful day filled with positive thoughts and Danny news. I’m leaving work earlier than usual and therefore my time in Dannyland will be very short today.
I’m really happy seeing things falling into place for Danny and I’m sure that we’ll soon be very busy trying to follow all news coming in.

So thrilled to hear of Danny’s success with his new facebook account. Hopefully, all these fans will be in the purchasing mood soon enough!
It would seem that there is no such thing as a surprise anymore when it comes to record sales. All the sneak previews, information about songs and song writers, as well as, the producers. Mj now has up a post about Amazon Germany providing 25 second clips of every song on KA’s soon to be released album. I’m not so sure this kind of thing truly helps an artist to move their sales, particularly when the clips are just not that dynamic.

I wonder if they will even telecast the half time show? I think most sports shows don’t ever show halftime. But they might show the National Anthem.

I don’t think that any of the regular sports channels are showing the Bucks game. I checked the guide for Saturday, and the game will not be showed on ESPN or ESPN2. Maybe the parts with Danny will get taped by someone and show up on the Internet somewhere?
you know I have an idea!! I wonder can we purchase both Elliot Yamin and Danny’s music from itunes?? Elliot is a great Singer and it would be a shame to see a good artist like him fall thru the cracks; we can support our baby Danny and give Elliot Yamin a little boost in sales!! well it’s an idea. I would love to see them do a duet together, they would turn the ladies Wild together!! however, I would love to see him do another duet with Lionel Richie, John Legend and Definitely sweet Carrie Underwood!!
I saw that the thread about Adam’s album cover on mjs got even more comments in it. There are definitely a lot of people who wanted to comment on that album cover.
What do you guys want Danny’s album cover to look like? I definitely don’t want to him to be airbrushed a whole lot like Adam’s picture was. I wouldn’t mind seeing him standing up on his album cover, like full shot of him and not just his face. Or maybe he could be shown leaning against something, like David Nail did on his album cover.

Danny is such a beautiful man. The fact that MLK is his hero, really touched me.
The haters could have a field day with me, because I have some strong feelings when it comes to my faith and my admiration of Danny. I see him to possess great gifts. He is courageous, disciplined, and competent. He possesses the extraordinary ability to truly know what it means to love, and he is driven by this immense love to serve those in need. For this reason an more, I am his biggest fan.
He is my hero, but hey, you all already knew that!

Also, yesterday on the Fuse Channel I saw Adam speaking on the red carpet about at “This Is It” premiere. I wonder if there is footage of Danny anywhere on the red carpet. He did hang out with that guy from E, so maybe there is footage of him at the premiere somewhere.

Shirl it seems like you are already a member of Danny’s official Facebook page, especially since it let you post your picture up there. If you clicked on something that said something like Become a fan on that page, then you should be a member of Danny’s official page.
And if you sign out and then sign back into Facebook and it shows the Danny group listed at the top of your page, then I think that means that you are a member. I believe that the group being listed on your page, means that you have joined it.

Pam, you can definitely see Danny’s soulpatch on Gokeyguy’s gravitar. It’s that little patch of hair right below his lower lip but does not include his chin hair (goatee).
FYI: If you use Twitter, it’s a good idea to check your incoming DM’s on your page because some of them are not being sent as an email alert that you have one.
I complained to Twitter about it and they are working on it but just so you know…..I found a few DMs that had been sent to me a week ago, and didn’t know I got them because I didn’t receive an email alert to let me know.

Im back! well well well… Adam’s TFM is number 89 today on itunes! just remember ladies, when Danny’s single comes out, don’t expect too much! the important thing is if his single goes down further down the charts, its not the end of the world for us. Like Adam’s single, it loses its hype, every other artists experiences this. The TRUE statistic of success is how you stay longer on the music business . WOW Dee You should probably go back and read my comment again. I am amazed that you interpreted my comment that way. It was the complete OPPOSITE of what you are saying. I was saying that it BOTHERS me that people try to define everybody who is religious as narrow minded, hypocritical, and extreme. It is unfair when that happens because it is so NOT TRUE. But, are you trying to say there are not extremists in all religions? Whether it is Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Catholic, throughout history there have always been extremists – so extreme that they even kill in the name of religion. What I was saying is that the MAJORITY of people from ALL religions are NOT narrowminded or hypocritical. I said that there is a wide spectrum of religious beliefs and it is UNFAIR to try to speculate where one might fall in that spectrum. I celebrate the diversity of beliefs and I am the last person to ever make a judgement of anyone based on their religious beliefs whether I agree with them or not. My God tells me to judge not, and He teaches me to treat people as I would want to be treated and that no man is lesser or better than any other.
I stated that the HATERS were the ones who are exhibiting narrowminded and were hypocritical because they are doing exactly what they accuse Danny and his fans of being. AND Where on earth did I say that only regligious “nuts” support Danny. I NEVER said anything of the kind. NEVER used that word, never implied that in any way. You must be mixing my statements up with someone elses. I will say because YOU bring that up from out of the blue, that there are HATERS who believe that Danny’s supporters and Danny himself are all religious people and conservative politically. I thing that HELIO pointed this out in one of her comments and I agree with her that that is not true. Danny has fans from every religious and political spectrum. I and my husband are proof of that. I am very liberal politically as is my husband and my husband is also very, very religious. And I resent ANYONE making any kind of judgement about me or my husband or ANYONE else based on our political or religious beliefs. Who am I to presume anything about Danny or anybody else. I don’t know him, and it does not matter to me what his political or relgious beliefs are. I love Danny for the kind of human being he is and for how he turns his commitment to his faith and ideals into action to do good in the world.
I feel bad that you would think I am making any kind of judgement on any one because of their religious beliefs or their political beliefs. As a matter of fact YOU are the one who is critical of President Obama and have stated it in your conmments. I have NEVER said a negative comment about ANY religious or political figure because I don’t believe that it is appropriate to criticize someone for liking a particular political or religious figure who represents their own beliefs.

Let me make very clear to anyone else who might think the same way that Dee does. I celebrate the diversity of opinion given about all subjects on this site. I have never and will never judge anyone on your religion, your politics or any other beliefs you might have. I am almost in tears thinking that anybody here would believe that I have an opinion of any of you that is based on your belief system. My own family has a wide variety of religious and political beliefs and I love and respect each and every one of them in the same way, just as I love and respect every one of you for your opinions (that includes you Dee).
What really hurts is that if anyone from Danny’s circle of friends or family were to lurk here and see Dee’s MISREPRESENTATION of anything I have said in any of my comments, especially because the comments were from a previous day and they may not go back and read the REAL TRUTH of what I said, that they might think she is speaking the truth and that I truly am the kind of vile person she is representing me to be. Stephanie You can come back to the site. Dee was stating an opinion to which she is entitled and I was just addressing some things that I felt I needed to clear up on my end in case there was anyone who thought I was being disprespectful. I have had my say and I am ready to move on.
I see that Danny tweeted about an hour ago! I wish we knew who he is working with and he hasn’t mentioned how many songs he has recorded. Wonder how many are finished and if he has selected which song he will release as his first single? Danny seems so much quieter about the writers and producers of his songs than some of the other idols were. I guess he intends to surprise us!
Dee was double teamed so I just wanted to show some support. But I hope you guys can work out your rift so we can all go back to discussing our love for danny. I dont want this dispute to lead to the downturn of the site…

Latrece and Shirl I did not get a chance to chime in earlier about what kind of cover I want for Danny’s CD. After seeing that picture from the event at DC, I think I would like to see him leaning up against maybe a fence with his legs crossed in the front, or one leg propped up against the fence, with a short sleeve shirt on that shows off his humongous guns and I’m still not sure about the glasses. I know they are his signature so he may want to wear them, but I would also love to see him holding the glasses and looking into the camera with his smoldering eyes.

I really do believe Danny is in the initial stages of developing his eyewear; I don’t think appearing occassionally without his glasses or taking photos without his glasses are going to take away from his signature look with the eyewear. I think he will be fine, sometimes we can over do something and the mystic out of it. Danny is a gorgeous man and his eyes period is his signature look!! I can’t wait to see photos!!

Hi, Cheryl, I’m a part-time lurker, but I do feel like I know most of you. This is a great place to be. I love anything Danny, including those pictures. When bad feelings have been created, one can’t just say, “Oops, we opened up a can of worms. Let’s all move on,” without dealing with the bad feelings that have been created. It’s not going to go away by ignoring it.
That is one reason why I have cut back drastically on posting at this site. I know I am going to regret this post, but I’m not sure I care anymore.
I’m not surprised that Dee finally “broke.” I’ve seen this coming for a long time. Some people continually bring up the subject of their political beliefs, without any clear acknowledgement that there may be others on the site who disagree. I’ve seen Dee (and others) attempt, time and time again, through quiet, oblique comments and sometimes through good-natured ribbing, to prod people to realize that we don’t all think alike on the subject.
What is at issue is not what Cheryl said or what Dee said. Those comments are an escalation of what has been going on at this site for a while now. At times I have found the site oppressive.
What we all need is a big time-out. And we need to take a deep breath, and try to shrug off our defensiveness (on both sides of the aisle). That said, we can’t sweep things under the rug, either.
Dee has a legitimate beef. I saw Cheryl’s post, and didn’t say anything, because I know in my heart that Cheryl meant well and truly didn’t see how her post could sound to someone who didn’t share her beliefs.
But after a while, the implicit assumptions that we all agree do tend to grate. I’m not entirely sure what the solution is. We should feel free to express our views, and we shouldn’t have to walk on eggshells, either. But there has to be a way to acknowledge our views without assuming that everyone agrees with them.
For what is is worth, I had a colleague who constantly made comments that reflected his political beliefs. It felt like the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard, and I finally spelled out to him, in so many words, that I didn’t share his political beliefs. He handled it well, and we both used humor to defuse hard feelings and lighten the situation. We became friends (even though he often teased me that really, I agreed with him).
So it IS possible to get beyond this.
And for those who are interested, I view myself as a fiscally-conservative moderate — an extinct species, perhaps?

Ellen, just read your post and I agree, for the most part.
But it is difficult sometimes for people to “hide” their beliefs.
I know Cheryl is an obvious liberal, but I do see Dee and Nancy making very obvious political statements too. Its quite obvious they are conservative politically and religiously from statements they’ve made. And statements they’ve made have not just been in response to Cheryl. It really does depend what your point of view is as to how you take someones statement, even if they think they are being oblique or good natured. And I know I have probably made my views known also, even though I THINK I’m trying to not be obnoxious, I’m sure I fail at times.
Very few have mastered that art; Steph6449 seems able to do it; I can tell she is a conservative, yet manages not to shove it under anyone’s nose. Maybe she can give us all pointers, lol.
IMO, the solution is gently mentioning when things are getting too “political” (without others putting the mentioner down or telling them to take a joke, as has happened here) and not attacking people on a personal level. If we walk on eggshells too much, life can get boring.

Ellen I am sorry that you are very unhappy with the way things are going on this site; I am sure you are a devoted Danny fan. I am not sure what you were implying by “bad feelings” I know we often have disagreements here, but “bad feelings” denotes some form of resentment, animosity or deep unresovled issue. I do not agree with everything someone says on here but I make attempts at gently trying to convey my different point of view. Maybe I am blind or gullible but I can’t recall anyone pushing their political views on anyone; we are fully aware that there are conservatives and liberals here. I know we poke fun that obama is Me and Cheryl’s boyfriend; however, we don’t expect everyone to have the same feelings, I feel strongly that it is Ok for a Gokey member not to favor Obama’s views at all!!
However, a part of dealing with conflict is not waiting for a conflict to arise for the purpose of venting and adding more to an already sensitive moment. I am not sure if you want to resolve your feelings or you just want to continue expressing your grief; do you want things to improve?? if so, where would you like to begin in order for us to make things better for everyone?? I am opening the door for some resolution to the “bad feelings”.

I certainly hope, as I said to Dee, that I have not been disrespectful to anyone’s opinions here, anyone’s religion, or anyone who has a particular political stance. I find it hard to believe that saying something about the President of our United States is in any anyway offensive or disrespectful to anyone. Very, very sad if it is true that someone could be offended by positive comments about a fellow human being. I have never said anything negative about ANY President, any political person, any person on this site, any religious figure, etc. I believe there is a difference between me saying something POSITIVE about the President of our country compared to others who have said they CRINGED when Danny mentioned something positive about the President in his blog or someone who said they couldn’t stand seeing Danny’s name and the Presidents’ name in the same sentence. Does it mean Danny is being disrespectful to people who read his blog when he brought up President Obama and said Yes We Can? I hope nobody was offended by Danny! In the past I have only mentioned the President in the context of how handsome I think he is and how I have pictures of him on my desk. If that is considered disprespectful than that is sad. I don’t think I have ever once had a discussion about the President’s politics.
I don’t know what anyone’s political beliefs are unless they tell me. I certainly don’t find it offensive or disrespectful if someone says they are conservative, liberal centrist, libertarian. Should I? If you are saying that my being admiring of the President is offensive to people then are you also saying that I should be offended by someone being a conservative? I would hope not. I have absolutely no problem with anyone’s political beliefs – we are all entitled to them. I don’t think I have ever gotten into a political discussion with anyone on site where I have been negative about their beliefs. I certainly don’t intend to ever be negative about someone’s beliefs.
I love the diversity of opinions expressed on this site. I love that we are able to share our love for Danny with each other, especially because we come from all different backgrounds – young, older, black, white, conservative, liberal, various professions, students, male, female, American, International, etc. I celebrate our differences because it shows that Danny and his talent attracts all kinds of people. I love that Danny is the tie that binds all of us together and I would be sad to see that unity be broken because of people feeling disrespected by each other.
So, again, if I have offended anyone or been disrespectful of anyone then I apologize because truly it was never my intention to be disrespectful by showing my admiration for the HOTNESS of my TWO boyfriends!

Okay, for one I do consider myself a very liberal democrat, just gonna put that out there and let that be it. You know, there are 2 things that seem to divide people faster than anything that I’ve seen, and that’s politics and religion. Its so sad that some people (not saying that its anyone here, just generalizing) seem to rethink people once they find out their political or religious preference.
As far as I’m concerned, I’m gonna go with Danny when he says that “its not a political movement, its not a religious movement, its a LOVE movement!”
Omigosh, I am sitting here as green as grass! What comments did I make? I have deliberately stayed out of the conversation on political views. I come here to discuss anything and everything Danny.
However, since my name was brought up – I am going to give my opinion for whatever it is worth. I do not think this is the forum to discuss political views. We are all here to talk about Danny. Some of us are conservative (myself included), some are liberal and some don’t care one way or another. I think it is unwise to discuss political views here because IMO we do not want to alienate any of Danny’s fans. We all need to stick to together to support Danny’s career – he needs us.
One thing to add: Danny is going into country music and although not all country fans are conservative many are. I would not want to scare away new fans who may be lurking.

I hope Dee continues with us and I think maybe we should eliminate the term narrow mindedness for being used here because there are strong coservatives here who do have very strong belief about social issues; however, they do not want the term narrow minded to be implied to their conservative views. I am not a liberal ( surprise!!), however, I respect everyone’s views and belief systems. I am flexible in my tolerance towards other people’s opinions. I read this earlier while I was skimming through Twitter but going back, I saw it again….and got all teary-eyed. I feel like such a sentimental wuss! But when you think about it, you can just read between the lines to see how happy Danny is with how nicely things are falling into place for him.
After all he has been through with losing his dear Sophia, then trying to keep up with AI and find new songs every single week, then enduring all the hatred and controversy on the Internet….it is such a JOY to see where he has finally arrived today!
I am just overjoyed for him and I am also extremely overwhelmed right now…..need to go grab a few kleenex!!!!

I was DRAGGED into this conversation when Cheryl directed her post to me for absolutely no reason at all. Why do I need an explanation?? Can someone explain that to me. When have I ever said anthing that doesn’t have to do with Danny. I just didn’t want my name dragged into this conversation because I wasn’t involved.
Wow. It makes me sad that there has been infighting between Dannyfans on this board of late. I am sure it is due to boredom over the lack of news. Conversations are getting more off topic as a result, and issues that we’re not all united about are surfacing, showing our differences instead of our mutual love of Danny.
That said, I would like to add my two cents.
1. Since we all have different political/religious beliefs, I think these issues are best left off this site, as they are sensitive, personal issues and are bound to cause dissent and hard feelings.
2. I think certain people are being too sensitive, seeing themselves as being attacked for their beliefs when in fact they are not. I did not find anything remotely offensive about Cheryl’s posts. It was clear to me she was referring to the HATERS stereotyping Dannyfans, not fans on this board. Dee, I am not attacking you at all and I respect your beliefs, but I don’t think Cheryl was talking about you at all or dissing what you believe in any way.
3. Everyone has a right to believe what they want, and we should all respect each other’s opinions, even if we disagree. But I see absolutely nothing wrong with being an Obama fan and admitting it. Danny has done the same, so if he can admit he likes certain political figures, so can we. We just can’t diss those we don’t care for as much, because someone else may like those people.

I don’t mind talking about anything else here but I’m not gonna go out of my way to offended anyone. Anything beyond that, I probably won’t come on as much, so it’s all good on my end. Let’s just try and be cool w/each other and have the usual, fun yet sometimes serious discussions when it involves Danny.

This is long, so apologies on that, first. I’m not sure which comment Dee was responding to. Nothing struck me especially today before that conversation began, but to be honest there was a sequence of posts yesterday that caught my notice. I wrote a short comment about them, without directing it to anyone in particular (didn’t really notice whose posts those were, and I won’t be going back to look today).
It’s hard to interpret from just written comments online, so I will certainly not question anyone’s explanation of what they believe or meant to say. There were comments yesterday saying it’s unfair for someone to describe Danny and his fans as conservative | narrow-minded | fundamentalist Christians, mostly on the grounds that they really may be liberal, areligious, or anywhere else along the continuum of religious belief besides conservative. As far as that goes, I’d agree that those attacks make an assumption of Danny’s views are, which we don’t really know and probably don’t need to know.
What bothered me was that I did not see anyone questioning the *second* assumption that’s included in those attacks — that conservative views == narrow-minded views. That was the comment I posted, that the two should not be automatically linked. One can be conservative in any area as a matter of principle. Politically, a lot of conservatives simply believe those approaches work better to achieve the same results liberals try to achieve through their preferred approaches. That’s more where I came in, my family were all liberal union Democrats and I adopted that for quite a while without giving it a second thought. It wasn’t until my 30s that I started to think about it afresh, and moved to more conservative views politically. (My pro-union Democratic lobbyist mother is still scandalized!) I didn’t become a Christian either in any meaningful way until post-9/11, and am still trying to figure out where I fit into the bewildering array of churches and what they believe.
What I read yesterday made me think again of our past conversations about the media types who liked to play up the idea that Danny was the ‘bad’ Christian who should be questioned and possibly rejected (assuming #1 that he is conservative, and #2 that conservative is bad – the first may or may not be true, I hope most here would accept that the second is simply not true). While Kris based on Kradam lore/etc. is claimed by the media as the ‘good’ Christian they can love (assuming #1 he is liberal, and #2 liberal is good). I’m pretty sure Cheryl was one of the people who was discussing that with me one day, and she said very clearly she thought that was wrong which I really appreciated.
Just my thoughts, and hope this won’t break Pam’s image after reading her very nice comment earlier.

I have certainly not agreed with many things said, but I find it fascinating to hear other viewpoints. I have been chastised more than once here for being over exuberant (tactless perhaps?) or wanting people to take offense less easily, but have tried to take my own advice to not take offense (
Dee and fellow conservatives, I honestly don’t think Cheryl or any other liberals think everyone thinks like they do; and I agree with Latrece and Danni that expressing admiration for a president (never has she discussed his policies here) is too political, esp. considering the fact that Obama is from Chicago (so somewhat of a hometown hero to Chicagoans Cheryl and Latrece, just as Danny is to us Milwaukeeans here), our first African American President and Cheryl and Latrece’s (who just confessed she is NOT a liberal BTW) infatuation is just as much about fangirliness. If you want to say that Rush Limbaugh is your boyfriend, it would not offend me and I certainly wouldn’t dream of saying something nasty about him here after you expressed your admiration. And if Danny quoted Rush in admiration, I may not agree, but because I love DAnny and he would admire him I would not be negative.
Just food for thought, as you consider why you feel so offended.

Nah, STeph 6449, you reinforced my opinion of your clear headed posting style.
I think if people would re-read Cheryl’s post they would see that indeed, as she claims, she was referring to people who VIEW conservative religious people as narrow minded etc. Danny is conservative religiously (we think, altho prob. not in all respects) and she was saying that haters buy into the wrong STEREOTYPE that conservative people are narrow minded. She was defending every religion, and trying to dispel stereotypes of religious people by listing the liberal attributes of her very religious husband (BTW no where did she say he was “correct” in his views!).
I think that is why Cheryl felt pretty attacked/betrayed because she felt she was defending Danny and all people of faith (saying his haters were the hypocritical ones for being narrow minded about people of faith, NOT that people of faith were that way). If you read my post a little way before that you will see I said the same thing; she was just expounding on my post. I think you will see that their are others here that read her post the same way I took it.
I just want to say that I really appreciate everyone here for being so willing to put it out on the table!
We may not agree on every aspect of life, but what I love about every single person here is their PASSION! Just like Danny

Okay Pam, you just stepped in it with comparing admiration for President Obama with admiration/boyfriend of Rush Limbaugh. Once again the stereotype that being conservative equates with Rush Limbaugh. I agree with Helio and Steph that it is best to leave the political talk off this site because there is nothing more devisive than politics. And if I could offer any advise to Danny it would be to not mention anything even remotely political or a slight hint of his views because we all remember what happened to the Dixie Chics when they dissed President Bush.

It’s interesting reading the two articles about the Sophia’s Heart youth center. Pam, did you see the TWOP hater who was suggesting Danny and SHF weren’t actually doing anything at the Dream Center besides taking credit for work that had already been done? I’m sure there is more than that, although the articles don’t spell it out that well.
It also struck me earlier today that Danny did sing at that event (no videos yet?). That seems to be a sign he has a lot more flexibility than he did while under the AI regimen when it seemed that he wasn’t allowed to sing a note except on an AI platform.
One more thing I want to add, Steph, and then I’m bowing out of the political discussion. The haters assuming that Christian=narrowminded=homophobic and intolerant is just as misguided as those who label all liberals as immoral or amoral and family values-hating. Both views are very misguided because people cannot be pigeonholed that easily. There are Christians who are very openminded and tolerant and then there are those “crazed” ones who would kill in the name of religion. Same goes for Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Wiccans, and atheists. They run the gamut from liberal/openminded to militant and intolerant. There are atheists so narrowminded in their views that they can tolerate no mention of God or religion at all. Then there are those that are good people and accepting of other views. There are crazies in ALL walks of life–and unfortunately Christians are not exempt, even if the majority are not that way. As long as humans are imperfect, there will be no “perfect” belief system, or one that is devoid of hatred and intolerance. At the same time, almost every belief system has its good points. Almost every religion and belief system has at its core the belief in something larger than ourselves, whether it’s one God or multiple gods, or merely a Higher Intelligence, as well as the desire to be good people in this life and follow the “Golden Rule.” (an exception might be Satanists). If your belief works for you, then it’s the right one for you. We all need to learn to be tolerant of other belief systems, because it’s our failure to do so that has led to much of the war, strife and suffering throughout human history.
Off that subject, I have another theory about the Danny hate. I’ve always been interesting in demographics and the generations, and Danny, being born in 1980, is a late member of Gen-X. He was the oldest on the show this season, and the only contestant belonging to that generation. All the others are members of the Millennial (Gen Y) generation. Gen-Xers have always gotten a bad rap, and have a reputation of being dumb, unmotivated, lazy, nihilistic, hedonistic, and greedy for money but nothing else. While haters were probably not consciously thinking this, it’s interesting that he’s the only AI8 finalist who is still a member of that “bad” generation, while the others are members of a “good” generation that has been more positively portrayed in the media and popular culture. As a member of the X generation myself (although on the older side of it than Danny is), I have felt the brunt of the intolerance toward us by those older and younger, and the lack of faith adults had in us when we were younger.
Of course Danny doesn’t fit the stereotype of his generation at all, but perhaps he’s perceived as such because of his age. I don’t know how much this really has to do with the hate toward him, but it’s still kind of interesting.

In celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the L.A. Dream Center an outreach to the homeless and needy in L.A. & across the U.S., American Idol’s Danny Gokey performed at a special media event hosted by Jason Kennedy of E! News Daily and Suzanne Marques of Good Day L.A.
At the event, Gokey announced along with Dream Center founder, Matthew Barnett, the naming of the Dream Center’s Youth Outreach Center after his late wife, Sophia, recognizing his commitment to the work of the inner-city relief organization, through his recently formed foundation, Sophia’s Heart, created in her memory.
The Dream Center, the former Queen of Angels Hospital in downtown L.A. is now a refuge for L.A.’s 11,000 homeless, abandoned teens, gang members, and those suffering from drug & alcohol addiction. The organization feeds 30,000 people per week (one million pounds of food) and houses more than 1,200 people daily each week in Los Angeles, with over 130 satellite outreaches across the U.S.
The Dream Center provides shelter, life rehabilitation, education, basic needs, job training and numerous resources through its 273 programs. Located in a formerly crime-infested neighborhood of Los Angeles, the Dream Center has become one of the outstanding models of transformation in America. Since its inception, the Dream Center’s surrounding L.A. inner city area has seen a homicide drop of 73% as a result of its different programs.
The Dream Center also has its own recording studio and created its own record label titled Dream Records, recently launching their first artist Press Play which debuted in the Top 50 on the Billboard 200, becoming a huge itunes success and appearing on The Today Show. The members of Press Play all work for the Dream Center and its CD sale proceeds go to the development of the Dream Center organization. Much of the recording studio equipment was donated by Grammy Award winning music producer-songwriter-musician Rodney Jerkins.

Latrece, I hope you get to do that too. It also wouldn’t surprise me if at some point in the future Danny himself enters politics. He would make a great politician. He definitely has a way with people, and with public speaking and getting people motivated. He also can do the baby-kissing thing great! Who knows, one day we may be listening to President Gokey give the State of the Union address. Many celebrities eventually enter politics and I bet Danny might just do that at some point. I could also see him working with Obama, possibly in children’s issues.

Danny still has the big fan count that was on there last night, although it hasn’t grown. Not sure what is up with that. Last night I looked at one point and it said around 130,000 fans. Then every minute or two it was jumping at least a thousand higher. Now it’s at almost exactly the same total as last night – 168,933.
YAY, all positive comments at MJ’s on Danny’s Dream Center article. Like I said – how could anyone hate on Danny for doing just good deeds.

Latrece, as far as I am concerned, there are some unresolved problems, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to discuss them in a public post. I do appreciate your comments, though. I know you think I shouldn’t bring this up — and I really do understand your point — but this site has affected me to the point where it started to change how I felt about Danny. At one point I remember thinking, “I’m not going to join twitter and I’m not going to buy an MP3 player and I’m not going to buy Danny’s single.” I was really bummed. Then I went back and listened to Danny’s performances on AI. And I started to smile. I really love Danny’s voice! And he’s a nice guy, which is a bonus!
I could have refrained from calling attention to the atmosphere, but I have to wonder that if I have been affected, what about lurkers who never post?
(P.S.) (Totally off subject) I had lunch with a coworker and told her a little about my AI concert experience. She told me a friend at her church was a big fan of one of the AI contestants. We’ve figured out it must be Danny. It’s so cool to know there’s another fan in my town!

To President Obama, hes doing pretty good on his 1st year of his term. I read a news yesterday about according to experts, the recession is taking its last days on America. I was impressed by that. And how the war in the Middle East will end. I salute President Obama for that!

Pam, I’m agree with you: I don’t want Danny in politics; I think his current focus is best: singing, being himself, and doing good works. And then weaving in that big family that would make him so happy.
But if just happened to be at the State Capitol supporting some good cause ……I’d be over there so fast my feet wouldn’t touch the sidewalk–and pity the those that stepped in my way!
FWIW, Ellen, I am a fiscally-conservative, socially moderate myself. At least, I like to think of myself like that. I saw my name brought up earlier as having shoved my beliefs under people’s noses and I kind of resent that. I don’t believe I’ve brought my beliefs up at all, except in response to someone else perhaps, and then I do try to keep it light and in a joking mood. Frankly, too often, I’ve been shunned or treated rather poorly because I lean toward the conservative when I’m amongst a group of liberals. Sometimes those that proclaim to be the most open-minded are the least open-minded when it comes to someone whose political beliefs are different than their own. That’s why I really try to stay out of any political discussions, especially in this group. I don’t judge anyone on the basis of their political beliefs, and I don’t want anyone to do the same with me.
Having said that, I think this has been (well, up until about a week ago) one of the friendliest and diverse group of people I’ve ever posted with. I sure hope that the bad feelings can get swept under the rug and we call ALL start over!
Ellen– like you, I am going to have to learn how to down load it so I can give it as a gift; Pam and Cheryl are very savy at doing these things so I will refer to them and maybe sweet Steph too. WE will figure out some type of way!!

Ellen, Just remember the wise saying that “Only you can make yourself feel a certain way”. It will only hurt you if you let anger at others opinions or posting styles make you not want to buy Danny’s single, or partake in Danny fun.
This is a very personal forum (some of you like Cheryl, Latrece, Deb have been here since the very beginning and really “know” each other) and Amy gives great latitude in what people say. I know many other forums may be more to some people’s taste, in that they are more structured, moderated and comments often stricken off topic.
But I have to say, I participate in a couple of other forums and this is definitely the most active. I think it has kept growing since its inception and it is a credit to Amy, Erika and the dedicated fans who post here.
You can’t please everyone all the time, so true.

Nancy, not to worry, I think we’re all just at loose ends and getting off topic because there are so few Danny things to talk about right now. All that will change soon and we can all focus on what brought us all here to this lovely site to begin with. I think right now, we have to be careful not to step on other people’s toes, since although we all agree about DANNY, we might not all agree about other things, and sensitive topics like religion and politics inevitably lead to discord and resentment at worst, or a debating atmosphere at best, and we don’t want that here because it’s not the place for it. There are plenty of other forums to air our political differences, not here.
Still, there’s nothing wrong with simply stating you like a certain political figure, the way Cheryl says she really likes Obama. Having a view doesn’t mean you’re dissing another one. But getting into political discussions beyond just saying you like a certain political figure is too much for this site, so I think we need to watch that from now on, myself included.
Look at the banner at the top of this site: “Feel the love.” We need to get back to doing that. I am sure once there’s some more news about Danny’s single, website, or his album, we’ll definitely all be feeling the love again.

Like I said earlier, we all have cyber cabin fever. We’ve been sitting on pins and needles since the tour ended waiting for Dannys next big step. We are also having Danny withdrawls bc he is not posting as regularly as he used to. Lol! If you think about it, we are going through the same thing that someone addicted to cigs would!
And might I just add, that if I offended anyone by something I’ve said, I apologize. I know last week, I apologized several times and it was accepted graciously by most, but not all. I hate when I feel as though I have to give up my firstborn male child in order to make things right again. LOL! We ALL make mistakes, say some things that don’t sound/look bad when we first say/type them…and then someone else takes offense at it, and then the brouhaha all starts. I know I have to step back and sometimes re-read something to “get” it.

What I said was that you and Dee have made very obvious political statements (you can not deny that, please don’t make me copy and paste your statements), both here and on twitter.
The “nose” comment had nothing to do with you whatsoever; it was in another paragraph where I complimented Steph6449 in that I thought she made her views somewhat known, yet managed not to shove them under anyone’s nose. I said she should give ALL OF US pointers. That was not aimed at you, it was a general statement for all of us. I’m sorry you misunderstood that statement and were offended.

I will admit that I scanned it yesterday rather fast, so may have missed a statement somewhere that would have made all the difference to what I felt at the time was missing. Either way, I really did not pay any attention to any individuals’ names in yesterday’s thread. It was more an overall impression of the stream of discussion.

Hallo everyone-Well, I`m from the UK so no danger of ME commenting on American politics! I just want to say that I saw abolutely nothing offensive in Cheryl`s comment-WHEN I found it. I agree with Helio and everything she said-Yes, we are on this site because we are Danny fans, but that doesn`t make us robots without a brain-Of course there is going to be SOME topic that comes up and one of us will feel strongly about it-the fact that we CAN express our opinions on ANY subject is whay makes iheart such a great place to be. I have been reading the articles Amy posted,about the Dream Center and SHF and, like Shirl, it brought tears to my eyes-It touches me very deeply that Sophia has such a wonderful memorial -and shows what a unique individual Danny must be, to dedicate his life to helping others-At the end of the day, Stephanie summed it up-SHF is all about LOVE, and, sorry to bring up religion, but it is obvious that Danny wants it to surpass religion and politics-because LOVE is a greater more powerful force than either!

Last post (by me, anyway) about the political brauhaha! I just want to echo the sentiments of Steph6449 @ 8:03 p.m. and Helio at 8:41 p.m. I do think we need to be careful about implicit assumptions, and how something might sound to someone with different views. And I also agree that labels are confining, because not all people in a group are going to fit whatever the prevailing stereotype of that group might be. ALL of us are so much more than any label you could pin on us! We are complex creatures. My owns views range from “conservative” to “liberal,” depending on the issue, and depending on the viewpoint from which the assessment is made. Helio was right when she gave examples of how one can find extremes in any group. It is just so limiting to try to use group labels to define people. I have a female Muslim friend who is one of the strongest, most liberated women I’ve ever met. And I have a male friend who is gay, conservative, Republican, and Catholic. Neither of them fits well into any stereotype. We should celebrate our diversity! And as Danny said, “Never let yourself be defined by what others say about you!”
Carole…I think Danny realizes what “religion” (for lack of a better word and not wanting to go from the frying pan, politics, into the fire, religion) is all about. It’s about love and selflessness. He totally gets it. And I think he wants everyone to get along, to love and to give. He’s setting an awesome example.

I watched a TV programme about a singer who is making a comeback-his single is out, only on download, but the album will be in the shops-I`d like to think Danny`s first single will be in the shops,because, IMO it just isn`t the same having a download!No cover photo and all the details of the CD, writers, producers-dedications, lots of things we would miss-Singles are usually previewed a while before release it`s Nov.1st Sunday, so, fingers crossed!!

Anyway, I was attempting to respond to my e-mails when my computer went bonkers. I mean really, really bonkers! Hey everyone! Hope you didn’t think I abandoned you in the middle of an intense discussion. Latrece was right I went to my “real” salon appointment. I read everyone’s comments and just want to say that although we all come from various backgrounds I am so glad we can try to iron out any potential hurtful feelings by accepting that we can disagree on things but can always try to remain respectful of each other. I think it was a good discussion to have because it makes me realize that all of us can say things without ever realizing how others are perceiving it. I had no idea that anyone would think that I was saying something negative about religion or politics. It was not my intention – I simply wanted to point out that you cannot paint anyone with a broad brush and assume you know everything about them based on what you think a religious person, non-religious person, conservative person or liberal person is like is like. People are complicated and if you open your mind you might find you have more in common than you think.
I love this site and I love that we can share our Danny love and that we have come to care so much about each other.
I believe Shirl mentioned earlier about the problem with DM`s on Twitter? I`d like to confirm that none of my DM`s are coming through on my email-it`s a nuisance, as I don`t always get on Twitter very often-hope they sort it out.

CHERYL, that was my point exactly. If you turn the kaleidoscope to a different angle, you see a different view. We ALL have filters through which we view things that we read or hear, and those filters will color how we perceive things. I do understand where Dee was coming from, but her perception and your intent are two entirely different things.

Cheryl, our “filters” may develop from real world experiences, as well. For example, at work I am in the minority, politically speaking. I try to avoid the subject, but unfortunately my coworkers don’t share my restraint. The day after election night, a coworker brought donuts to work and said they were only for people who “voted for Obama.” She said it was a joke, but it didn’t go down well with a few folks. Another coworker on a different occasion said that it made her physically, violently sick to watch the Republican Convention. (She was at someone’s house and it was on the TV.) I don’t care about my coworkers’ views, but their comments make it clear that they assume everyone agrees with them. (And they would be right most of the time!
)
Can you see how someone with those experiences might view things differently? I remember reading your post and thinking, “Oops! That could be taken the wrong way.” But I also absolutely understood that that was NOT what you meant.
So, with different filters and perceptions — what’s the solution? I don’t know. I really don’t know. I guess just trying to be aware of how something might sound coming from a different direction, and humor — lots of humor!
The site itself isn’t a hoax…it’s their live stream site. The people in the chatroom are fake!
