Danny Gokey has been an American favorite throughout his experience on American Idol. It’s country week and his song choice was ‘Jesus Take the Wheel’ by Carrie Underwood. He is an American Idol hopeful, and chose a song by an American Idol.
I haven’t been on the Gokey bandwagon; he has yet to really impress me with any of his performances. His performance of the Carrie Underwood hit was an OK performance. Sorry, that’s just my opinion. I am a huge fan of Carrie Underwood and I really don’t think he was able to pull the song off on his performance last night. He looked like a big marshmallow on stage trying too hard in the beginning to get the feel for the song. Half way through his performance I stopped thinking about marshmallows and enjoyed the song, but it shouldn’t have taken that long for me to get into a song that I am a fan of.
The judges dare I say would agree with me. Well all of them except for softie Paula Abdul. She thought the performance was brilliant and that Carrie Underwood herself would approve and go by the record. Kara agreed with my thought regarding the beginning of Gokey’s performance, there was nothing spectacular about it. Simon must have been thinking about marshmallows also, because his complaint was Gokeys outfit choice. Randy told him that he is a great singer, but he had a little trouble with the verses and was a little pitchy.
I totally agree with the judges, there was something missing. I don’t think he will be voted off because he has been a favorite by many fans of American Idol, but I do think he needs to step it up a notch. Maybe he was just having an off night, maybe not, but he does need to up his game.
