Good Morning Hannele! I was relieved when my relatives called us the other day that they are fine, They are getting ready for an upcoming storm again to hit the islands. The videos posted are amazing and of course the news about Mark Bright is also wonderful no doubt about that. Can’t wait for his single to hit November. Is that really Danny’s Tour clothes? LOL! Danny was so adorable when he forgot the lyrics on JTTW!

Hi Gokeyguy, I’m on my way to meeting shortly so I try to be short with my comment. Your relatives are in my thoughts and we all wish that this storm won’t be as bad as the other one. Mother Earth isn’t doing that well at the moment. Too much rain in other parts and horrible drought in East Africa, which is killing people and wildlife..
SHF’s website looks good and is such an improvement to the old pages. It’s great to see things progressing and to top all the good things going for Danny were the news about Mark Bright being the producer for Danny’s album!

GG, I was thinking about you yesterday, I’m glad you’re alright but worried when you say another hurricane is about to hit.
Sometimes I miss the old Danny too. He’s not too geeky anymore, is he? You remember, DC started out kind of geeky too. You’d never know how good looking they really were.
What did you think of the videos from the other night, especially I Can Only Imagine? I was blown away.
I’m going to miss chatting today but I’ll see everyone later tonight.
Oh, and the SHF website looks great! Danny has his fingers in so many pies, like the Energizer bunny, he just keeps going and going!

Helio – Danny is now Adorkable now in a good way. ;D DG and DC have great transformations in months and it was astonishing. I really thought Danny will sing one gospel on the concert. I don’t know the song but he sold it out big time. It was moving and amazing.
GG, the “gosel” song was Imagine. Well, not really gospel, but it’s a Christian song. Really moving. The band is pretty awesome too.

Helio – In that song, Danny really showed us where he first started from, where are his roots and he really sold that song pretty hard to the audience. I really want him to do one gospel/Christian song to his upcoming album. Im really excited!

I wasn’t able to get back here yesterday either, G-G. Glad to hear the family is safe for now. Heard about more rain on the way. I am glad that cable coverage of the devastation has finally hit the airwaves. It will help to get much needed support to your people. I cannot imagine being surrounded by such an immense amount of water.
Did get a chance to view all videos, once more. It seems to me, that is having a little bit of a challenge trying to adjust to the tiny restricted stage. The way he keeps clapping his arms, tells me he is missing moving around more. Awesome show, though.

Its great that MJs has 95% or more positive Danny posts. There were a few posts there that even said they got down on Danny but after the tour liked him. I really only saw one snarky post that said “I didn’t even know Danny KNEW 11 songs”. Mild, at that. Glad the hate is dying down

Shocking how almost no neg. posts at MJs. I really do think many times people “follow the pack”. When more positive things are posted, people are reluctant to stand out as so negative. That’s why I’ll say it again, I appreciate the people here who take the time to post on blogs, etc, even though reading the hate may be painful, the more positive the buzz about Danny, the better.

I really haven’t seen a lot of Danny-hating at MJs for some time, although since she changed her site so you can no longer scan “all” the comments in a thread I don’t read them as often.
It used to be easier to show all the cmts and skim around for something interesting. Too much work now for me to page through the longer threads where she gets 500+ comments. I figure if someone is hating on Danny in the middle of big threads like those, not too many other people will work hard enough to come across it either.

Good morning! I am going to have to ask my computer guy to see if there is a way to enlarge things on my computer as the font here is just too hard for me to read with my poor vision since it is so small and so light. I think he ssid it would be possible.
I also think the song “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” is very appropriate for Danny right now! He is signed, it is sealed, and pretty soon he will be delivering his first single! It’s all good!
I would just like to share this with everyone about eBay. Our neighbor’s son who lives in CA works for eBay, he is one of the webmasters (they have several). SO MUCH of what is up for auction on celebrity stuff is fake, not the real thing, so bidders who win are really taken across.
With that shirt and the boots up to $150 by now with 4 more days left to go to bid, I would be very hesitant to pay that much money for something on an auction site without even a certificate of authenticity, not that THAT even means anything.
PLUS the fact that the shirt has been WASHED! There will be no sweet scent of Danny there, and I think that would be a big selling point as we would all love to have something of his with his aroma intact, that he has worn
Just a word to the wise and to be on alert for the fact that this just might not even be legit!

yes I got to see the videos, but had to stop for a while after I Can Only Imagine. That song is very emotional for me.
And….I might add, notice there is no shoe size giben with those boots on eBay. That’s a dead giveaway right there that they could be bogus. To list the size would certainly go towards the authenticity of the boots as anyone who knows Danny personally, could verify that at least they are his size.

Someone posted about seeing Danny in NYC at the Dream Center, with a link to their pic. And there was Danny singing on stage with the choir. I think this was in NYC, if not, apologies because my eyes are not seeing too well right now.

GG I’m glad to hear your family is doing okay. I work with a some people who have family in the Philippines and they have finally been able to reach them and everybody is okay, but much of their property is destroyed. I’m praying that they do not get more devestating weather.
Heard it Through the Grapevine and Sign, Sealed Delivered were amazing. So soulful. I hate that I may never see Danny sing those songs live again. I heard SSD at Summerfest, but I know that was much differenct thatn hearing it at MSMC. I am going to miss Danny being able to sing R&B and Soul.
grandmaster, the shirt may have not been dry cleaned but it has been washed. Has to do with not being able to sell merchandise on an auction site that has not been laundered before being sold (health laws, etc.)

Shirl when I saw that shirt on Ebay. I thought who in their right mind would wash it? It was all faded and wrinkled. I would love the shirt if it had his scent on it. Have to wonder if it is legit. I think people have probably tried to find out if it’s legit, but I’m not hearing anything. You of course have to be skeptical.

today is Danny’s big day in the studio. I am so happy and excited for him. I know he is on cloud nine now that he is actually making the single/album. He probably feels like a kid on Christmas morning!

Michelle and Jen Can’t wait to read your recaps. I just don’t even know how I would have reacted if I had been at the show. I look at the videos and squeel with delight and cry and laugh and melt, so I can only imagine what it felt like seeing and hearing him live singing all those amazing songs. I am praying that Danny does another show before his single comes out and that I can perhaps fly to wherever it is to see it.
Cheryl, I know from talking to my neighbor’s son who works for eBay, that all garments sold on the site MUST be laundered (washed or dry cleaned) due to health regulations. The shirt would be a nice memento to have since he wore it but without his scent? Just a shirt.

Shirl Yeah just a shirt. HOWEVER, if Danny becomes the megastar I believe he will be and if those clothes are legit, then they could become very very valuable. Kind of like Elvis’s clothes would be! all the guys in the band not only sounded hot, they looked hot. They all looked really buff and like they were carrying major weaponry. Danny’s guns, even though they were covered up looked great too. Maybe he’s been working out with the band members!
Michelle and Jen, so looking forward to your recaps! Hopefully I will get to see them no later than tomorrow as we are leaving early Thursday for a trip up through New England for the fall foliage. I doubt if I will have much time to be on my laptop but do plan to take it along just in case. Feels like fall right here in PA already!

Please don’t throw rotten tomatoes at me but I do think Danny needs to cut back on the pantomime gesturing during his songs though. I know his emotions are what moves him to be so explicit in getting the real meaning of the lyrics out there but at times it looks a little OTT. But I think maybe whomever is working with him will see that as being not too cool, maybe a little corny, and will advise him to just let his voice work for getting the lyrics speak for themselves because we all know he can sure deliver with his singing.
On that note, I’d love to see him sing with a guitar, even if he only knows 2 or 3 chords! LOL!

It amuses me a little that everybody in Danny’s band is either related to him somehow or just a good buddy. The fact is that they are all excellent musicians and work so well together. It’s obvious that Danny is comfortable working with them. However, I wonder if TPTB will want him to record with a studio band/orchestra that is more country. A lot of strings in country music. What fun it is to “travel along” with Danny on his musical journey and learn how the whole machine works from an obscure audition on AI to The Big Time!!!!

Shirl I kin of get what you mean. I know someone here mentioned they like it when Danny points to his smile when he sings My Wish. but, I’m with you, I think the words and the way he delivers them speak for themselves. Also, some of the gestures in Maria, Maria are not necessary, but others are okay. Not too keen on when the judge writes the eviction letter gesture, but don’t mind the rich keep getting richer gesture. but, for the most part I don’t mind the gestures that are less specific and the ones where he puts his hands on his heart.
I noticed throughout the Season that Danny speaks a lot with his hands. I loved when he did it while he was speaking, although I know others did not. Danny is such and emotional and expressive person when he sings and he probably can’t help some of the hand gestures, just like he can’t avoid talking with his hands.

Shirl I noticed that about his band too. It does make sense that his bands would be relatives or friends. I think most bands, like Daughtry, have been friends forever. My guess is that when you are a solo artist you try to get people you trust and know have your back to travel with you.
TPTB are likely to want to use their own musicians for backround. It worries me because I know they will probably infuse that country sound a little to much (fiddles and twangy sounding music), whereas Danny’s band would clearly make the sound less country and more soul.
Cheryl, do you have a special occasion, like a major anniversary, coming up soon, and get Danny to sing at your party?
Butting in here… I agree with you both, Cheryl & Shirl (2 funny)! Less gesturing would make the gesturing he does, more effective (impo).
The thing about Danny, is he has to remain true to himself. So, I’d never want him to turn into Mr. Total Suave. I like the geeky guy, who forgets a lyric every now and then, and is known to have a wardrobe malfunction. It is endearing!
Been thinking about future show prospects. I think it may be possible. Especially, close to the release date of his album, because they will be looking to make some practice runs.
My take on the college tour, is that it may be real unlikely. Just don’t see that to be the way for Danny to get exposure. I can see it for KA especially, but not so sure for Danny.
Given what that president Galante said, I’d expect they’ll put him on tour with a big name act as an opener. If that happens, I pity the headliner band!

Maryann, I kinda thing it might be the other way around, with DANNY opening for a bigger name in country music, which would get him a lot of exposure. Would be fabulous if he could open for Carrie Underwood or a name equally as big in country music.
I also think it would be better for him to start out in small venues such as colleges and the like, where he can do a solo concert and work his way up from there. Arenas might be down the road and in the near future, but right now the smaller venues will sell out for him until he can work his way up into superstar status. Oh, it’s coming, make no mistake about that! LOL!

Shirl, I think you and Maryann are talking about the same thing, just worded differently; Danny being the opening act for a bigger act.
I agree with those who say he should cut down on the gesturing a little, it can be distracting and a little corny. I think he is so spontaneous and passionate the music pours out of him everywhere (Ellen!, Latrece!) and he just has to express himself. I remember at the very beginning of AI when he said that family members told him he uses his hands too much when he sings and he is working on controlling that.
I think he was so happy to be doing what he wanted during that concert, and not worried about it he was gesturing more than usual.
But whatever- as long as it doesn’t interfere with that big ole voice, I guess I don’t care too much!~

Danny would be a perfect openeing act for Carie Underwood. I think Carrie Udnerwood has a lot of female fans and I think they would fall in love with Danny if he toured with her.
I don’t think it would be as good if he toured with a male performer because all the females there would be more into wqaiting for the headliner that they have a crush on to come out and they might not appreciate Danny as much. Does that make any sense? With a female headliner, the females in the audience might have a greater appreciation for how hot Danny is.

About using his hands too much. I do want Danny to remain true to himself and that means belting out songs with emotion and using hand gestrures and some of those hand movements are appropriate to the emotion of the song. It is the small gestures like pointing to the mouth or pockets, pretending you are writing something that aren’t really adding anything to the song. The big sweeping gestures to me are quite experessive and emotional and I wouldn’t want him to do away with them.

Cheryl, I agree with Danny opening for a female act and that is why I mentioned Carrie. Other male performers such as Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, etc., have their own following and I know country music fans are tried and true devotees of their own favorites. They would only be impatient to see who they came to see.

Pam – Danny probably is a bit of a perfectionist. It goes along with his being so competitive and overanalyzing everything. He talks about those two things a lot. It seems like he doesn’t like those traits that much, probably because it causes a lot of stress. But, I think part of the reason Danny has come so far and will be even more successful is because of those traits. Just a gut feeling, but I always thought that Danny probably was harder on himself than anyone else has been. He hinted at that when he talked about how he was angry with himself when he hit a bad note at the beginning of Endless Love and was mad even while he was singing the rest of the song. He did say that he had to learn to let go and not let it get to him, but that is hard to do when your nature is to be a perfectionist.
I know this, Danny is perfect to me!

I love how Danny sings a song differently everytime he sings it. I think it has something to do with singing with his heart and with emotion, so whatever is inside of him comes out in the music and so each time it sounds different. He also seems to like to experiment with the songs and tweek them a little, like with Maria, Maria, which he started singing with more of a Latin influence. If you compare it to Adam’s style of singing they are so different. Danny is spontaneous and creative WHILE he is singing. Adam, while he may be very creative in planning a song and performance, he is not creative while he is on stage. It is like he is so well trained that he will do each song exactly the same every single time. I think the diffference between he two of them is their backgrounds. Adam is from a theatre background where you learn a song or dialog and have to stick with it for every performance. Whereas Danny is from a gospel music background where you sing completley from the heart and you add riffs and can be very creative while you are singing. Obviously, I prefer Danny’s style of singing, but there are a lot of people who don’t like that and prefer Adam’s type of trained, practiced singing where if you go to 10 concerts you know you will see exactly the same performance every single time.

Cheryl- I think your analysis is right on. I myself have never been a big fan of the spontaneous riff type singers (one reason I’m not a big jazz fan, lol) but wow, there is just something about Danny’s singing- I think it is tonal quality that sometimes it isn’t even WHAT he is singing, for me it is just the fact that HE is singing, does that make sense? I love every little creative change up thing he does with a song and even tho I’m not a big gospel fan loved what he did with JTTW at MSMC.
I think that’s why he makes me love some of the songs he sang (Stand by me, Get ready, even WHTM cuz I’m not a country fan) because they are so HIM. Its funny that his detractors say he’s not original, creative, etc when we fans think the opposite!
That is why I finally came around to the acceptance of country even tho I was pretty upset about it at first. I think he will make me love it despite myself!

Not sure if it was you who mentioned “Stryper”…had not thought of them in a long time! My husband and I went to hear a jazz band downtown Saturday night, walking by a club, “Stryper” was on a billboard for upcoming concert. Apparently they are together again touring this year. Just thought that was funny seeing the name after all these years. They were very controversial in the 80′s with the glam/heavy metal Christian music. I helped produced a daily t.v. program, my boss interviewed them. In fact, the lead singer’s wife just died of cancer a few months ago. Tragedy all around.

Nice to see the show posted at mjs. We are big fans here MSMC.
Most of my floor went to see Danny as a group. Some of us were newbies to the phenomena that is AI, others of us were super die hard fans.
Danny and his band kicked it big time. He was smoking hot! The videos don’t do him justice. His voice is so powerful in a masculine sort of way.
That stage will never be the same again.
Go see him if you can. This guy is going to be big. It will be interesting to see what he does on his album. I think he is going to be a big success.

I have some Stryper album, and I think one or two solo albums from the lead singer — Michael Sweet? I also have some Petra, and one or two solo albums from their lead singer, John Schlitt. Plus I have Kathy Troccoli. And a coworker — who writes, plays, and posts music on MacJams — recently introduced me to Glass Harp (?) Hope I’ve got that right. Anyway, Petra’s “Beyond Belief” is a classic Christian rock album. (At least to me!) Dee, if you are still here, I have a funny story about how I “discovered” Christian rock. (Kinda weird, like how I discovered Danny.)

I am just so happy for Danny that I could cry. I think Danny has such belief in himself and such a positive way of thinking and such joy, that it is inevitable that this has happened for him. He has suffered a huge loss in his life only to come back strong and with a belief that good things can happen. I believe God has given him strength and given him guidance and Danny has used that strength and followed the path set before him to make his dreams come true.
Danny is going to be a huge success in life because he believes in himself and has faith that there is a way out of darkness into light and he is finding that path to success as an artist and as a caring, giving man.

I cannot access the Internet on my home computer. Not sure what is wrong. Can’t get my e-mail & can’t get to iheartDG. The browser page won’t load. Looks like my Internet connection is okay. I temporarily disengaged my firewall to see that would work, but it didn’t. I asked a coworker who’s computer savvy and he gave me a few suggestions that I can try when I get home, but looks like I will have to call my ISP.

Carole, it really wasn’t any trouble, as you will see if I ever get that dratted video clip posted. Danny is a sweetheart, he didn’t mind signing extra photos for his fans! He even suggested signing the one photo that had two 5″ x 7″ pictures separately, so they could be cut up and the extra given away.

I know this is going to be perfect for Danny because even though I know nothing about Mark Bright, I know that Carrie Underwood must trust him explicitly with her music because she has worked with him in the past and elected to work with him again. It must mean she knows how good he is. I am sure she could work with anyone she chooses and she chose Mark Bright. I think Danny hit the jackpot.

I’m so excited that now it’s OFFICIAL and Cheryl, every word you said is so true. Danny believes in himself and that’s why he is winning at life. I also think he must have very good karma. We reap what we sow.
You can tell he’s a joyful, happy person just by looking at him. His outward appearance reflects what’s inside. A year ago, his skin didn’t glow the way it does now, and his eyes didn’t sparkle. You look at him now and he almost seems to glow from the inside. I’ve seen this phenomenon happen over and over with certain idols as they traveled the long road from obscurity to stardom, but it’s not the makeovers and makeup or the stardom itself that makes it happen. Certain people (Danny, DC, others) gained confidence in themselves and as a result, this had a snowball effect on everything they do. It’s startling when it happens almost overnight. The blog I wrote about DC showed this transformation and I’m just as inspired now to start on Danny’s because his has been no less impressive.
The weird thing is the minute I saw his audition I just knew that in a few months’ time he would be the one who would undergo this magnificent process, whether or not he actually won. I think that was part of my attraction to him. It’s very difficult to explain but I felt it very strongly.
I don’t know if this makes any sense to anyone but I wanted to share it.

Anyway, Mark Bright IS producing Carrie Underwoods current album and produced her previous two. That is why I thought he could/would still work with Danny even though he is now with Word because he is working with Carrie and she is also with Sony Nashville.

Yaaaay for the confirmation on Mark Bright, that’s amazing for Danny.
Maryann & all, I agree, touring with a big-name act along the lines Joe G’s quote suggests they may be considering would be a boost step for Danny’s career, in addition to occasional concerts or special appearances on his own. Carrie would be wonderful, but there are some other female artists that also could work if they will be touring soon (Sara Evans for example on Danny’s label). Or doesn’t country sometimes have 3 or more acts out together?

Cheryl, congratulations on getting your signed photo…and yes, the whole transformation thing makes me very emotional too. Not sure exactly why, it’s the same kind of feeling I got watching Disney’s Beauty and the Beast…and at the end goodness won and the haunted castle and the Beast was transformed. Every time I watch B&B I cry buckets. But this goes much deeper because it’s not just an animated story, it is happening to a real human being. I have NO idea how I knew this would happen to Danny, but I am VERY intuitive about these things. I watched it happen to DC last year (it started happening sooner for him, early in the season, as opposed to late in the season and into the tour for Danny) and I was profoundly moved. I waited for it to happen for Danny and now it is. I’ve seen this happen to other idols, but not nearly so much as these two men. Adam Lambert didn’t interest me because he never seemed to change. He’s the same now as he was then. I didn’t see a huge change in Kris or Allison either, although their performances might be more polished. I’ll risk getting real profound here but I also have to say that for both Danny and DC, a great emotional transformation took place, and this involved a lot of letting go and emoting onstage, and I think this has a lot to do with what happened to them on the outside too, if that makes any sense. I’ll stop here because I’m getting too woo woo and philosophical for this board and I’m risking more Idletard mockery. Well, let ‘em, I don’t care, it needed to be said.

Hey helio-Danny’s gonna be just fine. With the right direction in his music, song choices, etc., and working w/Mark Bright, whom now I see is a really big deal, I think he’ll pull this off very nicely. I’m always happy whenever I hear good things about how his album is going and such. I am curious as to how his single is gonna sound. Now and now these days, I find myself listening to more country all the time. Not a huge country music fan, but I like some of it and it’s not bad.
I guess I’m preparing myself for when danny makes his country debut…lol

Ellen, my gut instincts are correct 90% of the time, at least when it comes to this show. I’m not bragging, it’s just a fact. I knew DC was going to win too as early as his audition. I was wrong about Danny (I thought he’d win) but in the end it didn’t matter at all and has turned out for the best. If he had won, I’d be betting on the Idols in Vegas in season 9, lol.
Oh, I know a girl who auditioned for season 9. She’s a great singer–a little girl with a BIG voice. She performs locally with a band that does covers of old 60s and 70s rock and soul tunes. I have no idea whether she got through Hollywood or not. Her name is Jessie Barry. Keep that name in mind, she is really good.

I’ve seen some people at other sites questioning if Danny would be managed/represented through 19-affiliated channels or not. (That’s a hater comment, alleging that 19 didn’t want Danny so they would never sign him. Oops. Then it became, well 19R signed him, but the real test is where the management comes from.)

It’s been staying much busier here than I expected once the tour ended. vc, I’m glad to see you again posting.
I bet (hope) that Danny will be tag teaming with Carrie Underwood rather than going it alone at small venues, or mixing it up with appearances alone at smaller venues/colleges. I think this could be a win-win situation for both of them, especially for Danny. Underwood fans who aren’t familiar with Danny will discover him, and that could be a HUGE boost to his career. Of course AI fans will go to see both. I think since Mark Bright is producing both of them, this is a very likely scenario. Between the big concerts with Underwood, Danny could give smaller, more intimate concerts at clubs and colleges, which would give him exposure to people who can’t afford to or otherwise might not pay the big bucks to see him at a big arena with Carrie.

Danny finally won me over after I saw him on tour this summer and I went to see his solo show on Sunday evening.
Backed by a six-piece band and two female back-up singers, one of whom he introduced as his sister-in-law, Danny was at his vocal best and easily sang his way through the hour and fifteen minute show without any signs of vocal strain that was often evident on tour. Dressed in black jeans and vest, light blue shirt, silver-gray boots and chains swaged on his right hip, he nimbly navigated the stage, smiled often and exuded a relaxed confidence that engaged the audience throughout his entire 14 song set.
The set ranged from familiar audition, American Idol and tour favorites, with additional Motown, contemporary Christian and country tunes included in the mix: P.Y.T – Michael Jackson, September – Earth Wind & Fire, Heard it Through the Grapevine – Marvin Gaye, Signed, Sealed Delivered, I’m Yours – Stevie Wonder, Ain’t Too Proud To Beg – Temptations, What Hurts the Most – Rascal Flatts, Jesus Take the Wheel – Carrie Underwood, I Can Only Imagine – MercyMe, Stand by Me – Ben E. Pam, that site has almost done a 180. It used to be almost all haters, now there are very few except those holdouts like Joeschmoe. Speaking of holdouts, I wonder if Kristen Baldwin and Michael Sleaze-ak at Idolatry still are hating on Danny. I think Slezak actually didn’t hate him that much anymore, but I don’t know about that woman, she was pretty hardcore. Maybe she was secretly crushing.
I get tired of all the talk about PC. PC is overrated. When people are too PC, they become boring. I love the way Danny blurts whatever he’s thinking, whether it’s PC or not, and besides, I don’t recall him ever saying anything that bad anyway.

Helio, ITA. PC is boring; everyone says the same old crap, meaning essentially nothing at times! Danny has never said anything hateful or mean and when people said it is its because they twist his jokes into something else. I really hope he doesn’t change too much. Like it was such heresy when he said (after voting was done) that he thought Kris would win. So What? I’m sure they all had their opinion, only Danny would be brave enough to tell the truth!
My opinion is that Slezak actually likes Danny a little now because
he didn’t say anything bad about the concert he saw-was neutral (which is good for him; he would lose huge face if he said Danny was good)
In response to Danny’s kidding “say you love me Michael” he sheepishly only said “Kristen would hit me”. He could certainly have been snarky- he was all season.

I had a horrible day today trying to post my recap and thank Amy for her help! Realized two songs that Jen tweeted were left off of the original song list. I added these – September, and Signed, Sealed, Delivered. But then inadvertently left off everyone’s favorite – I can only Imagine. Many revisions today, and found typos. I guess that’s what happens when you stay up unitl 1:00 writing when you are dog tired!
I am still floating on cloud nine about the concert. It is truly amazing – from a 4 song set to a 14 song set. That little blurb about forgetting the words for JTTW was so minor in the whole scheme of the entire show – I am sorry people were focusing on that. I wasn’t going to include that in my recap.
His zipper being open was hilarious. Danny’s smile and facial expressions are so cute, silly, and funny! He’s adorable!
I do think they are planning on having more of these shows. It doesn’t even compare to the AI tour show – so much better and so much more! I think they should call his concert – “JUST DANNY”.

If I am remembering correctly, Yom Kippur is a high holy day, and is very solemn/sad. I don’t think one would ordinarily preface it with the word “happy.” But c’mon. Talk about nitpicking! David Cook’s intent was good — to recognize an extremely important religious holiday of a particular ethnic/religious group, i.e., to recognize the religious diversity of the United States. How does recognizing religious diversity equate with political incorrectness? Are we all now obligated to learn the fine points of each other’s religions before we dare make a comment about them?
Who criticized David Cook for his comment, anyway?
You wouldn’t wish someone a ” happy yom kippur” because the nature of yom kippur is to afflict yourself (almost opposite of happy) and to ask forgivnes from g-d. something more appropriate would be “Gmar Chatimah Tova” or ” have a deep and meaningful yom kippur”
You also wouldn’t say “have an easy fast” (though people do say it, its technically incorrect) because the point is to afflict yourself, so it should be hard.

I hope that the ‘shelflife’ for that sort of thing is short for DC. For the Danny-haters, they have memories like elephants even if what they are remembering is wrong like the “racially insensitive” joke that wasn’t.

Well, I was running from plane to plane yesterday trying to get back from NY so I am behind in reading the posts. I wanted to find Michelle’s review and assume it may be on yesterday’s? I agree Ellen; Davids intent was to recognize an important holiday of another faith (just as Danny’s intent in his joke was to show the latent racist lingering in many) and there is no way everyone can know the niceties of every faith or whatever. PJGVET, exactly! It’s fine if somebody privately explained to David Cook that “happy” is not a word one uses in conjunction with “Yom Kippur.” But it sounds like someone made a public stink about it. (I don’t know all the details; that’s just how it sounds.)
I have friends who are Christian (of varying denominations), Jewish, Muslim, Wiccan, Buddist, and atheist. Whoops, add Hindu in there too! I know a little bit about some of my friends’ religious beliefs, but not enough to pass a test!

Steph, sad to say, IDF is still one of the hater holdouts. I post there because I’ve been there for almost 2 years and was put in charge of keeping track of Danny’s fan thread there, but his forum is less active than Kris, Adam, Allison’s, or even Anoop’s, and there are still a lot of haters. Most of them are kids though so that probably explains it. But the hate is a lot less intense. During the season, there were several new Danny-hate threads started every day. Many had to be locked by mods because the hate got too OTT. Some days, it seemed almost the entire General Discussion was made up of Danny hate threads. But now it’s rare to find a hate-thread, although the posts there concerning Danny still tend to be negative for the most part. No one there seems to have really converted, but the hate has cooled down a lot too.

As far as I’ve seen, neither Kris nor Adam have done more than a handful of songs live outside the AI tour format this year.
Kris did a short set at a Walmart corporate thing sometime soon after the finale, probably similar to (or shorter than) what Danny did at the Milwaukee corporate event.
Kris & Adam also did another corporate thing recently, very low-key apparently with just them and the AI Tour guitarist. Nothing like what Danny tried here with a full band. Kris and Adam also had the joint GMA tv appearance with DC.
I can’t recall either Kris or Adam doing more than one song in an “untwinned” appearance by themselves. Only solo song for either of them I can actually remember hearing about was Kris singing the anthem at a basketball game; I’m sure there must be more than that?

I really like Kris Allen’s single too- very catch beat, nice song and lyrics. My only complaints are that I don’t think it showcases him very well (sometimes you almost can’t hear him in most parts of the song- not sure if that is on purpose or not) and also I don’t care that its not original since I never heard the original, but he’s catching flak for it.
But its on my Ipod and I especially like to run with it!

I was interested to read this part of Michelle’s recap.
‘My Wish – he ended with his inspiration talk and then My Wish from the tour. He also talked about SHF and how he will integrate his foundation into his music. He wanted to play a DVD/Video from SHF but the venue could not accommodate that request in the auditorium so they had it playing out in the foyer of the auditorium after the show.’
I have heard Danny talk about including video clips in his show. I’m not sure what the video was specifically or how long it would have taken to play it during the concert. Do you think that would work well, or would a video used in that way throw off the dynamic of a concert appearance?
Playing the video outside the concert space itself seems like a good intermediate approach to me.
Pam, Kris’s single is okay, but it sounds very generic to me. It sounds like every other song you hear on the radio. There is nothing distinctive about it at all. I can’t see it becoming a huge or even a minor hit. I agree with you that it doesn’t showcase Kris’s strengths at all. Why they didn’t give him a song that allowed him to showcase his singer-songwriter type of style is a mystery to me. Those kind of songs sell quite well these days.
Marketed right, I can see Kris as a male Colbie Cailliat. She too has a lowkeyed style, not a great vocal range, but is very pleasant to listen to. I’d love to see them do a duet. For anyone who is interested, Colbie auditioned in either season 6 or 7 but didn’t even get past the lower producers. (She never got to see Randy, Paula and Simon). From what I understand, she was told “you’re not what we’re looking for.” I guess they’re eating their words now.

Helio, as much more of a newcomer there (my major lurking starting back in April or May), I haven’t seen a ton of Danny hating at IDF, although I only look in the Danny forum and the GD threads.
There was some Danny-bashing in the GD thread with the RCA Nashville deal announcement; it seemed pretty well counter-balanced with supportive comments, though, until the few snarkers got bored or worn out.
I thought I already signed up on Amazon.com to be notified of Danny’s release. Do I need to sign up again?
I signed up a long time ago, I think before I started posting here. It was a short while after I signed up to be notified of Susan Boyle’s CD (which is how I knew about the sign-up procedure).

Agree with you about the video during the concert. I do care about SHF and submitted an application to volunteer and have contributed, BUT I think that is best left to after, in conjunction with merchandise is perfect. I think it would definitely bring down the mood of the concert. Danny’s SHORT words of inspiration are great for me (no one wants to be preached at) but I agree that a video is too much during the actual concert.
Or,, why don’t they play it before the concert? Kind of like the AI videos before the tour? I think that would work, altho still like it outside after so its not “in anyones face”

Steph, it’s a lot better at IDF than it was. Most of the haters there have kind of lost interest, it seems. But compared to other sites, he has fewer fans there than haters or people who just aren’t his fans. If you can stand to, read back in the General Discussion. During the season it was truly disgusting. I pretty much stayed in Danny’s forum where it was safe (and a few Adam fans hung out in Danny’s forum too to get away from the scary Glamberts there) but made occasional forays into the scary General Discussion to defend Danny. Of course it never worked, but I felt like it was the least I could do.

In AI forums, they used to really hate on Danny in GD; In fact most Gokey Gang didn’t even venture in there. Sad to say, it was mostly Adam fans. Once Adam lost to Kris, some of the hate shifted to Kris, (what happened to Kradam, lol) and then during the tour it died down. I have now been posting a little in GD, and pretty much everyone ignores me; altho occ. Steph comes in to back me up, lol. Its like no one wants to acknowledge Danny’s success because they’d be wrong so they just try to pretend like he doesn’t exist! Its pretty funny. People are more willing to talk about Danny at former hater blogs like Mj’s than AI forums. Altho it is slow these days.
Pam and Steph, I think it’s amazing and wonderful what Danny is doing with SHF, but I agree that the SHF videos should be kept separate from the concerts. It would be too distracting from the performances, and might seem too much like advertising. I don’t think it would go over well with casual fans.

Pam, if it’s a really short little video (thinking tv commercial length), I think that could ~maybe work if they were careful where/how they used it.
If it’s a longer format though, some other way of integrating it with a concert event, but not right in the actual performance flow, makes a lot more sense to me.
Another idea might be to project a video without sound as a backdrop for Danny singing a song.

I know I started looking around online a lot more in May at least, after seeing the Idolatry clips bashing on Danny and trying to sort out what that was about. It just spiraled from there, and now is pretty well out of control.

I think a lot of Danny’s fans (this has been discussed a lot by the Gokey Gang, not sure about here) are not big internet fantards. You just don’t see them posting as much, or defending Danny. I think a lot are everyday “casual viewers” or busy people who don’t have time for all this fantard stuff (which was me until this year because of Danny, lol). And this was born out by the fact that Danny was never in the bottom 3 until he left. Yes, I’m sure all of us were good voters, but so were the other fanbases. Also Danny’s support even at the beginning of the tour was very good; beyond what you would expect from the hate and less posting of his fans on the internet.
This was to his detriment during the hate; because his fans just weren’t on the internet defending him; but I think it could work to his advantage post Idol- if he can attract a lot of fans that aren’t the usual rabid AI fans it could bode well for album sales. Because after all, that is what its all about- the successful Idols are not the ones that had the most rabid fans necessarily, but the ones that can attract the most non AI fans. Sorry for the long post!

Okay, so Danny’s been signed by a major record label, and now he will be working with a first-class producer. I think that the third prong of the success triangle will be the material.
In all honesty, I think AI has uncovered a number of talented singers (although I agree Danny brings something extra to the table). The big problem is what they sing afterwards. Some of that may be bad advice and direction by their record labels. No one in the music industry seems to be making the connection that fans like the songs that their Idols sang on the show — which by definition are all prior releases. In particular, fans often like their Idols’ takes on classic songs.
But they don’t make ‘em like they used to. (Which isn’t to say that their aren’t good, current songs out there.) But AI is flooding the market with talented singers, and I don’t know that there are enough first-class songwriters to keep up. Keep in mind that many artists write or cowrite their own songs. I don’t know that the songwriting market has been big enough to attract major talents. Add to that the squabbles over royalties, and I think we almost need an AI contest for songwriters!

Yeah, it’s like that at IDF too in the GD. People act like Danny doesn’t even exist. For example, someone started a thread about the signings. They called it something like “Will you buy Kris, Adam, Allison’s CD?” No mention of Danny, and this was AFTER he was signed. If I post something there about his success, they pretty much just ignore it. They can’t acknowledge his successes, but they have run out of arguments, so they just don’t say anything. It reminds me of Chris Sligh not even mentioning Danny’s name in his “advice to the idols.” Not mentioning Danny (especially with their being friends) is like pretending the elephant in the middle of the room isn’t there.

Pam, you made a very good point about most of Danny’s fans being casual fans, not internet fantards like us. Those are also the majority of people who buy CDs they hear on the radio. Danny has an enormous fanbase made up of these people, but I don’t think Kris and Allison do. Adam may outsell Danny, at least initially (because of all the media hype being directed toward him), but I doubt either Kris or Allison will. I think Adam and Danny–the two favorites from the beginning–will prove to also be the biggest sellers from this season. The producers know what the public wants, and its name isn’t Kradison.

Shirl, I just saw your post and had to laugh. Danny was surprised himself I flew from TX to see him, but like I told him, I would not have missed that first solo show for anything! After the Idol Live shows and now this solo show my nickname at work is “stalker”. The show was definitely worth every minute it took to get there and back.

Thanks, helio. That means I started lurking here at the end of May, or more likely, early June. I started listening to the performances on AI’s website anywhere from a few days to a week after Danny got voted off. And it took me at least a few weeks after that to encounter all the Danny Internet hate. That’s what drove me here.

I think Adam will sell the most at first too, because he is trendy for the young crowd (yes, I know he has a lot of cougar fans too, but I think he has the most young fans out of them all). I think his longevity will depend on how well he can grab the non AI fans -I know thats true for them all; I just think more so for him because he is such a visual performer and that is a large part of his appeal. I got slammed in GD for saying that of course, because of course his fans said, they only appreciate him for his perfect pitch, voice , range etc etc. They couldn’t even admit his glitter, guyliner and arguably good looks are a big part of his appeal. And yes we discuss Danny’s physical assets also, but I don’t think his performance is anywhere near as visual. In fact, he got slammed during AI for his awkward (adorkable) stage presence and dancing, whereas us true fans just loved the voice.

Pam, for me it was definitely the voice, at least at first. Also his personality. I thought he was really cute (and I love adorkable guys) but for several months I simply could not think of him as sexy. He kept all that under wraps and didn’t begin to bring it until almost the end of the season. But now…well, you know what they say, beware of what you ask for! He’s become sexier than I ever imagined. I think even the non-Danny obsessed agree he’s either the sexiest or second-sexiest idol from this season. Over and over I hear people who aren’t even his fans talk about how sexy he is.
But he’s not showy about it like Adam. Adam is sexy, I guess, but in a very studied, rehearsed way. He’s OTT sexy. Danny is just naturally sexy, it just flows out of him and he doesn’t even try. To me that is true sexiness.
Helio, that’s why I’m hoping you will do for Danny what you did for David. Because I WASN’T there for Danny’s journey.
I posted this before, but I discovered Danny through Susan Boyle. I was checking my e-mail, and my ISP had this Susan Boyle video up that, according to the ISP, had “gone viral.” I was curious, so I clicked on the video. Up to that time, I had never watched a video over the Internet. I LOVED Susan Boyle, and started watching the performance clips of Susan and her fellow contestants on “Britain’s Got Talent.”
In short, Susan Boyle led me to “Britain’s Got Talent,” “Britain’s Got Talent” led me to Simon Cowell, and Simon Cowell led me to “American Idol,” which in turn led me to Danny Gokey.
(Fortunately, I did not know at the time that there was a show called “America’s Got Talent.” But I had read about “American Idol,” so I knew it existed, even though I never watched it. As I mentioned earlier, I don’t watch TV.)
Anyway, around the same time that all this (Britain/Cowell) was happening, I read an article in the local paper that there had been this huge upset on American Idol, and that Danny Gokey — who Simon Cowell had thought would be in the top two — had been voted off. That made me curious, and that’s when I googled American Idol and started listening to various performances by a number of the Idols.
I can honestly say, though, “Danny, you had me at the first growl!” I liked him immediately, and I couldn’t understand all the criticisms of him. (Guess I missed that part!

A lot of people have suggested Danny duet and tour with Carrie. I think Sara would also be a pretty interesting pairing to try in a duet. (Seeing who else Mark has worked with — gotta say, I don’t want to see Danny doing any achy-breaky-anything, though, lol.)

Helio, Danny has that “boy next door” charm. It’s a sexiness that is based in reality, which means it is more accessible.
Danny is sexy in an understated way, and his attractiveness is all the more compelling when coupled with his personality.
We can all imagine actually BEING WITH someone like Danny. (Well, for some of us, if we were 20 years younger!

It’s nice to see someone who isn’t young and beautiful be recognized for their talent. I think we Americans need to improve some in that regard, where it seems the package is everything. I don’t ever remember seeing anyone pushing much for Kris there, though Adam has his fans. More of the people are going back to Daughtry or David Cook, or David Archie.
When we put Danny in, there were a few comments about whether Danny is “hot” but none of them questioned that he was very good-looking.
When I’ve dabbled in posting on threads with haters active, I’ve mentioned sometimes that in addition to his vocals and other strengths, Danny is very good-looking and that sure won’t hurt his career. At some point it struck me — never once did even a hater come back questioning that particular point, lol. Even haters must think Danny is pretty hot.

I agree that Danny is hot, but I still think it’s an understated hotness. (Not “in your face.”)
Steph, even most haters admit (grudgingly) that Danny is very good looking or even hot. They just don’t like his personality or sometimes, his voice. Early in the season I remember some people saying he was ugly or “fugly” but hardly anyone says that anymore. I remember DC got the same kind of reactions about his looks early in his season but no one would say he was fugly now.
It surprises me that DavidArchie is considered sexy. He’s definitely cute, but thinking of him as “hot” seems kind of icky to me. Maybe if I was 16, haha.

Ellen, I saw your comments at 12:01. As far as “being with” someone like him, all I can say is, it’s nice to dream, and whoever is lucky enough to have Danny fall in love with her is the luckiest woman in the world.
In the abstract, I’m not overly fond of Danny’s speaking voice (or his tendency to talk fast).
But when I like someone, everything about that person gets rolled into the overall package.
For example, I have a friend who likely would be considered geeky-looking. But he has such an incredible personality that I can no longer think of him as anything but attractive.
Now, I am not saying that Danny looks geeky. He doesn’t — in fact, what that man does for a pair of glasses is smokin’.
But for people to pick apart aspects of Danny’s looks or personality doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. It’s the whole package.
Ellen, it took me awhile to get used to Danny’s speaking voice. I thought he sounded a little “ghetto,” haha. Now I just think it’s adorkable.

Helio, that’s about what I saw Pam saying as far as Archie. Didn’t want to be feeling like a cradlerobber–although he’s ‘cute’. At least some of the people who had him as their fave said they were in their 20s or 30s, not all his age. Lots of David Cook fans in that thread. They were even defending the combover, lol–hardcore!
Ellen, I liked your comments and agree. Although I think the understated part is getting a little less so all the time as Danny gets more confident and his style has emerged more clearly.
I also think Danny’s personality, in all its facets, has a lot to do with his appeal, combined with that raspy growly voice, and all the rest (gah). He has potential to do really well, and I’m not sure I’ve been able to think of anyone else quite like him that I’ve seen on the music scene. Adam probably will also do very well, but if you look at the movie world, I usually read that G/PG-rated movies do a ton more business and have higher probability of succeeding than R-rated ones year-to-year.

Well, helio, I wasn’t intending to be literal about imagining “being with” Danny. But I do think that women are responding to Danny in part because on an unconscious level, they recognize that Danny has the kind of sexiness that is attainable, i.e., they might actually find a man who is good-looking in an understated way, surprisingly passionate, and nice and kind to boot!
Actually, those men are not thick on the ground. But I think Danny makes you want to look beneath the surface. I think someone who is attracted to Danny might clue in and give men that they might not otherwise give a second glance a second chance.
