Danny – Awesome Danny! Wow! I knew the guy was going to sound awesome, but man, it’s a whole different experience hearing him live! He started with PYT and really got the crowd going. They loved him and ate up everything he did. We were screaming our heads off for him! Then he sang some kind of Latin pop song called Maria Maria. Not a fan of this song, but I enjoyed his Latin flair..he did very well with it. Then he sang two Rascal Flatts songs, What Hurts The Most and My Wish. Absolutely awesome! I could totally see him doing something in the vein of modern country with a bluesy twist. I got absolute CHILLS during My Wish and they’re coming back now just by writing about it! His voice is just flat out awesome. I think I even may have underestimated him some during his run on the show.

Yay! Casey posted a pic!

Former American Idol contestant Casey Carlson has posted she’s at the (I’m assuming Minnesota?) state fair with Danny, Michael and Matt. She posted a picture of Michael and Matt but not Danny. Come on, Casey, help us out! LOL

Danny: Danny killed it on PYT. He was great. Everyone was up and dancing and the crowd seemed to love him. I still have a hard time getting past the stupid boots, but I tried not to focus on them. Danny has a good voice; I love the gravelly quality to it. But like many before me have said, I don’t think he knows what in the hell to do with it half the time. I actually thought “Maria Maria” was his weakest song. It felt like he was trying too hard. He sort of reminds me of a high school teacher who thinks he’s cooler than he is, who is always trying to act as “hip” as the kids he teaches. I think if Danny would stop over-thinking and worrying about how he comes off, he’d come off a lot better.

If you followed my blog during the season, you know my feelings on Danny Gokey. He was my favorite from the very beginning, and then I just completely turned on him. I didn’t like his song choices, I thought he was getting too cocky, I hated how Simon was shoving him down our throats.

But when he sat across from me and looked me in the eyes, it was hard not to like him. He says, “You know what I mean?” a lot and you actually do know what he means because he’s so good at drawing you into his world.

The publicist told me I only had time for two questions with him, so I tried to get right to the heart of it. And he tried to do the same…

Angela: Since I only have two questions, let’s get right to it. Lots of rumors about the record deal. What can you say?

Danny: I can’t say nothin’.That’s what I gotta say. Put it like this. There’s good stuff happening. There’s definitely good stuff happening.

A: So your fans can be relieved that they will hear more from you?

D: Yes, they will hear more. They can be relieved.

A: I follow you on Twitter, so I know you are so busy. You’ve got a lot going on.

D: A lot going on. Absolutely. The foundation, the record, eyewear, a lot of different things. It’s good things to have, it’s dreams. How do I—It’s like, I’m very happy with my life right now. You know what I mean? A lot of people know my story and it’s not that I want to harp on it, but I’m so proud of myself for what I’ve come through and I want to encourage people to come through the same thing. Know what I mean? Not to be kind of caught up in their situations, but to just kind of, you know, dream. I’m kind of trying to round up what I feel in this little brief moment here, but like—Are you coming to the show tonight?

A: Oh yes.

D: So, like, I want to entertain people. And not only do I want to entertain, I want my foundation to inspire. And that’s what I see in the future. You know what I mean? And so I’m excited for the opportunity. It’s very interesting. I’m a very lucky man.

It’s not about music.

The American Idol tour that stopped at Sprint Center Sunday is about many things- aspirational dreams, theatrical drama and hormonal hysteria among them — but its music component is merely an afterthought. The event is a celebration of celebrity and pop culture. It’s crass, but it’s also a lot of fun. An audience of approximately 10,000 took in the spectacle.

The appearance by Danny Gokey, who took bronze in the competition, was typical. He’s personally ingratiating but musically dull. A brief motivational speech was touching and helped explain the audience’s undeniably strong emotional bond with the singer.
