Danny Gokey, the only contestant among the Top Four from this season’s “American Idol” not to sign a record contract, said today an announcement is imminent.

Gokey, in a telephone interview with The Morning Call to promote the “American Idols Live” tour’s stop tomorrow at Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, declined to give details on the pending deal.

“All I can say is there’s good news,” Gokey, who finished third behind winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert, he said from Albany, N.Y., where the tour plays tonight. “That’s all I can say. There’s good news on the horizon.

“I’ve been told to keep my mouth kind of quiet about it,’ Gokey said of the coming announcement. “So that’s our little secret. It’s gotta be done properly; they’re not going to start talking about it.”

Gokey, like the other Top 36 “Idol” contestants, signed contracts to be represented by 19 Entertainment, whose chief executive officer is Simon Fuller, creator and executive producer of “American Idol.”

19 Entertainment announced in June that both Allen and Lambert had signed with 19 Recordings. Lambert is recording a debut album that will be leased to RCA Records and released this fall. Allen also is recording his debut, which will be released on Jive Records.

Gokey said today both have taken time between tour stops to do some of their recording.

Allison Iraheta, who finished fourth this season, also announced in June she signed with 19 records and will release her disc on Jive.

Gokey, who finished third, reportedly had been in talks with 19 Records and Sony Nashville in June and July and had met with Word, a Christian label. Word President Mark Bright produced Idol winner Carrie Underwood.

Gokey is a Christian and worship leader at his church in Milwaukee.

Gokey did dispel one Internet report – that he has been recording an R&B album in anticipation of signing a record contract.

”No,” he said, laughing. “I was embarrassed – that was completely false.”
