Dee’s AI Tour Recap Tampa FL
- Cast my first vote ever. (I’ve watched 4 of 8)
- Bribed my kid to help vote, mostly with food
- Sent a fan-mail or rather a sweet birthday card
- I follow twitter
- Read blogs – not sure this was a good thing
- Discovered Fanwars – too much said about people you don’t even know then add the personal projections placed on these singers – unreal
- To like a song I don’t care for, “Stand by me” change it up, one of my favorites
- Cried when voted off – it’s not like it happened to me yet felt like it
- Awaken the fangirl – never before taken interest in a performer
- Buying a future CD and I haven’t even heard it
Tulsa Today: American Idol review and rare photos
Gokey did amazing renditions of “PYT,” and “What Hurts the Most,” and as well as songs such as “My Wish.”

MJ: Rena’s American Idol Tour 2009 Tulsa Re-cap
Danny is much better live than on TV. He got quite the applause. The song I was looking forward to was “Maria Maria” which is one of my favorite songs. And he met my expectations on that song. He was really into the music and having so much fun. Danny’s vocals were perfect for the Latin-pop sound and his salsa dancing was quite good. Why didn’t he do this song on the show during one of the more open-ended theme weeks is beyond me. I think he really would have honored his wife if he had sung something Latin influenced. I also see why he’s a motivational speaker because everyone got a taste of it. He spoke about not letting tragedy define who you are and put you down from achieving your dreams. His final two songs put me to sleep. “Maria” was the highlight for Danny Gokey.

MJ: Michael’s American Idol Tour 2009 Tampa Re-cap
Danny comes in to the “PYT” intro, and rocks it out with his powerhouse vocals on full display. “Maria Maria” was good, even with the clumsy dancing. “What Hurt the Most” was one of his best during the season, and he doesn’t disappoint with that as his third offering. He gives a brief inspirational talk before taking on “My Wish.”
While he gives terrific performances on each, I can’t help feeling that it’s really redundant to have 2 slow Rascal Flatts songs in a 4-song set! I think most would like to hear him leave the stage with more oomph, and if it couldn’t be a more rocky number, I’ve always wondered how he’d do on Christina Aguilera’s “Hurt.” (Before you call me crazy, give that song a listen and tell me Danny wouldn’t tear it to shreds. Just sayin…)
Grade: A-…unbelievable voice, set list needs some tweaking

SUNRISE, FL (WFLX) – The finalists from Season 8 of American Idol gathered in at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise Wednesday night. Before they went on stage, however, we put Matt Giraud, Kris Allen and Danny Gokey in the spotlight.
Kris Allen took us by surprise the night America crowned him as our Idol.
Rachel asked, “What was the percentage that you thought you were going to win?”
Kris Allen replied, “I really thought it was going to be 50-50.”
It was a big night for Allen as he performed with the group Queen, whose lead guitarist gave Allen some interesting advice. “And I asked Brian May for his autograph. And he wrote, ‘Kris,’ and he signed his name, and he wrote, ‘kill’. And that was it, just kill, and I was like, ‘Ok, I will kill for Brian May.’”
Refreshing after taking brutal remarks from Simon Cowell night after night who, Matt Giraud says, isn’t so horrible. “He’d give us like pep talks. He’d come back and say, ‘Just in case, we say something we don’t like, you can argue with us. It’s fine.”
Matt made Idol history when the judges saved him from elimination. “It was a cool moment to be a part of. Everyone in the room was so loud saying, ‘Save him!’ — even the security guards. I didn’t know people felt like that, and it was an honor.”
It was also a season filled with inspiration, especially after Danny Gokey’s story. Gokey lost his wife to a heart condition a month before trying out.
Rachel asked, “Do you think being on American Idol was therapeutic?”
Danny Gokey said, “Absolutely, being on American Idol, it wasn’t the easiest time. It was better than the alternative, and I feel like it really brought healing to me.”
Proving American Idol isn’t just about the music.

MJ Q&A session with Brian Mansfield, USA Today and Richard Rushfield
MJ had a Q&A session with Brian Mansfield, USA Today and Richard Rushfield. I only read it today and there were some interesting tidbits about Danny’s possible record deal from Mr. Mansfield. Thanks, Lizzy!
[Comment From beth5343]
Of the Season 8 contestants that aren’t signed yet, who do you think has the best shot at a successful career
12:30 RichardRushfield: Brian you are the industry expert-
12:31 Brian Mansfield: Well, Danny, obviously, but only if he can figure out what he wants to do and it happens to be the same thing that his audience wants to hear from him. That’s far from a given.
12:31 [Comment From Stacy]
What do you want to see more of on Idol: Contestants like Danny, (with a natural ability but no formal training/ experience) Kris, (who may not be as powerful of singers but are talented musicians/ artists) or Adam, (Someone who’s been doing this for a long time, to the point of “Why hasn’t anyone signed theis guy already?)
How late is too late for a Danny Gokey record deal? We’ve been hearing about the possibilities for two months now, do you think it will happen?
1:26 Brian Mansfield: I don’t think there’s a danger to the market. Maybe a danger to the Idols. I wouldn’t be surprised if it went off the air at the end of the new round of contracts. It might be awfully hard to keep giving people raises. You know it’s not going to get bigger ratings than it has now. But I hope it’s around longer.
1:27 RichardRushfield: There is always a deal out there to be had- its just a question of what kinda of deal and how big
1:27 Brian Mansfield: He’s talking to the people in town he needs to talk to. If they don’t announce before Aug. 19 (is that right?), it won’t be a big deal. But once it’s done, he needs to get his butt moving.
1:28 Brian Mansfield: But he’ll probably be coming to Nashville, and they know how to get stuff done quickly here.
1:28 [Comment From mmb]
why do you think 19 did not sign Danny…after all the praise and hype by the judges, it is surprising
1:28 RichardRushfield: I’ll leave that to brian but i think danny is obvious than allison what the niche is
1:28 Brian Mansfield: It might actually be pretty complicated, and I don’t know that they’re done with him. I could see some kind of partnership with a company that has better ties to the market where his audience is.

DANNY GOKEY: (Who, given some bloggers’ perception that he was arrogant, was fairly down to earth and humble. You never know. I don’t even know, as I spent a pleasant five minutes in his presence. But he seemed pretty nice to me, and I was one of those who was sick of him being pimped. Talented kid, though.)
Q: Have you had any time to explore the cities you’ve been in?
A: Not really. We come and go, although we did have a day off in Tampa. We had a whole day at the beach, and that was the best kind of site-seeing.
Q: What are you enjoying about the tour?
A: One of the best parts is singing, and also the audiences. It’s a 50/50 thing. Singing’s not interesting if there’s no one there to hear you. It’s been really cool. But that beach day was the best day of my whole year, which has been inflitrated with “American Idol” since January. It’s hard to find that place (to decompress), but this is the making of us.
Q: Can you ever prepare for this sort of exposure?
A: It’s been surprisingly hard. I don’t think I thought it would be this stressful. But the tour is much lighter than the show was.
Q: Do you read what’s written about you on the Internet?
A: I try to stay away from that. I feel like I’m getting better at keeping all that in the right perspective, about what to focus on and what not to focus on, on what is temporary.
Q: You obviously shared some personal things about yourself on the show (Danny’s wife died not long before his audition), things that some writers and bloggers felt free to expound on, because they were out there and they could interpret them any way they wanted. Did that…
A: Did that bother me? It bothered me big time. People who tend to be like that don’t go anywhere in life, because they’re not happy and they want to get someone else, to make someone else unhappy. I can’t focus on that.
Q: One last question: Your duet of “All Night Long” with Lionel Richie on the finale was so much fun, and I could see that smile on your face when the music came on and people freaked out.
A: That was the biggest moment of my Idol experience. I was just ear-to-ear. Lionel Richie became like a mentor for me behind the scenes. It was just amazing.
