Will Danny Gokey go from American Idol to Dancing with the Stars?
That has been the talk ever since the third-place finisher was asked about using the ABC reality competition to improve upon his footwork, which was at times dissed by Simon Cowell.
“This thing has blown up,” Gokey says of the Dancing rumblings. That said, “I would do it,” he shares in his TVGuide.com video Q&A, “and I would be happy to do it.”
In this on-camera sit-down, the 28-year-old from Milwaukee also talks about:
* The song he would have liked to sing on Idol
* Why he duet with Kris came off as awkward. “Kris was like, ‘What is the point of this whole thing?’” Gokey shares. “We just weren’t feeling it.”
* His ideal timetable for his first album.
In closing, Gokey opens up about how the Idol experience allowed in some light on a life that had been darkened by the too-soon loss of his wife Sophia.
“I found hope in music,” he says, “and now I want to bring hope to other people

From what I understand, Danny never brought up the idea of DWTS, someone asked him if he would ever do it and we know what he said, but it’s not like he got off of Idol and said, “Now which reality show can I get on,” which is how other media/blogposts are projecting it. Just shows how much scrutinization anyone on tv gets.
He can’t sing anywhere without Idol’s permission until he’s done with the Idol tour cuz he’s under a general contract with them (not a recording contract).
But a cd anytime soon would be great! I do love my Gokey!

Maybe he should not tell his fans when he does something like miss a radio interview because then all the haters come out in full force! I noticed his heart picture is down wonder why? on his twitter page? does anyone else notice that? Wonder why? and annoop has been twittering some things like ha ha you lost your luggage and now you feel so what? interesting? dont know what that means in reference to him being stupid but I just have this feeling that alot of the idols make fun of him all the time and sometimes not in a very nice way he needs to start dishing it back sometimes too. I think they are friends but I just hope he is treated nice on the tour because it seems like they are forming some clicks just like high school remember????I would rather not. No-one enjoys feeling left out..
I just listened to Still by Brian McKnight, which is the song Danny said he wished he’d sung. I was crying thru the whole song. I’m at work and people stopped to ask me what’s wrong and asked if I’m okay. I’m really embarrassed that I cried at work, but that song made me feel so sad for Danny and the loss of his wife. It bothers me so much that Danny is still grieving and people are being so cruel to him. I better stop now because I’m getting teary eyed again.
Which radio interviews did he miss? Local or national? I think he is trying to update his twitter page and having some technical difficulties, that’s why the heart picture is down.
Did anyone else like the duet with Kris Allen? I actually liked – not from a performance standpoint, but vocally, I thought they sounded good together.
I am going to need someone to cheer me up. I am in a funk about our Danny and what he is going thru. I know that Danny’s wife died in July and started having her surgeriess at the end of June. I lost my brother and my mother, and when it gets close to the date of their illness and deaths I get very emotional and filled with anxiety. It was especially true on the first anniversary of their deaths. I hope Danny will be okay emotionally and that his family and faith help keep him strong. Also, Danny’s wedding anniversary fell on the week he was eliminated and it was the first anniversary without Sophia so I wonder how hard that was for him? All this stuff is coming at him at once and to top it all off, all the haters are still in full force. They make me so angry. Oh, oh, I’m starting to cry again. I definately need some positive news about Danny.

Cheryl, I went to youtube and listened to Brian McKnight “STILL”. Everybody ought to go listen to that. I did go on Danny’s forum page (they have a picture thread) on the American Idol site and looked at some pictures of Danny that I had not seen before. Deb, Danny is having problems with his Twitter page and is majorly frustrated. He’s been trying to change his picture and the site “accepts/confirms” the change, yet there’s no picture. He is not a happy camper! When I saw no picture I was so afraid he’d cancelled his membership! If only I was right there beside him, I might be able to help him get his picture up because I had trouble with that too, one time. Although it might be a bit difficult to actually work on his computer if I was sitting right beside him…..I’d probably be ON him instead of beside him….

I have all of the live performances and all of the studio versions of the songs (including Renegade and the Lionel Richie Medley – even the group numbers!!!!). You can re-live the performances each week if you are going through Danny withdrawal right now. Did anyone else notice that he seems to have lost weight, from the “Jesus Take the Wheel” performance to this week of interviews, he looks skinnier to me!!! The videos on this website are nice, but we need to support him by buying his songs on itunes (for now). Does anyone know if Danny has ever visited this site? Jo, he’ll probably stay as thin as he is until after the tour, with all the dance routines they have to do. But as soon as the tour ends and he can relax a bit, he’ll gain some of that weight back, to be sure. He’ll look as good as ever!

Did anyone see him in Milwaukee on Danny Gokey Day? I was at the Harley Davidson Museum where he made a 10 minute stop before going to Summerfest. Got about 5 feet from him. A bunch of young girls got in front of me, so I didn’t get to touch him. But it was still awesome seeing him in person. He is only about 5’8, if that (even thought his bio says he’s 5″10). He is smaller than I thought he would be. He’s somewhat broad across the shoulders. His skin is perfectly smooth and I think he gets very little sun because he has a very light complexion. His hair is not as dark as it looks on tv. He is adorable, just as I expected. I saw his Summerfest concert and it was awesome. He sang about 7 songs and everybody was really into it, making a lot of noise. I also went to the Brewers game. His national anthem sounded better in person than when I watched it back on the internet. Same with the songs at Summerfest – they sounded much better live. I can’t wait to see him on the Idol tour. I live in Chicago so I got tickets for his show at the Allstate arena. It’s not until Sep 2, which is a bummer because I have to go a whole summer without seeing him perform something new. Oh, well I guess I’ll keep playing his performances over and over until then!
Uh! I can’t wait that long till I can see Danny chubby again! then again I he is still hot and his dancing is just the most adorable thing ever

Cheryl, how lucky you were to see him in person! No way could I have gotten there since I live in PA. I watched the whole thing on live stream from Fox 6 in Milw. I sure wish he’d be near our area for the tour though. I don’t know why the tour isn’t coming to the Giant arena in Harrisburg
I just hope he does some touring of his own around the time of his album release, and does some really kick-ass concerts!

Hey Cheryl! I got to see Danny too – the night he was eliminated! And yes he has very broad shoulders, and I actually think he’s about 5’10 even though he looks shorter… cuz he is taller than Ryan Seacrest, and Ryan is about 5’9.. I’ve seen him in person too… I like that Danny isn’t super tall… I think it would take away from him stockyness and adorableness… He looks GREAT in person too… I am sooo happy that the LA concert is on July 16, so I only have 1 1/2 months until I see him again! YEA!
If Danny is 5’10″ and I’m 5’4″, he’s just the right height to cuddle up to while slow-dancing…..Oops, here comes another fantasy!!!!!

It’s interesting that you say he is stocky – that is exactly the word my husband used to describe him when we saw him. I guess that is a good description of his build. My husband is 5’8″ and he said Danny looked shorter than him, but I thought he was about the same height. I guess I was basing my estimation on how Danny compared to my husband, who I think is a shorty (even though I always tell him he looks tall!)

The word “stocky” always reminds me of someone who might be short and dumpy. I’ve always thought of Danny as being “husky” (although I’ve never had the opportunity to see him in person).
HA HA For me, husky means like on the chunky side… like a husky boy… but stocky to me is like well-built, broad shoulders, more of the muscular side of husky…
And yes!!! CHERYL – he seriously has flawless skin – you can tell he’s a man who really takes care of himself… even down to how well-groomed his beard is! ha ha I just really like to see men like that…

QUESTION ABOUT THE TOUR: Is there always a meet and greet after the shows so that everybody gets to meet their favorite idol? How does that work? With a huge arena full of fans, how do they all get backstage after the shows?
I would have bought tickets but this year the tour isn’t coming to my area so I won’t be going. I’m just curious as to how it would work for fans to get to meet their Idols.
Shirl, if you go early, they usually have a section roped off outside the arena and the idols will come out as they have time. They also have a backstage VIP even afterwards but you have to have tickets for that. Usually the radio station is giving them away or they idols have a set number to give out as they want in each city.
Shirl, you would be slow dancing at his waist if you’re 5’4, now I think that would be something to get excited about!! Now, here I go with my mind in the gutter!! Just thinking about slow-dancing with Danny, oh never mind. I don’t even want to go there!!!

Check it out. I’m 5’4″ and my husband is 5’8″. It’s a perfect match for slow-dancing and cuddling. If Danny is the same height or even an inch or two taller, no way would I be at his WAIST! It’s only a difference of about 3 or 4 inches. You do the math
Amy: Thanks so much for explaining to me how that works. Always was curious about it with so many fans in those large arenas, wanting a chance to meet their idols.
I remember a few years ago, some friends who were fans of Ace Young went to see the Idols on tour but it was a madhouse outside in the roped off sections, they were running out of time, and and never did get anywhere close to Ace. Needless to say they were devastated.
I guess a lot of the time it’s just a matter of good luck!
Last year I was lucky enough to get many autographs and pictures outside the arena and had gotten backstage passes through some connections. It was fantastic!

Yeah, I haven’t gotten backstage before, but they idols do come outside before the show and after – depending on time too… usually the Top 2 are the least likely to show up for a long period of time cuz they have much more press – especially when they come to LA – which is where I’m going. So I didnt get to see Archie until the end of the show last year, but depending on when they get out of their VIP stuff inside, limits their time outside after the show, so I would suggest going early if possible…
Okay, so I’m totally bad – I went to a perfume/cologne shop at the mall during my lunch break so I could smell Danny’s cologne “Dolche & Cabana Light Blue”… I got to tell you, I LOVE IT! It’s different than other colognes I normally smell, but it’s nice, and I can imagine Danny wearing it. Now I have the cologne card in my purse, so when I open my purse, I smell it. ha ha
I will be seeing Danny in Milwaukee on Aug 28th, my guess is there will be many fans fighting for those autographs here locally!!!
JennJenn, Do the top two get to sing more songs that the rest of the idols? Do they sing a group song like they did on the show. I’m so excited, I’m going to the the show in Deluth, Ga at the end of July!! Oh, I hope that I get to see alot of Danny.

Something hilarious just happened to me. A guy/friend I sit close to at work came over by me and asked if I knew that an IPod holds 1000′s of songs. I said “yeah, I know” so he asks me “then why do you keep playing the same songs over and over every day?” So, I said “because my Okey Gokey Playlist only holds 13 songs” He just rolled his eyes and said “yeah, well I get on the train every night and I keep hearing ‘what hurts the most’ over and over in my head’, so why don’t you knock it off?” and then I just smiled at him and told him “go sit down and mind your own business”
Wow, I didn’t think anybody noticed that I was playing Danny from 8:30 to 5:30. Guess I was wrong. Hey, maybe I’ll turn some of them on to Danny’s music and they’ll start downloading his songs!
HA HA HA CHERYL – I think you’ll like the cologne – it’s just a really nice pleasant smell with a little ooompf in it, ya know? ha ha You’ll find out when you buy it!
KAREN – yeah, usually the winner sings like 5 songs, the 2nd place sings 4, and the rest get 3. That’s how it’s been in the past. A lot of the concerts they did a lot of group numbers, but the past couple years they’ve had their own little “mini concert”. So they sing their songs individually, then after the bottom 5 (like the contestant who came in 10th up to Contestant 5) will do a group number together, then continue on up the scale until they get to like #3, which is Danny, they may do another group thing… then #2 sings, then #1 and then they do a final group song. That’s how it’s been the past couple years… which is nice in a way because you get to see your favorite in one block of time, but you also have to sit through all the others that you may not necessarily like… so its a toss up.
I remember when I went to the concert for Clay and Ruben, Clay pretty much MC’d the entire concert and introduced everyone, and they did a TON of group numbers.. and they changed things up the past couple years, so I’m excited to see what they do this year. I just want to see Danny!
Cheryl – that is hilarious!! Maybe they’ll get hooked on the music – great idea! ha ha I’m in a bit more strict work environment, so I can’t play my music unless I’m wearing headphones, but that’s okay. What’s fun though is that a lot of people I work with LOVE Danny! And I work with an older crowd too, so it’s cool that a wide age range loves him!
I think Adam has a lot of talent, but I am worried that because they pimped him so much during the competition that they will feature him on the tour more than the others and it will become the Adam/Kris show. I sure hope Danny gets a lot of time. I really hope he gets a duet with Allison and/or with Lil Rounds.
jennjenn – In my office it seems like a lot of the women of all ages like Danny and the guys don’t. As a matter of fact, I can’t think of one guy in my office who admits to liking him. But, the women make up for it because most of us adore him. There were a few people who liked Kris from the beginning and most of us who supported Danny voted for Kris once Danny was eliminated. Almost everybody in the office disliked the fact that the judges were so biased in favor of Adam that nobody voted for him in the finale.
I think that Adam and Allison would have there duets together being that there the 2 rockers this season I think Danny would end up with Matt which would be great cause Matt could play the piano and Danny could sing
Cheryl hope that Adam didn’t lose votes cause the judges liked him its not his fault I hope people voted for Kris because his music is more like Danny’s then Adams
Jo on Tue: I definately didn’t blame Adam for what the judges did. But, I did vote for Kris after Danny went because Kris’s music was more to my liking. I do think Adam has a lot of talent, but I am not really into glamrock. I like R&B and Pop. However, there really were quite a few people I know who did vote against Adam because of the judges. Which, I agree is not fair to Adam. I do think the judges should be more aware of how much they can hurt the frontrunners when they keep pimping them. I think that may be what happened to Danny early on. The judges favored him and I think voters were turned off by that. Hoepfully, next season the judges will be fair to everyone.
I think I’d like to hear Lil and Danny together. They could really get down on a bluesy number ?? Cheryl, that is so funny ,maybe you’ll convert all of them… Danny is the only one I have on my ipod, with the exception of Micheal Buble “LOST”. I’m going to start putting Brian mcknight “STill” and some of his other songs as well. Danny’s has gotten me to liking BM!!
Thanks Cheryl for voting based on the type of music you like and not voting against a contestant I think that if people do that then there as bad as the Danny haters I really liked Adam and realized that the judges ended up hurting him like when Danny sang hero I (shamefully) wasn’t a big Danny fan and when they went nuts over it I got a little turned of but when he sang P.Y.T that changed it around

I agree – I think the major hype about Danny and Adam were big turnoffs to a lot of people… I liked Danny ever since his audition and during Hollywood week, and that was before all the hype… And I was really touched by his story, and I could see the hype starting to build up, especially after getting into the Top 13…
And I can see a lot of hype towards Adam too. I remember I liked it when he sang “Satisfaction” to make the Top 13, but it was downhill for me from there. I’m just not interested in that kind of music, however, I do think he is very very talented. I’m actually glad now that Danny didnt make it to 2nd or even 1st, because he now has enough popularity to be recognized, and to spread the word about his foundation, but still hold on to a bit of sanity – which is great for him. So I’m very happy for him!

Danny was my favorite from the first time I heard “Heard it through the Grapevine”. I tried not to like Adam but when Danny was voted off, I voted for Adam. Jo, why didn’t you like Danny at the beginning? PYT would have turned anybody around! That was fantastic!! I think all the judges liked Danny and the haters couldn’t understand because according to them, he was shouting, off key and so on.. And that was a turn off. Matt had said one time that Adam and Danny could do no wrong!!
Jo – yeah it’s really sad when I see fans bashing on other contestants.. I mean, you can’t deny that Adam is an extraordinary singer! And if people dont like a style, they dont like it, but I agree that it’s really awful when I see someone put other people down… I definitely wish him well in his career, cuz I know he’ll be huge for sure… Him and Danny are on completely different paths when it comes to their careers, so I’m happy for both of them!
Yeah, I’ll admit I voted for Kris when Danny was booted cuz I like his style more, but I mean, it could’ve gone either way for sure. You just never know on this show anymore…
And it’s funny, cuz some people I talked to started disliking Danny after “Scream… I mean Dream On” (ha ha ha) And I was like.. you can’t hate someone just cuz they hit a bum note… plus, Danny laughed at himself, which was great! Although, I’m the type of person that if I have a favorite, they’re my favorite until the end…
Does anyone ever wonder what the results would have been if it had been a Danny/Kris finale or an Adam/Danny finale. I think Kris would have won against Danny like he did against Adam. Kris was really gaining momentum and Danny, like Adam, had so much backlash caused by the judges. Not so sure what would have happened if it were an Adam/Danny finale. I think maybe Adam would have won, for too many reasons to get into. I think all three of them are talented enough that anyone of them would have deserved the win.

jennjenn: Since you are an expert on the Idol tours – Do the Idols sing only songs they sang on the show, or can they sing songs they did not sing on the show. For instance, would it be possible for Danny to sing a Brian McKnight song? or “Heard It Through The Grapvine” or Kiss From a Rose”?
I liked Danny when I first saw him but I didn’t like the fact that he got a ton of screen time in Hollywood(I know it wasn’t his fault) when we didn’t see any of Allison iraheta or Kris and I didn’t like the fact that he gave the producers footage of him proposing to Sophia and I didn’t like the fact that the judges were going over the top with praises which is one of the reason I liked Adam love him or hate him you have to admit he was a great singer from the beginning (on vocals alone the best ever on AI) but the fact that he needed to improve in areas and the judges gave him criticism and that he took it to heart won me over but I loved how Danny could get connected to every song he sang and get connected with the crowd (on getting connected emotionally Danny was the best with that ever on AI)
Cheryl, I truely believe the only reason Chris beat Adam was because of Danny’s votes. And I think Danny could have taken Adam.If only Danny hadn’t sang “Dream On”. Anyway, if Danny had beaten Adam, the haters would have gone bananas!! So maybe, it’s good the way things turned out!! And you’re absolutely right Danny was getting hotter and hotter. cheryl – I’m not jennjenn, but I hope I can answer your question about the tour (I saw seasons 4, 5 (twice) and 7). The Idols usually do a couple of songs from the show and something new. The Top 2 usually get more stage time than the others but each year was done differently. Last year’s tour didn’t feature any duets, trios, etc except the group number at the end. Season 5 featured the girls doing a number together, the guys doing a number together besides the solo acts. However, you will see new numbers from most of the contestants.

I don’t think Danny would of taken Adam after Simon said “Danny you were better then Kris” Kris fans probably turned on Danny! the fact that if it was a Danny/Adam finale Adam would probably get all of Allison’s votes(her fans blame Danny for her elimination) and Kris votes so I don’t think Danny would have a chance

I never did understand why people blamed Danny for Allison’s elimination. That week on dialidol it showed Danny ahead of Kris and it showed Allison ahead of Kris. So, I think it is more likely that the bottom two were Allison and Kris and not Allison and Danny. People should remember that Ryan specifically said the order was random and the following week said Danny was the only contestant never in the bottom three. I do think that after Allison was eliminated most of her votes already went to Adam. So, if it had been an Adam/Danny finally, Adam would not have picked up any more Allison votes-they were already with him. It would have come down to Kris’s fans. And, I do think that Kris’s fans would have been angry at Danny for outlasting Kris (just like for some strange reason Allison’s fans were mad at Danny for her elimination) and they would have voted for Adam, which means Adam would have won against Danny.
I think Allison’s fans were mad because and I know you will all hate me for this- Danny’s “dream on” performance was the weakest of the night and the fact that the Judges didn’t call him on it and gave him a ridiculous “A” for effort and they kept giving her and Kris crap for no reason made them angry at least when they don’t like Adam they tell him off ex(country week) but the fact that they let that go probably made them mad I think also that after Simon called Danny’s performance a vocal masterclass on top 3 night the less die hard fans weren’t worried enough to vote that extra 5 times but thats just my opinion
(The fact that Adam,Kris and a=Allison all seem so close probably hurt Danny too)

I think the AI producers did that on purpose by putting Allison and Danny together. Another shot at Danny!! Because he has never has been in the bottom three.. And Ryan did say the order was random.. Danny got alot of flack about that. And it certainly wasn’t Danny’s fault that she got eliminated..

jo on Tue: I have to agree with karen h and Simon that “You are so Beautiful” was a masterclass. Have you ever heard the previous recordings of that song? Nobody comes close to the arrangement and vocals that Danny brought to that song – not Joe Cocker, not Billy Preston, not Lionel Richie – Nobody! I’ve listened to at least 10 versions and they all pale in comparison. Danny reaarranged and put in entirely new lyrics into that song. How could you even say it was like a bad wedding singer. I’ve been to 100′s of weddings and never heard vocals like that. You’re sounding kind of like the Danny haters who say he is Karaoke. If you listen to Danny’s performances and then listen to his studio versions, they are completely different (and not just because they have more verses). Danny has a rare talent that is completely raw and original. He sings from his gut and his heart and so he sounds different everytime he sings a song. Even his 2 live performances of “You are so Beautiful” are different – different lyrics, phrasing and nuances. Few people can do that. Kris and Adam are “typical’ singers who have very well trained voices and they sing one particular arrangement of a song and whether they sing it on stage or on recording it is exactly the same (with the only difference being added verses). Not to say that is bad, because most people are lazy listeners and so when we like a song we want it to be sang the same way each time the singer sings it. Danny surprises you everytime he sings because he changes the song so much each time – again, that comes from having pure raw vocal talent. Anyone with a decent voice can be trained to sing, learn a song, and spew it out the same way every time. that is why so many singers these days use lip synching – they are lazy and don’t care to be creative with a song each time they sing it and they know their lazy audiences are perfectly happy hearing the song exactly the way it sounds on record (as a matter of fact some people get mad if the song doesn’t sound the same live as it does on record). Someone like Danny would have a very difficult lip-syncing in concert because his vocal nuances are difficult to sync. He throws in a lot of sexy, throaty sounds at different points in a song and it is really difficult to replicate in lip synching. Sorry, I went on so long, but I am really tired of hearing how Adam and Kris are so creative with songs- they are no more creative than Danny is.

Just another added note. I believe the turning point for Kris in the competition was when he sang “Heartless”. His vocals were beautiful, however the judges went way overboard in their praise because they kept saying it was better than Kanyes’s version. What Kris did was take the Fray’s version (which is unbelievably beautiful) and copied it. But, because he didn’t do the Kanye version the judges and apparently the audience thought it was completely original. On the same night he sang Apologize and again he also sang that song exactly the same way the original was done, except he sat played piano. Both songs he sang that night were lighter versions of someone elses song (albeit, vocally he sang them well). And, I personally think that same night was Adams’s worst night. I don’t even remember what his second song was except it had his typical over the top high pitched vocals, but his version of “One” was not good that song is a classic and he did Bono (and for that matter, Mary J Blige no favors). Week after week, Adam was spot-on with his performances (amazing, unmatchable vocals) but he did not have a good night on the final 3 night and I couldn’t believe the judges were so over the top about him. That was when I knew that Adam was in trouble because viewers got angry at the judges for not recognizing that it was not his best night. Everybody in my office the next day said “anybody but Adam” because they were so upset by the judges. They all thought Adam did not do as well as the judges thought he did. So, just as I said the turning point in favor of Kris was that night, it was also the turning point out of favor for Adam. And, all because the judges were so off base in their critiques.
I encourage everyone to go to http://www.last.fm and listen to the many, many versions of “You are So Beautiful” and compare them to Danny’s version. You will find that it almost sounds like Danny sang a completely different song because of the
arrangement he threw down in the middle of the song.
wow you guys really had alot of comments it was fun reading them all..I am still sad that he took third. because he still had the best voice next to Adam in that competition. Danny wanted a duet with Allison too and did not get it…There were alot of things that he did not get on that show..that maybe could have really changed the outcome. again dance little sister????
i was really touhed when he sang “you are so beautiful” for the last time that he changed the lyrics “your love makes a grown man cry”!
in terms of the creativity, Adam admitted that all his version of songs came from the internet，and he never sang a song that he didn’t know.Danny learned almost everything before the show and his unique voice, his soul and his emotion had made it his own!
I’m sorry I actually just like the song but Danny’s version was very flat, breathy,shouty and had some bad phrasing I did not like the aragment the second half was better the live version wasn’t that bad but I cringe when I hear the recorded version that one was the one that sounded like a wedding singer the thing about Danny that I don’t love is with him sure he can belt but he can’t deliver a song like mad world or ain’t no sunshine that don’t require belting I’m sorry I love Danny but I think he needs a little improvement but thats just my opinion
(Cheryl Kris version of heartless isn’t the same as the frays and Randy pointed out that it was similar and you can’t be mad that he sang the same version of apologies he didn’t say he made that arangment and they don’t have to change it every time Danny barely ever changes the arangments on his songs)
Danny definately did not get the credit for how truly talented he is. He should have been in the final two and I personally think he should have won. But, he should be very proud of himself because he came from not knowing very many songs outside of the gospel genre, never having had any professional vocal training and never having made a recording or been professionally paid outside of church and he made it to the top 3 on Idol. Now that’s talent! Go Danny!
Kris, Adam and Danny are totally different~
i am not that familiar with all the songs and their original versions, so everything Danny sang is just new to me. The songs that i have heard before Danny sing were ‘endless love’”what hurts the most’and ‘hello’ and i love them all^_^
Danny is that kind of singer that when he opened his mouth, you will know exactly that it’s him and nobody else~

jo on Tue I can’t believe you think Danny has not changed the arrangements of his songs. Surely you know his version of You Are So Beautiful” has never, never been done. His version of “Stand By Me” has never been done (and his live version is completely different than his studio verson – amazing that he arranged two versions). His “September” version has lyrics and an arrangement completely different from the Earth Wind and Fire version – he added the entire midsection with the “I can see clearly now” portion of the song(he even talks during the studio version). “Dance Little Sister” has a jazz arrangement thrown in and his studio version has even more jazz thrown in. Listen to Michael Jackson sing PYT and then listen to Danny – totally different song and vibe.
Why do you think it is somehow bad when Danny belts out a song? He does it because it is very difficult for most people to do that – it takes rare talent. Just like Adam sings high pitched notes that are very difficult to sing. Adam and Danny do the EXACT same thing expect Danny is belting out lower pitched notes and Adam is belting out high pitched notes. You just happen to like Adam’s belting out high pitched notes and I happen to like Danny belting out lower pitched notes, with some higher ones thrown in for good measure. Kris, on the other hand, would have a very difficult time holding or belting out any notes, so his song arrangements are always at the same tempo and pitch. Even when he did disco, he could not do an uptempo song, so he changed it to fit his own tempo. I would love to have seen Kris try something out of his comfort zone, but I’m not sure he would serve himself well by trying it. He knows his voice – he has that cool, easy low tempo sound that works beautifully for him. Each one of them has there own strengths and all three of them use their strengths well. But, it doesn’t mean that one of them is better than the other – it just means they will appeal to different audiences.
Sorry I’ve been running on with my comments. I’ll try to keep it short. I guess something got to me, so I felt the need to defend our Danny! He’s the best!!!!!!

When Danny got through singing “You Are So Beautiful” Randy Jackson, who has been in the music bus. for 25years, said you(danny) was changing the version to make it his own. Then he said “you can really, really sing!! mad vocals… Simon told him I wouldn’t have changed the arrangement, it would have worked just with you and the piano…… Point being, Danny did change the arrangements.. to make the songs his own. He is a very talented guy.. I wish I could sing half as good as he does!!!!

I agree with others who have written that this website is the one place on the Internet where we DON’T have to defend Danny Gokey. I’ve never thought he was flat–in fact Kara even once commented on how he was ALWAYS on pitch–and if that’s “shouty,” give me shouty any time.
This site is an oasis for people who have gotten sick to death of hearing negativity about Danny. We DON’T want to deal with it here.
All of you are right about defending Danny. None of needs to do that because we are all about Danny’s amazing voice and sexiness. I for one will no longer respond to anything negative being said about Danny. He is super talented and I am so happy that he was on the show this season. It was so funny when Danny joked during his Idolatry interview that he would like to come back for season 9. I would like him to come back for season 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 etc……
I don’t know if I mentioned before on this site that my husband is from Beloit, Wisconsin and he still has family and friends there. One of the churches Danny was the music director for is in Beloit. Although my husband’s family does not go to that church, a number of his friends do. We have talked to a few of them and all of them said that Danny is a really great guy. They said he was an awesome music director and that he was very very funny.

And Cheryl, I have to agree 101% with all that you said about Danny….his version of YASB and everything else! For someone who had never studied music, never took voice lessons, and who is *completely* unfamiliar with ANY music outside of gospel and songs of worship and praise, he is absolutely incredible. He has a natural and God-given talent that he was born with. I studied vocal and piano and know what I’m talking about. It’s something that just cannot be learned, it has to come from within. Not only can Danny learn these songs he has never heard before, and “know” them in their original form by the original artist, in only a few days’ time to practice, but he’s able to put his own twist on these songs and make them his own. His phrasing is brilliant!
Cindy, I remember Kara making the statment about Danny always being on pitch. Thanks for reminding us!! I never thought I would hear negativity towards Danny on this site. And everybody having to defend him… This is the reason that I love this site so much.. You could come here and be around people who are truely devoted fans. And not hear hateful remarks that come from narrow-minded people……

I remember seeing an AI magazine on the newsstands in the past for each season. It was a one-time publication but can’t remember seeing one for last year.

I’m happy to hear Danny’s a nice guy too – cuz I’ve met some of my favorite idols in years past, and unfortunately some of them seem like jerks… (Blake Lewis being one of them.. not bashing him, just stating a fact of when I met him). Archie was a TOTAL sweetheart last year and even gave me a hug. So I’m always a little worried about meeting my fave cuz of past experiences. but I think Danny seems really genuine and real so I’m not super worried. I just hope he has time to see a lot of people!!!
And for me, even if Danny isn’t perfect, or is breathy, or whatever… he himself knows he’s just starting,, and I remember in the Idolatry interview he said he found out that he became a really lazy singer singing in church. I go to a church just like his, so I can completely understand what he means by that… but this gives him a chance to really work on himself and his singing.. and the good thing is that he knows that too… I definitely expect great things to come from him! jennjenn: Danny said he feels he is in the infancy of his music. Can you imagine if he sounds like this now, how good he will be when he gets even better? I don’t know much more perfection from Danny I will be able to stand!
I stayed so late at work chatting with all of you about Danny that I didn’t get a chance to get the cologne, but, believe me, it’s at the top of my things to do list.
Got another Danny story from when he stopped at the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee on Danny Gokey Day (kind of a long story but bear with me). All of us fans were there for about 1-2 hours waiting for him to show up and we were chatting with each other. There was one guy who was telling us that when the season started he saw Danny’s audition performance and he thought Danny looked familiar. When he watched it again, it finally came to him that Danny and his wife used to go into the restaurant where this guy worked, Ed Debevics. In case you are not familiar with Ed Debevics, it is a place where the wait staff acts really crazy and funny and always give the customers a hard time. The whole goal is to have all the customers laughing at all times. So, anyway, he thinks he recognizes Danny from about 8-9 years ago so he goes into a storage drawer to find some pictures and sure enough he finds this picture of himself with a much younger Danny. The reason he remembers Danny is because he said as funny as the wait staff was, Danny was even funnier and as hard of a time that the wait staff gave their customers, Danny gave it right back and would have them all laughing. He said everyone who worked their loved when he came in because he was so much fun to joke around with. So, as we are waiting for Danny, this guy says he is hoping to talk to Danny to see if he remembers him. We told him that he shouldn’t count on it because it was 8 years ago and the guy says yeah but he hopes maybe if he shows him the picture Danny will sign it for him. So, Danny gets there and the guy is right near the limo door. Danny gets out and the guy yells “Danny, do you remember me?” Danny kind of did a double take, pointed his finger at him and said “Ed Debevic’s, right?” and he threw his arms around the guy and gives him a man hug, asks him how he’s been doing, signs the guys picture from Ed Debevics and let’s the guy take a picture of the two of them together. We were all so impressed because Danny remembered the guy from so many years ago and he was really friendly to him. I think this (long) story shows that Danny is a genuinely nice guy. And, I hope he always stays the same because it is part of the reason why his fans love him so much. (that and how smokin’ hot he is!)

OH!!! And everyone – I just remembered something I read from an interview online with the vocal coaches and others about Danny recording “You are so beautiful” and how some people were saying they didnt think it was all that great. I read in the interview that Danny had recorded it, and then the music producer guy stopped him and said something like “Danny, your voice sounds great, but it just doesn’t sound like you’re singing it to a girl”… so Danny took a second, looked down, then said “okay, I’m ready”. And then he sang it. And I think that’s why to a lot of people it sounds a bit rough or screamy or whatever, cuz I mean, I can definitely hear the emotion in his voice – especially with my headphones on, which doesn’t hide anything… and I think that must’ve been a tough song for him to sing.. but I think it’s just beautiful… And yes, if this is infancy to him… I can’t even imagine what’s even going to come next!!!! Just greatness, I’m sure!
OH! And they have a resturant like Ed Debevic’s here in LA! I should find out the name of it and let him know! ha ha I haven’t been, but my brother has and says it’s great.. They basically make fun of you the entire time! ha ha I can just imagine that they love Danny cuz he seems very quick-witted and can take it from them and give it back! ha ha

The best way to listen to Danny’s music is either with headphones/earplugs *OR* on a big stereo entertainment system. I love everything he does but the one song he sings that just brings me to my knees is CROCS. He is always right on pitch with brilliant phrasing, gorgeous emotion. He is not just a singer, he is a song stylist.

jennjenn; please, please please try to get some video with Danny and post it here. By the time July rolls around all of us will really need a Danny fix. JENN JENN, Oh, I hope you will share your video with all of us.. If your ideas on getting noticed works for you, then maybe you’ll share them with the rest of us… I imagine Danny singing “You are so Beautiful” was painful for him to sing.. He sings with so much emotion. That’s why he connects so with the audience.. I remember when Danny told Ryan he was singing “UASB” as Danny got ready to sing, Ryan said the girls in the audience put their hands on their faces and said “OH”. Do you remember him saying that?? Anyway, it was a beautiful performance and I loved it!!

Joanna – I agree.. you can hear the pain in his voice.. he really has a reason for singing… and doesn’t care if it’s not exactly perfect cuz he’s there to give a message, and that’s what I love about him… the message behind it all..
