he has another day off..Give him time to rest his voice

Yay!! our sweet Danny gets to rest this morning!! I haven’t heard of any bad reviews from Tampa for Danny!!
Karen maybe his energy level was low from the sunburn and he felt like he didn’t do his best.

Woah, I’m not use to being the first one to comment on the Good Morning blog. I’m east coast time so I guess it is still a little early for most of the Gokey Girls. I’m actually glad there is a break from the concert today. Danny can rest his voice and I can get ready for my visit to the midwest on Saturday. Don’t expect too much happening today in Idol-land but you never know. Have a great day!!!

Okay, you must all think I’m nuts with my last post. Not sure why I thought I was the first comment – should have known better with this group lol. I also think it may have been the affects of Danny’s sunburn for his Tampa performance. The sun can really zap your energy. Guess he won’t do that again although in his interview he said he had the BEST time at the beach so I guess it was worth it to him. I hope someone else besides Howard Cohen writes a review for the show last night because he was a Danny hater from the get go.

Good Morning! You know I love those pictures that Helio posted last night! We obviously are on the same wavelength when it comes to Danny, because as you know the “Heart On” pic and the “Full Frontal Tunmmy and Chain” pic were on my gravatar for a while turning all the ladies on everytime I posted!
Hope Danny is doing well today and enjoys his day off in Atlants. Hotlanta is a fun city, but hopefully Danny will be taking care of his voice and sunburn.
Michelle I sent Deb a DM and have not heard back from her. You triggered a memory – I do remember that she did say something about being in FL while Danny was on tour there, so hopefully she is there enjoying the sun and not getting burned like Danny did!

Has anybody seen any videos or read any reviews from last night’s show? Last night was the first night I didn’t hear Danny’s performance. I was a little sad knowing that he was singing and I wasn’t hearing him – even if it is on Rickey’s lousy sounding cellcasts. I hope he will have a cellcast in Atlanta tomorrow, although Friday night is date night and I can’t blow my husband off on date night to stay home and listen to Danny! I’ll have to convince ron to make it a short date!

• Danny Gokey worked his widower angle once again with schmaltzy reads of Rascal Flatts tunes. The good news is he sang them well enough, moved with more agility than he displayed on TV and everyone knew his set was soon to give way to Adam’s.
Ok, that wasn’t sooo bad from a hater was it??? Sorry if I offended anyone by posting but just had to let u know it wasn’t that bad. He was meaner to Lil and Anoop. Of course Adam was the greatest, blah, blah.

PJGVet I think Howard Cohen’s review proves that when Danny is in Milwaukee and gets huge applause and screaming after his set, the haters like Cohen are going to say it was for Adam not Danny. Even though they know Milwaukee adores Danny they will say that the applause was for Adam. I think it was extremely unfair of Cohen to say the reason there was applause after Danny’s set was a because of Adam.

pjgvet, thanks for posting Hoyward’s review. It just proves that even the haters can’t say anything bad about Danny’s performance, they can’t deny his wonderful voice and ability to capture the audience… Howard downplays his review with Danny because he probably doesn’t want to admit to himself (and to the rest of his readers) that he had been wrong about Danny.

Trish I agree I think Danny is just fine. The Howard Cohen’s of the world just can’t accept that they were wrong the entire season and so they continue to bash Danny to try to justify all their early criticism. Whatever person is reviewing Danny, I always look back at their AI Season 8 reviews because 9 out of 10 times they will stick with whatever they wrote about a particular idol during the competition. Human nature dictates that once a person commits to a belief or an idea they rarely change their opinion, because they have difficulty accepting that they are wrong. That is why I won’t read some of that stuff. Danny could win 10 Grammy’s and Howard Cohen would say the Grammy voters were wrong!

Before I leave, just wanted to say that was pretty much an underhanded begrudging “compliment” Howard Cohen gave Danny on doing well last night. But where does he and a few other reviewers/critics get off on saying Danny works the widower issue?! They are not listening! Danny’s brief inspirational message is ONLY to have hope, keep faith, and realize your dreams!
Gah, it makes me so nervous to see tweets to Danny with my name in them! I almost feel bad for asking. I will love it though if I get some! Thank you again to all!

I’m doing better every day. I got up at 6:30 am & walked the dog, took Sara to cello, grocery shopped, got spare ribs in the slow cooker and sent all the kids to their rooms for fighting. Then layed down to rest… After about an hour on my feet my back hurts quite a bit. It’s only been 10 days. Got to be patient!

Stephanie, no. His FB account (both of them) just has him alone. The one that I get the most from is “Daniel J. Gokey”. It is him at the AI auditions with his mouth open and you can see his tongue. lol. Not my favorite.
Does anyone know if Danny has an “official” fansite? I wonder what he does with his backstage passes for every show? I know Michael and Megan were giving some away, but I haven’t heard of any from Danny.
Also, I checked out they are selling backstage passes on some of the broker sites for $3,000 + each, you have to buy 2. – Ouch!!!

She mentioned possibly going to the show with her sister in FL, but then I thought she decided to go to the show in Minneapolis.
Maybe Danny contacted her to write a song for his album and she can’t say anything?
I would be surprised if she went to the show in FL and didn’t let any of know she was going. She would have wanted to try and meet Danny while she was down there.
Sarah’s Tampa Review (She’s an Adam fan):
As for the applause-o-meter – from what I could hear, I’d say top honors go to Adam, with Danny and Kris tying for 2nd. They got a lot of cheers, and they were loud, but I’d say the difference is that there were points in both of their sets where the audience just sat down and was quiet, and then cheered at the end of the song. For Adam, it was much more frenzied – from start to finish, people were up on their feet, cheering, swaying, dancing, jumping (*blush* – sorry little girl next to me that I accidentally elbowed a couple times.), in general just NOT being calm or collected or quiet. As I think I described it last night – it was pretty much pandemonium. Allison, Matt, and Anoop got a lot of cheers too, but it was another level down from Kris and Danny. But everyone was loved on by the crowd for sure, and we were a pretty vocal and active crowd all night.

It surprised me to read that Danny felt that the Tampa show was his worst show, vocally, because I thought he sounded better live than he ever sounded on the show. There was some strain, but overall, his voice sounded good. For me, “P.Y.T.” is his strongest number… everyone was up and dancing and singing along. Like Matt, that kind of waned by the end of his set, mostly because he closes with the two ballads. But people still seemed to love him and cheered louder for him than any of the previous performers, so he’s doing something right, I guess. Just not my cup o’ tea. And I did not catch any hip thrusting. Thank God. Comment from my friend at the end of his set: “So, really, I’m cheering because this is over and ADAM is next!”

Michelle, I haven’t heard of an ‘official fansite’ yet. I know there is no way I’ll be going backstage for $3000 a pop. I can’t believe many people could afford that, especially now. That is more than most established artists charge. That seems really high!

Glad you guys weren’t upset about me posting the Cohen review; just wanted to show that even a bad hater can’t say he sucked!!! And I agree, Shirl, it was actually a compliment, considering the source. I did have to laugh, that instead of acknowledging the standing O I heard Danny got, he said it was because they were excited about Adam coming! Ha! Even at MJ’s someone said they said the standing O was for Danny.
Milwaukee people we will have to scream loud and long at the BEGINNING of Danny’s set!

Beth’s Tampa review (another Adam fan) I swear I will try and find some Danny fans reviews but they just don’t seem to post them where I can find them.
Danny- He had a lot of fans there. His twitter says he felt his voice wasn’t up to par. I always have found it raspy, so I didn’t notice anything. What about those Dancing with the Stars rumors? He sure was throwing in some moves. I thought he did a good job.
kay17 – there wasn’t even ANY backstage passes for sale in Milwaukee. I am sure with all of the family and friends in Milwaukee, those will be hard to come by.

Steph Is it true that if someone wants to go to the buses after the show to meet the idols, they have to leave the show early, like during Kris’s performance?
well it all depends on where you are and where they go. For me, it would have been good for me to have left early. depending on how badly you want to watch the last few numbers, you may want to leave early. I don’t know why they had them go out front for the meet n greet in Tampa, but if you want a good spot it may be a good idea.

MJ had a Q&A session with Brian Mansfield, USA Today and Richard Rushfield. I only read it today and there were some interesting tidbits about Danny’s possible record deal from Mr. Mansfield.

Cheryl well like I said, depending on where you are,if you hurry after the show then you may have a chance. most of the people who left early in Tampa were Adam fans, they left right after his set (and he never showed! lol!) but I would still try, you never know.

Hey, Michelle, Ivan did return my email right away and said it should be another 3 weeks or so until the two SHF sites are merged and he hoped and prayed that all of the glitches concerning donations, credit cards, etc. will be worked out. It was such a nice email and he was happy that I remembered he had played bass guitar on Danny Day at Summerfest. He has a really great website and you can listen to his music. SMOKIN!!!
Stephanie, you asked about Danny’s Facebook account. His real account is Daniel J. Gokey. It is the one with the pic of him and Sophia. The other account is from a fan. Amy verified this for me months ago because I wanted to be sure I’d be on the right account to ask Danny to friend me. I had to wait about a month but he finally added me as a friend.
Sorry, in case anyone didn’t know the person I was referencing in my earlier post, Ivan Santiago is Danny’s bro-in-law. He is also the VP of SHF.

Review from the cave from a Sunrise concert attender:
Hey all! Just wanted to share my Danny experience with anyone who may be interested. The show was great! Pretty much everyone was fantastic.
The crowd faves, judging by my less than perfect applause meter, were Anoop, Matt, Allison, Danny, Kris (not necessarily in that order) but the clear winner was Adam. People would scream when anything Adam would flash on the screens (his eyes, nailpolish, spikes, whatever) even before the show started. When he came out to perform, the entire arena was on their feet. He was also great. Though I do think that what helped was the level of special effects that he got. Starlight by Muse and Mad World were almost psychedelic. Plus its hard to keep a crowd sitting during the wailing guitar riffs of Whole Lotta Love.
I’m not going to review all the idols because I think by now we all know what they are singing etc. so it would just be my opinion of their performance. I will confess that I didn’t see much of Kris’ =( cause I was busy planning my escape route to see Danny!
Anyway, now for D A N N Y!!
He was WONDERFUL ! He had on a red button up shirt, jeans, that chain on his jeans that he wears and combat boots!! YUM! The started screaming when he came out and he went right into PYT. Then Maria Maria and his dancing!!! I loved it he was sooooo good!!!! They showed his feet in the boots on the screens and he was hot hot hot! And the way he was dancing with the mikestand sooo cool and suave. Awkward and clumsy??? NOT AT ALL!! He was more like a gazelle! More screaming! Then WHTM – great of course. Then what’s been termed “preaching” by um…others. I thought it was fantastic, eloquent, not at all preachy just positive. It showed a very compassionate person and it was well received and he responded by saying that he gets that reaction (a good one) because everyone in their life has something they are dealing with and to not let anything crush your dreams. Then he dedicated My Wish to the audience. Of course I was all choked up!
His voice was suffering (it definitely was bothering him the whole set) and toward the middle of the song he was really straining. He couldn’t get some the notes at the end and was pointing toward his throat. Still amazing! How much do I love that man!
Blah blah blah- My exit!
I left during Don’t Stop Believing (at the suggestion of one of the Gang– sorry don’t remember who but thank you=D) and went outside to wait with the rest of the gathering crowd for them to come out. I was at the front of fenced off area (which is good because at 4’11’’ any further back and I would have a bird’s eye view of ppl’s spinal column.
It had to be nearly and hour and half or more and let me just say that the humidity was like 100%!!! People were sticking to me! Everything was sticking to me! I had to peel out of my jeans like a banana when I got home! Really it was kinda gross! But all for Danny!!
Before anyone came out a spontaneous chant of Danny! Danny! started. Adam fans, not to be outdone by Danny fans, countered with an even louder chanting of Adam Adam! That happened a few times.
Scott came out, then Kris (he is so petite! And I can say that at my height!), then Matt. Danny was last – no one else came out.
When Danny came out, I believe he received the biggest reaction. More than Kris. He started out all the way on the other side from where I was. The girls next to me were also Danny fans so at the count of 3 we all screamed WE LOVE YOU DANNY really loudly. He was signing autographs and turned to look at us. I was dying! All I could manage to do was wave frantically! Making his way over closer closer. OMG he’s right next to me I had to attempt saying something. So he is signing my Danny picture and I said “I LOVE YOU DANNY! CAN I HAVE A HUG OR I WONT BE ABLE TO SLEEP TONIGHT!” He looked at me dead in the eyes and I locked eyes with him for a few seconds (how I had the strength to hold myself up IDK!! I was shaking like a leaf) LOCKED EYES!!! Even my sister said after “he looked right in your eyes!!” ahhhhhhhhhh!!! Then he (said “awww” I think) opened his arms to give me a hug. I grabbed him and latched on (HEHE) and nuzzled my face by his neck under his chin!!!! It was the BEST HUG EVER!!!! Then he had to continue on his way =(((
I wish I had more time. He was really being rushed it was after midnight.

The review is great but I am a little worried about Danny’s voice. I’m sure he is getting the required care for it but I still worry. Danny always gives 110% for his fans. He hasn’t tweeted today has he? He ususally tweets every day and especially on his day off.

Even though I didn’t like Danny that much on the show, I really, really enjoyed him. I loved “P.Y.T.,” probably because I’ve been listening to Michael Jackson non-stop- I would have to say that was my favorite song after all of Adam’s. Now I know what the judges were talking about when they simply told Danny “This is a singing competition and you can sing.” I really liked his speech too- if Adam had gone through something hard and said a speech like that, people would be eating it up, so I don’t know why some people call it preachy.”

Please consider making August 28th American Idol Day, much the way the city celebrated Danny Gokey Day. I think it would be a wonderful way for the City of Milwaukee to not only honor Danny again, but to open their hearts to all of the Idols and show them what a wonderful city Milwaukee is and how wonderful the people of Milwaukee are. Danny Gokey has a big heart and I think he would be thrilled and proud if his hometown showed his fellow idols how big the city’s heart is!

I will email Mayor Barrett’s office tomorrow. I just checked the tour schedule and the idols will be coming from Detroit 8/26 and will have a day off in Milwaukee before the 8/28 show. We could see some sightings and touring around on their day off. Wouldn’t it be funny to run into one of them walking around the city!!
