LehighValleyMusic: Allentown Fair goes gaga for Lady Antebellum

The 80-minute, 15-song set of tireless energy and robust vocals from Lady A was played in front of an estimated 7,600 fans and followed a solid opening act by American Idol alum and country newcomer Danny Gokey. His spirited hour-long performance included “My Best Days are Ahead of Me,” the lead single from his RCA Nashville/19 Recordings debut, and current Country Top 40 hit “I Will Not Say Goodbye.” The latter was dedicated to fallen military personnel and was one of the few ballads Gokey threw into the mix.
With impressive vocals from the outset, the original material in his 13-song repertoire worked well. He opened with the rocker “Like That’s a Bad Thing,” and moved right into another up-tempo number, “(Gotta Get a Little) Life on Ya.” But the covers he chose to include were a mixed bag. The Rascal Flatts’ ballad “What Hurts the Most” was well-received (and sung by the crowd with enthusiasm). But Gokey’s rendition of the decades-old Travis Tritt hit “T-R-O-U-B-L-E” came across like a karaoke version that briefly lost the audience. He recovered with “Life is a Highway,” prompting another sing-along, then closed with the Bon Jovi staple “Livin’ on a Prayer.”

Recap: Milgokey Fan’s Appalachian Fair & Grand Ole Opry Adventures

Warning: This is a two show recap so it is really, really long. If you decide to proceed ahead you may want to grab a snack and a beverage…and maybe a pillow 
Monday, August 23 – the day started out clear and warm in sunny Nashvegas. A perfect Gokey day. Asics and I had been in town, or on the town, depending who you ask, a day and a half soaking up the country music history and atmosphere that is Nashvegas and were about to leave on our 4 plus hour trip to Gray. We hopped in the car with plenty of CD’s and road trip snacks and off we went, driving through the hills and valleys of the long, beautiful state of Tennessee. Asics and I rocked out to Danny along the way, with a few other country artists thrown in to help quench Asics thirst for all things country music! She is such a country music sponge. Everything was going great and we didn’t even get lost so we made it to Gray in time to pick up Steph at the airport. Yes, we did actually see Steph leaving the airport. Granted we didn’t see her get off the plane but I’m pretty sure ya’ll would have heard about a spaceship landing in Tennessee. Unless she….oh, never mind. [Comment from Steph: despite my better judgment, I left this part in when posting for milgokey, but see below for my revenge

Concert: Danny Gokey at Prospectors (October 16 – Mt. Laurel, NJ)

DannyGokey.com has a new concert listed. Danny will perform at Prospectors Steakhouse & Saloon in Mt. Laurel, NJ on October 16, 2010, 9:30 PM (according to Danny’s MySpace. Prospectors calendar lists 6pm – 1am). Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Click HERE for more info.
Nashville Celebrates Wynonna

Dignitaries, community and music industry leaders came together Tuesday night to celebrate Wynonna Judd with the Cecil Scaife Visionary Award for her humanitarian contributions to the local, national and international community.
A power packed room at the Tennessee Governor’s Residence gave tribute to the big-hearted star. Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen and First Lady Andrea Conte, Nashville Mayor Karl Dean and wife Ann Davis, music icon Mike Curb along with wife Linda, joined 2009 American Idol finalist and Sony/RCA artist Danny Gokey, music industry and civic leaders Tony Brown, Connie Bradley, Hal Cato, and Harry Chapman in paying tribute to Wynonna for the countless charitable endeavors championed through her personal mentorship and support.
The event proceeds will fund a scholarship awarded in Wynonna’s name to a Belmont student studying for a career in the music industry.
“There was electricity in the air as Danny Gokey sang to Wy, one of his idols, and a lump in the throats of the audience throughout the evening as we had the honor of celebrating one of Nashville and the world’s most beloved stars, this time not for her one of a kind talent, but for her one of a kind heart,” said event Chairperson Pamela Davis Needham.
