Hello to all Gokey fans!
I’m copying my comment from the concert recap category. I’m still totally overwhelmed by Danny and his performance of ” I can only imagine”. I made up my mind this morning that I’m going to see Danny performing live within a year! There is no stopping me now.

Because today’s discussion thread isn’t up yet I just have to pour my heart out here.. I’m not that religious person, but Danny’s performance on “I can only imagine” is so amazingly beautiful that I’ve been watching that YouTube video like ten times already. I’m in tears and blown away by that beautiful performance.
Danny,if you ever get to read this, I don’t think that you are yet fully aware what you are doing to your fans.. I’ve never been like this with any artist.
Goodmorning Hannele Yayyy Danny worked it out!!! the ladies who attended the gig indicated that the videos don’t do service to what Danny sounded like live!! I definitely enjoyed “I can only imagine” he sounded awesome!! he voice was soft and passionate!!!

Good morning Latrece! This one video has “messed up” my day and I’m just daydreaming.. One thing is sure, I’ll buy whatever music Danny is recording for the rest of my life. I just love his voice and you were so right in that his voice sounds so soft and passionate in that song.
Danny is definitely having fun with the band. It felt as if they are best friends. Quite a good looking bunch of guys Danny has in his band!
We Gokey girls were on PIn and Needeles get tweets on how Danny was performing!!! the ladies felt that the band was great; the band really flowed with Danny’s vibe, they got totally into whole spirit of the music!! I am happy for Danny. we don’t know what the attendance were ( was it half full, or three fourths full??!!). I have a few things to do, I will return later!!
Hello R-squared, what a lucky lady you are to have seen Danny performing yesterday. I would have paid a whole lot more than 25 dollars for that concert.
Hannele, I’m lucky to have found you all: you ladies keep me updated. I probably wouldn’t have even KNOWN about the concert otherwise!
R-squared, I can only imagine how awesome Danny sounded live.. It’ such a pity that he won’t be doing these small concerts when he becomes more famous.
Like you, Hannele, I was blown away by that beautiful performance of “I Can Only Imagine.” Danny’s voice was passionate and beautiful, and the band was awesome! I loved the way Danny engaged with them as well as the audience. They seem to all be good friends. The guitarist is hot too, and really seemed to be having fun. I’m sorry to bring up David Cook again, but the way the guitarist was jumping up and down in the middle of the performance reminded me of DC
s AI performance of “Eleanor Rigby.” Deja vu! I also loved the way Danny sat down while he sang this. It was very intimte and beautiful, and Danny looked so hot in that outfit. A vast improvement over the outfit he wore on the tour.
I loved the way he removed his glasses during WHTM too–and left them off. I saw him wiping his eyes again, I guess he was getting emotional. Maybe that’s why he left the glasses off this time.
Danny has a way of engaging with and involving the audience that is very rare. It seems as if he’s singing just to you. I also love the way he was smiling during several of the performances, including ICOI. He has the most beautiful, sweet, and slightly sad smile I’ve ever seen.
If I had any doubt before Danny would become a megastar, it’s all been removed.
Helio, I was so taken over by emotion and felt so happy for Danny. I’m so over the top today and had to call my boyfriend at work to tell him that we are travelling to US latest next year to see Danny. Luckily he didn’t ask me to calm down, but said that he is quite willing to travel as long as we can do other things while we are over there!
I’m typing so fast that I missed out some words.. My boyfriend said he is willing to travel if we get to do other things as well, such as seeing the sights etc. He said he is not willing to “stalk” Danny or get into any other crazy stuff, because I’ve become a Danny fanatic.
Helio, I totally agree with you. Anybody who can move people that way is bound to become a huge star.
Hannele, I wish I didn’t have to go to work today because watching these have made me very emotional and I feel like crying. I’m afraid I might cry at work. So you’re not the only one feeling a little…verklempt.
I also wanted to mention how happy I was he sang YASB. But why isn’t there a video of this? Thanks so much, Amy, for posting the ones that are up there, especially ICOI.
Danny looked so comfortable up there, like he’s been doing this for years. The band did too. They have amazing onstage chemistry. I hope these are the guys he stays with.

Helio, I’m not getting much work done today, so I think you’ll find it quite difficult to concentrate on things. I actually had tears rolling down my face this morning and I don’t usually get that way.. I’m a living proof that Danny’s voice can do funny things to you..
Hannele, he does that to me a lot. But especially this time. I don’t actually have tears rolling down my face like you, but only because I’m holding them back. I don’t want to go to work with my eyes all red and puffy but when I come home I bet I’ll let loose. No video watching for me this morning, that’s for sure!
Helio, luckily I’m working from home today, because I need to finish an important report. This means that I have to pull myself together and get the work done..
I guess it’s a good thing there isn’t a video of YASB yet. I’d be sobbing for sure and not able to go to work.
I wonder if these are the permanent members of Danny’s band. I also wonder if he will have a band name or just use his name for the album. Probably the latter.

Jen and I don’t fly back until tonight. It looks like everyone has been able to see the youtube videos.
Hannele – I promise you if you make the trip to the US to see Danny perform for a solo concert – YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPPOINTED!!!!
Everyone in the audience was very emotional during “I Can Only Imagine” because he talked about someday meeting up with Sophia again in Heaven and looked up at the sky! ***tears***
But there were so many other moments of heartfelt, soulful singing including WHTM and YASB. I really am speechless and can’t describe it! I am getting the feeling that this was a one of a kind show, his journal from AI and into the next phase of his life – Country. I doubt he will be singning Motown/Gospel on his Country tour! I felt like he was singing some of these songs for the last time (September, Heard it Through the Grapevine, Ain’t too Proud to Beg)
For people that did not like Danny during Motown week, his transformation has been incredible with his stage performance, dance moves, comfort on stage – amazing!
I do have to comment that when Danny announced last night that he was heading to the recording studio, he said “I can’t tell you the name of the producer until I get into the studio, but I will give you a HINT – it’s the same producer as Carrie Underwood!” So I didn’t tweet it was supposed to be a secret – LOL! Danny can’t keep a secret.
I don’t know if you can tell from the videos that the band was dancing, jamming, bouncing up and down during the more uptempo songs (PYT, Life is a Highway, etc). Mr.Talkbox was rocking!
If anyone was wondering how Danny would do on his solo concert – debut – I think we all know what the answer is – ABSOLUTELY BEYOND INCREDIBLE!

Hannele you are correct we knew that Danny had great potential!! I can’t wait until he does an overseas tour, they are going to love him because he is so passionate and sincere!! Also, I would like to see him in a beautiful relationship again; I know he probably don’t have time to nurture a relationship and he is going to be intensely busy for the next year, but hopefully he will find beautiful love in the process!!
Also, I may be a good tweeter (TGIF for my iphone), but a bad smuggler! very bummed I couldn’t smuggle in my camera!
oooh thank you Michelle!!! was the attendance at least half way full??? I know he did not get a lot of publicity with this concert!! was it really that empty in the room??

Latrece – we were sitting in the front, it was not empty at all! and and the college students were really ready for a party! Singing and dancing along we were on our feet dancing and singing for most of the show.
Latrece, the arena was absolutely packed, a couple of the back rows were empty and some of the alumni reserved seats were empty, otherwise it was full. Clearly this was an alumni event celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the College. I think they opened it up to the public when it didn’t sell out. I don’t think they publicized it very much, because they didn’t necessarily want to open it to the public (based on how strict and rude they were) when we got there.
Michelle, thank you so much for all the tweets and telling us how it was at the concert. I also feel kind of sad, because you may be right that Danny won’t be performing these kinds of songs for a long time. You are so fortunate to have had the opportunity to see Danny so many times.

Michelle, that’s great that Danny had such a good turnout. Just from the tweets, it’s clear people came from all around NY/surrounding states and other parts of the country. They sound really enthusiastic in the background of the youtube’s.
I’m loving these new videos. The quality isn’t the best but so nice to see Danny in such a relaxed performance compared to the very programmed tour set–he seems to have been really enjoying himself. Plus several of the songs are looooong performances == more Danny.

I actually think when he does concerts in a longer format, Danny may well be able to sneak in one or two of the non-country songs in the future as a change of pace. He could probably get away with a latin or more r&b number in that context, if he presents it as part of his history for example as he did yesterday.
It was interesting to watch how they did some of the new songs like Life is a Highway with this band. It was pretty rocking, but not extremely ‘country’ sounding. I’ll be curious to see if there are hints some of these band members will be going in for the recording sessions with Danny.
steph6449 I believe danny will be able to throw in some R&B too at some of his concerts in the future. I hope some of his band members are involved in his recording sections; he needs all the committed suport he can get!

I hope Danny do some collaboration with Christina Aguilera and Lionel Richie!!! I love Christina’s passion and voice and I love Richie’s Soulfullness!!
Hannele I am doing the same thing; I am really busy today but I am trying to get my little Danny fix!!
Hannele I had literally 400 sheets of paper that I had to review and grade yesterday, so I am still working on it; I am about 90% complete, I will finish in another hour. Then I will have tons of phone calls to make ( 10- 12 calls??)!!
Latrece, your task is huge compared to mine! Good luck with it and hopefully Danny’s voice won’t distract you too much..

i agree with everything Michelle said about the show last night. Incredible!!! I was able to smuggle 2 cameras in and think I got a few decent shots. I don’t fly back until late tonight to see them on a computer rather this 2″ screen. I’ll let you know what I have.

Good morning Pam, I’ve been a total mess today, because of these new videos. I’m totally hooked on “I can only imagine”. Anything to do with Danny should have a “warning” label on it, because his voice can cause major distraction! I have to put in extra hours at work this week, because today has been spent mostly daydreaming..

Michelle- dannyzanaconda is a jealous sort and must have tried to grab some spotlight for himself, lol.
Hannele- Danny is such a joyous person and performer, he just shines.
He was great at him homecoming concert (lots of the same band members) and he sure looked comfortable and happy here. And no matter what, those vocals……. So many performers don’t sound as good as their studio recordings but I think Danny is one who is such a force that he shines in concert.
So happy you are definitely coming at some point to the US! We will help you with suggestions on things your boyfriend will enjoy, depending what state you are in! Maybe you can make it a warm state during your coldest months

I am one who also is not a big country fan, but rather than be depressed by all the awesome motown he did, I am excited!
Danny infuses his soul and personality into everything he sings, and I think his country will shine as true Danny.
And I agree with Latrece, there is no reason why he can’t throw in some R&B at concers; other artists frequently “go off topic” and get creative at concerts- so can Danny. After all, he will appeal to more than just the country crowd.
And it will be easy to insert a gospel song into (even an R&B one) any performance or album.
Everyone seems to love I Can Only Imagine (even me, who is NOT into religious music, except in church, lol)
Danny had a “Meet and Greet” with the fans after the show. The MSMC staff people were sort of “rude” trying to rush Danny and keep everything short. They made you leave after your turn. 5 – 10 seconds with D!
We were at the back of the line and then they just announced he had to leave! 
Jen and I did get some time to spend talking with Byron (Mr.TalkBox). He wished me a Happy Birthday! Very Sweet! He called us his Twitter Peeps and remembered us.

Pam, I would actually like to visit the states, which are up north. I don’t actually like too warm weather that much. As I’m an outdoors kind of person I would love to see the great lakes and do some hiking. I need to go to Africa before the year ends, but next year I want to come over to US. The only thing is that my boyfriend would also like to see Rascal Flatts while we are there,so it will be a challenge schedule wise.
pjgvet – the MSMC students were also the volunteer “Staff” for the concert. Many of them helped seat people, then they were in the front row for the show (this makes sense!) Danny spontaneously asked the girl from MSMC to come up on stage after he saw her dancing in the front row!
pjgvet – Danny looked very similar to his outfit at NWMF Concert, except no plaid shirt! – Very Hot! He looked like he is back to doing his own hair!

Hi Everyone. I am still in a daze at how amazing last night’s show was. I wish the whole thing had been recorded! ICOI was beautiful. I watched all the videos a number of times. Maria, Maria and Smooth are AMAZING. His salsa moves and the way he sways his body to the music.ooooooh! It was funny when he zipped his fly up. Too cute how he stuck his tongue out after he zipped it. Dancing with the girl was so spontaneous and I love it. Danny always wanted to pull someone on stage and obviously he recognized she could salsa. Too adorable – Lucky girl!
I know I said it a number of times, but I am sure that this was a one of a kind show that probably won’t be repeated unless he has something else already booked. He is going to be doing country and I doubt he will be able to do all the R&B and Latin songs at his concerts. Sure wish I would have went to this one!
I hope somebody recorded YASB. I would love to hear that.

Thanks also to JEN for tweeting the songs as well. Between the two of you we got a complete picture of the amazing night.
I am thinking it would be great to send an array of prayers and well wishes to Danny, as he enters the studio to record. I’m not a Twitter Peep, but perhaps some of you would like to send him a synchronized tweet. As for me, I am going to the big guy. I am simply going to say a prayer for Danny.

Have to go to work, but agree–Danny was looking good! I think that’s a good look for him that he should be able to keep for the future, with dark jeans, a modern type of boot that isn’t too cowboy-ish, and great shirt or shirt with vest.
Looking forward to rewatching all the videos again tonight, and maybe some new ones by then

Well, let’s hope that Danny comes to Summerfest as invited! It is the world’s largest outdoor music festival, so your Boyfriend could see jazz, country, althernative, hard rock, soft rock, reggae, you name it! And they do get big names also. Chicago is a hop away also; many famous things to see there also. But it can get hot in July, although almost never by the Great Lake Michigan
Wish you all could have enjoyed the night like Michelle and I did…Danny was looking hotter than ever
We stood in line to meet Danny after the show. When it was getting to be our turn, security told us he had to leave
Had been tweeting Byron all week about wishing Michelle a Happy Birthday at the show…when he came out after concert, I called him over and introduced myself and Michelle as the girls who came from Milwaukee…he said I remember you (meaning me and my tweets) and wished Michelle a Happy Birthday and gave her a hug. He is SOOOOO down to earth – I can see why Danny wants him to be part of his band!

Wisconsin is a wonderful outdoor rec area, whether it is fishing, hunting or hiking (wilderness hiking up NOrth, you can even canoe the Boundary waters Northern MN or ferry to Isle Royale in Lake Superior border of Canada- famous model for balanced Ecosystem between Moose and wolves since its an island.
I am hoping the link to the ‘Ain’t to Proud to Beg’ video can be fixed.

I loved how Danny was dressed, although a bright colored shirt would also have looked good because Danny looks good in those purples, pinks, and reds. Many of us guessed right that about what he would wear. He looks so good in those vests he wears. So glad he lost the boots!

Hannele Danny’s DM was not in response to the voice tweets. It was in response to an email I had sent him about the show and his career. This one was shorter and it was a thank you for the kind things I said in the email.
Hi Jen: It sounds like the security really did not like the people who were not students or staff of MSMC. Possibly they did not want to have to open it to the public and resented the “outsiders”. Danny probably would have tried to talk with everyone if they hadn’t cut him off.

Cheryl was so sweet to eloquently say her wish for me was to hear a great show AND get quality time with Danny. I too had a wonderful trip especially after I talked my way to the 2nd row…with help from friends. Danny’s memory amazes me becuz he even recognized I had gotten a haircut! I know; I think many of us have the same opinion; if we would have known about this concert before the tour ended, we would have saved our $$ (esp. me, who went to two concerts) and gone to this one!
So sad it was such short notice.
I hadn`t finished, typing too fast! I was moved beyond belief at his performance-he has proved that he CAN sing ANYTHING-and make it his own-the sign of a TRUE STAR!`I Can Only Imagine` has to be the most beautiful song I have ever heard- Anyone who fails to be moved by that, has to have a heart of stone-I loved,everything about the performance-it was his best, in my opinion-One of the things I liked the most about the whole concert-it was so intimate-It was as if Danny was in a room, with a group of close friends-relaxed, doing what he does best-and not many performers can achieve that-Any doubts I had about the musical path he is following, are gone-becauseI know he WILL bring something new to country music-and now I CAN`T WAIT! I could go on all day about this-but-as I stayed up, unable to sleep until 6 am-I have to get myself moving-I did thank Michelle and Jen on Twitter and The Gokey Street Team I`m now following-they did an incredible job last night-MY wish is,a DVD of this concert-probably unrealistic-but, as this is another partof Dannys` `metamorphis` into a superstar-we want to keep it all, and I will bet that everyone here feels SO PROUD today, because we followed him from the beginning, and saw something in Daniel J Gokey that we just KNEW would make him the biggest star to emerge from AI EVER-I am writing to Danny this week, was going to anyway, and sending it to S.H.F. -but, the wayIfeel now I would just like to Email him -Don`t want to invade his privacy though-I have to go-back to reality-I bet the wretched `dial-up` hasn`t much credit left now!

Michelle and Jen, I didn’t stick around afterward because I thought Danny looked tired, and I didn’t want to make him even more so.
Cheryl, I don’t think it’s a good idea to take photographs during concerts, even when it’s allowed, because it takes your focus away from the performances. Between the two of us, my husband and I didn’t miss A THING!

Danny did say in one of his messages to me that he thought I would be surprised with his country sound. I will say that I am pleased that Danny clearly wants to infuse as much soul as possible in his music and hopefully the label will recognize how unique it will be and how successful it will be in the crossover market. His version of Life is a Highway didn’t sound as country as the orginal and he added lots of beautiful riffs and ad libs at the end. I hope this is what he has in mind for his music, because I loved it.
Cheryl, after this concert I think Danny is going to surprise us all with his album. He is a strong person and most likely has his opinions about what kind of sound he would like to add to the songs. I hope that the record label is going to give him some artistic freedom, because he definitely knows how to add his unique sound to different genres of music.

I teased Ellen once about discarding her lawyerly reserve and becoming a full fledged Danfangirl and now I must welcome you to the ranks!
Still reliving yesterday. OMG!!!! Wasn’t able to attend any of the American Idol concerts but I was lucky enough to be there last night with my husband (what a guy – what a great sport he was). Well, at the very last minute (around 5:00pm) after my younger son’s soccer game I decided to go (I know it sounds crazy). I quickly downloading the directions to MSMC and took off with my wonderful hubby in the pouring rain. It was too late to order tickets online so I knew we were taking a risk but somehow in my heart I knew we’d get in. Drove up north to New York from north Jersey (1 1/2 hrs.). Luckily the concert wasn’t sold out and the tickets were only $30.00 (a bargain) at the entrance. We sat in the 3rd row center orchestra section (fantastic seats) but truthfully there were no bad seats in the house. The venue was your typical small college auditorium (bigger than a high school auditorium) which probably accomodates between 600-700 people at the most. It felt intimate up-close and personal to me. Concert started about 15 minutes late. It only lasted an hour (in my opinion….not enough Gokey time.) Danny looked great, well rested, slender (his jeans fit him nicely), well groomed, happy, genuine, natural, and so comfortable on stage. Danny also was funny at times (cracked a joke or two about his dancing and Simon, forgot a few words to a song (no big deal), sensitive, emotional, passionate and super energetic at all times. He definitely gave it his all and brought down the house. A large number of the MSMC students attending were sitting in the first two rows. Boy….they were on their feet, singing, dancing and screaming during most of the concert. They loved Danny a whole lot. His voice sounded great and loved his dancing (those hips were unstoppable). At on point, Danny invited one of the MSMC students to join him on stage to dance with him (latin moves). She did a great job and she’s probably still on cloud nine. Danny also introduced his band members to everyone and to my surprise there were actually four family members in it (Sophia’s side of the family) playing instruments (guitar and trumphet) and a back-up singer (I think it was one of Sophia’s sister). Norma Thank you so much for posting comments about your experience. I’m excited for you and for us because you got a firstand account of Danny’s show and we get to live vicariously through your description.
What I adore about Danny is that he is so uinhibited on stage. He loves to move his body and there are not a lot of men who are comfortable doing that. I’ve watched the Maria, Maria/smooth video a number of times and the way he sways his hips to the music is so sexy. Danny really knows how to work a stage. I could tell the crowd was into him and you could see on his face how joyful he was in his performing.
I love how he made the mistake in JTTW, yet laughed about it and moved on in such a comfortable way that it made the audience laugh along with him and everybody loved the song. Also his comfort in pulling someone up on stage caused a lot of excitement in the audience. Danny is so endearing and I think anyone who sees him for the first time falls in love with not only his amazing voice, but with his personality and stage presence.
Danny is going to be a huge star!

Hi Latrece, didn`t know you were here today-I think we`re all feeling very passionately about that AWESOME concert, my 11.02 post proved that! But, it really touched me-that son I Can Only Imagine, I hadn`t heard before- and it affected me WORSE than YASB-I need to get pen to paper and write that letter-trouble is, I`m exhausted-late nights, and I`m `introducing` a friend, who also suffers from M.E. toDanny-I was even e-mailing VIDEOS yesterday-can`t believe Idid that!! I mailed her a biography, photos and links for videos-she`s just emerging out of the dark tunnel-having been bedridden for years-She is going to love Danny, and she will be first on the list to go to a concert with me-Dial up is becoming a pain-but we haven`t even got a phone line here-just use mobiles and the bank have messed up our Direct Debit account-so we`re trying to sort that out-therefore, Broadband isn`t an option just yet-oh well. What a shame Karen isn`t here-I hope she manages to watch some videos-even if she has to do it in secret! I DM here all the time, but I never had a response-Norma, thankyou for that great review-I wonder if there was anyone from a newspaper there?

Yes! Danny said tonight that the person producing his album was the same as the person who produced Carries, and that’s Bright, right?
Guys, Danny was awesome tonight! He had so much energy onstage and his crowd interaction was great! The band was great, too, but I have to say that they were a little bandzillaish. They did drown Danny out some. He had two backup singers (one was Sofia’s sister), guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, trumpet, and saxophone players. I thought, how in hell is he gonna pay all those people?
He did forget some of the first verse of Jesus Take the Wheel, but he did such an AWESOME job with the rest of the song that it didn’t even matter. He had the audience sing the chorus twice and it was so soft and intimate and beautiful. I’ve never heard an audience sing for such a long part. It was truly beautiful.
Danny made fun of himself later as he was going through some of the songs he had sung, and mentioned Jesus Take the Wheel….he said something to the effect of, “Yeah, I had better let Jesus take the wheel, cause I sure as heck forgot those lyrics.” Everyone laughed.
He spontaneously brought one of the students there up onstage to dance with him during Maria Maria. It was great. Great voice, great personality, and he looked great, too. Awesome night!
When the concert was over, I was impressed with the long line at the area where they were selling SHF tshirts and wrist bands. I had bought a wristband before the show, and so I was leaving the building. Then I heard people screaming, and I thought, “Danny’s got to be in there.” People outside started running back inside.
Sure enough, Danny was “working” the merchandise table. He was signing autographs, taking pics, and giving hugs. I bought another wristband.

Less than an hour later Danny appeared at the lobby entrance. He took a seat at a desk…all prepard with markers and flyers which were passed around for signing. Of course, he was very accommodating to every single one of us. So sweet, thoughtful and simply delicious. I had my ticket stub signed. Then my husband and I decided to grab a snack before heading home to Jersey. We went back-n-forth between KFC or the local diner. We settled for the diner. Sat by the window drinking my chocolate milkshake (not too thick) and just reliving the entire concert. At one point, I said to my husband, wouldn’t it be funny if Danny and his band stopped in for a bite before heading to the hotel. Well, all of a sudden this small shuttle bus whick looked very familiar..like the one we saw at the college pulled into a parking spot and Danny suddenly appears. I felt like my wish came true. Latrece, Danyl nearly DIDN`T make it-he got too ambitious with a song arrangement and just found his way back in time lol-he is gorgeous though, he`s got the scruff, huge eyes-very emotional..Afro boy Jamie, he`s 34-didn`t realise, yes, he made it-he`s got an amazing voice-he and Danyl are lucky, they`re in Simons group-whatever anyone says about him, over here, when he is `mentoring` a group of singers, he really gives it his all- One of the other judges is Cheryl Cole? From `Girls Aloud` top group-maybe you don`t know them, but she is so sweet and just beautiful, she got the boys to mentor, so she was happy! They were ecstatic! They`re all off to the judges houses now-and Danni Minogue, who is looking after the girls-has her sister with her! You have to know KYLIE Minogue, I think? That was a surprise, they all have a friend to help them make the decision of who goes through to the `live shows`-it gets very emotional- I felt so sorry for Dominic, a young coloured guy who had lost out last year, he came back this year and I loved him-but it was decided he wouldn`t go through-hhe was in Danni Minogues group last year, and she was in pieces-poor girl-I would be useless on that show-they`d all need umberellas lol!! One group has already been thrown out, one of them was `under age`! and the `rumour machine` is starting-Danyl is, apparently, bi-sexual..WHO CARES!

Hey y’all!!! Just got finished watching the video from last night’s show. They were pretty good as I’d expected them to be. Just wish the sound quality was better though, but it’s better than not being able to watch them at all I guess. From reading the recaps,reviews, etc. The show was amazing!!! Good for my ‘future boo-boo’. Now he finally gets to go into the studio to start working on his album tomorrow. Go ‘head, Danny!!! Can’t wait to hear his first single come Novemeber. This is the text of the mj article. Her reporting is off, as Danny did more songs that she says. But it’s nice that she has also posted several of the videos, and describes the crowd as enthusiastic with a nod to the news about Mark Bright.
From things I’ve seen before (there was a similar pic of WHTM, I think), the comments on the photo is probably because Danny has his arms out wide, which some of the snark-inclined people giggle at as supposedly a Christian/inspirational pose.
“Danny Gokey performed an 11-song set to an enthusiastic crowd at Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY on Sunday.
It was his first concert since he wrapped up the American Idols Live tour with his fellow Top 10 contestants in Manchester, NH a few weeks ago.
Danny told the enthusiastic audience that he was heading into the studio Tuesday and Wednesday to record 5 singles for his upcoming album, scheduled to come out on 19R/Sony Nashville early next year.
His first single, according to recent twitters, is due in November. Danny told Sunday’s crowd he’ll be working in the studio with “Carrie Underwood’s producer.” Money us on Mark Bright, CEO of Word Records, who has produced for Carrie, and someone Danny has expressed an interest in working with.

Shirl, dunno about why mj chose that photo. I don’t think anyone would really have an issue with it, except the ones who’ve got that predisposition. Even then I’m not sure they are really Danny-haters. Some of the AI fans who call Danny “Father” actually seem to really like him, they’ve just adopted that term to be cute, I guess (in their view of things).
It looked to me as if she got the article mostly from parsing a few tweets and possibly reading the recap here, since she used the same number of songs that Amy or Owlki got from Michelle’s tweets (which didn’t include Jen’s tweet song list). In general, it seemed like a fair/positive post to me–MJ didn’t mention at all the two things that might have been embarrassing for Danny for example.
None of the comments are seriously hating on Danny, either. I haven’t posted on that mj thread yet, but will sometime later tonight along with some of the other sites I visit.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. Got interrupted by work. Imagine that!
Anyway, I partly agreed with your earlier comments. (Although I did wonder whether Danny deliberately used the opportunity to touch his shirt/chest on WHTM as a sop to our inner fangirls!) It did seem that some of the gestures were extreme — like he had to translate the song for us. I still think Danny could gesture, etc., more effectively, but I think that will come with time and experience.
The most important thing I noted about the Mount St. Mary’s concert was that Danny finally felt free to truly be himself. I think what people experienced at the concert was Danny unfiltered!

I’ve never seen Danny looking as happy and relaxed as he did last night. Ellen, Cheryl, I think he is toning down the gesturing as he gains more experience, and expressing the emotions of the song in more subtle or visceral ways than pantomiming, which seems almost a beginner’s tactic. Danny is no longer a beginner; last night he looked like he’s been doing this for year. He’s made an incredible transformation, and I think much of this has to do with newfound confidence.
He has the ability to move his audience deeply, and connect with them on a deeper level than most artists can. He is also very versatile, and this proves he’s no one trick pony.
I saw the comments at MJs and very few, in fact almost none, are negative. At least two people said they had liked him at first, then lost interest since they felt he wasn’t progressing on the show, but now like or love him again because he has progressed since the season ended.
I saw the picture of Adam and I hate to say that he looks terrible! Italian porn star is right! He also looks like a cartoon “villain.” What was he thinking?

Although I think there is something to the feedback someone gave him on the show to hold in the body language at least sometimes, to let the power of the song come through in other ways. I thought I noticed him doing that also in the videos from last night.

I had my first Danny dream early this morning. I dreamt that I was at a Chic-Fil-A (sp?) at the Chesterfield Mall in St. Louis (which as far as I know doesn’t have such a restaurant — not sure they locate at malls). Anyway, I saw the back of Danny’s head. A restaurant worker was thanking him for bringing more traffic to the restaurant by people looking for Danny-sitings. But here’s the good part –
The next thing I knew — you, Helio were there. Danny saw you and said, “I remember you. You are the AI fan who helped me with my song selection!” Then I woke up!

I noticed in the pics from the stage last night that Danny was really sweating a lot. On his chest and a lot underneath his arms. At first I thought he might’ve spilled water on himself, but it’s sweat. For some reason, that’s awfully, very, VERY, sexy to me…lol..I’m trying not to be too detailed. Danni, I agree with you about the sweat. I think he sweats so much when he performs partly because he gets so into it, and feels so much passion and emotion, that he literally releases it from his body. I shall say no more!

I was very careful in what I posted on MJ’s last night and this morning. I posted on yesterday’s and todays headlines threads about Danny’s concert. I purposely didn’t post any videos and mostly played up Danny’s announcement of working with Carrie Underwood’s producer. I did mention the number o songs he performed (thought it was 11) and about very positive tweets form those at the concert. Someone else after me asked MJ if she would post Danny’s concert on it’s own blog. MJ said she would if she had videos. Then someone posted a link to some of Danny’s video’s on Utube. I think it is good that she posted it and I thanked her. I am very happy there there are only positive comments ater the article. I just don’t think Danny has as many haters anymore – not after the tour. There are a few hold-outs but only a few.

Based on the reports, Danny did 14 songs altogether. I added a comment about the extra three songs to Amy’s article here, since some people are circulating that link or using it as a source for other news. The other three are ones that Michelle didn’t tweet, as she and Jen were rotating duty for a while. Believe Amy’s post only used the ones on Michelle’s twitter.

Actually, I got most of it right. And I nailed the height — for some reason I thought you were exactly 5’5″. I also got the medium build, medium length hair, age (or at least the age you look — was thinking mid-to-late 30s
. Got the skin partly right — pale (but not very pale). I messed up most on the hair — it was light brown but fairly thick, not thin.

Latrece, if you are still here, I’m going to make a naughty observation. Hope I don’t get in trouble. I think the topic came up once before based on Nancy in Wisconsin’s Danny photo — or maybe it was the tour photo where Danny looks like the male equivalent of the proverbial blond bombshell — you know, the male curves one. Anyway, I am so glad that Danny did not have a wardrobe misfunction during “I Can Only Imagine,” because with him sitting the way he did, the eye is naturally drawn to a certain spot. Apparently when Danny performs, every part of his body wants to get in the act!

Ellen, I thought that was great also that the college kids showed up and enjoyed the show. From the twitter traffic, it seemed that there were a lot of younger fans who traveled from the surrounding area for it as well.

I agree, Ellen. I think this is a good strategy to attract more fans among the college aged crowd. I’m not sure if that was the reasoning behind him doing a show there but I think it worked out well. However, I doubt his solo tour would be confined to mostly colleges, like DC’s was, because Danny is not trying to establish “rock cred” among non-Idol fans. He could do a tour of smallish venues and clubs, that attract many people in their 20s-40s, with only a few college campuses thrown in. I think that would be a good strategy for Danny.

And I have been burnt too often — buying a CD for one song and disliking the rest of the album. So I’d be interested in what she thinks of the rest of the album, because I might be interested in buying it.

Ellen, I hope Danny will have plenty more appearances before his single, even if not concerts. Or maybe he will do one or more concerts like the one today, since it seems to have gone so well.
Once Danny is really under the wing of RCA Nashville for all that (which I didn’t think the MSMC gig was), hoping they will get him into some tv appearances, tv/radio interviews, attending awards shows with people from his label, singing at a benefit concert, etc.
He won’t have original material to show for a while, but he could do one of the songs he’s known for, or maybe duet with someone which would be fun. (I’m just wishing here, lol.)

Pjgvet, I took your advice and it worked! I was watching the video, that’s where I was. You didn’t tell me it had a brief clip of “Stand By Me” as well.
You are right that the audio on this is much better, but as for the angle on the video during “I Can Only Imagine” — well, let’s just saw that the angle wasn’t quite as interesting as the other video with “I Can Only Imagine” on it!

I think Father is (mostly) an affectionate term when I’ve seen it, anytime recently. Don’t know when it started, his little talk (“sermon”) in the AI Tour may have prompted it.
One of the Rickey substitute cellcasters used it, I think, even though Danny was her second or third favorite. I saw a group of young people who went to MSMC and used it also, but they clearly liked Danny and a couple of them raved about the show afterward.

Students who attend Mount St. Mary’s College are more likely to be Catholic than not — in which case, it is almost certainly being used as a term of affection!

Not to say the use of “Father” could not be intended as derogatory. Depends on who’s saying it and how they say it. Context is everything, but sometimes it can be hard to figure out on the Internet!

You are right. The words of the song don’t mesh well with what I was noticing. (On the first video of “Imagine” — I didn’t notice anything on the second video.) It’s really a beautiful song.
Actually, last night I pulled out a tape from a Christian rock group that played at my former church’s 150th anniversary (when I lived in another state). I’ve googled them repeatedly, but I don’t think they ever got a record contract. Very sad, because they were/are very talented.
Anyway, this group did two slow songs that are incredible. On one, I cry every time I hear it. I can really see Danny knocking either of those songs out of the park. But they are Christian songs — not something he wants to do right now.

Ellen, hasn’t Danny said he always wants to include one (or 1-2) gospel songs on his albums? I think he probably will include some type of Christian/inspirational song for his first CD, but don’t see him releasing anything like that as a single.

Yes, he has said that. This group that I am referring to has never had a “real” album released that I am aware. What I have seems like a demo tape. But oh, Steph, you cannot believe how beautiful the two slow songs are! I may post the lyrics here tomorrow, if no one would be offended by my doing so.
(Of course, I like the fast songs as well, but they are definitely rock!)

I just listened to that new video Rachel posted with the full-length version of JTTW leading into the Mercy Me song (this one — http://vidly.com/aeLh).
Wow, I can appreciate a lot better why some of the tweets yesterday were talking about it. Danny does so much more with it than he could do in that tiny bit that appeared on the show, and the backup singers certainly get a great chance to shine; just wish they were visible in the video.
If Danny gets set up with the right kind of situation to tour, people are just going to eat it up. In the concert yesterday and his tour set also, he really gets the audience into things and works a song to make a meaningful experience of it, whether it’s something like this slowed-down JTTW, or something rockin’ like where they took Life is a Highway.
